Sweet Mile on a Superfecta Sunday

Staying on at gorgeous Santa Anita for a sweet mile race.

Santa Anita Park Race 5 {1 mile~3 year-old Up~Allowance Optional Claiming}

A salty group of eight will go to the gate in this mile route. There is enough speed to keep an honest pace. Speed numbers are fairly close which should produce a contentious race. All of these lads have had powerful workouts in preparation for this race. Our task is to knit together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.  It should be a fine race.

#2 I Don't Care Who (Espinoza / Sadler) could have the edge with the second highest last out speed number at a longer route, a five race progression, and three superb workouts. This lad has the tactical speed to stay the course. He is our bronze Horseshoe selection.

#8 Iron Fist (Smith / Hollendorfer) will challenge as the prohibitive favorite. He holds the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and four seriously sound workouts. He should sit right off the pace ready to pounce on the leaders.

#3 Grazen Sky (Bejarano / Miyadi) will contend with the fourth highest last out speed number at a longer route, a two race progression, and four robust workouts. This lad could be forwardly placed ready to strike.

#7 Tried and True (Pedroza / Harty) should be in the hunt with the third highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three hearty workouts. Like many in this race, he enjoys the Santa Anita track. Look for him to be tracking and positioning for a quality effort.

Santa Anita Stakes Saturday

We roll into Stakes Saturday looking at an impressive grade one at a classic distance.

Santa Anita Park Race 9 {Gold Cup~G1~1 1/4 mile~3 year-old Up~Graded Stakes}

A talented group of eleven will venture onto the Santa Anita dirt in this annual affair brought over from the dearly departed Hollywood Park.  There is plenty of pace to drive frantic fractions. It could set up nicely for the lads coming from off the pace. Speed numbers are fairly close which should make for a contentious battle. It should be a great race.

#9 Catch A Flight [ARG] (Stevens / Mandella) has the edge with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three fierce workouts. He holds the second highest speed number at the distance with two in the money performances. This son of Giant's Causeway should track the pace, ready to rumble through the stretch.

#6 Hoppertunity (M. Garcia / Baffert) should challenge with a couple of very good last out speed numbers, a two race progression, and three superb peaking workouts. He loves the Santa Anita course and holds the third highest speed number over dirt. This son of Any Given Saturday should be racing close to the frontend ready for an opening. He will be stretching out to this distance for the first time.

Sprinting in Iowa for Furlong Friday

Off to the Iowa Prairie for Furlong Friday.

Prairie Meadows R6 {Iowa Sprint Handicap~6 furlongs~3 year-old Up~Stakes}

A short field of six will enter the gate in this annual sprint championship. There is plenty of speedsters to insure a sizzling pace. Speed numbers are relatively close with two horses showing triple digit marks. It should be a terrific race.

#1 Bobcat Jim (Laviolette / Smith) could have the edge with the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and two hearty workouts. This lad posted that speed number over the Prairie Meadows track maintaining his 100% in the money record over it. He will be seeking his third win in a row utilizing his versatile running style.

#6 Delaunay (Vazquez / Amoss) should challenge with the highest speed number at the distance, the second highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and three tidy workouts. Horse Racing Weekend Begins with a Mile

We roll into our Horse Racing weekend on the Turf.

Belmont Park Race 7 {1 mile~3 year-old Up~NY~Optional Claiming}

A solid group of eight will go to the gate in this New York bred race. There is enough speed to maintain an honest pace. The speed numbers are fairly close which should make for a competitive race. Quality riders and trainers for all the entrants should make the race quite interesting.

#8 Towering Moon (Castellano / Rodriguez) might have the edge with the third highest (tie) last out speed number and three strong workouts. This lad is the only one among the group that is 100% in the money over the Belmont Track. He should track and close well into a legitimate pace.

#2 Goodtolook (L. Saez / McLaughlin) should pose a mighty challenge with the highest last out speed number at a longer route and one robust workout. This lad has the speed to wire the field and it let loose on the lead he will be good to gone. He holds the highest speed number at the distance.

Superfecta Sunday in Sunny Southern Cal

Superfecta Sunday already?!  Today we take a look at a classic Turf race in warm and sunny Southern California.

Santa Anita Race 3 {1 1/4 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~Optional Claiming}
 
A fine field of seven will go to the grass in this classic Turf offering. It comes up light on speed which may produce a wicked quickening going into the stretch.  The speed numbers are very close making this one a very competitive event. Our task is to cobble together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta Box ticket. Let's give it a spin.

#1 Alcott [NZ] (Fallon / Powell) comes from overseas for his first North American debut. He last raced in China with sound success. This lad is coming into this one off an extended layoff with four strong workouts. He appears to have acclimated well to sunny Southern California. He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#7 Crucero (Desormeaux / Desormeaux) should challenge with the second highest speed number at the distance, a couple of good last out speed numbers and two solid workouts. This guy loves the Santa Anita Turf and should be tracking the pace well.

#5 Wanstead Gardens (Stevens / French) should go off as the favorite with the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and five tremendous peaking workouts. This Ontario bred will be tracking the pace and close gallantly.

#4 Son of War (Blanc / McAnally) is coming into sound form with the second highest last out speed number and three superb peaking workouts. This guy also shares the highest speed number over the Santa Anita turf. He is another that will be tracking the pace.

Stakes Saturday in Ohio

It is Stakes Saturday and we take a look at the Ohio Derby.

Thistledown Race 8 {Ohio Derby~G3~1 1/16 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A great group of nine will take to the dirt in this graded stakes feature. There is enough speed to keep the pace rolling. These fellas have fairly close speed numbers. Most are coming out of graded stakes races including the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness. It should be quite a battle for the victory.

#4 Divining Rod (Leparoux / Delacour) might have the edge with the second highest last out speed number and three strong peaking workouts. This son of Tapit should be forwardly placed ready to take these talented guys on. He is 100% in the money from six career starts.

Furlong Friday on the Grass

Thank goodness it's Furlong Friday. Today we take in a Turf sprint on one of the great North American Turf courses.

A nice group of eight will trot onto the grass for the start of this mid-card feature. There is plenty of speed to keep a tight pace. Speed numbers are fairly close with a couple going on the Turf for the first time. It should be a good race.

#5 Im Moneyinthebank (Sanjur / Young) looks like she may take another step forward with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and one peaking workout. She should sit right off the pace ready to motor swiftly through the stretch. She loves the Arlington Turf and is 100% in the money at the distance from three starts.

On To Santa Anita for the Start of Horse Racing Weekend

Thursday is the start of our horse racing weekend. We take a look at nice Maiden Claiming Route at beautiful Santa Anita.

Santa Anita Race 2 {1 1/16 mile~3 year-old Up~Maiden Claiming}

A good group of eight will go to the gate in this early race on the Santa Anita card. There is sufficient speed to keep the pace honest. Speed numbers are all comparable. Most in here have not yet gone this distance so will be seeking to improve on the stretch out. It should be a terrific race.

#7 Aaron Again (Nakatani / Cerrin) might have the edge with the second highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two superb workouts. This lad appears to be coming nicely into form and should be right up on the pace ready to roll.

#1 Woody's Folly (M. Pedroza / Spawr) will challenge with the highest last out speed number albeit over the synthetic surface at Golden Gate. He is working a two race progression and has put in two sound workouts. He could be forwardly placed ready to rally.

Superfecta Sunday, already ?!  We take a look at a real spectacular Turf mile at lovely Belmont.

A great group of eight will hit the green in this feature stakes race.  There are enough speedy types in here to possibly set it up for a gal coming off the pace. The speed numbers are very close which could make it any fillies race. A couple in here will be trying Turf for the first time, but appear ready to enjoy the surface.  Our task is to weave together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#3 Stormy Regatta (Franco / Clement) should be able to take another step forward with the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number, a three race progression, and three resolute workouts. She has already scored two victories at this distance. This gal should track and close vibrantly. She is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#5 Celestine (Maragh / Mott) may go off as the favorite seeking her fourth victory in a row. She holds the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and two robust workouts. Stakes Saturday Up North

On this Stakes Saturday we take a look at a fantastic stakes race up North in Canada.

A highly competitive group of eight will go to the gate in this feature stakes race. Lack of speed could lead to a quickening rush heading into the straight. Speed numbers for these gals are fairly close which should make all the more competitive. A really good race should unfold.

Thank goodness it's Furlong Friday.  Today we take a look at a nice sprint over the Polytrack at Arlington International.

A fabulous field of eight will go to the gate in this mid-card feature. There is decent speed to keep the pace swift.  Speed figs are fairly close which should lead to a contentious race. This group all have nice in the money records demonstrating that any on of them could finish with some purse dough.

#5 Sir Applesolutely (Geroux / Block) is coming off an extended layoff, but appears ready to do battle with this talented group. He holds the highest speed number at the distance. Prior to the layoff he was working a three race progression and was last seen scoring a victory earning the highest last out speed number of this crew. He has put in four strong peaking workouts in preparation.

Our horse racing weekend starts with a little downhill TURF action.

A interesting group of seven will make the journey to the downhill Turf start. There is plenty of speed to keep an active pace. Speed numbers are very close. A couple in here will make the transition from synthetic to Turf. It should be a excellent race.

#4 Baruta [BRZ] (Prat / Mandella) should be able to use her speed to capture this one. She holds the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and four superb peaking workouts. This gal shares the highest speed fig, of this field, on the downhill Turf coupled with an 80% in the money record at the distance.

#5 Campionessa Dolce (Talamo / Gaines) should challenge while she tries the Turf for the fisrt time. She comes off a couple of victories and a nice freshening. Superfecta Sunday on Jersey Turf

Congratulations to the connections of freshly minted Triple Crown Winner, American Pharoah!!  It was an exceptional run.

On this Superfecta Sunday we venture to that amazing place by the Jersey Shore, Monmouth Park, to take in a competitive Turf race.

Monmouth Park Race11 {Monmouth Stakes~G2~1 1/8 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~Graded Stakes}

A great group of nine Turfers will make the start in this annual Turf feature. There is enough speed in here to keep the pace humming along the Jersey shore. This is a closely matched group in which any one of these fellas could emerge the victor. The task at hand is to string together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#5 Churair (Rosario / C. Brown) is coming off an extended layoff, but appears primed to make this a good outing in his first race of 2015. He holds the second highest speed number at the distance with a 66% in the money record at same. This lad has put in four superb workouts in preparation. Additionally, he holds the highest speed number of the group over the Monmouth Turf. Look for him to track the pace and swoop into the stretch.

#4 Middleburg (Bravo / Clement) will challenge with a couple of good last out speed numbers, a two race progression, and two stout workouts. Belmont Stakes Day 2015

The "Test of a Champion" takes place today in this year's 147th running of the Belmont Stakes.

Belmont Park Race 11 {Belmont Stakes~G1~1 1/2 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A field of eight will make the start in the third leg of the Triple Crown. American Pharoah seeks to make history as the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978. He should be the speed of the race with a couple of others close in tow. The rest will be either tracking or closing valiantly. Only three have charted triple digit Beyer speed figs, the rest are still improving. It should be a smashing race. Post time is expected to be 6:50 pm Eastern time.

#5 American Pharoah (Espinoza / Baffert) may get the job done and place his name in the history books for eternity. He holds the highest last out speed number with his win in the Preakness and has put in two rugged workouts. He is up against it though with six wins in a row against mighty competition. This son of Pioneer of the Nile has notched three of those victories over a dirt surface from three efforts. He will need to control the pace up front and have enough in the tank to fend off those coming from off the pace. This lad has the best shot of any in recent member to capture the crown.

#3 Madefromlucky (Castellano / Pletcher) has the best potential to be the upsetter with the third highest (tie) last out speed number, an amazing seven race progression, and two serious peaking workouts. This son of Preakness winner, Lookin at Lucky, should be tracking the pace ready to enter the fray. he is the only horse in the field with a victory over the Belmont track. A powerful jockey-trainer combination could bring this guy home with flourish.

#1 Mubtaahij [IRE] (I. Ortiz / de Kock) is the other in the race with strong upset possibility. There is a reason world class trainer, Michael de Kock chose Belmont's leading rider, Irad Ortiz. It gives this lad the best chance to win. Despite taking a disappointing eight place in the Kentucky Derby, this guy has trained magnificently over the Belmont track with six superb workouts. This "Cheery" son of Dubawi [IRE] will be tracking the pace ready to explode into the stretch.

#6 Frosted (Rosario / McLaughlin) has the tactical speed to stay close with the leaders and make a move in the sweeping Belmont turn. He holds the second highest last out speed number and has put in three solid peaking workouts. This son of Tapit is the only other horse in the field that has race at Belmont with in the money success. He holds a 75% overall in the money record from eight starts.

#8 Materiality (J. Velazquez / Pletcher) should contend gallantly sharing the third highest last out speed number and putting in three strong peaking workouts. This son of Preakness and Belmont Stakes winner, Afleet Alex, has a decent shot at the upset. He holds the highest speed number over the dirt. This guy should be motoring on the front end with the Pharoah.

#7 Keen Ice (Desormeaux / Romans) has the best capability of getting the distance. With the fourth highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and four exceptional peaking workouts he will be a major player in the race. This son of Preakness winner, Curlin, will be firing late and swoop swiftly into a hot pace.

Furlong Friday at Belmont

Tomorrow is Belmont Stakes day where a tremendous undercard has been put forward. Today we enjoy our Furlong Friday as part of another great undercard at magnificent undercard.

Belmont Park Race 8 {True North Stakes~G2~6 furlongs~4 year-old Up~Graded Stakes}

A wonderful field of eight will go to the gate. This will be a speed laden event which has the possibility of reaching or getting close to a track record. These lads are supremely close in terms of speed figs having all earned the elusive triple digit at distance or on surface. This should be one of the most exciting races on today's Belmont card.

#5 Dads Caps (J. Ortiz / Rodriguez) might have the edge with the second highest last out speed number at a longer route and four superb workouts including three bullets. This lad should be forwardly placed asserting position for the ride home. he holds the highest speed number at the distance.

Horse Racing Weekend begins with a Turf Sprint

It is Belmont Stakes week.  On this Thursday, the start of our horse racing weekend, we take a peek at a fabulous Turf stakes race at magnificent Belmont Park.

Belmont Park Race 7 {Intercontinental Stakes~7 furlongs~TURF~4 year-old Up~fillies/mares~Stakes}

A high caliber field of fourteen ladies will hit the green in this feature stakes race. There is plenty of speed in the large field which will make for a very fluid pace. These fine ladies are equally matched in terms of speed figures. This will be a very contentious race. It may come down to which gal has the cleanest trip.

#11 Mabre Rose [IRE] (I. Ortiz / Clement) might have the edge with the highest (3-way tie) last out speed number at a route, a three race progression, and three hearty workouts. She has already scored a victory at this distance. This gal will be tracking the pace ready to pounce.

#12 Shrinking Violet (Desormeaux / Ward) should challenge with the second highest last out speed number and three superb peaking workouts. She also holds the highest speed number over the Turf and will be tracking the pace setters.
