Opening Churchill's Fall Meet

A great Sunday for the opening of Churchill's fall meet.  The Breeders Cup is only a few days away and you can feel the excitement brewing on this crisp Halloween day.  Today we look at a Juvenile Stakes race at Churchill and a nice mile Turf stakes race at the Oak Tree meet at Hollywood Park.

Churchill Downs Race 10 {Pocahontas~G2~1 mile~2 year old~fillies~Stakes}
A great group of seven gals line up for this annual race.  There is parity in this race and any one of these gals is capable of being victorious.  Gran Lioness (Theriot / Calhoun) may be the surprise with the highest (tie) speed number at the distance albeit on Turf, a three race progression, and two strong workouts.  Another that could surprise is Switching Gears (Gomez / Margolis) with the highest (tie) speed number on the dirt surface, the third highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and two hardy workouts.  Days Like This (Albarado / A. Dutrow) could also surprise coming off a longer route with improving speed numbers and two distictive workouts.  Honey Chile (M. Baze / Catalano) will challenge with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two stellar workouts.  Also in the hunt for the win will be Dancinginherdreams (Leparoux / J. Ward) with her one race posting the second highest last out speed number on synthetic and two quality workouts.  Let's play wonderful Churchill Downs.

An equally matched group of eight will go to the gate.  Turning Top [IRE] (Blanc / Callaghan) holds a slight edge with the highest last out speed number coming off a longer route, a two race progression, and two solid workouts.  Westwood Pride (Bejarano / Mulihall) will challenge sharing the highest last out speed number, holding a five race progression, and three well-built, peaking workouts.  Blue Maiden [GB] (Rosario / Mandella) looks exceptionally strong with the third highest (tie) last out speed number, a three race progression, and three athletic, peaking workouts.  Wynning Ride (M. Garcia / Baffert) will surprise with the second highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and four tremendous, peaking workouts.  This will be her first race on grass, but she looks well prepped for it.  Let's play the Oak Tree at Hollywood Park.

Closing Stakes at Keeneland

Another wonderful Stakes Saturday at Keeneland as it closes its meet.  Today we will look at a polytrack race on this beautiful fall day.

Keeneland Race 9 {Fayette~G2~1 1/8~3 year old Up~Stakes}
A great group of ten are scheduled to run in this one.  Dubious Miss (Borel / McGee) coming off a six-month layoff looks primed and ready for victory.  With the highest speed number at this distance, a three race progression before the layoff, and three mighty workouts, Dubious Miss will fire well.  Successful Dan (Leparoux / Lopresti) will challenge with the second highest speed number last out, a three race progression, and two solid workouts.  Exhi (Castellano / Pletcher) will also challenge with the third highest (tie) last out speed number and two robust workouts.  Striding for a piece of the purse will be Stately Victor (Albarado / Maker) also with the third highest last out speed number and three hearty workouts.  Running in the hunt will be Battle of Hastings [GB] with a decent last out speed number at a longer route and three fierce workouts.  Battle of Hastings [GB] is known as a turf specialist, but cannot be discounted as he has the highest speed number at the distance.  Let's play beautiful Keeneland.

Today we look at a Turf allowance race at magnificent Keeneland as it closes out its fall meet.  Churchill is around the corner where the Breeder's Cup will be held next weekend.

Sweet Home Chicago

As we begin the horse racing weekend, the Breeder's Cup is only eight days away.  It looks to be exceptionally exciting.  Today we look at a Turf race at Hawthorne Race Course in the Chicago area.

A Six Furlong Sunday

Where did the horse racing weekend go?  It went by like a sprint.  Today we take a look at a couple of nice six furlong sprints. One at Monmouth Park and one at Keeneland.

Monmouth Park Race 10 {6 furlongs~3 year old Up~Optional Claimer}
A nice field of eight will go to the gate near the Jersey shore.  A very minute edge goes to Stormin Bud (Valdivia / Fawkes) with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two athletic workouts.  He will be challenged by the favorite, Soda Pop Kid (P. Lopez / Levine), with the highest (tie) speed number at the distance, a decent last out speed number, and one good workout.  Big Dealer (C. Lopez / Broome) will vie for the lead as well as the win with the fourth highest last out speed number, sharing the highest speed number at the distance, a four race progression, and three robust, peaking workouts.  Uwannapieceofthis (Bravo / Pletcher) should be in the mix coming off a route with an o.k. speed number and one strong workout.  Let's play Monmouth Park.

Coming off a long layoff he holds the second highest speed number at Keeneland and has put in a solid workout.  Hoping to challenge will be El Gran Sol (Martinez / Frazier) with the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number, a four race progression, and two superb workouts.  Secessionist (Castanon / Von Hemel) will vie for a piece of the purse also with the fourth highest last out speed number and one good workout.  Looking for a piece will be Knownforstone (McKee / Connelly) coming off an extended layoff, but with the finest workout tab of the group. He has put in three sensational bullet workouts which shows he will be ready.  Tide Table (Allen / Bennett) could surprise with a couple of decent last out speed numbers and a solid set of two peaking workouts.  Let's play Keeneland.

Another fine Saturday for a stakes race at wonderful Keeneland.

A super full field of fourteen fillies will go to the gate for this race.  All of these gals are capable of popping a great race.  Katy Now (Gomez / Pletcher) has a nano-edge with a nice win at this distance, a decent last out speed number, and three nice workouts.  Kitty in a Tizzy (Sutherland / Bond) looks like the chief challenger with the second highest last out speed number coming off a route, a four race progression, and two robust workouts.  Beautician (Leparoux / McPeek) will also challenge with the highest speed number at the distance at a mile route and two solid workouts.  Negligee (Mena / Terranova) will be in the hunt with an middling speed number off a long route and three fantastic, peaking workouts.  Chantilly Nayla (Albarado / Catalano) will be in the mix with the second highest speed number on the Keeneland track, a two race progression, and three hearty workouts.  Let's play the Raven Run at Keeneland.

The horse racing weekend begins at Keeneland.  Today, another fine Turf race on a beautiful fall day.

A great group of twelve Turf horses line up for this race.  The veterans may have the edge, but all have a fair chance of pulling off a victory.  Brass Hat (Borel / Bradley) may have a miniscule edge with the fourth highest (three-way tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and three robust, peaking workouts.  Musketier [GER] (J. Velazquez / Attfield) will challenge in the stretch with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and four strong, peaking workouts.  Free Fighter (Bridgmohan / Block) looks solid at this distance and has put in three exceptional workouts in preparation for this race.  Yate's Black Cat (Desormeaux / Romans) looks ready to make a good run with a couple of decent last out speed numbers and four superb, peaking workouts.  Presious Passion (Trujillo / Hartman) can be expected to be the motor on the front end of this race and will be in the hunt for the win.  He also has the fourth highest last out speed number and one stamina inducing workout.  Let's play fantastic Keeneland.

Keneland and Canadian Turf Today

On this Saturday Stakes day we look at two very competitive grade one Turf races.  The Queen Elizabeth II at Keeneland and the Canadian International at Woodbine.

Keeneland Race 9 {Queen Elizabeth II~G1~1 1/8 mile~Turf~3 year old~fillies~Stakes}
This will be an extremely competitive race.  Of the field of eight, only one filly has raced over the Keeneland Turf.  The California invaders are the ones to beat.  Harmonious (Rosario / Shirreffs) is well prepped with the third highest (tie) last our speed number, a five race progression, and four stout, peaking workouts.  Evening Jewel (Espinoza / Cassidy) will challenge also with the third highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and four well-built, peaking workouts.  Zagora [FR] (Leparoux / Rouget) will also challenge having a win at this distance in her native France and also coming off a longer Turf route.  Perfect Shirl (J. Velazquez / Attfield) will be in the mix with fifth highest last out speed number at this distance and four ferocious workouts.  La Cloche (Alvarado / Toner) will be the surprise and in the hunt.  She has a couple of decent last out speed numbers and four solid peaking workouts.  Let's play Keeneland.

What a great group of nine classic distance Turfers.  The Euro Invaders may have the upperhand in this one.  Redwood [GB] (Hills / Hills) has the highest last out speed number and is 75% in the money at this distance over four races.  Joshua Tree [IRE] (O'Donoghue / O'Brien)  will challenge with a couple of great races in Great Britain last out and nice improvement in each of his last five races.  Chinchon [IRE] (Gomez / Laffon) ran an exciting victorious race in North America two races back, but struggled a little in his last out race in France.  He can be expected to challenge the other Euros in this race.  Fifty Proof (Stein / Black) will most assuredly be in the mix with the second highest speed number last out and two explosive workouts.  He can be expected to be the speed in this race.  Simmard (Castellano / Attfield) will be the surprise with a decent last out speed number at shorter route distance, a two race progression, and four terrific, peaking workouts.  He also loves the Woodbine track as he is 86% in the money on it.  The veteran Turfer, Marsh Side (Prado / Drysdale) will be in the hunt with the highest speed number at the distance and three strengthening workouts.  He cannot be discounted in this event.  Let's play Woodbine.

This is a great Saturday filled with numerous Stakes races.  Most are considered prep races for the Breeder's Cup on the first weekend in November at Churchill Downs.  Today we look at one of them, the Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park.
