On this Superfecta Sunday we go to where "The Turf Meets the Surf" in Southern California to look in on the youngsters competing to break their maiden.
Del Mar Race 4 {1 mile~2 year-old~Maiden Special Weight}
A nicely bred group of nine will hit the dirt in this featured Maiden race. Most are just learning the game an have yet to establish a clear-cut running style. There doesn't appear to be any speed, though a couple could be sent as a result. Only two have raced more than once and the field includes one first time starter. It should be a great race to watch and wager. Our task is to kneed together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.
#7 Urlacher (Graham / Harty) could come off as the odds on favorite with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three robust workouts. He could show a little speed as he tackles this group. In his three starts he has hit the board every time. As a son of Discreet Cat he could bear down on this group midway through the stretch. He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.
$2 SHOW.
#6 Uninvited (Espinoza / Baffert) will pose a mighty challenge with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three strong peaking workouts. This lad has already covered this distance with an in the money performance. It is likely he will take up a tracking position close to the pace and launch into the stretch crashing the lead party.
#9 Sorryaboutnothing (Nakatani / O'Neill) should contend with the third highest last out speed number and two hearty workouts. He too could be tracking the pace ready to speed into the stretch without apologies.
#5 Police Escort (M. Garcia / Baffert) Set the doughnut aside this guy looks capable of joining this group in a tracking position. He holds a good last out speed number and has put in three arresting workouts. He should be a trooper among this rambunctious crew.
10 CENT Superfecta Box ($2.40)
#7 Urlacher + #6 Uninvited + #9 Sorryaboutnothing + #5 Police Escort.
