Stakes Saturday at Saratoga

After a brief respite we are back in action as we take a look at one of the top Summer graded stakes races at "the Spa".

Saratoga Race 11 {Woodward~G1~1 1/8 mile~3 year-old Up~graded Stakes}

A great group of nine will go to the gate in this annual contest. There is enough speed signed on to guarantee an honest pace. Speed numbers are fairly close with most in the triple digits. Two millionaires join the battle for victory. It should be one of the most exciting races of the Labor day weekend racing action.

#5 Preservationist (Alvarado / Jerkens) might have a slight edge with three top flight last out speed figs and four supreme peaking workouts. This lad is an impressive 88% in the money from nine career starts. A son of Arch, he should be tracking the pace closely and launch into the stretch.
$1 WIN  /  $2 PLACE  / $3 SHOW.

#9 Tom's d'Etat (I. Ortiz / Stall) should take another step forward with the second highest last out speed number and two sound workouts. This guy loves the surface and distance. He could be part of the pace scenario. A son of Smart Strike, he has a strong 76% in the money record from thirteen career starts.
$1 PLACE  /  $2 SHOW.

#3 Vino Rosso (J. Velazquez / Pletcher) is fine tuned to make a significant impact in the race. His last three speed figs fit in this group well and he has one powerful bullet workout. This guy is 100% in the money at this distance. A millionaire son of Curlin, he should be tracking the pace ready to make his move.
$1 SHOW.

#7 Yoshida [JPN] (Rosario / Mott) will probably go off as the favorite with the highest last out speed number and two hearty workouts. This guy also holds the highest speed number at the distance. A millionaire son of Hearts Cry [JPN], he will be closing in on the leaders coming into the stretch.

Our Last Superfecta Sunday (8/18) Results
Century Mile R10.  Canadian Derby--G3.  We misfired on our 10 CENT Superfecta box attempt, only grabbing two of the four wagering interests required to score. Superfecta went 6-7-8-1.
Our Bronze Horseshoe runner, Journeyman, finished 2nd for show money of $4.80.
Bankroll dips to $6.37.  We will give it a Hamilton supplement for today's race.

Venture North for Graded Stakes

On this Superfecta Sunday we venture North for a fine graded stakes race at a new track in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Perhaps a change in venue will do us some good.

Century Mile Race 10 {Canadian Derby~G3~1 1/4 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A great field of twelve will enter into the gate in this 90th running of the derby. There is some speed to keep an honest pace. Speed figs align nicely giving any of these improving lads a chance to move over to the winners circle. All of these guys will be stretching out to the mile and a quarter distance. Our task is to hatch a winning 20 CENT Superfecta box ticket. It should be a fantastic race to wager and watch.

#8 Final Jeopardy (Sarmiento / Hall)  will be the favorite coming in from New York. He holds the highest last out speed fig and one sound workout. This colt has faced tougher in his young career. A son of Kentucky Derby winner, Street Sense, he should be tracking the pace-setters and close them all down.

#7 Journeyman (D. Nelson / Harty) should present a strong challenge with the fourth highest last out speed fig and three superb workouts. This gelding comes in from Chicago and holds a 100% in the money record from six career starts. Another son of a Kentucky Derby winner, Animal Kingdom, he should be tracking closely and strike in the stretch. He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.
$2 SHOW.

#10 Senor Friday (O. Mojica / Diodoro) appears to be sitting on a significant effort having traveled well in the North lands. He holds some good last out speed figs and three hearty, peaking workouts. He is one of the most experienced runners of the group earning a 54% in the money record from eleven career starts. A son of Curlin, he should enjoy this distance.

#3 Kaziranga (M. Pedroza / M. Simms) is another of the more experienced runners with some very good last out speed figs and one sharp workout. This colt should relish the distance as he comes in from the Kentucky racing circuit. A son of Candy Ride [ARG], he is another that will be part of the tracking crew looking for an opening as the quickening begins.

Turf Meets Surf on Stakes Saturday

Off we go to where the "Turf meets the Surf" to enjoy a classic graded Turf race.

Del Mar Race 7 {Del Mar Handicap~G2~1 3/8 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~Graded Stakes}

A fine field of nine will jog onto the Turf for this annual contest. There is some speed to keep the pace rolling. Speed figs are very close giving this race a strong competitive feel to it. Only one millionaire, #7 Itsinthepost [FR], is among this group. It should be a great race to lead off the challenging pick-5.

#4 Markies Water (Pereira / Baltas) might be in the best form to take this one down. He holds the second highest (tie) last out speed number and two robust workouts. This lad has already secured a victory at this distance in his only effort at it. A son of Tribal Rule, he does have some tactical speed to go with the flow of the race.
$2 WIN  /  $3 SHOW.

#5 United (Prat / Mandella) should pose a significant challenge with the third highest (tie) last out speed number and three hearty workouts. This guy will stretch out to this distance, but should handle it well. A son of Giant's Causeway, he should track and close with vigor.
$2 PLACE  /  $3 SHOW.

#7 Itsinthepost [FR] (Van Dyke / Mullins) should contend sharing the third highest last out speed number at a longer route and two sound workouts. This lad holds the highest amount of wins (10) among this group. A millionaire son of American Post [GB], he should be tracking the pace fluidly.
$2 SHOW.

#1 Oscar Dominguez [IRE] (Talamo / Baltas) should perform well provided he has some pace to run into. He holds the fourth highest last out speed number at a longer route and four serious workouts. This lad is a distance troubadour, having gone this distance six times and hitting the board for half of them. A son of ,Zoffany [IRE] he should close furiously.

Superfecta Sunday in the Pacific Northwest

We travel (digitally speaking, of course) to the beautiful Pacific Northwest to take in a wonderful Stakes mile.

Emerald Downs Race 7 {Longacre Mile~G3~1 mile~3 year-old Up~Graded Stakes}

A fascinating field of eleven will go to the gate in this two turn stakes mile. There is speed to carry the pace forward. Speed figs are very close making this race very competitive. Our task is to solder together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket. It should be an excellent race to wager and watch.

#2 Solid Wager (J. Gutierrez / Maker) looks to be in good form with the second highest last out speed number at a longer route and two sound workouts. This guy comes in from the Kentucky racing circuit. He holds the second highest speed number at the distance. A son of Birdonthewire, he will be running late into a swift pace.

#8 Anyportinastorm (J Hernandez / Wright) should go off as the deserved favorite seeking to win his fourth in a row. He holds the highest last out speed number at a sprint and four endurance enhancing workouts. This lad will be stretching out to this distance for the first time. A son of City Zip, he has the potential to wire this field.

#3 Oh Marvelous Me (Carreno / Wright) looks to take another step forward as a consistent Emerald Downs player. He holds a 100% in the money record at this distance from three tries. His speed figs match well with these fellas. A son of Blue Grass Cat, he should be tracking and closing into the pace. He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#4 Rocky Tough (Couton / McCanna) should challenge with the fourth highest speed number at the distance and two prime workouts. This guy loves the distance and the dirt. He is another that comes in from Kentucky.  A son of Paddy O'Prado, he should close fiercely into the stretch.

MILLION DAY

The top TURF event is finally here. The 37th running of the Arlington Million.

Arlington International Race 11 {ARLINGTON MILLION~G1~1 1/4 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~Graded Stakes}

A smashing field of nine will hit the grass in this exceptional Turf event. There is enough speed to keep a rolling pace. Speed numbers are fairly close. There are three millionaires in the field and all have a chance for the victory. This race should be one of the most exciting renditions of the high profile Arlington Million.

#2 Magic Wand [IRE] (Lordan / A. O'Brien) might pull off the upset as the only filly in the field. She comes out of a longer Turf route where she disappointed. Her two races prior to that were solid. This gal is 100% in the money at this distance from five starts. A daughter of the esteemed Turf sire, Galileo [IRE], she will be tracking the pace and gun it heading into the stretch.
$2 WIN  /  $3 SHOW.

#3 Bricks and Mortar (I. Ortiz / C. Brown) will go off as the overwhelming favorite. This guy has done nothing wrong in eleven career starts going 100% in the money. This lad has cobbled together five wins in a row securing the highest last out speed number and four premium peaking workouts. A son of Giant's Causeway, he should also be tracking and could close them down.

#9 Intellogent [IRE] (Geroux / Chappel) comes in from France to test his metal against this international cast. He holds the third highest (tie) last out speed number and one strengthening workout. This lad loves the Turf and the distance. A son of Intello [GER], he should be closing swiftly.

On the TURF for Superfecta Sunday

On this Superfecta Sunday, we take in a grand graded stakes race on the Turf in Southern California.

Del Mar Race 7 {La Jolla~G3~1 1/16 mile~TURF~3 year-olds~Graded Stakes}

A neat field of eight will step onto the Turf in this annual contest. There is some speed to keep the pace rolling. Speed numbers are very close which makes it any one of these lads race. All, but one of this crew have not raced at this exact distance. Our task is to string together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta Box ticket. It should be a very exciting race.

#5 Stubbins (Bejarano / O'Neill) will be stretching out in distance from his last with the highest last out speed number and two strong workouts. This lad has won three times and has been in the money 85% from seven career starts. He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection. A son of Morning Line he should race close to the pace.
$2 SHOW.

#6 Jasikan [IRE] (Prat / Sadler) has coined two wins in a row. He holds the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number and two hearty, peaking workouts. He will be stretching out to this distance for the first time. A son of Bated Breath [GB], he should be closing fiercely.

#1 Neptunes Storm (Van Dyke / Baltas) should challenge as another with two wins in a row. He holds the third highest last out speed number at a longer route and four superb workouts. Coming off a brief rest, he should be forwardly placed. A son of Stormy Atlantic, he is 77% in the money from nine starts.

#8 Rijeka [IRE] (Fuentes / Baltas) should contend sharing the fourth highest last out speed number and putting in two sharp peaking workouts. This lad loves the Del Mar green ahving finished three of four times racing over it. A son of Roderic O'Connor [IRE], he should be tracking the pace firmly.

Stakes Saturday for Champions

Stakes Saturday is upon us and there is exciting racing to be run in upstate New York.

Saratoga Race 9 {Whitney~G1~1 1/8 mile~3 year-old Up~Graded Stakes}

A reduced field of seven will saunter over to the gate in this annual race of great significance. It comes up extremely light on speed. Consequently, one of these fellas will have to pick up the pace by default. Speed numbers are fairly close among the contenders. There are four millionaires going to post in this high quality field. It should be a thrilling race.

#6 McKinzie (Smith / Baffert) should go off as the favorite and may take them from post to wire. He holds the second highest last out speed number and four tremendous peaking workouts. This colt shares the highest speed number at the distance and is an enviable 90% in the money from eleven career starts. A son of KD winner Street Sense, he checks off all the KPI's for the win.

#8 Preservationist (Alvarado / Jerkens) will pose a mighty challenge with the highest last out speed number at a longer route and three superb peaking workouts. This lad has rattled off three wins in a row. He is a lightly raced 100% in the money from eight career starts. A son of Arch, he should be racing close to the pace and launch into the stretch.

#5 Vino Rosso (J. Velazquez / Pletcher) is a very consistent sort that should bring it to the pace-setters. This colt holds the third highest last out speed number at a longer route and four strong peaking workouts. A son of Curlin, he has acquitted himself well over the Saratoga track. Look for him gunning it in the stretch.
