Back in Action, Horse Racing Weekend

After a brief respite in which we played in the Gold Coast Casino Summer Classic, we are back in action for our Horse Racing Weekend.  On this Friday we take a look at a great Stakes race in upstate New York.

Saratoga Race 4 {Curlin Stakes~1 1/8 mile~3 year old~Stakes}

A great group of six will go to the gate in this superb stakes race. There is speed to maintain a reasonable pace. These are all improving colts and a gelding that seek to move the needle on their respective speed numbers. It should be a very competitive event.

#3 Tekton (Cintron / A. Dutrow) should have a slight edge with the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and three hearty workouts. This lad has the tactical speed to settle in comfortably and rush through the stretch.

#2 Stanford (J. Velazquez / Pletcher) will challenge with the third highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two solid workouts. He is the lone runner that has traversed the Saratoga track. This lad could take up the task as the pace leader seeking to wire this field.

#5 Smart Transition (Alvarado / Shirreffs) should contend with the second highest last out speed number, a five race progression, and two strong workouts. He should be tracking the pace and hit the stretch with flourish. This guy will be stretching out for this event.

#4 Unrivaled (Lezcano / Montoya) will be in the mix with the fourth highest last out speed number and one sound workout. He is another that will track the pace and quicken going into the stretch. This guy appears to be in fine form.

Superfecta Sunday on Jersey Turf, Episode Two

We return to the wonderful Jersey Turf for this Superfecta Sunday, viewing a nice mile allowance race.

Monmouth Park Race 9 {1 mile~TURF~3 year old Up~fillies/mares~Allowance}

A salty group of ten will go to the gate in this grass allowance.  There is enough speed to keep a decent pace on. Speed numbers indicate a competitive contest. Most in here have an above 50% overall in the money record. It should be a fantastic race. Our task is to knit together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#10 Forest Funds (Navarro / Preciado) might have the edge with a couple of decent last out speed numbers, a two race progression, and two solid workouts. She should be forwardly placed close to the pace setters. This gal holds the second highest speed number at the distance. She is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.
$2 SHOW.

#5 Cali Thirty Seven (Worrie / Orseno) has been showing decent form and exits a longer route where she earned the highest last out speed number of the group. She is working a five race progression and should make another step forward. She likes the Monmouth Turf all the while being forwardly placed.

#6 Wildly Good Lookin (Olivero / Ryan) should compete with the third highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two stout peaking workouts. She has achieved a victory at this distance in one try. This gal has the tactical ability to show speed or track the pace.

#4 Offlee Sheikh (Bocachica / Vitali) should contend with a couple of last out in the money performances and two sharp peaking workouts. She moves up in class with a terrific 80% in the money record. This girl is another that relishes the Jersey Turf.

Stakes Saturday On the Turf, Near the Surf

We roll into Stakes Saturday with a Grade One Turf Race at fabulous Del Mar.

Del Mar Race 4 {Eddie Read~G1~1 1/8 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~Graded Stakes}

A great group of seven will hit the grass in this annual event. There is enough speed to produce a fluid pace. Speed numbers are very close. All are well prepped for this contest. It should be an exciting race.

#3 Midnight Storm (T. Baze / D'Amato) should be the favorite and deservedly so with the highest last out speed number and two superb workouts. This son of Pioneer of the Nile should be forwardly placed ready to roll. He has a proven record at Del Mar of two victories from two starts here. Certainly will be the one to beat.
$2 WIN  /  $3 SHOW.

#4 Power Ped (Stevens / Drysdale) is coming off a modest layoff, but should fire well. He fits right in with the second highest (tie) last out speed number and a two race progression prior to the layoff. This lad has put in four fierce workouts in preparation for this one. A son of Powerscourt [GB], he should have a clean tracking trip and explode into the stretch.

#5 Big Cazanova [ARG] (Graham / Miller) should contend with a couple of decent last out speed numbers, coming off a longer route, and three strong workouts. This son of Giant's Causeway should show speed and attempt to wire the field. He does like the Del Mar surroundings have traveled well over its former synthetic surface.

#2 Gabriel Charles (Smith / Mullins) should challenge sharing the second highest last out speed number, working a three race progression, and putting in three terrific peaking workouts. This son of Street Hero should track and close gallantly. He loves the Del Mar course.

Furlong Friday at Del Mar

Off to a slow start out of the gate for this horse racing weekend. Today we take a look at a nice claiming race out where the "Surf Meets the Turf".

Del Mar Thoroughbred Club Race 2 {6 furlongs~3 year-old Up~Claiming}

A good group of claimers will take to the dirt in this early race. There is a sufficient amount of speed to keep a sensible pace. Speed numbers are incredibly close making for a competitive race.

#2 No Contingency (Maldonado / Bonde) looks to have the edge with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two solid workouts. This lad should take up the front end seeking to wire this field. He holds the third highest (tie) speed number at the distance along with a 66% in the money record from twelve starts.
$2 SHOW.

#4 Justification (Graham / Carava) should challenge with a confidence building win last out at Albuquerque Downs. He comes into this off a brief freshening all the while putting in four superb peaking workouts. This lad holds the fourth highest speed number at the distance. He should take great advantage of any heat on the pace by closing gallantly.

Superfecta Sunday on Jersey Turf

A little Turf mile for Superfecta Sunday.

Monmouth Park Race 7 {1 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~fillies/mares~Claiming}

A swell group of nine will go to the Jersey grass in this Turf contest. A ton of speed and forwardly placed types show up for this one. Speed figs are fairly similar which should produce a competitive event. Our task is to weave together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#8 Subpoena (Bravo / Gonzalez) has an edge with the highest last out speed number at a longer route and one solid workout. She loves the Monmouth course with a 66% in the money record from twenty-one starts over it. Look for her to close vibrantly. This lady is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#10 Archer Queen (A. Castellano / McBurney) should challenge with the second highest last out speed number at a longer route, a five race progression, and one peaking workout. She should be able to close well in what should shape up as a speed-fest.

#2 First Acquittal (G. Saez / Machiz) should contend with the third highest (tie) last out speed number at a longer route, a four race progression, and two hearty workouts. She is another that will track and close with spirit.

#7 Bobs Pinup Girl (Worrie / Falcone) will be in the mix with the fourth highest last out speed number and one sound workout. She shares the highest speed number at the distance with two others, including our top pick. This girl will be among those closing furiously in the stretch.

Stakes Saturday on the Turf

We enjoy a thrilling Stakes Saturday on Turf from Wilmington, Delaware.

Delaware Park Race 9 {Robert G. Dick Memorial Stakes~1 3/8 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~fillies/mares~Stakes}

A reduced field of nine will hit the grass in this annual affair.  There is a smattering of speed which could allow those forwardly placed types a bit of advantage. All of these ladies have fairly robust speed numbers making for a highly competitive event. It should be one of the better Turf classics on this Stakes Saturday.

#1 Kittens Point (Prado / Motion) should be able to handle this field if the pace kicks into high gear. She holds the highest last out speed number at a longer Turf route, a two race progression, and four excellent peaking workouts. This daughter of Kittens Joy should be able to handle this distance and kick in capably.

#10 Courtesean (Rosario / C. Brown) should challenge with the third highest (tie) last out speed number at a longer Turf route and three solid works. She holds a victory at this distance earning her the highest (tie) speed number of the group. A daughter of the great Street Sense, she should take up a credible tracking position ready to vault towards the front.

#6 Ceistech [IRE] (Hill / Proctor) had shown speed in her last and with few speedsters in this race, she could carry the day. She comes into this with the fourth highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three bullets workouts. This daughter of New Approach [IRE] has the highest overall in the money record of 75% from eight starts.

#3 Striking Style (Cintron / Matz) should be forwardly placed which should aid her cause. This gal holds a couple of very good last out speed numbers and two successful workouts. She has the second best overall in the money record at 72%. This daughter of Smart Strike will be stretching out a furlong for this race.

Friday Turf in New York

Today we take a look at a nice Turf contest at magnificent Belmont Park.

A interesting group of eight ladies will take to the Turf in this feature.  There is plenty of speed to produce a ripping pace. Speed numbers are all fairly close which should make for a competitive contest. It should be an exciting race.

#1 Charm City Girl (J. Velazquez / Motion) has the edge with the second highest (tie) last out speed number at a longer route and four superb workouts. She is 100% in the money on the surface and 85% in the money lifetime. This gal loves the Belmont surface and should be tracking the leaders.

#5 Keri Belle (Alvarado / Shirreffs) looks to compete sharing the second highest last out speed number and putting in two hearty workouts. She holds the second highest speed number at the distance. Expect her to track what should be a speedy pace.

Horse Racing Weekend begins on the Poly

Clouds with a touch of sun here in Chicago as we begin our horse racing weekend on the polytrack at Arlington International.

A fantastic field of eight will take to the poly in this high quality allowance race. There is enough speed to create a strong pace. The speed figures are closer that ever in this field. Any one of these fellas could win this race. A great race should unfold.

#5 Dimension [GB] (Geroux / Murphy) could have the edge with the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number at a longer sprint and two sound workouts. This guy has been competing at a much higher level including a few graded stakes. With a strong pace, he could be closing swiftly into the stretch.

#4 Creative Art (Gudiel / Becker) should battle well sharing the fourth highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and one hearty workout. This lad has the highest in the money record (81%) at the distance from sixteen starts. He should also track the pace closely.

Superfecta Sunday along the Jersey Shore

Another glorious day of racing as we celebrate Superfecta Sunday. Onto the Jersey shore for one of the premiere Turf races of the summer.

Monmouth Park Race 11 {United Nations~G1~1 3/8 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~Graded Stakes}

Nine of the best Turf specialists in North America will make their run in this annual graded event. There is enough speed and forwardly placed types to keep the pace rolling. There are four millionaires or near million dollar horses in the field. Nearly all have hit the triple digit number in terms of speed figs. This should be one of the absolute best Turf races of this magnificent summer. Our task is to mold a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#8 Ashleyluvssugar (Stevens / Eurton). Yes he does. And he likes to be forwardly placed with the second highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and four snappy peaking workouts. She exits a longer Turf route and drops into this distance for the first time. This gelding comes in from the opposite coast with three wins in a row. He is our Bronze Horseshoe runner.

#6 Main Sequence (Maragh / Motion) will challenge like the champion he is. Coming off a minor layoff he should fire fresh with his 100% in the money record at the distance and four fantastic peaking workouts. He shares with two others the second highest speed number at the distance. This lad will track the pace and explode into the stretch.

#5 Slumber [GB] (I. Ortiz / C. Brown) should contend with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two hearty workouts. This guy should be tracking the pace carefully and dive right into the stretch battle.

#3 Big Blue Kitten (Bravo / C. Brown) should be ready to rumble with the third highest last out speed number and two solid workouts. He should use his kick to great advantage should the pace begin to quicken. This millionaire is also 100% in the money at this distance.

Stakes Saturday at Bountiful Belmont

Happy Independence Day!!

On this Stakes Saturday we take a look at what one day might become the first leg of the Triple Crown of Turf, The Belmont Derby.

Belmont Park Race 8 {Belmont Derby--G1~1 1/4 mile~TURF~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A great group of nine Turfers including two that have come from across the pond. There is sufficient speed to keep an honest pace. The speed figs come up so close that it could be any horse's race. It should be a significant race to watch and wager.

#1 Takeover Target (I. Ortiz / C. Brown) appears to be in great form and ready to tackle this talented crew. He holds the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number, a three race progression, and three superb workouts. This son of Harlan's Holiday should track the pace fluidly and strike in the stretch.

#4 Canndal [FR] (Soumillon / Delzangles) is coming in from France having run successfully in strong competition. He has a solid in the money record of 80% from five starts. This lad has been in the money in his last two starts and is one of two that have gone this distance. He is a son of Medicean [GB] and loves the grass.

#9 Granny's Kitten (Leparoux / Maker) should challenge sharing the fourth highest last out speed number, working a three race progression, and putting in two sound workouts. This son of Kitten's Joy has the versatile running style to fit the pace. He has been in the money in all of his three career starts.

#7 Postulation (Smullen / Weld) is the other Euro that has gone this distance successfully racing over in Ireland. This lad is 87% in the money from eight starts. Another son of Harlan's Holiday, he should relish the distance and the Belmont green.

Furlong Friday in Chicago

Beautiful weather in Chicago for a Turf sprint at magnificent Arlington International.

Arlington International Race 7 {5 furlongs~TURF~3 year-old Up~Claiming}

A great group of nine sprinters will hit the green in this late afternoon feature. There is plenty of speed to keep this one fast paced. Speed numbers are all close which will make it highly competitive. It should be a excellent race.

#1 Rikco Man (Murrill / Stidham) has a slight edge with the second highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and one sound workout. This lad has already notched a victory at this distance, the only one of this group. He should be sitting just off the pace seeking to score.

He is another that will be trying the Turf for the first time, but his pedigree indicates he will enjoy it. This guy should be sitting right off the pace.

#3 Edging (Edg. Perez / Williamson) should be in the mix sharing the second highest last out speed number, working a two race progression, and throwing down three superb workouts. This lad has the tactical running style to fit the developing pace.

A Race One Horse Racing Weekend Start

We open our Horse Racing weekend with the first race at Big Sandy.

Belmont Park Race 1 {6 furlongs~3 year-old Up~NY~Maiden Claiming}

A short field of six will make the start in the first one on the card. There is one speedster and three firsters that could insure an honest pace. Half the field has speed figures that closely resemble one another. The balance of the field is making their first start. It should be a good race to launch the Belmont card.

#4 Jai Alai (J. Ortiz / Hushion) will be making his second start after scoring the second highest last out speed number of the group. In that race he tracked the pace and settled for fourth. He will be coming down in distance from a loner sprint and has put in three robust workouts.
