 We go into New Mexico for a great little Kentucky Derby prep with Derby points on the line.

Sunland Park Race 9 {Sunland Derby~G3~1 1/16 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A good group of eight will go to the gate in this annual Derby prep race.

There will be speed in this race, plenty of it. It should produce a sizzling pace. Two invaders from Southern California and one from Oaklawn look for Derby points here. Speed numbers are very close among the main characters in the race. All have good potential to improve. Only two have run this distance. It should be a very nice race to wager and watch.

#5 Stronghold (fresu / D'Amato) should be forwardly placed and battle in the stretch for the win. He holds the highest last out speed number and four powerful workouts. He has gone this distance and will try the Sunland Park track for the first time. A Southern California invader that should take another step forward. A son of Ghostzapper, he is 100% in the money from four starts.

#3 Curlin's Kaos (Herrera / Garcia) comes off a winning run on the Turf in Southern Cali. Two super strong works add to his potential. This lad should track the pace closely. He will stretch out to this distance. A son of Clubhouse Ride, he is also 100% in the money from three starts.

#8 Informed Patriot (Rosario / Asmussen) comes in from Oaklawn with the third highest last out speed number and three solid peaking workouts. He is another that should track the pace closely. This guy has hit the board twice at this distance and will try the Sunland Park track for the first time. A son of Hard Spun, he is 57% in the money from seven starts.

#4 Lucky Jeremy (Ramos / Morey) seeks his third win in a row with the second highest last out speed number and two sound workouts. He will stretch out in his second race over the Sunland Park track. Look for him to be part of the speed factor. A son of Lookin at Lucky, he has a 66% win rate from three starts.

#6 Alotaluck (Caballos / Garrett) should improve in his third career start. He scored the fourth highest last out speed number and has two decent workouts. This gelding should be forwardly placed ready to strike. A son of Sir Prancealot [IRE], he is 100% in the money.

#2 Surroundedbyangels (Medellin / Hone) should be another speed factor in the race. Having doubled up his speed fig in his two career starts, he should be sitting on a big effort. He has hit the board in those two starts. A son of Smiling Tiger, he has a couple of solid works.
