We open our horse racing weekend with a fine Saratoga race for 3 year old fillies.

Saratoga Race 9 {Statue of Liberty~1 mile~inner TURF~3 year old~fillies~Stakes}
A talented field of ten will line up for this grass feature.  Most of the field appears to be fowardly placed types.  It should be a very good Turf battle.

#1 Why Take a Chance (Castellano / McPeek) looks to have a slight edge with the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and three robust, peaking workouts.  She does have the tactical speed to get the job done.
$1 WIN / $1 SHOW.

#6 Manero (Lezcano / Serpe) will challenge with a decent couple of last out speed numbers, a two race progression, and three athletic workouts.  She should be with the forward group ready to make a move in the turn.
$1 PLACE / $1 SHOW.

#10 I Bet Toni Knows (Alvarado / Reed) is another that will challenge with the second highest last ouspeed number, a two race progression, and two hearty workouts.  This gal is one of the few that will track and close.
$1 SHOW.

Another Wagering Interest

#4 My Jopia (Dominguez / Schettino) can be expected to be in the mix with the third highest last out speed number off a Turf sprint, a two race progression, and two diligent workouts.  She will join the forwardly placed group fighting hard for position.

Superfecta Sunday at Saratoga

On this lovely Superfecta Sunday we take a peek at sensational Saratoga for a grade one sprint.

Saratoga Race 10 {Alfred G. Vanderbilt~G1~6 furlongs~3 year old Up~Stakes}
A spectacular field of eight great horses will hit the starting gate.  A very talented field will make this one a tricky race to handicap.  Aside from the millionaire, Shackleford, any one of these guys can step up with a top-notch effort. The field happens to be evenly divided between speedsters and those that like to stay close to the pace.  Should be a terrific race. Let's try to sew together our first Saratoga Superfecta box of the season.

#1 Shackleford (J. Velazquez / Romans) is the class of the field with the highest last out speed number at a mile route, a two race progression, and four sound peaking workouts.  This guy could lead them through or press the pace and kick it home.  Doesn't neccessarily have to win with over $2 million banked already.

#2 Emcee (A Garcia / McLaughlin) could give the big guy a run for his money coming off a layoff with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three superb workouts.  He could tuck in right behind the leader and explode in the stretch.

#4 Rothko (Leparoux / Asmussen) will challenge with a couple of very good last out speed numbers entering into his third race of the form cycle and putting in four strong peaking workouts. This guy could surprise with a sneaky forwardly placed run.  He is our bronze horseshoe runner.
$2 SHOW.

#6 Sloane Ranger (Lezcano / Giresa) should be in the mix coming off a route with the fourth highest last out speed number, holding a five race progression, and putting in one special workout.  He has enough tactical speed to stay in this one.

10 CENT Superfecta Box ($2.40)

#1 Shackleford  +  #2  Emcee  +  #4 Rothko  +  #6 Sloane Ranger.

Winning Whitney at Saratoga

An impressive Stakes Saturday at the Spa.  We take a peek at the Whitney that has a star studded cast of horses.

Saratoga Race 10 {Whitney Invitational~G1~1 1/8 mile~3 year old Up~Stakes}
An incredible field of nine great stakes winning horses line up for this annual summer race.
There will be speed.  And there will be a contingent of horses coming from off the pace.  This should be one of the best races of the summer.

#1 Rule (Bravo / Pletcher) might have a slight edge if he can moderate the pace right behind the leaders.  He holds the third highest last out speed number, a two race progression (from last year to this year), and two robust workouts.  Making his second start of the year he could press the pace and have first strike on the leaders.
$1 WIN / $2 SHOW.

#8 Hymn Book (J. Velazquez / McGaughey) will challenge with the second highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and one solid workout.  He will be part of the group of runners coming from off the pace.  Could impress.
$1 PLACE / $1 SHOW.

#7 Flat Out (Napravnik / Mott) could have the benefit of a swift pace with a couple of decent last out speed numbers and two aggressive workouts.  He holds the highest speed number over the track and loves Saratoga.  He will be closing fast.
$1 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#2 Hunters Bay (Wilson / Baker) could be the big surprise with a decent last out speed number at a longer route and three tremendous peaking workouts.  Coming off three strong wins in a row, this guy will be in the mix.

#6 Ron The Greek (Lezcano / Mott) will be in the hunt with the fourth highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and four sensational, peaking workouts.  He engage the group coming from off the pace.

Friday Along the Pacific

Thank goodness it is Friday.  We journey, in a virtual kind of way, to the where the Surf rushes in the background, gorgeous Del Mar.

Del Mar Race 7 {Real Good Deal~7 furlongs~3 year olds~CA~Stakes}
An excellent field of eight will take to the polytrack.  A nice group of speedsters should settle in the front along with another group of pressers following close behind.  One closer should follow all.  It will be a very good race.

#7 Unusual Heatwave (Bejarano / Barba) should be the favorite with the third highest last out speed number and four furiously fast workouts.  He should sit right off the leaders ready to strike.
$2 SHOW.

#8 Derby Gold (M. Garcia / Baffert) could be the surprise challenger making his first synthetic start.  He is coming off the second highest last out speed number, holds a two race progression, and has put in four fantastic workouts.  He has enough tactical speed to stay close and launch a speedy run in the stretch.
$2 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#1 Rousing Sermon (Smith / Hollendorfer) has done well in his career as a router.  He will be taking on a bunch of sprinters with solid records.  He holds the highest last out speed number at a route, a three race progression, and four fabulous peaking workouts.  He will close well to be in the mix.

#2 A Toast to You (Gomez / P. Miller) should press and track to remain in the hunt with the fourth highest last out speed number, a five race progression, and two fine workouts.  He could give them all a run for their money.

10 CENT Superfecta

#7 Unusual Heatwave / #8 Derby Gold / #1 Rousing Sermon / #2 A Toast to You.

Thursday Horse Racing at the Spa

Another glorious horse racing weekend begins.  Today we take a look at a very nice sprint at beautiful Saratoga.

Saratoga Race 9 {6 1/2 furlongs~3 year olds Up~fillies/mares~Starter Optional Claiming}
Eleven sweet sprinting fillies will line up for this one.  Notice that no mares were up to the challenge.  It is any horses race in this competition.  A little speed mixed with the forwardly placed and sprinkled with trackers make this race a challenging one.

#10 Smokin' Alice (C. Velasquez / Rodriguez) might have a slight edge with the third highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two solid workouts.  She could stay close to the pace and wheel it in the stretch.
$1 WIN / $1 SHOW.

#7 Bid a Moon (Napravnik / Schosberg) should challenge with the second highest speed number at the distance,  a couple of decent last out speed numbers, and four superb workouts.  She should press the attack and swing into the stretch run.
$1 PLACE / $1 SHOW.

#1 Sly Warrior (Castellano / Maker) could be the speed of the speed with the highest speed number at the distance which resulted in a victory as well as made the fourth highest speed number among this group.  She is holding a two race progression and has put in two modest workouts.  She has the potential wire this field.
$1 SHOW.

Another Wagering Interest

#4 Caviar N Champagne (Ortiz / Englehart) will challenge with the highest last out speed number, a five race progression, and one steady workout.  She can be expected to track the pace and move swiftly in the turn.  There is no doubt, she too could pull off the victory.

10 CENT Superfecta

#10 Smokin' Alice / #7 Bid A Moon / #1 Sly Warrior / #4 Caviar N Champagne.
