Stakes Saturday Turf

On this wonderful Stakes Saturday we take in a vibrant TURF contest at bountiful Belmont.

A fabulous field of eleven fillies will saunter onto the grass for this annual affair.  There is ferocious speed on the inside with a few forwardly placed types sprinkled through the rest of the field.  It could be a hot pace benefitting those that like to come from off the pace.  The race should be a thrilling one.

#10 Watsdachances [IRE] (Castellano / C. Brown) looks ready to rumble with the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number, a four race progression, and one solid workout.  She should be able to track and close swiftly.  This gal holds an 89% in the money record over the turf.  She also enjoys the Belmont green.

#2 Discreet Marq (Gomez / Clement) will challenge from the front end with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and one robust workout.  She holds the second highest speed number at the distance and has notched a win at same.  This gal is another that loves the Belmont turf.

#11 Caroline Thomas (Bravo / Tagg) could surprise with a tremendous kick in the closing stretch.  She shares the fourth highest last out speed number, is working a two race progression, and has put in four serious workouts.  She favors the Belmont grass.

#1 Emollient (Smith / Mott) will figure prominently in this race with the third highest last out speed number at a longer turf route, a two race progression, and four superlative workouts.  She could dispatch this field with her versatile running style from the inside post.

#4 Alterite [FR] (J. Velazquez / C. Brown) is the interesting contestant in this field with a strong career in France.  She is making her first North American start after an average layoff.  Her last race was a longer Group One in France and she has put in four terrific workouts prepping for this race.  Worth a look based upon an outstanding jockey / trainer combination alone.
