Superfecta Sunday where the Turf meets the Surf

 Del Mar opened up yesterday. Today we take in a great Stakes race at a mile over the Turf.

There is plenty of speed to create a strong pace. Speed numbers are very close. All of these horses have raced over the Del Mar surface. More than half the field raced in a graded stakes race last out. It should be a fine summer battle over the Turf.

#3 Almendares [GB] (Fresu / D'Amato) comes in with the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number and four solid workouts. This guy loves the Turf, distance, and course. #8 Conclude (Berrios / D'Amato) has hit the board in nine of his eleven starts at this distance. He has put in four supreme workouts in preparation. Look for him to be forwardly placed battling on the front-end. A son of Collected, he is 72% in the money from seven starts.

#4 First Peace (Smith / Glatt) should be forwardly placed. He holds the second highesdt (tie) last out speed number and three hearty workouts. This colt excels over the Turf, distance, and course. A son of Funtastic, he is 83% in the money from twelve starts.
