Canadian Turf

The horse racing weekend starts.  Tomorrow will be the start of the fourth quarter and a number of tracks will be opening their fall season in the coming weeks.  Today we go to Woodbine for a nice allowance Turf race.

Woodbine Race 8 {1 mile~Turf~3 year old Up~Ontario~Allowance}
A swell group of ten is expected to start in this Turf race.  Cartown's Katie (Sutherland / Tharrenos) seems to have the edge with the second highest last out speed number at a longer route, a five race progression, and one quality workout.  Lookinoutforangels (Pizzaro / Drake) seems primed for a good race with a decent last out speed number, a three race progression, and two bullet workouts.  Desire and Fire (D. Garcia / Crook) looks fine with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two robust, peaking workouts.  Spend Now and Save (Moore / Gerl) will be closing for a piece of the purse with the highest speed number at the distance and a solid workout.  Let's play Woodbine.

Dirt Sunday

We are closing out our horse racing weekend on dirt looking at races at Hastings (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) and at Monmouth Park.

Monmouth Park Race 8 {1 1/16 mile~3 year old Up~Allowance}
A very nice field of eight go to the gate in this allowance feature.  Hung Jury (Fragoso / Sacco) seems to have the edge with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and one strong workout.  He holds good tactical speed where he can track the leaders and join in the fray in the stretch.  Raven Hawk (P. Lopez / Asmussen) looks ready to challenge coming off a Turf route with a decent speed number and three tenacious, peaking workouts.  African Diamond (Trujillo / Brown) may well be the favorite with the highest speed number at the distance, the third best last out speed number at a longer route, and three solid workouts.  Muhaaseb (Castro / McLaughlin) will be moving up in distance and should be ready to fire with three quality workouts.  Quick Ride (Bravo / Pompay) will be in the hunt with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and one good workout.  Let's play Monmouth Park.

This will be a handicappers dream race with all the possibilities.  A field of eleven will make the start and this race promises to be an exciting one with any number of horses ready to cantor into the winners circle.  Distorted Dave (P. Alvarado / Sadler) holds a finite edge with an o.k. last out speed number at a much longer route and three significant, peaking workouts.  Ain (Cardenaz / Condilenios) is the only other horse in the field to grapple with this distance having the highest speed number and a couple of decent last out speed numbers.  All others in the field are yet unproven at this distance.  Cherokee Notion (R. Baze / Taylor) looks primed with the third highest last out speed number, a five race progression, and two robust workouts.  Prince Intent (Gutierrez / Taylor) looks ready with the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and two great workouts.  Once again, mindful of our budget, let's play Hastings.

Saturday Races on the East Coast

Stakes Saturday we look at a sprint at Belmont Park and a route at Parx (formerly Philadelphia Park).  The Breeder's Cup is almost a month away and all of the divisions look as competitive as ever.

It's Friday and we are on to Belmont Park for nice Turf race.

For the start of our horse racing weekend we will look at an exciting Turf race at Arlington Park.

Sunday Turf Mile Stakes Races

We close out our horse racing weekend with two top notch mile stakes races.  The Nobel Damsel at Belmont Park and the Woodbine Mile at Woodbine.

Belmont Park Race 9 {Nobel Damsel~G3~1 mile~Turf~3 year old Up~fillies/mares~Stakes}
A talented group of eight gals go to the gate in this graded stakes race.  Quiet Meadow (Lezcano / C. Brown) should be able to pull off the victory as the favorite with the third highest (tie) last out speed number, a three race progression, and four robust, peaking workouts.  Scolara (J. Velazquez / Mott) will challenge with the second highest (tie) last out speed number, a four race progression, and two solid workouts.  Sweeter Still [IRE] (C. Velasquez / Trombetta) could be the surprise with the highest speed number at the distance, a decent last out speed number, a two race progression, and four fearsome workouts.  C.S. A great cast of thirteen runners assembles for what will be an extremely competitive race.  The sole Euro-invader, Famous Name [GB] (Smullen / Weld) looks favorable with a 100% in the money record over seven races at this mile distance.  He will be coming off a longer route race overseas for this one.  A nine time winner, he cannot be left out.  Famous Name [GB] will be challenged mightly in this top notch field.  Court Vision (Albarado / R. Dutrow) looks well prepped for this race with a decent last out speed number at a longer route and three high quality workouts.  He also shows the highest (three-way tie) speed number at the distance.  Victor's Cry (Nakatani / Harty) is another with the highest speed number at the distance.  He will be closing fast with the third highest last out speed number at a much longer route and four fierce, peaking workouts.  Grand Adventure (Husbands / Frostad) is the third with the highest speed number at the distance.  He also shows a decent last out speed number at a longer route, a fabulous set of three workouts, and the highest speed number at Woodbine.  Smokey Fire (Jones / Attard) will be the surprise moving from a seven furlong sprint to the mile.  He shows the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two distance strengthening workouts.  He could be in there for a piece of the purse.  The Usual Q.T. (V. Espinoza / Cassidy) is a perfect five for five at the distance which will undoubtedly make him the favorite.  He has posted a decent last out speed number at a longer route and two serious workouts.  The Woodbine Mile will be a very competitive and exciting race.  Let's play Woodbine very carefully.

Saturday, Stakes Day.  Today we look at the Garden City Stakes at Belmont Park.  We are closing in on the Breeder's Cup at Churchill Downs the first weekend in November.

Today we look at an allowance race at Presque Isle Downs and a stakes race at Fairplex Park.

Turf ?? Battle at Belmont

Today we look at what could be a nice Turf battle at Belmont Park.  Though with 40 percent chance of showers it is likely to go off on the main track.

With rain in the forecast this one may go to the dirt track.  The better horses of the group are scheduled to the main track.  We will look at the race from a Turf perspective and a main track perspective.

Twilight Races on the Dirt

We begin our horse racing weekend at twilight in the dirt at Hoosier Park and at Fairplex Park.

Hoosier Park Race 4 {1 mile~3 year old Up~Allowance}
A strikingly good group of nine older horses will go to the gate for this race.  Strike Impact (Mena / P. Dupuy) should make a strong impact with the third highest last out speed number over a longer route and three superbly built, peaking workouts.  Golden Country (Mojica / Bergin)  looks ready with a decent last out speed number and a solid bullet workout.  Z Humor (Martin / Asmussen) should be in the mix with the highest last out speed number, a five race progression, and four tenacious, peaking workouts.  Native Ruler (Torres / Richard) should grab a piece with the second highest last out speed number and two good workouts.  Let's play Hoosier Park.

A very nice herd of eight fillies will go to the gate in this ungraded stakes race.  Seriously (M. Garcia / Baffert) looks much the best with the highest speed number at this distance, 100% in the money at the distance and three robust, peaking workouts.  Folk Dancer (Atkinson / Cerin) looks solid with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and one fierce bullet workout.  Feeling Fancy (Santiago / Lucarelli) appears ready with two nice wins over the distance, a couple of decent last out speed numbers, and one bullet workout.  True Religion (Nakatani / Cassidy) should be in the chase for a piece of the purse coming off a route and three hearty workouts.  Subsidized (Pedroza / Baffert) will be the favorite and can be expected to challenge if he takes to the dirt.  He has the highest last out speed number and four decent workouts.  Let's play Fairplex Park.

Another Premiere Sunday

Another close to the horse racing weekend with a look at races at two of the premiere tracks, Saratoga and Del Mar, in the country.  They both will close their seasons' this week.  The unofficial close of Summer happens tomorrow on Labor Day.  Fall racing leading up to the Breeders Cup is just around the corner.

Saratoga Race 10 {Spinaway~G1~7 furlongs~2 year old~fillies~Stakes}
An absolutely wonderful race with eight entrants conditioned by some of the best trainers in the country.  Todd Pletcher has four fillies going to the gate.  None of the fillies in this race have gone the distance of 7 furlongs.  The edge in the race goes to Alienation (Hill / Baffert) with the highest (three-way tie) last out speed number and two exceptional workouts.  One of the Pletcher entrants stands out a little more than the others, R Heat Lightning (Gomez / Pletcher).  She also shares the highest last out speed number and has put in two robust workouts.  Le Mi Geaux (Lenclud / R. Dutrow) appears ready for a big outing with a couple of decent last out speed numbers and four fabulous, peaking workouts.  There is no superfecta offered in this race.  Let's play Saratoga.

A small field of six rising stars are entered seeking this graded stakes victory.  Twirling Candy (Rosario / Sadler) is the speed horse to catch with the highest last out speed number and four aggressive, peaking workouts.  Kid Edward [IRE] will challenge with the second highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and three strong, peaking workouts.  Fantastic Pick [GB] looks fine with the third highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and a great workout.  Summer Movie (Espinoza / A. Sherman) will be in the mix with the fourth highest last out speed number and one athletic workout.  Royal F.J. (Bejarano / Canani) has an exceptional in the money record (10 for 10) over the surface and is on a three race progression. He looks ready to run a big race.  Let's play Del Mar.

Saratoga Stakes Are Best

Saturday, a great day for Saratoga stakes races.  Today we look at a couple of great ones at the famed "Spa".

Saratoga Race 9 {Forego~G1~7 furlongs~3 year old Up~Stakes}
A field of eleven is expected for this very, very competitive race.  Vineyard Haven (A. Garcia / Suroor) looks well prepped for a victory with the third highest last out speed number, the second highest (three-way tie) speed number at Saratoga, and three superb workouts.  Warrior's Reward (Leparoux / Wilkes) appears ready to jump back in for a great effort with the highest speed number at the distance, a couple of decent last out speed numbers, and five superlative, peaking workouts.  Big Drama (Coa / Fawkes) will challenge with the highest last out speed number and a hearty workout.  Omniscient (Borel / Asmussen) will be the surprise with the fourth highest last out speed number, a five race progression, and four furious, peaking workouts.  Let's play Saratoga.

Velazquez / Pletcher) is the horse to beat.  Good Luck.  Quality Road has the highest speed number at the distance, the highest last out speed number, and two fantastic workouts.  Convocation (Castellano / Jerkens) will be the best of the rest with the second highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three well-built, peaking workouts.  Mythical Power (Gomez / Baffert) will be in the hunt for a piece of the purse with a strong three digit speed number on the dirt surface, a couple of decent last out speed numbers, and three robust workouts.  Also with a chance for piece of the purse will be Kentucky Derby 134 winner, Mine That Bird.  He will be making his third start this year with a couple of decent last out speed numbers, a two race progression, and three serious, peaking workouts.  Let's play another at beautiful Saratoga.

Back to the Premiere Tracks

Thank goodness it's Friday.  Today we are back at two of America's premiere tracks, Saratoga and Del Mar, for a couple of exciting horse races.

Saratoga Race 8 {With Anticipation~G3~1 1/16~Turf~2 year old~Stakes}
A great group of ten two year olds will make their start in this graded stakes race.  Sensational Slam (J. Velazquez / Pletcher) holds a slight edge with the third highest (tie) speed number and two robust workouts.  Silver Medallion (Gomez / Brown) will challenge with the highest last out speed number in his only race and two swift workouts.  Powhatan County (Castellano / Weaver) looks ready to run well also with the third highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and one good workout.  Air Support (Maragh / McGaughey) should be in the mix with the third highest (tie) speed number at the distance, a two race progression, and two hardy workouts.  Lou Brissie (Dominguez / Howard) can be expected to compete well with a couple of decent last out speed numbers and a ferocious peaking four workout tab.  Soldat (A. A fantastic group of eight will go to the gate in this race.  Lions Story (Valenzuela / Hollendorfer) holds an edge with the highest (tie) last out speed number coming off a longer route, a two race progression, and five superb workouts.  Distorted Economy (Bejarano / Drysdale) will challenge also with the highest last out speed number, an eight race progression, and three strong workouts.  Just Magic (Rosario / Armstrong) will press the pace at the front end holding on for a piece of the purse.  He shows a terrific 100% in the money record over four races on the synthetic surface and has put in two speedy drills.  Gallant Gent (Espinoza / Lewis) can be expected to be in the hunt with the second best last out speed number, a three race progression, and three fierce workouts.  Let's play Del Mar.

Premiere Track Thursday

For the start of our horse racing weekend we look at races at two of the premiere tracks in the country; Saratoga and Del Mar.

Saratoga Race 9 {Riskaverse~Div. II~1 mile~inner Turf~3 year old~fillies~Stakes}
This part two of the Riskaverse with the first division being run in race four.  A very nice field of ten will run.  Queen of the Creek (Leparoux / Proctor) holds an edge over this talented group with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three athletic, peaking workouts.  Khancord Kid (Maragh / Kimmel) will challenge with the third highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two stout, peaking workouts.  Sea Road (C. Velasquez / Hough) looks ready to have a good run at it with the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and two strong, peaking workouts.  Lisa's Booby Trap (Desormeaux / Snyder) will be the speed of the race with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two hearty workouts.  Marseria [ITY] (Valdivia / Toner) should be the surprise of the group with two first place finishes in her native Italy.  Her workout tab was a solid three of a peaking nature.  Let's play "The Spa".

A decent field of eight will go to the gate.  The coupled entry of Greely's Ghost (Bejarano / Gaines) and No Stadium (Valenzuela / Gaines) looks very tough with Greely's Ghost the stronger of the two entrants.  Greely's Ghost should be the one to notch a victory with the highest speed number at the distance and two robust workouts.  Oak Kye Why (Espinosa / Cassidy) looks ready to compete at this distance with the second highest last out speed number and four well-built, peaking workouts.  Camicory (M. Garcia / Mullins) looks ready to compete well with the fourth highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and three terrific, peaking workouts.  Dana Dynamo (Quinonez / Headley) looks very well prepped with a couple of decent last out speed numbers, a three race progression, and four ferocious, peaking workouts.  Let's play Del Mar.
