Stakes Saturday the Santa Anita Way

You gotta love the Turf. We take in a terrific race in Southern California.

Santa Anita Park Race 9 {Twilight Derby~G2~1 1/8 mile~TURF~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A fantastic field of nine will hit the Turf in this graded stakes race. It comes up a little short in speed, but there are a few in here that could be forwardly placed. Speed numbers are very close making it a contentious race. It should really be one of the better Turf races on the day.

#9 Profiteer (Smith / McGaughey) comes in from the East coast to challenge these Turfers. He holds a couple of very good last out speed numbers and two hearty workouts. Looking to stretch his win record to four, he should be tracking the pace closely. A son of War Front, he should be able to take another step forward.

#8 Channel Maker (Van Dyke / Mott) should pose a challenge as another shipper in, though he has run over the Santa Anita course. He holds the third highest last out speed number at a longer Turf route, a two race progression, and two hardy workouts. This son of English Channel has hit the board in his lone try at this distance. He could come closing gallantly.

#2 Cowboy Culture (Geroux / Cox) is another shipping in ready to show off his talent. He holds a couple of superb last out efforts and has put in four excellent works. He will be stretching out to this distance after winning two in a row at shorter. A son of Quality Road, he will be tracking the pace.

#5 Just Howard (Lynch / Motion) should be in the mix as he also ships in from the East. He holds the fourth highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and one solid workout. This lad is 100% in the money at this distance. Another son of English Channel, he could be forwardly placed.

Superfecta Sunday at Keeneland

We take in a competitive graded stakes Turf race down in Kentucky.

Keeneland Race 8 {Dowager Stakes~G3~1 1/2 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~Graded Stakes}

A good field of ten will hit the Kentucky green in this annual affair. There is decent speed to assure a fluid pace. Speed numbers are reasonably close. A few will be stretching out to this distance for the first time. Our task is to link together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket. It should be a fantastic race.

#10 Grateful (Franco / Pletcher) might have the edge with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three sturdy workouts. This gal has already won at this distance and has traveled over the Keeneland course well. She is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#7 Apple Betty [IRE] (J. Velazquez / McGaughey) will challenge with the third highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and four strong workouts. She holds the second highest speed number at this distance and is 50% in the money from four tries at the same. She should be part of the speed scenario.

#2 Lottie (J. Ortiz / Motion) will contend with the fourth highest last out speed number and three hearty workouts. She holds the highest speed number at the distance hitting the board at same in her only two attempts. This gal should track and close solidly.

#6 Promotional (Lanerie / Proctor) should also contend with a couple of very good last out speed numbers and three superb workouts. She holds the third highest speed number at the distance. She should track the pace ready to roll into the stretch.

Laurel Park R10.  Maryland Millions Classic Stakes.  Our first pick, Bonus Points, won (1st) for win money of $4.20, place money of $4.60, and show money of $5.40.  Our second pick, John Jones, finished 7th.  Our third pick, Ghost Bay, finished 3rd for show money of $2.30.
Superfecta went 5-12-11-9.

Stakes Saturday in Maryland

A state for Horse Lovers, Maryland, is where we look in on a tremendous Stakes race.

Laurel Park Race 10 {Maryland Million Classic Stakes~1 1/8 mile~3 year-old Up~Stakes}

A solid field of eleven talented horses will go to the gate in this annual event. There is enough speed to maintain a strong pace. Speed numbers are close. Only six in this field have traversed this distance making for an interesting competition. It should be a very exciting race.

#5 Bonus Points (Juarez / Pletcher) might have the edge coming out of a challenging graded stakes race. He holds the highest last out speed number, a six race progression, and three sincere workouts. This lad will be tracking the pace ready to do battle in the stretch. A son of Majestic Warrior, he has experience at the distance and over the track.

#2 John Jones (Toledo / Gaudet) will challenge with the third highest (tie) last out speed number and three superb peaking workouts. This guy loves the distance and the track. He has a field high eight wins. A son of Smarty Jones, he should be part of the front end crew.

#11 Ghost Bay (Karamanos / Bailes) should contend with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three stellar peaking races. He comes out a turf race at this distance and is ready to compete courageously. A son of Ghostzapper, he has hit the board 59% of the time.

Superfecta Sunday, O Canada

On this Superfecta Sunday we look toward the great North for some excellent Turf action.

Woodbine Race 10 {Pattison Canadian International~G1~1 1/2 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~Graded Stakes}

A highly talented field of ten will hit the Canadian green in this annual event. There is sufficient speed to keep the pace going. Speed numbers/ratings are comparatively close which should produce an extremely competitive race. Our task is to link together a winning 20 CENT Superfecta box ticket.


#10 Chemical Charge [IRE] (Murphy / Beckett) comes in from across the pond to battle on the Canadian Turf. He has won his last two over in Great Britain producing a three race progression. He is a very consistent sort who is 92% in the money from thirteen career starts. This son of Sea the Stars [IRE] should be close to the pace ready to break away in the stretch. He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#4 Idaho [IRE] (Moore / A. O'Brien) comes in from France where he ran in the "Arc" at Chantilly in unremarkable fashion. This lad has, arguably, some of the best connections in the World. He is a millionaire that has run over the Woodbine course. Holding the highest last out rating, he should travel close to the pace. A son of Galileo [IRE], good improvement should be shown.

#2 Flamboyant [FR] (Rosario / Gallagher) is coming in from sunny California with the second highest speed number, a four race progression, and three stamina producing workouts. This son of Peer Gynt [JPN] has the highest speed number over the surface and will be tracking the pace ready to charge into the stretch.

#9 Erupt [IRE] (Alvarado / Motion) is another millionaire that should contend from a tracking position. He is the defending champ of this race and appears to be coming into form with four superb workouts. A son of Dubawi [IRE], he'll manage the distance well.

A Turfy Stakes Saturday

We look down Kentucky way for an enjoyable Turf battle for the girls.

A smashing field of ten will hit the Keeneland green in this annual event. It comes up light on speed, so strategy will be key as the gate opens. Speed numbers are all very close making it any one of these gals race. It should be the most exciting race of the day.

#2 Proctor's Ledge (Lanerie / B. Walsh) could make it three wins in a row. She holds the highest last out speed number, a five race progression, and three strong workouts. This gal loves the Turf, the distance and the Keeneland course. A daughter of Ghostzapper, she should track the pace closely and explode into the stretch.

Superfecta Sunday in Florida

On this Superfecta Sunday we take on a small claiming race on the other coast.

Gulfstream Park West {7 Furlongs~3 year-old Up~Claiming}

A short field of seven will head to the gate in this lower level claiming race. There is some speed. Speed numbers are very close. All of these guys are heading over from Gulf Stream Park to frolic over the former Calder race track. It should be a good event. Our task is to attempt to string together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#6 Quenane (Gaffalione / Levy) might have the edge with the second highest last out speed number. Actually, he has a couple of decent last out speed numbers in which he hit the board in both races. This lad has the best overall in the money performance at 69% from thirteen starts. He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.
$2 SHOW.

#2 Lil's Fast Boy (Samiento / O. Gonzalez) should challenge as he stretches out to this distance. He holds the second highest (tie) speed number over the surface and has put in two strong workouts. This guy should be forwardly placed with an opportunity to wire the field.

#3 Gadsby Tavern (S. Saez / A. Rodriguez) will contend with the highest last out speed number and a two race progression. He also shows the highest speed number over the dirt. Expect him to track closely and sprout into the stretch.

#5 Eye of the Lion (Rios / Cantanese) could surprise with a couple of even efforts last out and one solid workout. He does have the second highest speed number at the distance. Watch him track and close aggressively.

Furlong Friday in Southern Cali

Thank goodness it is Furlong Friday. We take in a nice sprint in Southern California.

Santa Anita Park {6 Furlongs~3 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~CA~Allowance}

A good field of ten ladies will go to the gate in this Cal-Bred feature. There is plenty of speed to keep the pace rolling. Speed numbers are very close making for a highly competitive event. It should be a fine race for out Furlong Friday.

#7 Divine Spark (Van Dyke / Baffert) looks primed to improve with a couple of decent last out speed numbers, a two race progression, and three serious workouts. This gal should sit right off the pace and launch into the stretch. She likes the surface, distance, and track.
