Santa Anita Downhill TURF-day

The horse racing weekend begins with some TURF stars going downhill at Santa Anita.

A very nice field of nine will make the start in this downhill TURF dash.   A couple of speedy types and the balance of the talented field coming from off the pace should make this one a nail biter.

#1 Carbonite (Espinoza / Sadler) looks very strong with the highest last out speed number and three superb workouts.  His last was a win over this downhill course.  He has the edge coming from off the pace.

#4 Al Instante [CHI] (Krigger / Nettles) will pose a challenge with the second highest speed number at this distance and three mighty, peaking workouts.  This guy also has three wins over four starts at this distance.  He could close nicely into this field.

Other Wagering Interests

#5 Leroy's Dynameaux (Bejarano / Glatt) poses a threat with the second highest last out speed number at a route distance and two decent workouts.  He should be able to close well.

#8 Thomas Baines (Smith / Diodoro) will be coming back to the racing game after a little more than a year off.  He looks ready to compete well with four fantastic workouts.  This guy should present a furious closing kick.
