Superfecta Sunday in Hot Springs

 On this Superfecta Sunday we look in on a sprint race in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Oaklawn Park Race 11 {6 Furlongs~4 year-old Up~Claiming}

A rigorous field of twelve will go to the gate in this penultimate race on the card.

There is plenty of speed in this race. Speed figs are fairly close with six posting triple digits speed numbers among the entrants. All but one have raced over the Oaklawn dirt. It should be a fine race to handicap and wager.

#1 Santos Dumant (Bejarano / Hartman) will drop in distance with the tactical speed to settle into the pace. He holds the highest last out speed number and two sharp workouts. This gelding loves the dirt and the Oaklawn track. A son of Street Sense, he is 60% in the money from twenty starts.

#9 Bron and Brow (E. Asmussen / S. Asmussen) loves the dirt and distance. He has cobbled together three good last out speed numbers. This gelding will be among the trackers in the field. A son of Gromley, he is 60% in the money from twenty-five starts.

#2 Lundberg (Arrieta / A. Hernandez) also has the tactical speed to settle in the pace. He holds the second highest (tie) last out speed number and one solid workout. This gelding is good on the dirt and at the distance. A son of Uncle Mo, he is 57% in the money from nineteen starts.

#6 Sweet as Sin (W. De La Cruz / Puhl) has improved his speed figs in his last three culminating with a win at the distance. He should track the pace closely. This guy runs well over the dirt, at the distance, and on the track. A son of Candy Ride [ARG], he is 54% in the money from eleven starts.

#10 Magia Nera (Camacho / Jacobson) comes in with the third highest last out speed number at a slightly longer sprint and four efficient works. He is another that will track the pace closely and strike. A son of Bernardini, is 50% in the money from twenty starts.

Stakes Saturday at the "Big A"

 We venture to the "Big Apple" for one of the last remaining Kentucky Derby preps.

Aqueduct Race 12 {Wood Memorial~G2~1 1/8 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A reduced field of ten will enter the gate in this annual Derby prep.

Past Performances used:  Equibase.

There is plenty of speedy and forwardly placed types to keep the pace sizzling. Speed numbers are fairly close with two posting three-digit figures. Half the field will try the Aqueduct dirt for the first time. All but two are nominated to the Triple Crown. The entire field seems to be well prepped as they look to rack up Derby points. It should be a fantastic race on a very good Aqueduct card.

#2 Captain Cook (M. Franco / R. Dutrow) is one of two that have won at this distance. He holds the fourth highest last out speed number and four superb workouts. This guy should track the pace closely looking to position for the stretch run. He will be seeking his third win in a row showing a three-race speed fig progression. A son of Practical Joke, he has a 66% win rate from three starts.

#8 Passion Rules (Carmouche / B. Cox) is another that should track the pace as he seeks his fourth win in a row. On a last out win he holds a good speed fig and two powerful workouts. He will be one of seven stretching out to this distance. It will be his first effort over the Aqueduct track. A son of Firesian Fire, he holds a 100% win rate from three starts.

$2 PLACE  /  $3 SHOW.

#1 Rodriguez (M. Smith / Baffert) will show speed. He had a very good speed fig last out and has put in three strong peaking workouts in preparation. This will be his first start over the Aqueduct track as he stretches out to this distance. He is one of the runners that has posted a triple digit speed number. A son of Authentic, he 1s 100% in the money from four starts.

#5 Sand Devil (J. Lezcano / L. Rice) has hit the board with triple digit speed figs in his last three races. This lad should be part of the speed team on the front-end. He loves the dirt and the Aqueduct track as he stretches out to the distance. A son of Violence, he is 100% in the money from four starts.

#7 Grande (D. Davis / Pletcher) is another that has won at this distance. He will be making his third start after winning the first two. He comes in from Gulfstream Park with a very good last out speed number and three sound workouts. This colt should sit right behind the speed. A son of Curlin, he has a 100% win rate from two starts.

#11 Statesman (Marin / McGaughey) should settle into a good tracking position. He holds the second highest last out speed number and four diligent workouts. It will be his first try over the Aqueduct oval after two wins in a row down at Tampa Bay Downs. A son of Constitution, he is 60% in the money from five starts.

Furlong Friday at Santa Anita

 We are back to Furlong Friday with a twist. Let's give a little "rolling show parlay" a try and attack the 10 CENT Superfecta with a different wager structure. This will be an exercise to hone our handicapping skills a bit. Time to shake things up.

We look in on a challenging Maiden Claiming sprint at that "Great Race Place".

Santa Anita Race 5 {6 Furlongs~3 year-old~Maiden Claiming}

A field of eleven will go to the gate in this mid-card event.

Past Performances used:  Equibase.

There is enough speed to produce an honest pace. Three first time starters enter the fray. Seven have already raced over the Santa Anita track. One comes off a layoff, down from Golden Gate. All but four have competed at this distance. It should be a good race.

#7 Code Breaker (Aguilar / Pederson) is our win candidate entering his third race of the form cycle. He holds the fourth highest last out speed number and two superb workouts. Look for him to track and strike. This guy has hit the board in both of his starts. A son of Desert Code, he is 100% in the money from those two starts.

#2 Unbreakable Trust (Ayuso / Sadler) is our selection to hit the board. He comes in with a decent last out speed number at a slightly longer distance and four strong peaking workouts. This lad will track the pace closely. A son of Accelerate, he is 40% in the money from five starts.

 #1 Jaguar Jon (F. Alvarado / Miyadi) First time starter with excellent Jockey/Trainer stats. Son of Om looks ready to roll.

#9 Naval Harbor (A. Espinoza / Ruvalcaba) comes off a longer layoff down from Golden Gate. Son of Gig Harbor, looks poised to pounce in the closing strides.

#6 Mutt Dillin (Valdivia / Capestro) holds the second highest last out speed number. Son of Divining Rod, could be the controlling speed.

#3 El Ondeado (T. Baze / Periban) holds the highest last out speed number. This guy should track the pace closely. Another son of Om, he is 50% in the money.

#5 General Jackson (A. Lezcano / O'Neill) should show improvement in his sixth start. A son of Maximus Mischief, he will track the pace closely.
