#6 Tenfold (Santana / Asmussen) is a new shooter who just missed capturing a gate in KD144. He shares the third highest last out speed number. a two race progression, and three significant peaking workouts. A son of Curlin, he should be forwardly placed.

Belmont Stakes Day 2015

The "Test of a Champion" takes place today in this year's 147th running of the Belmont Stakes.

Belmont Park Race 11 {Belmont Stakes~G1~1 1/2 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A field of eight will make the start in the third leg of the Triple Crown. American Pharoah seeks to make history as the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978. He should be the speed of the race with a couple of others close in tow. The rest will be either tracking or closing valiantly. Only three have charted triple digit Beyer speed figs, the rest are still improving. It should be a smashing race. Post time is expected to be 6:50 pm Eastern time.

#5 American Pharoah (Espinoza / Baffert) may get the job done and place his name in the history books for eternity. He holds the highest last out speed number with his win in the Preakness and has put in two rugged workouts. He is up against it though with six wins in a row against mighty competition. This son of Pioneer of the Nile has notched three of those victories over a dirt surface from three efforts. He will need to control the pace up front and have enough in the tank to fend off those coming from off the pace. This lad has the best shot of any in recent member to capture the crown.
$1 WIN.

#3 Madefromlucky (Castellano / Pletcher) has the best potential to be the upsetter with the third highest (tie) last out speed number, an amazing seven race progression, and two serious peaking workouts. This son of Preakness winner, Lookin at Lucky, should be tracking the pace ready to enter the fray. he is the only horse in the field with a victory over the Belmont track. A powerful jockey-trainer combination could bring this guy home with flourish.
$1 PLACE  /  $2 SHOW.

#1 Mubtaahij [IRE] (I. Ortiz / de Kock) is the other in the race with strong upset possibility. There is a reason world class trainer, Michael de Kock chose Belmont's leading rider, Irad Ortiz. It gives this lad the best chance to win. Despite taking a disappointing eight place in the Kentucky Derby, this guy has trained magnificently over the Belmont track with six superb workouts. This "Cheery" son of Dubawi [IRE] will be tracking the pace ready to explode into the stretch.
$2 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#6 Frosted (Rosario / McLaughlin) has the tactical speed to stay close with the leaders and make a move in the sweeping Belmont turn. He holds the second highest last out speed number and has put in three solid peaking workouts. This son of Tapit is the only other horse in the field that has race at Belmont with in the money success. He holds a 75% overall in the money record from eight starts.

#8 Materiality (J. Velazquez / Pletcher) should contend gallantly sharing the third highest last out speed number and putting in three strong peaking workouts. This son of Preakness and Belmont Stakes winner, Afleet Alex, has a decent shot at the upset. He holds the highest speed number over the dirt. This guy should be motoring on the front end with the Pharoah.

#7 Keen Ice (Desormeaux / Romans) has the best capability of getting the distance. With the fourth highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and four exceptional peaking workouts he will be a major player in the race. This son of Preakness winner, Curlin, will be firing late and swoop swiftly into a hot pace.

10 CENT SUPERFECTA

Superfecta Sunday on Belmont Turf

What a grand running of the Preakness.
American Pharoah is the real deal.  Congratulations to his connections.

On this Superfecta Sunday we grab a little Turf at the site of the third leg of the Triple Crown.

Belmont Park Race 7 {1 1/8 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~NY~Allowance}
A great group of ten turfers will take to the grass in this feature.  There is enough speed to guarantee a solid pace. Speed numbers are relatively close which should make for a competitive event. Our task is to string together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#10 Runaway Posse (Arroyo / Woolley) might have a slight edge with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three spot-on peaking workouts. This lad will be stretching out for the distance. Watch him close swiftly into a solid pace. Having secured a win over the Belmont course, he is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.
$2 SHOW.

#2 Thurgood (Franco / Clement) should challenge coming off an extended lay off. Lightly raced, he holds a 66% in the money record from three starts. He will be stretching out to this distance as a gelding. His connections do a fine job with horse returning to the track.  This guy should take up a tracking position and marshal an earnest closing.

#1 Macagone (J. Velazquez / Nihei) is also coming off an extended layoff. Prior to the layoff he rates the third highest last out speed number and a two race progression. He is the only runner in the group that has a victory at this distance. This lad has the tactical speed to fit in comfortably with whatever pace develops.

#9 Blue Shark (Alvarado / Donk) will be firing fresh off thirty rest and a maiden win. Among this group he holds the second highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and one stout workout. He too has the tactical speed to stay the course.

10 CENT Superfecta Box ($2.40)

Preakness 2015

Time to get your Preak on for Stakes Saturday. It is Preakness Day.

Pimlico Race 13 {Preakness~G1~1 3/16 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

The top three finishers in the Kentucky Derby return to face each other in the second leg of the Triple Crown in a dynamite field of eight. This race comes up extraordinary speedy. It could mean that a couple of fellas that enjoy coming off the pace could reach out and grab a piece of the purse. Scattered T-storms and a 30% chance of rain could dampen the outcome, but Pharoah, having acquitted himself successfully in slop should still be on the trail for the Triple Crown.

#1 American Pharoah (Espinoza / Baffert) will be the odds on favorite, perhaps Americans favorite to win the Triple Crown this year. The KD 141 champ will be right on the pace as his stable mate, Dortmund, may wish to set it. He holds the highest last out speed number at the longer Kentucky Derby distance and has put in one sizzling bullet workout. This son of Pioneer of the Nile is out to make history.
$2 WIN.

#8 Firing Line (Stevens / Callaghan) is still coming into his own coming off a superb second place finish in KD 141. he holds the second highest last out speed number and has put in two robust workouts. This son of Line of David could sit right off the pace and enjoy eating up ground coming into the stretch. He could post a giant performance.
$2 PLACE  /  $3 SHOW.

#5 Tale of Verve (Rosario / Stewart) is coming off a maiden win at this exact distance at Keeneland. A son of Tale of Ekati, he should be in the hunt as the pace heats up. He holds the fourth highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and two hearty workouts. This lad could be the big surprise on Preakness Day.
$2 SHOW.

Other Contenders

#2 Dortmund (M. Garcia / Baffert) should be the pace setter, but the long and arduous Triple Crown Trail may tucker this guy out. He shares the third highest last out speed number and has put in two stellar peaking workouts. This son of Big Brown should compete nobly as he attempts to thwart history.

#7 Divining Rod (Castellano / Delacour) could be another surprise also coming off the third highest last out speed number, working a two race progression, and putting in three superb peaking workouts. This son of Tapit bypassed KD 141 in favor of this race. He is in fine form and will be forwardly placed seeking to grab a piece.

A Preaky Furlong Friday

Pimlico Race 8 {Adena Springs Miss Preakness~G3~6 furlongs~3 year-old~Fillies~Graded Stakes}

A highly talented group of eight fillies will make their start in this annual affair.  This is a speed laden group which should make for a very hot pace. Speed numbers are very close indicating this will be a highly competitive race. Let's get fired up for a great Preakness weekend.

#10 Spark (Castellano / Jerkens) could have an edge with a versatile running style that should be reluctant to get involved with the speedfest upfront.  She has the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number, a three race progression and one stout workout. She sould take another step forward today.
#2 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#6 Divine Dawn (Clark / L. Jones) should be ready to roll with a pressing style. She shares the fourth highest last out speed number and has put in one bullet workout. This gal has a victory at this distance with the fourth highest speed number at the same.

#9 Irish Jasper (Carmouche / Ryan) should contend with the second highest last ut speed number, a three race progression, and one peaking bullet workout. She has a terrific versatile running style that should fit into the pace scenario well.

Triple Crown on the Line

It is Belmont Stakes Day on this Stakes Saturday.  The Triple Crown is on the line as California Chrome will run the final leg.

It's 0540, Arlington Park Time.  Horsemen and horsewomen are making their rounds checking in on their charges...And wondering if Chrome will be the next Triple Crown champion??  It has been thirty-six years since it was last captured by Affirmed.

You can't help but cheer for this horse and his connections.  Working men and women chasing a dream against the odds.  It is a uniquely American story and a genuinely classic California tale.

On the race analysis.

Belmont Park Race 11 {BELMONT STAKES~G1~1 1/2 mile~3 year olds~Stakes}
A top quality field of eleven will go to the gate in the last of the Triple Crown races.  There are a handful of horse that will be forwardly placed which should produce a controlled pace.  All eyes will be on California Chrome and his trademark spurt.  It should be one of the most exciting races in recent memory.

#2 California Chrome (Espinoza / Sherman) is the horse to beat.  This glorious son of Lucky Pulpit has already banked over $3.4 million. He holds the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and one solid workout.  He should be forwardly placed for the victory, though there will be not much value as he should be the overwhelming favorite.
$1 WIN.

#11 Tonalist (Rosario / Clement) should challenge as he should also be forwardly placed.  This son of Tapit holds the second highest (tie) last out speed number, a four race progression, and two stellar workouts.  This lad also holds the highest speed number over the Belmont oval.
$2 PLACE  /  $3 SHOW.

#9 Wicked Strong (Maragh / Jerkens) should contend having been in the money in two starts at Belmont Park.  He placed fourth in the Kentucky Derby in his last race earning him fourth.  An o.k. speed figure was derived from that race. This son of Hard Spun has put in three sensational peaking workouts since.  He should be coming on, well, er, Wicked Strong in the stretch.
$2 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#5 Ride on Curlin (J. Velazquez / Gowan) should also be coming on strong as he did in his second place finish in the Preakness.  This son of Curlin shares the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two endurance producing workouts.  He should be running late.

#8 Commissioner (Castellano / Pletcher) should have no trouble with the distance as his daddy, A.P Indy, was the 1992 Belmont Stakes winner.  He holds the third highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two quality peaking workouts.  He is another that will be running speedily through the stretch.

#4 Commanding Curve (Bridgmohan / Stewart) should be in the mix easily handling the marathon distance.  He holds the fourth highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and three superb peaking workouts.  This son of Master Command will be making a late run toward the wire.

Black Eye Friday

On this Friday, the eve of the second leg of the Triple Crown, we look to rainy Maryland to watch the fillies in a great race.

Pimlico Race 10 {Black Eye Susan~G2~1 1/8 mile~3 year old~fillies~Stakes}
A fantastic field of eleven will go to the gate in this annual affair.  The weather forecast calls for heavy rain.  The track will no doubt be sloppy.  Despite that, this is a great group of gals with closely comparable speed numbers.  Only four have gone this distance and five have traveled well over a wet track.  It should be an incredible race in which any one of these fillies could win.

#4 Stopchargingmaria (Castellano / Pletcher) could go off as the favorite with the fourth highest last out speed number, a two race progression and three sensational workouts.  This daughter of Tale of the Cat also holds the highest speed number over a wet track.  She will probably be close to the pace ready to strike.
$2 WIN  / $3 SHOW.

#9 Fortune Pearl (McCarthy / Motion) could surprise as the only gal with a victory over this track.  She holds the second highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two hearty workouts. A Mineshaft daughter, this gal has been in the money over a wet track from one start.
$2 SHOW.

#10 Vero Amore (Pennington / Reid) could also surprise with a couple of decent last out speed numbers and two strong peaking workouts.  Another daughter of Mineshaft, she should be forwardly placed ready to launch into the stretch.  This gal has raced over a wet track twice and has been in the money both times.
$2 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

Preakness Day 2013

Yes.  The second leg of the Triple Crown will be our race for Stakes Saturday.

Pimlico Race 12 {Preakness~G1~1 3/16 mile~3 year old~Stakes}
A fabulous field of nine will make their way to the starting gate for the running of the 138th Preakness Stakes.  This significantly reduced field from that of KD 139 will be gunning for Kentucky Derby winner Orb.  There is nice balance in this group between the speedsters, pressers, trackers and closers.  It will be an extremely exciting race.

#1 Orb (Rosario / McGaughey) will be the one to beat.  He holds the highest last out speed number, a six race progression, and three fine-tuned peaking workouts.  The only drawback to this splendid Malibu Moon colt is, he will be going for his sixth win in a row; a monumental task at this high level of competition.  Still, he should get a favorable pace set-up and swing gallantly into the stretch.  Not much value will be offered on him, however.
$1 WIN / $1 SHOW.

#5 Mylute (Napravnik / Amoss) should challenge coming into the stretch.  This fifth place finisher in KD 139 appears geared for another big performance holding the second highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three diligent workouts.  This son of Midnight Lute by the Stage Stop dam should take another step forward.  Expect him to come a running right off Orb's flank.
$1 PLACE / $2 SHOW.

#4 Departing (Hernandez / Stall) is one of three new shooters in this big race along the Triple Crown Trail.  He was last seen winning the Illinois Derby at gritty Hawthorne Race Course near Chicago.  He holds the third highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two good workouts.  This son of War Front can be expected to improve once again with a nice tracking effort.
$2 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#8 Governor Charlie (M. Garcia / Baffert) is another new shooter looking to dethrone the great Orb.  He holds the third highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three smoking workouts.  This other son of Midnight Lute by Silverbulletday should be forwardly placed biding his time to make a move.

#6 Oxbow (Stevens / Lukas) will be making his ninth start in a row uninterrupted by a freshening or layoff.  A tall task lies ahead for this son of Awesome Again and dam, Tizamazing.  There is no doubt he can get the distance.  He holds two solid last out speed numbers despite a disappointing finish in KD 139.  This fine colt has put in three peaking workouts in the last thirty days.  With a versatile running style and the most experienced jockey, Gary Stevens, in the irons, he could surprise big time.

10 CENT Superfecta

Superfecta Sunday at Belmont

Can you believe it is Superfecta Sunday already??  The Preakness is less than a week away and the Belmont Stakes is not far on the horizon.  Soon it will be a great horse racing summer.  Today we look at a tremendous sprint race at Belmont.

Belmont Park Race 6 {7 furlongs~4 year old Up~Optional Claimer}
A terrific field of eight high caliber horses have entered this race.  There is enough speedy types in here to make it a trackers dream race.  It will be a very good race, but a little difficult to sew together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.  Let's give it a whirl.

#7 Big Business (C. Velasquez / Jacobson) appears ready to triumph with the second highest (tie) last out speed number, a three race progression, and two sharp peaking workouts.  He could be in the best position to take advantage of a hot pace. The big guy will be our Bronze Horseshoe runner.
$2 SHOW.

#6 Private Tale (Castellano / Trombetta) will challenge utilizing his tracking/closing ability.  He holds the highest last out speed number prior to a layoff, a two race progression, and has put in three stellar peaking workouts.  A favorable 66% in the money record at the distance supports his effort.

#4 Saginaw (Alvarado / Jacobson) should be the odds-on favorite with the highest speed at the distance, the fourth highest last out speed number prior to a reasonable freshening, and five superb peaking workouts.  He will share speed duties and should he control the pace will be hard to catch.

#8 Hillswick (Rosario / Rodriguez) can be in the mix with a strong speed number two starts back and two robust workouts.  He loves the Belmont track holding the second highest speed number and an 84% in the money record over six starts.  This guy will be part of the forwardly placed crowd.

Thursday is the start of our horse racing weekend.  Today we take a look at a beautiful Belmont mile race.  Excitement brews with the Preakness only nine days away.

Belmont Park Race 7 {1 mile~3 year old~Optional Claiming}
A very nice group of eight will trot to the gate in this feature race.  There is enough speed in this one to keep the pace honest.  All the horses are converging on Belmont from differing tracks up and down the East coast.  It should be a very interesting race.

#8 Tenango (Cohen / Jacobson) has a slight edge with the third highest last out speed number and one peaking workout.  He holds an impressive 90% in the money record in ten career starts.  This guy has the ability to press or track the pace to great benefit.
$1 WIN / $1 SHOW.

#3 Make Your Move (Chamafi / McLaughlin) will challenge with the fourth highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and three diligent workouts.  He should be tracking the pace ready to close swiftly.
