The Kentucky Derby trail begins in earnest on this Stakes Saturday down in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Fair Grounds Race 12 {LeComte~G3~1 mile 70 yards~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}
A spectacular field of twelve will go to the gate in this annual Derby prep. With Derby points on the line, these lads will be giving it their all. There is sufficient speed to carry a very fluid pace. Speed numbers are fairly close as each one of these young horses continue to improve. It should be a heck of a race down in always surprising NOLA.
#11 Tight Ten (Santana / Asmussen) might show his class with a couple of decent last out speed numbers and three superb workouts. He comes in fresh after a brief layoff. A son of Tapit, he is 75% in the money from four career starts. He could be part of the pace scenario.
$1 WIN / $2 PLACE / $3 SHOW.
#10 Chase the Ghost (Lanerie / Stewart) continues to improve with a couple of good last out speed numbers and two hearty workouts. This guy likes the Fair Grounds track producing a competitive speed fig over it. A son of Ghostzapper, he could benefit from a fast pace as he is likely to take up a tracking position.
$1 PLACE / $2 SHOW.
#7 Roiland (Graham / Amoss) should pose a challenge with the fourth highest last out speed number and three high quality workouts. He is another that will benefit from a sizzling pace as he tracks and closes. A son of Successful Appeal, he is 75% in the money from four career starts.
$1 SHOW.
#5 Night Ops (Morales / Desormeaux) could surprise with a nicely improving portfolio of races. He comes into this race out of a longer route and three superlative peaking workouts. A son of Warriors Reward, he will be closing efficiently.
