Furlong Friday at Oaklawn Park

On the eve of some great Derby preps we take a look at a nice sprint over the Arkansas dirt.

Oaklawn Park Race 4 {6 furlongs~3 year old Up~fillies/mares~Caliming}
A good crop of ten ladies will hit the dirt in this claiming event. There is enough speed to keep the pace honest. Speed figs look relatively comparable. It could come down to which gal gets the best trip as all have been lightly raced this year and have been prepped virtually the same. It should be a highly competitive sprint.

#5 Re Elected (Loveberry / Caldwell) could have the edge with the highest last out speed number and one dynamite workout. This gal loves the dirt and the Oaklawn track. She should track the pace closely and swoop into the stretch. This gal does have the highest speed number at the distance and a sound 50% in the money record at same.
$2 SHOW.

Horse Racing Weekend begins at Santa Anita

A big weekend of horse racing gets an early start with a tremendous Turf contest in Southern California. This Stakes Saturday includes big Derby preps, The Wood Memorial at Aqueduct, the Bluegrass at Keeneland, and the Santa Anita Derby at, of course, Santa Anita.

Santa Anita Race 6 {1 1/4 mile~TURF~4 year old Up~Optional Claiming}
A fine group of eight runners will hit the green in this long Turf route. There is very little speed which may aid the forwardly placed. The speed numbers are relatively close making this a very competitive event. Let's go for the win to begin our Horse Racing Weekend.

#8 Unusual Fleet (Blanc / Baltas) might have the edge motoring on the front end. he holds the third highest speed number coming out of a sprint, is working a four race progression, and has put in two high quality, peaking workouts. He could run a comfortable pace and have plenty in the tank to cruise into victory.
$2 WIN  /  $3 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#2 Little Curlin (Bejarano / Hollendorfer) should pose a mighty challenge with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and five incredibly good workouts. This lad could be favorite as he sits right off the pace waiting to rush into the stretch.
