Superfecta Sunday in Houston

Have to get some Turf in our system as we look in on Houston for our Superfecta Sunday.

Sam Houston Race Park Race 8 {John B. Connally Turf Cup~G3~1 1/2 mile~TURF~4 year old Up~Graded Stakes}

An interesting group of eight will hit the Houston grass in this annual stakes race. There is very little speed. Speed numbers are fairly close. A number ship in from other circuits which should give it a great deal more competitiveness. Our task is to thread a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#8 Oscar Nominated (Geroux / Maker) might have the edge with the second highest last out speed number and one quality workout. This lad will stretch out to the distance, but should be quite capable of handling it. He should be tracking the pace closely. He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.
$2 SHOW.

#4 Bigger Picture (J. Ortiz / Maker) will submit a mighty challenge with the highest speed number at the distance and four superb peaking workouts. This guy also holds the highest speed number over the Turf. He is another that should be close to the pace.

#5 Greengrassofyoming (Albarado / Maker) should contend with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and four hearty workouts. The most seasoned horse in the race, he will be closing gallantly into the stretch.

#1 Domikate (Singh / Pearson) could be in the hunt with the fourth highest last out speed number and two robust workouts. He loves the Turf surface and the Sam Houston course. Expect him to track the pace relatively closely, then spring into the stretch.

Stakes Saturday at Gulfstream Park

On this Stakes Saturday, all eyes will be on the Pegasus World Cup with the indomitable California Chrome running his last race of a stellar career.

Today we look at a phenomenal race on the Turf.

Gulfstream Park Race 11 {W.L. McKnight~G3~1 1/2 mile~TURF~4 year-old Up~Graded Stakes}

A great crew of twelve will hit the green in this annual graded stakes race. It comes up a little light on speed, but a few will be in here to set a reasonable pace. Speed numbers are very close giving the race a terrific competitiveness. Five in here are coming off of marathon type races on the green. There is a single millionaire, Twilight Eclipse. It should be a fantastic race leading up to the big one.

#10 Mr. Maybe (Castellano / C. Brown) will be stretching out for this classic distance coming out of a modest layoff. He holds the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and four excellent workouts. A son of Ghostzapper, he should track the pace fluidly and strike in the stretch run. He should move forward going long.

#4 Danish Dynaformer (Rosario / Attfield) is also coming off a bit of a layoff. He holds the second highest last out speed number and three sensational workouts. This lad is another tracker which should position himself nicely for the coming quickening. A son of Dynaformer, he should improve upon his record of two wins at the distance.

#1 Tagheeb (Gaffalione / Maker) should challenge with the fourth highest last out speed number at a much longer Turf route and two stout workouts. This closer loves the Gulfstream course holding a stunning 83% in the money record from six starts over it. A son of Hard Spun, expect him to charge hard in the stretch.

#2 Montclair [IRE] (Prado / De la Cerda) should be in the mix with a couple of very good last out speed numbers, a two race progression, and two hearty workouts. This lad loves the distance and the course, He should take up a nice tracking position and spring into the stretch. A son of Montijeu [IRE], he seems to be sitting on a tremendous effort.

#6 Charming Kitten (Smith / Maker) will be looking for substantial improvement over his last which was a longer route over the turf. This guy holds the third highest speed number at the distance couple with a 66% in the money record at same. One of three sons of Kitten's Joy, he should be the one that does his pappy proud today.

Friday at Fair Grounds

Best of Luck to all of the Horse Players competing in the National Handicapping Championship this weekend in Las Vegas.

On this Friday we take a peek at a nice mile race down in New Orleans.

Fair Grounds Race 7 {1 mile~3 year-old~Allowance Optional Claiming}

A great crop of seven three year-olds will enter the gate in this dirt mile race. There is enough speed to carry the pace. Speed numbers are fairly close giving it some competitiveness. It should be a grand start for our horse racing weekend.

#8 Bobby the Brain (Murrill / Stidham) might have the edge with the third highest last out speed number at a longer route and two superb workouts. This lad should be part of the crew on the front end. He relishes the surface and the Fair Grounds track. With a hat tip to the NHC we'll make our play accordingly.
$2 WIN  /  $2 PLACE.

#3 Society Beau (Albarado / Howard) should challenge with the second highest last out speed number at a longer route and three fine peaking workouts. He is another that enjoys the surface and the Fair Grounds track. The most experienced colt in the contest, he is 85% in the money from seven starts.

#4 It's Your Nickel (Graham / McPeek) should contend with the fourth highest last out speed number at a longer route, a two race progression, and two hearty workouts. He will be making his third career start after racing up at Saratoga and Belmont for his first two starts. This guy should be tracking the pace ready to strike.

Superfecta Sunday in Hot Springs

We take a look at nice Arkansas route early on the card for our Superfecta Sunday.

Oaklawn Park Race 3 {1 mile~3 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~Waiver Claiming}

This is a unique bunch of eight that will go to the gate. It is a race that is lacking in speed. The question then becomes who will be sent or pick up the pace by default? Speed numbers are fairly close which should make for a competitive event. Only two in this one have raced over the Arkansas dirt. All of this makes this one a very intriguing race. Our task is to string together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#4 Freedom March [GB] (Santana / Gorder) might have the edge with the second highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and one peaking bullet workout. This lass should track the pace closely and launch into the stretch. She shares the second highest speed number at the distance couple with a 75% in the money record from four efforts at same. She is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.
$2 SHOW.

#1 Ol Sanish (Vazquez / Villafranco) could go off at the favorite with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and one stout workout. She is the most experienced of the group and loves the Oaklawn track holding a 75% in the money record over it. This gal is another tracker that cruise nicely in a ground saving trip.

#7 Por Favor (E. Perez / Puhl) should challenge with the highest speed number at the distance coupled with a good 66% in the money record at same. She is another that should be part of the tracking crew. With ample rest she comes forward to the race with three hearty workouts.

#5 Cleverness (Birzer / Chelborad) should contend coming off an extended layoff. She holds the second highest overall speed number. This gal will get a nice change of scenery coming up from the Florida circuit. He workout tab of three excellent peaking works is an indication that she is ready.

Stakes Saturday at Night

Looking in on Kentucky for a nice stakes race.

Turfway Park Race 6 {Forego Stakes~6 1/2 furlongs~4 year-old Up~Stakes}

A great group of nine will go to the gate in this annual sprint. There is plenty of speed to produce a strong pace. Speed numbers are all fairly close. All of these lads have traveled over synthetic surface with aplomb. It should be a very exciting race in the night.

#6 Dac (Prescott / Brumley) looks duplicate his last out winning effort in a stakes event. he holds the second highest last out speed number at a route, a four race progression, and two dynamic workouts. This son of Distorted Humor should track the pace in solid position.

Superfecta Sunday in South Florida

On this Superfecta Sunday we take a look at a splendid Turf allowance race.

Gulfstream Park Race 9 {7 1/2 Furlongs~TURF~4 year-old Up~Allowance Optional Claiming}

A great group of ten will go to the green in this allowance feature. There is enough speed to keep the pace rolling. Speed numbers are close comparatively speaking.  A number in here will be trying the Gulfstream course for the first time and a few will be hitting the grass for the first time. It should be an exhilarating race. Our task is to knit together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#6 Performance Bonus (Castellano / C. Brown) should get the job done with the highest (tie) last out speed number, a five race progression, and four serious workouts. This lad should take up a nice tracking position and gain ground coming into the stretch. This Turf lover is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#5 Hockey School (Leparoux / Lynch) should challenge while traveling on or near the front end. He shares the highest last out speed number, holds a two race progression, and has put in four superb workouts. He is only one of two that have gone this distance and has hit the board once from two tries.

#7 Conquest Panthera (J. Lezcano / Casse) will contend with the third highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three sensational peaking workouts. This lad will be part of the tracking crew and should strike in the stretch.

#9 All Included (J. Velazquez / Pletcher) is coming off a lengthy layoff, but should be fit enough to round out our Superfecta play. A full group of twelve will travel over the grass in this annual event. There is enough speed to keep an honest pace. Speed numbers are fairly close giving it a competitive feel. All in here have gone comfortable over this distance with in the money performances. It should be one of the best races of the day.

#7 Divisidero (Prado / Bradley) should fire fresh off an extended layoff. Prior to the layoff he fired off two exceptional speed numbers and has put in the best workout tab with four tremendous peaking works. This son of Kitten's Joy should be tracking and closing smoothly in the stretch.

#4 Realm (P. Lopez / Tagg) might have the edge with the third highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and three significant peaking workouts. With a lot of forwardly placed types he benefit with his tracking capability. A son of a Haynesfield, he is 100% in the money at the mile distance.

#7 Team Colors (Lezcano  / Jerkens) is coming off a lengthy layoff, but appears to be ready take on these fellas. A son of Street Cry [IRE], he should love tracking and closing in on this crew.

Stakes Saturday at the "Great Race Place"

We take in some seriously good stakes action in Southern California.

Santa Anita Race 9 {San Gabriel~G2~1 1/8 mile~TURF~4 year-old Up~Graded Stakes}

A excellent group of eight will hit the Turf in this annual contest. It comes up short on speed which may default to the horse in post position one. Speed numbers are so very close that it could turn out to be any one of these equines race. The race has been moved off the turf making it ever more challenging. It should be a very exciting race.

#11 Ring Weekend (Van Dyke / Motion) should carry favoritism with the highest (tie) last out speed number, a three race progression, and three superb peaking workouts. He is the sole millionaire in the race. A son of Tapit, he should track the pace and shoot through into the stretch.
$2 WIN  /  $3 SHOW.

#9 Twentytwenty Vision (Smith / Mandella) should challenge with the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number and four strong peaking workouts. This lad has never been out of the money in his fourteen career starts. A son of Pollard's Vision he should be able to track and close sharply.

#5 Isinthepost [FR] (T. Baze / Mullins) should contend holding the third highest (tie) last out speed number and three significant workouts. He holds the highest speed number at the distance. A son of American Post [GB], he should perform a pure tracking move connecting to the stretch in speedy fashion.

Furlong Friday in Warm Florida

We look to Florida for some warmth and great Turf racing. For our Furlong Friday we take in a competitive Turf Sprint.

Gulfstream Park Race 1 {5 Furlongs~TURF~3 year-old~Maiden Claiming}

A good group of eight will take to the green in this first on the card event. There is speed to insure a strong pace. Two first time starters will make their presence know, both with good Turf pedigree. Speed numbers of the remaining are all fairly close, three of which will making their first start over the Turf surface. Most Maiden Claiming races are difficult to handicap and this one is no exception. Lots to like about all of the entrants in this one.

#6 Dynamic Dancer (Leparoux / Biancone) should go off as the deserved favorite with the highest last out speed number, a five race progression, and two powerful bullet workouts. This guy loves the surface, the distance, and the course. He should be forwardly placed and take off into the stretch.
$1 WIN.

#5 Strong Breeze (Lanerie / Kenneally) is making his first start with a couple of good workouts in preparation. Strong connections should get this guy in good position to grab a piece of the purse pie. This son of Mizzen Mast should have an affinity for the Turf.

#3 Gray Ransom (Gaffalione / Blair) should contend with a couple of decent last out speed numbers over the dirt. He should be the speed of the race and could take all of these all the way around the course. He appears rested and ready having put in two solid workouts prepping for this one.

First Horse Racing Weekend of 2017

We begin our first Horse Racing weekend of the New Year with a nice synthetic sprint down in ol' Kentucky.

Turfway Park Race 6 {6 Furlongs~4 year-old Up~Claiming}

An interesting group of nine will be making their first start of the year in this claiming race.
There is sufficient speed to keep the pace honest. Speed numbers are fairly close. A couple in here will be trying the synth for the first time. It should be a decent race in the cold evening.

#8 He's a Dandy Candy (O. Mojica / Godsey) looks to be in good form with the highest (tie) last out speed number a shorter sprint and a four race progression. He should be trailing the pace close to the leaders. This guy is 100% in the money over the surface from two efforts.
He is our Dividend play.
$2 SHOW.

#3 Forest Mist (Jimenez / Hubley) is coming our of a more competitive race and fits here well. He holds the fourth highest last out speed number and one strong workout. This lad enjoys the distance and holds the best overall in the money performance at 60% from ten career starts.

#2 Latin Wild Cat (McKee / Eubanks) could surprise exiting a route of ground in his last race. He has a couple of o.k. last out speed figs and has put in a peaking workout. No stranger to Turfway, he should compete nobly with his tactical speed.

#5 Captain Cook (Pusac / Rodriguez) should be in the mix as he comes out of route race back to his most favorable distance holding a 72% in the money record at it. He has put in decent workout while kicking back with a short layoff. This guy should fire fresh as the potential leader.

New Year Monday Special

Off we go swiftly into the New Year as the road to the Kentucky Derby begins in earnest. Today we look at a New York route with KD143 points on the line.

Aqueduct Race 8 {Jerome~G3~1 mile70 yards~3 year old~Graded Stakes}

A talented group of seven will go to the gate in this annual dirt route at the "Big A". There are a couple of speedsters couple with three sprinters stretching out which should produce an honest pace. Speed numbers are relatively close, but any of these lads can make a great improvement anytime during this season. It should be a very good race.

#3 Takaful (J. Ortiz / McLaughlin) should be the deserved favorite. He already has a two derby points and looks to add to his KD treasure chest. This guy has the third highest (tie) last out speed number at a longer route and one terrific bullet workout. A son of Bernardini, he should show speed and has the ability to wire this field.
$1 WIN.
