First, Congratulations to Jim Benes (Illinois, USA) on winning the handicapping crown in the 2013 Daily Racing Form / National Thoroughbred Racing Association National Handicapping Championship.  Nice pay day!!!

Today we look towards California for a simple six furlong Superfecta Sunday race.

Santa Anita Race 8 {6 furlongs~4 year old Up~fillies/mares~Allowance}
An equally matched field of eight will go to the gate.  This race comes up with a ton of speed.  The gal that can back off the pedal a little and wait for the pace to develop has the best chance of winning it.  We will attempt to fashion a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket utilizing four that have a chance for victory.

#2 Splendid Fortune (Talamo / Baffert) is coming off an extended layoff holding the highest last out speed number as well as the highest speed number at the distance.  She was working a two race progression before the layoff and has put in four sensational workouts in the last 30 days.  She is a speedster that resort to a tracking running style if need be.

Stakes Saturday, Holy Bull !!

We come to that part of the week where horse players everywhere immerse themselves in the past performances to find a break-out horse.  It is Stakes Saturday.  Today we take a look at a KD 139 prep race, The Holy Bull.

Gulfstream Park Race 10 {Holy Bull~G3~1 1/16 mile~3 year olds~Stakes}
An excellent crop of ten Kentucky Derby hopefuls will make the start in this annual stakes contest.  There is a large contingent of forwardly placed runners; speedsters coupled with pressers.  Many in here have great tactical speed which will allow them to sit and wait for the developing pace.  A great stakes race for a Saturday in January.

#1 Shanghai Bobby (Napravnik / Pletcher) will be the overwhelming favorite and this winner of the Breeders Cup Juvenile deserves the support.  He is undefeated in five career starts and has the speed to lead this field.  This son of Harlan's Holiday holds the fourth highest speed number at the distance and has put in four superb workouts.  This guy will be the one to beat.  Two stats to consider however are a) There is sufficient speed in the race to keep him honest and b) It is tough for a horse to keep a winning race after race competing at this level.  Still he has had a good rest since his last out.  There will be little value for a wager on him though.
NO Wager.

#2 Frac Daddy (Cohen / McPeek) could surprise the field with the fourth highest last out speed number and four robust workouts.  He holds the highest speed number at this distance.  This son of Scat Daddy should be forwardly placed ready to make his move going into the stretch.
$1 PLACE / $1 SHOW.

#3 Clearly Now (Saez / Lynch) should be in contention with the third highest last out speed number and four strong, peaking workouts.  This guy can show speed or press the pace as things develop.  A son of Horse Greeley, he holds the third highest speed at the distance.
$1 SHOW.

Another Wagering Interest

#5 Sr. Quisqueyano (Rosario / Oliveras) could be the bomber in this race with the second highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and two stout workouts.  This son of Exclusive Quality could find himself mid-pack tracking a hot pace and then exploding in the stretch.  He should be a fascinating one to watch.

10 CENT Superfecta

#1 Shanghai Bobby, #2 Frac Daddy / #1, #2 / #3 Clearly Now, #5 Sr. Quisqueyano / #3, #5.
