 On this Stakes Saturday we look at the Virginia Derby.

Colonial Downs Race 10 {Virgina Derby~G3~1 1/8 mile~TURF~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A reduced, but competitive field of nine will hit the Virginia grass in this annual event.

There is a plethora of speed in this race. Speed numbers among this group are relatively close. Four horses in this field have won at least two in a row and are geared for another victory. Only two have raced over the Colonial course. Another four have raced at this exact distance. It should be a very good race to wager and watch.

#7 Activist Investing [GB] (Lynch / C. Brown) will be seeking his third win in a row. He holds a nice three race speed fig progression and two solid workouts. This guy will track the pace and strike in the stretch. A strong win at this distance last out adds to his luster. A son of Kingman [GB], he is 75% in the money from four starts.

#2 Gigante (Torres / Asmussen) has the tactical speed to stay the course no matter what pace develops. He had a good win over the Colonial course last out and has secured two superb workouts. A son of Not This Time, he is 55% in the money from nine starts.

#11 Program Trading [GB] (Prat / C. Brown) is another entrant that has the tactical speed to stay the course. He holds the highest last out speed number and three hearty workouts. This lad will be seeking his fourth win in a row. A son of Lope de Vega [IRE], he has a 100%-win rate from three starts.

#4 Salute the Stars (Russell / B. Cox) holds the highest speed number at the distance and has put in four sound workouts. This guy will be following the pace closely. A son of Candy Ride [ARG], he is 80% in the money from five starts.
