For our Stakes Saturday we take a look at what can be considered a nice Derby prep race at Golden Gate Fields.
Golden Gate Fields Race 8 {El Camino Real-G3~1 1/8 mile~3 year old~Stakes}
An exceptionally good field of ten will make the start in this annual. Plenty of speed may help the closers make their attack in the closing furlong of the race.
#4 Russian Greek (Gryder / Hollendorfer) looks ready for a big improvement with the fourth highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and four robust, peaking workouts. He should be one of the closers to take advantage of the pace.
$2 SHOW.
#6 Lucky Chappy [IRE] (A. Garcia / Motion) will pose a serious challenge with the third highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and one stout workout. He should be comfortable moving from TURF to the Tapeta surface utilizing his closing run.
$2 SHOW.
#10 Lady of Fifty (R. Baze / Hollendorfer) will be the lone filly in the field and a fast one at that. She should be able to scoot out to the lead with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three superb workouts. She could hold on for a major piece under the legendary riding skills of jockey, Russell Baze.
$2 SHOW.
Another Wagering Interest
#7 Handsome Mike (Nakatani / O'Neill) should be in the mix with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two stamina producing workouts. It would not be a surprise if he hits the wire first with a nice just off the pace run.
