Furlong Friday in Arkansas

Thank goodness it's Furlong Friday. Today we take a look at a nice six furlong battle on the dirt.

Oaklawn Park Race 8 {6 furlongs~4 year old Up~Optional Claiming}
A talented group of seven will go to the gate in this feature race. It is stacked with speed which should ensure a hot pace. All of these lads are close in terms of speed figures. it should be a dandy of a sprint.

#5 Captain Genius (Ocampo / Young) might have the edge with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two steady workouts. He shares the highest speed number at the distance and the second highest over the Oaklawn track.

Other Wagering Interests

#6 Santa Elf (Rocco / A. Dutrow) should challenge with the third highest last out speed number and two robust workouts. He is coming down from the Northeast track circuit into the warmth of Hot Springs. Should the pace boil over, this lad could come a runnin' in the clear with his tracking and closing capability.

#4 Visionary Ruler (Mello / Becker) could surprise with a decent last out speed number and one strong bullet workout. This guy shares the highest speed number at the distance. He should be forwardly placed ready to battle.

#1 Guns Loaded (Hamilton / Hartman) is coming off an extended layoff, but has scored a win at this distance. He has put in four superb peaking workouts that include three bullets. He is another that will take advantage of a hot pace with his tracking running style.

Maiden Turf begins Horse Racing Weekend

We go to the Turf to begin our horse racing weekend.  A little Southern California sun to spark set it off.

Santa Anita Park Race 5 {1 1/8 mile~TURF~4 year-old Up~fillies/mares~Maiden Special Weight}
A solid group of eight will take to the Turf in this maiden race. The race comes up a little light on speed, but the speed numbers are all relatively comparable. It should be a highly competitive affair.

#3 Egyptian Empire (Van Dyke / Dollase) might have a slight edge with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three strengthening workouts. She loves the Turf demonstrated by her 100% in the money record over it. This gal will be tracking the pace closely ready to strike.

#7 Loufoque (Espinoza / Mandella) should give chase with an o.k. last out speed number at this distance and four endurance producing workouts. She is another that enjoys the surface. This gal is coming off an extended layoff. Look for her to be closing swiftly.

#5 Purple Rose (Smith / Gallagher) is coming into this race with the fourth highest last out speed number and three superb workouts. She should be forwardly placed ready to roll. This gal should fire fresh off a brief layoff.

Back to Santa Anita for Superfecta Sunday

Superfecta Sunday rides up on us yet again. Today we look at an interesting down hill Turf contest at beautiful Santa Anita.

Santa Anita Park Race 8 {Wishing Well Stakes~6 1/2 furlongs~downhill TURF~4 year old Up~fillies/mares~Stakes}
A fabulous group of nine gals will go to the grass in this feature stakes race. There is enough speed to keep an honest pace. The speed numbers look remarkably close which gives any of these gals to regale in the winners circle. Our task is to knit together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#5 Fanticola (M. Garcia / D'Amato) may have the edge with the second highest (3-way tie) last out speed number at a mile route, a two race progression, and three superb workouts. This gal enjoys the distance and the course with a 100% in the money record for both. She is our Bronze Horseshoe runner.
$2 SHOW.

#9 Birdlover [GB] (Trujillo / O'Neill) should challenge despite coming off an one year layoff. Prior to the extended layoff she was working a five race progression and shared that second highest last out speed number. This gal has put in two solid workouts in preparation. As another lover of the course and the distance, she was last seen placing second in a similar downhill Turf event.

#3 Sky Treasure (Nakatani / Casse) should contend with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two fine workouts. This gal also holds the highest speed number at the distance. She should be tracking the pace readying for the stretch run.

#1 Indecise (Prat / Mandella) should be in the mix after a lengthy one year layoff. Prior to the layoff she also posted the second highest last out speed number.  She was working a two race progression and has put in the sincerest workout tab of four works that included a couple of bullets.

Stakes Saturday on the Turf

Today we take in a graded Turf race in Southern California.

Santa Anita Race 7 {San Marcos~G2~1 1/4 mile~4 year-old Up~Graded Stakes}
A stellar group of eight will take to the green in this feature race. The lone speed, Little Jerry, could have his way with the group if left loose on the lead. The speed numbers are fairly close which leaves an opening for one of these fellas who travels close to the leader. It should be a great and exciting race.

#2 Patrioticandproud (Van Dyke / Casse) could get the job done with the second highest last out speed number, a six race progression, and three dynamic workouts. This son of Proud Citizen should track the pace closely and strike in the stretch.
$2 WIN  /  $3 SHOW.

#4 Power Ped (Prat / Drysdale) should challenge with the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number and three robust workouts. This son of Powerscourt [GB] should be able to get the distance as he tries it for the first time. He should be part of the tracking crew and look for an opening to move forward.

#1 Finnegans Wake (Espinoza / Miller) could be the favorite with the highest last out speed number scoring his second victory in a row. He is working a six race progression and has put in three hearty workouts. Another son of Powerscourt [GB], he can be expected to close well.

#8 Dynamic Sky (Nakatani / Casse) should be in the hunt sharing the fourth highest last out speed number and putting in two solid workouts. This son of Sky Mesa will be part of the tracking bunch and could explode into the stretch. Of this group, he has earned the third highest speed number at the distance.

Furlong Friday at Fair Grounds

Thank goodness its Furlong Friday. We take a look at a fine Louisiana sprint.

Fair Grounds Race 5 {6 furlongs~4 year-old Up~LA~Claiming}
A decent group of seven will venture to the gate in this mid-card contest. Lots of speed will keep a contested pace. These lads speed figures come up very close to one another making for a terrific race.

#3 Malachite (Graham / Roussel) is coming off an extended layoff, but appears well prepped. He holds the second highest speed number at the distance. His last outing was good, giving him the third highest speed number. Prior to the layoff he was working a two race progression. This lad has put in two solid peaking workouts for the comeback.

#6 Aaron of Goshen (Rosier / Broberg) will challenge with the highest last out speed number and two robust workouts. This guy enjoys the Fair Grounds course and should be forwardly placed ready to roll.

#1 Warren's Rebel (A. Lezcano / A. Leggio) should contend with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two mighty fine workouts. He has the tactical speed to maintain contact with whatever pace develops.

#5 B and B's Pulpit (B. Hernandez / M. Scherer) should be in the mix with a couple of decent last out speed numbers. He is coming out of route race and has put in one hearty workout. This lad will take advantage of any pace boil over.

Gulfstream Maidens Kick off the Horse Racing Weekend

A nice maiden sprint starts our horse racing weekend.

Gulfstream Park Race 8 {6 furlongs~3 year old~Maiden Claiming}
A enterprising group of eight will go to the gate. It appears to be light on speed with only a couple that could be forwardly placed. There are a couple of first time starters in this one which should have an impact. Interesting race, nice wagering challenge.

#8 Mach My Day (Lopez / Plesa) might take the win at first asking. This first time starter is a son of Mach Ride. He has posted a couple of nice works prepping for this race. This lad has the connections that could make it happen.
$2 SHOW.

#4 Titotime (Contreras / Maltine) is coming down from Woodbine to challenge these lads. He holds the third highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two strong peaking workouts. He should be able to track the pace closely and then spring into action.

#7 Chiquitaca (Zayas / Sano) will be making second start seeking improvement. He has put in three quite robust workouts in preparation. His first effort was a dud, but he should move forward from that start.

#2 Wizards Clip (Gaffalione / Servis) is the other first time starter seeking to get an early maiden win. He is a son of Tiz Wonderful, so he should be in the mix. He has posted one peaking workout to get himself ready.

On this fine Superfecta Sunday where the snow is deep we take a look where there is warmth and most importantly, Turf.

A solid group of eight gals will journey on to the grass in this early, on the card, Turf race. There is a little bit of speed to dictate pace. These gals are all relatively close with their speed numbers. A number in here are coming out of graded stakes races in an attempt to gain a victory here. Our task is to wire together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#6 Hijra (Bejarano / Hollendorfer) appears to have the edge with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and four robust workouts. She should be forwardly placed ready to strike in the stretch. This gal is 100% in the money at the mile distance from three starts.

#5 Elektrum [IRE] (Smith / Sadler) will challenge coming over here from France where she was successful at the races earning a 60% in the money record from ten starts. She appears to enjoy both the surface and the distance compiling above 50% in the money records at both. She has put in three stellar workouts in preparation. This fine lady is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#7 Gender Agenda [GB] (Talamo / Gaines) should contend coming out of a grade two event. She holds the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two strong workouts. This girl will also be forwardly placed seeking to make her move.

#8 Black Bird Rock (Nakatani / Casse) seeks to battle willingly with the third highest last out speed number and five career victories on her resume. She should be tracking the pace ready to close strikingly in the stretch run. This gal also sports the fourth highest speed number at the distance.
