One bright spot in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic is that horse racing is still going strong for now. Today on our Furlong Friday we take a look at a swell Maiden claiming sprint down in NOLA.
Fair Grounds Race 3 {6 Furlongs~3 year-old~Maiden Claiming}
A good field of eight will go to the gate in this maiden race. There is some speed to keep the pace rolling. Two horses will be making their first start to add a little intrigue to this handicapping challenge. Speed numbers are fairly close for these still improving horses. It should be a great race down in NOLA.
#4 Johnny Casino (Sutherland / Margolis) might be able to notch the win in his third career start. He holds the fourth highest last out speed number at a route and one solid workout. He also faced tougher in his last. A son of Super Saver, he should be forwardly placed ready to strike.
$1 WIN / $2 PLACE / $3 SHOW.
#5 Magi (Murrill / E. Rodriguez) could be on the front end with the second highest last out speed number and one sound workout. This guy will be making his fifth start at this distance. A son of Biondetti, he is looking to improve after a fourth place finish last out.
#7 Dream Twister (Magnon / Toups) is coming in from Delta Downs where he last ran in a Maiden Special Weight race. He should improve in his fourth career race. A son of Algorithms, he will be tracking the pace looking to score.
#1 Mayberry Saloon (J. Dominguez / Duhon) is a first time starter that looks ready to compete well. He is owned by Dream Walkin' Farms which is the operation of outstanding country singer Toby Keith. His trainer has good numbers for Maiden Claiming sprints and first time starters. A son of Tizway, he should do well at first asking.
10 CENT Superfecta ($1.00)
#4 Johnny Casino / #5 Magi / #7 Dream Twister, #1 Mayberry Saloon / ALL.
Last Superfecta Sunday (3/15) Results
Gulfstream Park R10. Maiden Claiming. We completely mis-fired on our 10 CENT Superfecta Box play hitting only one of the four wagering interests needed to cash. Superfecta went 9-1-12-4.
Our Bronze Horseshoe runner, Championship Alley, finished 7th.
Bankroll takes a hit and dips to $202.52.
