Let's Go Long on the TURF, Up North

 We go up North (virtually, of course) to take in a long TURF race of the Stakes variety.

Woodbine Race 8 {Niagara Stakes~1 1/4 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~Stakes}

A very nice field of eleven will hit the grass in this annual event. 

Past Performances used:  DRF Classic.

There is plenty of speed to roll out a sweet pace. Hall of Fame trainer, Mark Casse has four in this field. There is one filly as well as one Millionaire. Speed figs are fairly close making this one competitive. All have been expertly prepped for this race with the potential for some surprises. It should be a great race on one of the best Turf courses in the world!

#6 British Royalty (P. Husbands / Minshall) comes in tied with the highest last out speed number at a longer route and two superb workouts. He loves the surface and the course. This gelding should race close to the pace. A son of English Channel, he is 38% in the money from thirteen career starts.

#4 Cibolian (D. Carroll / Brisset) holds the fourth highest last out speed number at a much longer route and four strong workouts. This lad can be expected to be part of the tracker pack.  We look in on the beautiful Northwest for some Stakes action.

Emerald Downs Race 8 {Governor's Stakes~6 1/2 Furlongs~Stakes}

A talented field of nine will go to the gate in this contest.

This field has a good amount of speed to get it going. Speed numbers are very close making it a seriously competitive race. All, but one have covered the Emerald track several times. It should be a swift and furious race.

Turf Action Up North

 We look up North for a little Turf action on this Stakes Saturday.

Woodbine Race 8 {Connaught Cup~G2~7 furlongs~TURF~3 year-old Up~Graded Stakes}

A reduced field of ten will hit the grass in this annual event. 

Past Performances used:  Equibase.

There is enough speed in this one to make it a fast one. Speed numbers are very close making it exceptionally competitive. All but two have covered the Woodbine course. Every last one of these are well prepped for the race. It should be one of the better Turf contests on this Stakes Saturday.

#14 Shirl's Speight (Wilson / Attfield) is the deserved favorite with the second highest last out speed number and two solid workouts. Expect him to track the pace very closely getting first jump on the leaders. He has a win at this distance in one effort. A son of Speightstown, he is 63% in the money from eleven career starts.

Minnesota Turf for Stakes Saturday

 On this Stakes Saturday we look in on an early evening Stakes race on the Turf in cool Minnesota.

Canterbury Park Race 7 {The Ralph Strangis Stakes~7 1/2 Furlongs~TURF~3 year-old Up~colts/geldings~Stakes}

A nice field of nine will go to the Minnesota Turf in this competitive Stakes race.

Past Performances used:  DRF Classic.

This race comes up a little light on speed, but there are three that could keep it going. Speed numbers are fairly close. Two will be making the switch from dirt to Turf. All have good in the money records. It should be a quality Turf race.

#8 Hot Shot Kid (Eikleberry / M. Robertson) appears ready to pop a good one with a high velocity workout tab of four speedy works. He should track the pace and launch into the stretch. A son of Majestic Warrior, he is 56% in the money from forty-four career starts.

Long, On the Turf at Belmont for Stakes Saturday

 A very nice card for the penultimate day of the Belmont Spring meet. On this Stakes Saturday we look at a Grade one, long Turf race.

Belmont Park Race 9 {Caesars Belmont Derby Invitational~Grade 1~1 1/4 mile~TURF~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A wonderful field of twelve will go onto the Belmont grass.

There is some speed in this race though it should produce a decent pace. Only one millionaire joins this field. All look well prepped for this million dollar race. Only five have gone this distance. It should be a very excellent wagering race. The race could also be the best one of the day.

#13 Stone Age [IRE] (R. Moore / A. O'Brien) comes in from across the pond with a 100% in the money record at this distance from three starts. He cuts back in distance from his last. A son of Galileo [IRE], he is 75% in the money from eight career starts.

Stakes Saturday in Louisville

 As the Churchill and Belmont meets wind down this weekend, we look in on a former Arlington Park Stakes race down in the "Ville".

Churchill Downs Race 7 {American Derby Stakes~1 1/16 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A reduced field of eight will go to the gate in this former Turf stakes at old Arlington Park.

This is a highly competitive race as all of these fellas have posted speed figs extremely close to one another. There is a modicum of speed that should bring forth a simple pace. On an outstanding Churchill card this race should stand out as one of the best.

#7 Red Run (Gaffalione / Asmussen) should take another step forward coming off a longer route where he earned the fourth highest last out speed number and two quality peaking workouts. This guy will close into the pace swiftly hoping to get the win. A son of Gun Runner, he is 33% in the money from nine career starts.

#5 McLaren Vale (L. Saez / Brisset) should be part of the pace unit on the front end. He holds the second highest (3-way tie) last out speed number and two solid workouts.
