Superfecta Sunday with Youngsters

A fine Superfecta Sunday as we look at a terrific grade one for the youngsters.

Saratoga Race 10 {Spinaway~G1~7 furlongs~2 year old~fillies~Graded Stakes}
A fine group of nine fillies will take to the dirt in this annual grade one.  There is a pack of forwardly placed types which should ensure a hot pace. All of these gals have just started their racing career.  Anyone of them could come away with the victory.  Our task is to come up with four to make our 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket. It should be a very exciting race.

#2 Angela Renee (J. Velazquez / Pletcher) might have the edge with the second highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and two superb workouts. She should be forwardly placed with plenty of run.

#4 By The Moon (J. Ortiz / Nevin) should challenge with the third highest (tie) last out speed number in her only start and five superior peaking workouts. In that start she notched a win over the Saratoga course.  She too should be forwardly placed ready for battle. This gal is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.
$2 SHOW.

#5 Darling Sky (C. Velasquez / Reid) should contend with the fourth highest last out speed number in her only start and two solid workouts. She is another that should be forwardly placed looking for an opening.

#6 Winter Dawn (Bridgmohan / Catalano) should be in the mix sharing the third highest last out speed number and putting in two robust workouts. Still another that will be part of the forwardly placed pack. This gal has also scored a victory in her only start at Saratoga.

Saratoga R11.  Woodward--G1.  Our first pick, Itsmyluckyday, won (1st) for win money of $3.85, place money of $3.70, and show money of $4.50.  Our second pick, Moreno, finished 2nd for place money of $2.10 and show money of $3.00.  Our third pick, Norumbega, finished 9th (last).
There was NO 10 CENT Superfecta offered for this race.
Bankroll gets a nice boost to $34.84.

Stakes Saturday at Spectacular Saratoga

A great Stakes Saturday on this Labor Day weekend.  Today we take in a graded one at the Spa.

Saratoga Race 11 {Woodward~G1~1 1/8 mile~3 year old Up~Graded Stakes}
A great crew of ten will take to the Saratoga dirt in this annual affair. There is one great speedster and a few that should be forwardly placed.  Consequently, there should be sufficient pace. Four millionaires are in the field and should have every chance of strutting in the winners circle again.  It should be a great race.

#2 Itsmyluckyday (Lopez / Plesa) could turn the tables on the Whitney winner in his last out which he shows the second highest last out speed number. This lad is working a three race progression and has put in two good workouts.  A son of Lawyer Ron, he should be close to the pace ready to strike in the stretch.
$1 WIN  / $2 PLACE  /  $3 SHOW.

#4 Moreno (Alvarado / Guillot) could dictate terms of the race on the front end.  He holds the highest last out speed number for which he won the Whitney. This speedster also has a three race progression and one serious bullet workout. This son of Ghostzapper loves the Saratoga course.

#7 Norumbega (Castellano / McGaughey) could surprise with a couple of solid last out speed numbers and three fantastic workouts.  He is coming off a longer route and is 83% in the money at this distance from six starts.  This son of Tiznow should close swiftly into a strong pace.

#3 Micromanage (Maragh / Pletcher) will be in contention with the third highest last out speed number at a longer route, a two race progression, and three robust workouts. This son of Medaglia d'Oro should be able to track and close in a vigorous manner. He has already notched two wins over the Saratoga course in two starts.

Friday Mile at Del Mar

On this fantastic Friday we view a spectacular mile race at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club.

Del Mar Race 6 {El Cajon~1 mile~3 year old~Stakes}
A great group of eight will go to the gate in this feature race. There is enough speed to keep a snappy pace. This competitive group have closely matched speed figs. It should be a good race.

#8 Conquest Two Step (Talamo / Casse) will be stretching out to a route with the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and two solid workouts. he should be able to track and close mightily.

#10 Red Outlaw (Maldonado / Miller) will challenge with the second highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and three superb peaking workouts. He should be forwardly placed seeking his fifth victory in a row.

Saratoga Horse Racing Weekend

For the start of our horse racing weekend we take in a race for the youngsters, at the Spa.

Saratoga Race 5 {With Anticipation~G2~1 1/16 mile~TURF~2 year old~Graded Stakes}
A great crop of nine youngsters will go to the grass in this mid-card feature.  Many are making their second career start after a stellar first win. There are enough speedy types to keep the pace moving. Only three have gone this distance and have notched wins at it. This should be a fascinating race.

#1 Startup Nation (Rosario / C. Brown) could follow up his first start at this distance with another win. He holds the second highest last out speed number and has put in two superb peaking workouts. This lad sports the highest speed number at the distance. He should be tracking the pace ready to strike.

#8 International Star (Napravnik / Maker) appears primed and ready to take another step forward with the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number and three athletic workouts. He should be forwardly placed geared towards victory.

Superfecta Sunday in the Sunshine

We go out West to where the sunshine glistens off the Pacific Coast.

Del Mar Race 10 {Pacific Classic~G1~1 1/4 mile~3 year old Up~Graded Stakes}
A top-notch crew of eleven will take to the poly in this great race.  There is enough speed and forwardly placed types in the race to keep the pace on track. There are a half dozen standouts and the balance continue to improve.  Our task is to sew together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#5 Game On Dude (M. Garcia / Baffert) is the proverbial horse to beat.  He holds the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number and has put in four sensational peaking workouts. This dude also holds the highest speed fig at the distance. He should be sitting on or near the lead.

#11 Shared Belief (Smith / Hollendorfer) will challenge with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and four superb peaking workouts. This guy is undefeated in five starts. He should be forwardly placed as he stretches out for this one.

#8 Toast of New York (Espinoza / Osborne) will be making his second North American start. He is a synthetic specialist with a 100% in the money record from four starts over it.  This lad has also notched a win at this distance in the UAE Derby earlier this year. Travers 2014

A blessed Stakes Saturday and we look toward New York for the premiere race of the summer at the glorious "Spa".

Saratoga Race 12 {The Travers~G1~1 1/4 mile~3 year old~Graded Stakes}
A "Best in Class" field of ten steps out for this traditional mid-summer "Derby". There is a bit of speed in here which should make the pace honest. All of these lads have earned their stripes and deserve to be in this historic race. Most are on the improve where anything could happen. Conversely, it could be a Jim Dandy deja vu all over again.  It should be a spectacular race.

#7 Wicked Strong (Maragh / Jerkens) might have a tiny edge with the second highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three mighty peaking workouts. This son of Hard Spun should track the pace closely and go full throttle in the stretch. He is one of only four that have gone this distance.
$1 WIN  /  $2 PLACE  /  $3 SHOW.

#6 Tonalist (Rosario / Clement) will challenge with the third highest last out speed number and two robust workouts. As a son of Tapit he could be sitting right off the pace and get first jump on the leader. He will be stretching out for this one.  His in the money record of 83% from six starts should be secure.

#8 Kid Cruz (I. Ortiz / L. Rice) should be in pursuit with a couple of excellent last out speed numbers and two wholesome peaking workouts.  This son of Lemon Drop Kid has the talent to track and close magnificently. He is one of five in this contest that have already hit the board at Saratoga.

Garcia / Baffert) should be the speed leader and could very well wire this field if left alone.  He shows the highest last out speed number and has put in three aggressively sound peaking workouts.  This millionaire son of Offlee Wild holds an enviable in the money record of 85% from seven starts.

#10 Mr. Speaker (Lezcano / McGaughey) could hammer the gavel down for a piece of the purse.  He holds the fourth highest last out speed number covering this distance over the Turf. Also, this son of Pulpit, is working a two race progression, and has put in four superb peaking workouts. He has extreme versatility in his running style which should benefit greatly in this race.

We take another look at Saratoga for some racing happiness.

A top-flight field of seven will go to the gate in this annual race.  There is plenty of speed to keep the pace flowing.  These competitive gals are all fairly close in terms of speed figures.  It should be a terrific race.

#7 Princess of Sylmar (Castellano / Pletcher) is coming off a brief freshening ready to tackle this talented field. She holds the fourth highest last out speed number at a longer route, the top speed fig for the distance, and has put in three robust workouts. This gal should track the field closely ready to jump into the stretch.

#1 Antipathy (I. Ortiz / McLaughlin) should challenge with the second highest last out speed number and one sound workout.  She holds the second best speed number at the distance which earned a win at same. This lass should be motoring on the front end seeking to wire the field.

#2 Risky Rachel (Castellano / Coronel) looks to sit right off the pace with the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and one bullet workout. She also holds the highest speed number at the distance in which she notched a win.

#4 Vicki's Dancer (J. Velazquez / Rodriguez) should challenge with a couple of good last out speed numbers and three superb peaking workouts. If a strong pace develops, watch her track and close brilliantly She should track the pace closely and fly into the stretch.

What an exciting day of racing at Arlington International yesterday.  On this Sunday we take in the beauty and splendor of the "Spa" for a wonderful Turf race.

Saratoga Race 10 {Sword Dancer~G1~1 1/2 mile~inner TURF~3 year old Up~Graded Stakes}
A hearty field of seven will take to the green in this annual contest.  There is sufficient speed to keep the pace humming.  Every last one of these guys are coming off a brief freshening which should produce a high caliber race.  All have gone this distance and their speed numbers insure a very competitive race.  Our task is to knit a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#4 Main Sequence (Maragh / Motion) could triumph with the highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and two strong workouts.  He holds an enviable in the money record of 73% from fifteen starts.  This lad is our Bronze Horseshoe runner.
$2 SHOW.

#7 Twilight Eclipse (Lezcano / Albertrani) should challenge sharing the highest last out speed number, holding a three race progression, and putting in three robust workouts. He also holds the highest speed number at the distance.  This guy has the tactical speed to fit into whatever pace develops.

#2 Perfect Timber (Castellano / Attfield) may be sitting on a great performance with a couple of good to decent last out speed numbers, a three race progression, and four super fine workouts.  He has managed this distance well and will be closing swiftly.

#6 War Dancer (A. Garcia / McPeek) has superb running capability and should contend.  He has a couple of very good last out speed numbers, holds the third highest speed number at the distance, and has put in three stout workouts for the cause. Expect him to sit right off the pace ready to strike in the stretch.

Our superfecta play was scuttled due to the scratch. Superfecta went 6-9-5-1.

Arlington International R10.  ARLINGTON MILLION--G1.  Our first pick, Magician [IRE], finished 2nd for show money of $4.50.  Our second pick, Real Solution, finished 7th (last). Our third pick, Smoking Sun, finished 6th.

Bankroll was supplemented by two Hamiltons for the days racing.  It gets a dramatic shave to $27.54.

MILLION Day 2014

A great day for Stakes Saturday as we look at two of the best at the beautiful Arlington International Race Course.  World renowned trainers and some of the best jockey's in the world have converged upon the Northwest Chicago track to make it one of the most exciting days of racing this year.

Arlington International Race 8 {Secretariat~G1~1 1/4 mile~TURF~3 year old~Stakes}
An evenly matched crew of eight will go to the gate. It was learned one of the contenders, Belisarius [IRE], has come down with a cough and will not make the run. The race comes up a little light on speed, but still should get a sound pace.  Most in this one will be firing fresh coming off brief layoffs. It should be an incredibly competitive race.

#6 Adelaide [IRE] (Moore / O'Brien) should have the edge with the second highest last out speed number and a two race progression. A son of the legendary Turfer, Galileo [IRE] has done very well across the pond and last out placed second in the Belmont Derby. He comes into this one 100% in the money from five starts.
$2 WIN  / $3 SHOW.

#9 Tourist (Rosario / Mott) will challenge with the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and two stout workouts. He will be stretching out to this longer distance, but as a son of Tiznow, it should not be a problem for him.  This lad has already secured three victories over Turf from three starts on the surface.

#8 Can'thelpbelieving (Graham / Motion) should contend with a couple of good last out speed numbers and one robust workout. This son of Duke of Marmalade [IRE] is coming off a longer route and relishes this surface. Expect him to track and close into stretch.

#3 Magician [IRE] (J. O'Brien / A. O'Brien) will be the favorite with  a strong racing record on the European circuit.  He is 100% in the money from four starts at this, his favored distance. A son of Galileo [IRE], he should be tracking the pace closely, ready to shoot through the stretch.

#6 Real Solution (Castellano / C. Brown) will challenge with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and four explosive workouts. As a son of the great Kitten's Joy, he has a strong affinity for the Turf. He is another that will be in the track pack.

#2 Smoking Sun (Pasquier / Bary) is another Euro invader looking for the thrill of victory in the states. He was last seen taking a second in Singapore after spending his career on the European continent.  This lad is a son of Smart Strike.  Expect him to show a furious closing kick.

Tune Up before the MILLION

It is the Friday before MILLION day.

The Arlington Million will be run, tomorrow, Saturday (8/16). Looking at the undercard it will be a phenomenal day of handicapping, wagering, and racing.

Today we make a little tune-up by examining a nice Turf mile.

A good line-up of seven will go to the grass in this early afternoon feature. There is a great deal of speed and forwardly placed types that could create a barn burner of a race. These gals are closely aligned in their speed numbers.  It could be an unpredictable race.

#3 Royal Alluvial (Baird / Catalano) could run off with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two robust workouts. She should be part of the front running pack ready to breakaway going into the stretch.

#1 Paschendale (Homeister / Domenosky) should challenge with the third highest last out speed number at a longer route. She holds a good in the money record of 63% over the surface from eleven starts. This gal will also be part of the front running pack.

Horse Racing Weekend begins at the Spa

Its MILLION week.  Today, for the start of our horse racing weekend we take in a nice little stakes race at that great upstate New York horse racing paradise.

Saratoga Race 4 {Saratoga Dew Stakes~1 1/8 mile~3 year old Up~fillies/mares~Stakes}
A satisfying group of seven gals will hit the dirt in this early carded feature. There is sufficient speed to carry the pack through quick fractions. These ladies are closely matched in terms of speed numbers, but only two have gone this distance.  It should be a tremendous race.

#3 Tahoe Tigress (J. Ortiz / Englehart) has the talent to get the job done. She holds the highest last out speed number, a six race progression, and three solid peaking workouts.  This gal is one of the two that have gone this distance.  Expect her to close smoothly into a decent pace.

Superfecta Sunday in Sunny Southern California

On to sunny Southern California for this superb Superfecta Sunday.

A sound group of seven gals will go to the grass in this Sunday afternoon feature.  There is a bit of forwardly placed types to keep the pace steady.  These gals speed figures compare favorably. Most in here are coming off a brief freshening.  Our task with this competitive field is to fasten together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#6 Miss Serendipity [ARG] (Bejarano / McAnally) looks the best with by far the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and four excellent peaking workouts.  She has the tactical speed to control the pace and stride away from this field.

#2 Every Way (Talamo / Stidham) should challenge with the second highest last out speed number at a longer route and two robust workouts. This will be her first race over the Del Mar Turf, but she appears to ship well.  She is our Bronze Horseshoe runner.

#5 Moulin d Mougin (Smith / Mandella) will contend with a couple of very good last out speed numbers and four strong peaking workouts.  She has the ability to track closely in a forwardly placed position and jump into the stretch.

We scuttled our superfecta due to two key scratches within our selections.  Superfecta went 5-2-4-1.

A Magnificent Stakes Saturday along the Jersey Shore

On to the Jersey Shore for Stakes Saturday where we take in a highly competitive route for the gals.

Monmouth Park Race 11 {Monmouth Oaks~G3~1 1/16 mile~3 year old~Fillies~Stakes}
A group of ten beautiful fillies will go to the gate in this graded stakes feature.  There is enough speed to keep an honest pace.  All of these gals speed figs are very close. Most have positive in the money records.  It should be a very exciting race.

#5 Cassatt (Clark / L. Jones) might have a slight edge with the fourth highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three supreme workouts.  This lightly raced daughter of Tapit is 100% in the money from three career starts.  She comes into this race off a win at Delaware Park.  This gal should be tracking the pace ready to make her move.

#7 Size (Alvarado / Mott) should challenge with the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and two stout workouts.  This daughter of First Samurai may be hoping to control the pace or sit right off it. She holds the highest speed number at the distance, albeit over a muddy track.

A Little Arlington Turf for Friday

We once again take in a little Turf action at that great race track in the Chicago area.

A competitive crew of nine will go to the green in this feature Turf race.  Speed is almost non-existent in this one with only two that like to be forwardly placed.  The speed numbers, however, are relatively comparable.

Horse Racing Weekend Begins at Arlington International

On this first day of our horse racing weekend, we gear up for the Arlington Million on August 16th, by taking in a nice Turf mile race at fabulous Arlington International.

Superfecta Sunday at Del Mar

An enjoyable Superfecta Sunday unrolls where the Surf meets the Turf.

A solid field of eight will step up to the gate. There is enough speed and forwardly placed types to keep the pace honest.  All of these colts (and one gelding) will be stretching out to this distance for the first time.  There is no telling which one will make a big step forward.  All are equally talented to pull off the victory.  Our task is to attempt to sew together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta ticket.

#5 Rowdy Dylan (Maldonado / P. Miller) might have a slight edge with the highest (tie) last out speed number and a two race progression. He should be tracking the pace in his third start of the form cycle.  He could score nicely.

#7 Skyway (Elliott / Casse) will challenge having already scored a win over the poly down at Keeneland.  He holds the fourth highest last out speed number and has put in two solid workouts over the Del Mar poly.  He is our Bronze Horseshoe runner.

Stakes Saturday at the Spa

A great day of stakes races all across the land.  On this Saturday we focus on a Turf race at the Spa.

A fantastic group of nine will take to the green in one of a number of stakes races on today's card.  There is enough speed in here, particularly on the outside, to keep a fluid pace.  The speed numbers at the distance are fairly close.  It could be any gals race.

#7 Pianist (J. Ortiz / C. Brown) will be making her first start this year.  She is strong off the layoff and appears ready to tackle this field.  She holds a 66% win record at this distance and has put in four very powerful workouts in preparation for her return to racing.  This daughter of More Than Ready absolutely loves the Saratoga course.

Furlong Friday at Del Mar

To the Pacific coast we go to enjoy a nice sprint stakes race.

A Splendid group of twelve will make their start in this California bred stakes race.  There is plenty of speed to keep the race moving along nicely. All of these fellas are close in terms of speed numbers. It should be a sweet race.
