Furlong Friday in Hot Springs, Arkansas

 While we love the Fair Grounds meet. Early morning rain may wash races off the Turf and the small field sizes will make us look elsewhere for Furlong Friday rewards. We look in on a swell Maiden Special Weight race in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Oaklawn Park Race 8 {6 Furlongs~3 year-old~Fillies~Maiden Special Weight}

A full field of twelve will go to the gate in this competitive Maiden Special Weight race.

Past Performances used:  Equibase.

This is a relatively experienced field with only one horse having run six races. Speed numbers are fairly close. It does come up light on speed as there are only three that like to sit in behind the speed. It should be a fine race to kick off our horse racing weekend.

#1 When I Look At You (Leparoux / McPeek) is the deserved favorite with the third highest last out speed number at a route and two sound workouts. This gal loves the dirt and the distance. She should be close to the pace. A daughter of Collected, she is 50% in the money from two starts.

$2 WIN  /  $3 PLACE  /  $5 SHOW.

#5 Bent Halo (H. Hernandez / Witt) will be making her second start after hitting the board in her first. She should be tracking and pounce. A daughter of Goldencents, she is 100% in the money from one start.

#4 Happy N Smiling (Santana / J.A. Ortiz) will be making her third start with the second highest last out speed number. She should be tracking the pacesetters. A daughter of Runhappy, she will attempt to hit the board.

#2 Wise Miss (E. Gallardo / M. Robertson) will make her second start with the fourth highest last out speed number and one strong workout. She should join the tracker crew. A daughter of Golden Lad, she is 100% in the money from one start.

Other Wagering Interests

#12 No Pay No Hay (Zimmerman / Puhl) is the second most experienced of the group. She is another that should track the pace closely. A daughter of Audible, she is 50% in the money from four starts. She'll need to hit the board to get her hay.

Closing Out at Oaklawn

 It is the last day of the season at Oaklawn. We look at the last race which is a fabulous marathon distance with a full field. Happy Superfecta Sunday!

Oaklawn Race 10 {1 3/4 mile~3 year-old Up~Starter Allowance}

A handsome field of fourteen geldings will go to the gate to run in this marathon distance.

Past Performances used: Equibase.

This large field comes up very light on speed. Expect a Euro-quickening as they come into the stretch. Only two have gone this distance. Another three have raced close to it, but the balance of the field will try this long distance for the first time. Pedigrees on all of these fellas suggest they should make the run in good order. Speed numbers look very close coming into this longer race as all will be stretching out from their previous race. It should be a very interesting race and intriguing handicapping challenge.

#4 Original Intent (M. Garcia / Combs) is the distance specialist at these longer routes. In his only run at this distance he scored a victory. He comes in with a couple of decent last out speed numbers an two superb peaking workouts. He will be among the large pack of trackers in this field. A son of Creative Cause, he has nine wins from forty-three career starts.

$2 WIN  /  $3 PLACE  /  $5 SHOW.

#6 Indian Gulch (Arrieta / Van Berg) is proven at an even longer distance with a win at a two-mile distance. He comes in with the highest last out speed number. He should track and close on the whichever horses set the pace. A son of Liaison, he is 54% in the money from forty-six career starts.

#8 Venture Forth (E. Gonzalez / Villafranco) holds a win at the mile and half distance. He comes in with the fourth highest last out speed number and one bullet workout. Again, another tracker expecting to quicken coming into the stretch. A son of Candy Ride [ARG], he is 72% in the money from twenty-two career starts.

#9 Blueridge Mountain (G. Saez / Sharp) will stretch out to this distance on a three win streak (though the last one he was DQ'd to fifth). He holds the third highest (tie) last out speed number and two sound workouts. You guessed correctly that he will be tracking the pace. A son of Tapizar, he is 56% in the money from twenty-five career starts.

Other Wagering Interests

#5 Hardly a Secret (R. Diaz / Broberg) Another son of Creative Cause, he is 59% in the money from fifty-six career starts. Three excellent works show him the way tracking the pace.

#10 Coal Truth (K. Jordan / Petalino) Son of Mineshaft, will love this distance coming in with a nice strong workout. Stretching out with the tracker pack.

10 CENT Superfecta Box ($2.40)

#4 Original Intent  +  #6 Indian Gulch  +  #8 Venture Forth  +  #9 Blueridge Mountain.

10 CENT Superfecta Straight ($4.00)

Superfecta Sunday in Hot Springs

We take a look at nice Arkansas route early on the card for our Superfecta Sunday.

Oaklawn Park Race 3 {1 mile~3 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~Waiver Claiming}

This is a unique bunch of eight that will go to the gate. It is a race that is lacking in speed. The question then becomes who will be sent or pick up the pace by default? Speed numbers are fairly close which should make for a competitive event. Only two in this one have raced over the Arkansas dirt. All of this makes this one a very intriguing race. Our task is to string together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#4 Freedom March [GB] (Santana / Gorder) might have the edge with the second highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and one peaking bullet workout. This lass should track the pace closely and launch into the stretch. She shares the second highest speed number at the distance couple with a 75% in the money record from four efforts at same. She is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.
$2 SHOW.

#1 Ol Sanish (Vazquez / Villafranco) could go off at the favorite with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and one stout workout. She is the most experienced of the group and loves the Oaklawn track holding a 75% in the money record over it. This gal is another tracker that cruise nicely in a ground saving trip.

#7 Por Favor (E. Perez / Puhl) should challenge with the highest speed number at the distance coupled with a good 66% in the money record at same. She is another that should be part of the tracking crew. With ample rest she comes forward to the race with three hearty workouts.

#5 Cleverness (Birzer / Chelborad) should contend coming off an extended layoff. She holds the second highest overall speed number. This gal will get a nice change of scenery coming up from the Florida circuit. He workout tab of three excellent peaking works is an indication that she is ready.

Superfecta Sunday in Hot Springs

On this Superfecta Sunday after a grand Stakes Saturday, we take a look at a nice six furlong stakes race in Arkansas.

Oaklawn Park Race 8 {Carousel Stakes~6 furlongs~4 year old Up~fillies/mares~Stakes}
A short field of seven will take to the dirt in this afternoon feature.  There is wholesome speed which should keep the pace earnest.  All but a couple are coming into this one fresh off a thirty day layoff.  All have a chance to saunter into the winners circle.  Our task is to shape a winning 10 CENT Superfecta ticket.

#3 Speedinthruthecity (Quinonez / Asmussen) could have the edge as she has a tracking running style which should suit her well in this field.  She holds the second highest last out speed number, a five race progression, and two solid, peaking workouts.

#2 Ms Anna Destiny (Castanon / Cox) should challenge sitting a bit off the pace with a couple of good last out speed numbers and two athletic workouts.  She holds the second highest (tie) speed number at the distance.  This gal is our Bronze Horseshoe runner for this Sunday.
$2 SHOW.

#6 Aireofdistinction (Santana / Asmussen) could be one of the pacesetters as she tries for her fifth win in a row.  This girl holds the highest last out speed number, a five race progression, and four superb peaking workouts.  If she can control the speed, she will win.

Best of the rest

#7 Itsallinthefamily (Tohill / Hartman) will embark on her third win in a row.  She is 100% in the money at this distance and at Oaklawn.  She could surprise.

#4 Livi Makenzie (Mello / Moquett) holds the highest speed number at the distance and has put in three hearty peaking workouts.  This gal could be dangerous.

#1 Jury Wise (Canchari / Hellman) might surprise with an all out effort.  She has a versatile running style which will aide her in this battle.  It is worthy of note that the trainer stat of 67% stakes win is remarkable.

#5 Malibu Holiday (Arroyo / Heffner) cannot be counted out with the third highest speed number at the distance and one diligent workout.  If the pace heats up she has the ability to come from off the pace with a enthusiastic charge.
