Tampa Bay Downs Race 11 {Tampa Bay Derby~G3~1 1/16 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}
A talented field of twelve will go to the gate in search of Kentucky Derby points in this annual contest.
Past Performances used: Equibase.
There is plenty of speed in this race to set super fast fractions. All but three are nominated to the Triple Crown. Speed figs are fairly close making it competitive. Four will be stretching out to this distance while the rest have covered this distance. All seek to improve. Eight are coming out of the Sam F. Davis over this very track. It should be a fantastic race.
#4 Groveland (Centeno / Harty) should track the pace closely and swing into the stretch in great stride. He holds the highest speed number at this distance along with three superb peaking workouts over the Tampa Bay track. This son of Street Sense, is 100% in the money from five career starts.
$1 WIN / $2 PLACE / $3 SHOW.
#6 Tapit Trice (L. Saez / Pletcher) should go off as the odds-on favorite holding the highest last out speed number and three sharp workouts. He is another that should track the pace closely and spring into the stretch. This guy will attempt to make it three wins in a row. A son of Tapit, he is 100% in the money from three career starts.
$1 PLACE / $2 SHOW.
#3 Classic Legacy (I. Ortiz / Mott) will pose a mighty challenge with the third highest (tie) last out speed number and two efficient workouts. Yet another that will track the pace closely. A son of Into Mischief, he is 50% in the money from four career starts.
$2 SHOW.
#11 Zydeceaux (Marin / Minguet) is sitting on a good race as he will battle for controlling speed. He holds the fourth highest last out speed number and one strong workout. A son of Cajun Breeze, he is 83% in the money from six career starts.
$1 SHOW.
Other Wagering Interests
#12 Prairie Hawk (Camacho / S.A. Joseph) should improve after a disappointing last out. He has cobbled a couple of decent workouts in the last thirty days. Look for him to be part of the pace scenario. A son of Curlin, he holds a 50% win rate from four starts.
#10 Champions Dream (A Gallardo / M. Casse) will improve after a lackluster effort in his last. A smart workout will aid his cause. He has the tactical speed to stay the course as the fractions are set. A son of Justify, he is 60% in the money from five career starts.
