Stakes Saturday and only five weeks away from the first Saturday in May. Today we take in a Kentucky Derby prep on the synthetic.
Turfway Park Race 10 {The Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati Spiral~G3~1 1/8 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}
A fantastic and full field of twelve will hit the synth in this annual Derby prep. There is enough speed to present an honest pace. Speed numbers are very close with all but one stretching out to this distance. These lads are looking for further improvement in their young careers. It should be a dandy of a race.
#8 Kasseopia [GB] (A. Garcia / Motion) might have a slight being the only one to go this distance hitting the board as well. He holds the third highest (tie) last out speed number and four sensational peaking workouts. This son of Showcasing [GB] has the tactical speed to sit close to the leaders and then launch into the stretch. His experience over similar surface at Golden Gate and polytrack at Woodbine is enough to give him the nod.
$2 WIN / $3 PLACE / $4 SHOW.
#3 Jensen (Geroux / L. Jones) will challenge with the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and three superb workouts. He will be stretching and going from dirt to the Turfway synth. This son of Haynesfield should be forwardly placed ready top strike. He is 100% in the money from four career starts.
$2 PLACE / $2 SHOW.
#12 Azar (Franco / Pletcher) should contend sharing the third highest last out speed number and putting in three hearty workouts. He is another that will be testing the synthetic for the first time. A son of Scat Daddy, he should take up a nice tracking position.
$2 SHOW.
Other Wagering Interests
#11 Ralis (Nakatani / O'Neill) will be in the mix having faced mightier in the Rebel at Oaklawn Park. He holds a couple of decent last out speed numbers, a two race progression, and two solid workouts. A son of Square Eddie, he should handle the surface swimmingly. This guy should be forwardly placed ready for the hunt.
#10 Airoforce (Juarez / Casse) is coming out of the Risen Star at Fairgrounds where he failed to fire. He has put in two excellent peaking workouts. This lad is 80% in the money from five starts. A son of Colonel John, he should track the pace and position well for the stretch run.
