Stakes Saturday on the West Coast

Horse racing is warming nicely on the West coast as we move closer to the Breeder's Cup Championships. On this Stakes Saturday we take a look at a great grade one.

Santa Anita Park Race 10 {Awesome Again~G1~1 1/8 mile~3 year-old Up~Graded Stakes}

A highly talented group of seven will go to the California dirt in this grade one. Four millionaires are among this group giving it a very high caliber feel. There is tremendous speed which should make for a fast pace. Beyer speed figs are super close. It should be an extremely exciting race.

#6 Mubtaahij [IRE] (Van Dyke / Baffert) looks to be in sound shape after a long layoff. He will start fresh coming out of Dubai with some excellent last out performances. He has put together a powerful workout tab prepping for this one. A millionaire son of Dubawi [IRE], he should take full advantage of the speedsters up front.

#3 Midnight Storm (T. Baze / D'Amato) should dictate terms of the pace and have enough left to fend off the trackers. He holds the second highest (tie) last out speed number, a three race progression, and four superb workouts. This millionaire son of Pioneer of the Nile, excels at the distance and enjoys the Santa Anita track.
$2 SHOW.

#5 Breaking Lucky (Smith / R. Baker) should challenge as he follows the pace closely. This lad holds the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three sensational bullet workouts. He shares the highest speed number at the distance with two others. A millionaire son of Lookin At Lucky, this will be his first battle at Santa Anita.
$2 SHOW.

Another Wagering Interest

#8 Cupid (Bejarano / Baffert) is the deserved morning line favorite and he could be part of a Bob Baffert exacta. He shares the second highest last out speed number and has put in four excellent workouts. This guy is 100% in the money over the track. A millionaire son of Tapit, he has the tactical speed to acknowledge the developing pace and shoot into the stretch.

Furlong Friday in MD

We found a nice Turf sprint in Maryland for our Furlong Friday.

Laurel Park Race 9 {5 1/2 Furlongs~TURF~3 year-old Up~Allowance}

A modest field of eight will hit the Maryland grass in this Turf sprint. There is plenty of speedy gals in this one. Speed figs are fairly close. Consequently, it should be a nice battle. Interestingly only two Kentucky breds make an appearance. The balance were bred in PA (2), MD, LA, WV, and FL. What a great breeding showcase that creates. It should be a grand Turf sprint.

#5 My Sister Caro (Cintron / C. Martin) looks to be the one to beat with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and one solid work. She should be forwardly placed close to the pace and swoop into the stretch. This West Virginia bred loves the distance and the course.
$2 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#2 Dare to Be (S. Hamilton / Jenkins) should challenge coming out of a stakes race at a slightly longer distance. She holds the highest speed number at this distance and has put in two dynamite workouts. One of the Kentucky breds that should hit the board closing swiftly.

#4 Play Unified (F. Lynch / Weaver) looks to be in great form and should be in the hunt. She holds a couple of very good last out speed numbers and has put in two hearty workouts. Coming down from Saratoga, this will be her first try over the Laurel Turf course. A Louisiana bred with tactical speed.

#3 Daylight Ahead (K Davis / McMahon) should contend with the third highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and one peaking workout. She should be battling on the lead ready for another strong performance. A Maryland bred with all the signs of home course advantage.

Belmont Park R9.  Maiden Claiming.  Our first "dividend" pick, Paula's Pistol, finished 7th.  Our second "dividend" pick, Christmas Sky, finished 3rd for show money of $4.10.
We misfired on our 10 CENT Superfecta Box play, hitting only two of the four wagering interests required to score some cash. Superfecta went 3-9-5-7.

Let's Start Our Horse Racing Weekend in NY

To start our horse racing weekend we look in on "Big Sandy" for a competitive maiden claiming sprint.

Belmont Park Race 9 {6 furlongs~3 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~Maiden Claiming}

A nicely bred group of ten gals will hit the Belmont dirt in this last race on today's card. There are a few in here that should show some speed with a couple of first time starter's who will unfold their racing style. Speed numbers of those that have run are reasonably close. Some excellent pedigrees are represented in this herd making for a superbly exciting race.

#9 Seam (L. Saez / Pletcher) looks to be the overwhelming favorite as she drops in from Maiden Special Weight competition. This gal holds the second highest (tie) last out speed number at a furlong longer sprint and has put in one durable workout. She should track the pace and put on the afterburners coming into the stretch.

#10 Paula's Pistol (Franco / Nevin) is a first time starter that has put in a strong workout tab of four peaking works. This gal is a daughter of Mineshaft.  Trainer, Michelle Nevin hits with 11% of her first time charges. With some good favorites carrying little wagering value we have to go with this filly for the dividend.

#1 Fortunate Queen (I. Ortiz / R. Rodriguez) will be one of the favs in this one with a couple of in the money performances last out and three solid workouts. This will be her first start at Belmont, but she is 75% in the money at this distance from four tries. This gal is another tracker who will make a rush into the stretch.

#5 Christmas Sky (H. Diaz / Gullo) is the other first time starter in the field. Trainer Gary Gullo joins his first time starters in the winners circle 15% of the time. A daughter of Bodemeister, this gal has put in two sprinty, peaking workouts prepping for her debut. She is another we will chase a dividend with.

Superfecta Sunday OK

On this Superfecta Sunday we take in a great race in Oklahoma.

Remington Park Race 11 {Oklahoma Derby~G3~1 1/8 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A super fine crop of three year-olds will hit the dirt in this annual event. There is enough speed to keep an honest pace.  Speed numbers are fairly close with most shipping in from other parts of the country.  It should be a fantastic race. Our task is to lasso a group of horses to formulate a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#3 Battle of Midway (Prat / Hollendorfer) comes in from Del Mar holding the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three solid workouts. He should appreciate this distance while being forwardly placed.

#7 Colonelsdarktemper (Court / Fires) should challenge from the front end. He holds the second highest last out speed number and has fired two bullet workouts. He comes in from Parx.  This guy has won at this distance and is sure to relish the Remington dirt. He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.
$2 SHOW.

#5 Untrapped (Santana / Asmussen) looks to contend with the fourth highest last out speed number and four hearty workouts. He comes in from Indiana Grand. This guy loves the dirt and should do well at this distance. He should take every advantage of a strong pace as he tracks the leaders.

#6 Gato del Oro (Bejarano / Baltas) is another coming in from Del Mar.  Lightly raced and stretching out to this distance, he should take another step forward. He holds the third highest last out speed number and two strong workouts. This lad should be forwardly placed.

Horse Racing Weekend begins as Arlington Meet nears End

We start off our Horse Racing Weekend as the Arlington meet nears its end. On the Turf for some spectacular racing action.

Arlington International Race 9 {1 1/16 mile~TURF~3 year-old up~Claiming}

A solid group of twelve will hit the green in this low level claiming contest. There is some speed to keep the pace rolling. Speed numbers are very close which should produce a competitive event. A few in here are trying the Arlington Turf for the first time with one trying Turf for the very first time. It should be a terrific race on a beautiful Chicago day.

#1 Summer Spice (Murrill / Stidham) should go off as the deserved favorite with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two good workouts. This lad holds the highest speed number at the distance and has hit the board 72% of the time at same. he should be tracking and closing well.
$2 WIN  /  $3 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#9 Find Silver (Felix / D. Bennett) should challenge with the fourth highest last out speed number. He has hit the board both times while traveling this distance and has achieved the third highest speed number at same. He could be leading on the front end.

#3 Sacred Promise (Valdivia / Gorder) will contend with a couple of o.k. last out speed numbers and two superb peaking workouts. Dropping down in class he likes the Turf and the distance. Another tracker that should strike in the stretch.

#12 Sea of Anarchy (De La Cruz / Granitz) should be in the mix with a couple of o.k. last out speed numbers. Proven at this distance, he will be trying the Arlington Turf for the first time. Another who should be part of the tracking crew.

Superfecta Sunday under the Spires

On this Superfecta Sunday we take a look at a grand Turf mile under the Twin Spires.

Churchill Downs Race 10 {1 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~Claiming}

A solid field of twelve will hit the Churchill green in this last on the card Turf battle.
There is enough speed to maintain an honest pace. Speed numbers are all fairly close giving the race a competitive feel. Our task is to knit together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#12 Oathkeeper (Geroux / Brisset) should be able to stay close to the pace seeking the victory. He holds the fourth highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three fierce workouts including two bullets. This lad is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.
$2 SHOW.

#14 Purely Boy (Leparoux / Maker) is coming off more than a year layoff, but looks well prepped to challenge. He has put in three vigorous workouts. This guy loves the distance and the Churchill Turf course. He should put on a streaking close.

#2 Dujac (Landeros / Wilkes) appears to be ready to take another step forward with two decent last out speed numbers, a two race progression, and one solid workout. He his coming out of a longer route race and has the tactical speed to move with the developing pace.

#6 Zander Zone (Court / O'Connor) should contend with the highest last out speed number and a two race progression. He is 50% in the money at the distance and overall (30 career races). He should track and go.

Up North for Stakes Saturday

We look in on one of the great Turf courses in North America to watch the always exciting Woodbine Mile.

Woodbine Race 12 {Woodbine Mile~G1~1 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~Graded Stakes}

A fantastic field of twelve will take to the lush Woodbine grass. There is enough speed to create an honest pace. Speed numbers are all fairly close creating an opportunity for any of the entrants to win. It should be the best race on Stakes Saturday.

#6 Deauville [IRE] (Spencer / O'Brien) has an edge with the fourth highest last out speed number in the Arlington Million at a much longer distance. The cut back should aid his efforts. A millionaire son of Galileo [IRE], this lad should track the pace closely and spring into the stretch willingly.

#2 Tower of Texas (Da Silva / Attfield) will challenge with a couple of very good last out speed numbers, a two race progression, and two very strong workouts. He loves the course and distance which should help his cause. A son of Street Sense, he should be part of the tracking crew.

#1 World Approval (J. Velazquez / Casse) might be the horse to beat with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression and three stellar peaking workouts. He holds the highest speed number at this distance. A son of Northern Afleet, he should be forwardly placed maintaining a good position.

#8 Mondialiste [IRE] (J. Ortiz  / O'Meara) should contend with  a couple of good last out speed numbers, the last one being at a longer route distance. He is the 2015 winner of this event. Another son of Galileo [IRE], with the proper pace he should be closing swiftly.

#12 Glenville Gardens (Contreras / S. Attard) looks to be in the hunt with a couple of good last out speed numbers, a three race progression, and two top notch workouts. He is another that loves the course and distance. A son of Street Cry [IRE], he has the tactical speed which will suit this field well.

Furlong Friday over the TURF

On this Furlong Friday we take in a Turf sprint at one of the best tracks in the world.

Arlington International Race 9 {5 Furlongs~TURF~3 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~Claiming}

A nice field of nine will go to the green in this last on the card event. There is speed o plenty to get this one off fling fast.  A speed duel could develop. Speed numbers are fairly close with a number in here dropping in class. It should be a tremendously interesting race.

#3 Mirabelle Magic (Murrill / Robertson) comes in from Canterbury to challenge these gals. She holds the second highest (tie) last out speed number, a three race progression, and three wholesome workouts. She'll be making a transition from dirt to turf. This gal should sit off an explosive pace and rock on in the stretch.

#9 Tizamint (Sanjur / Holas) looks to be in great form and should step up nicely after breaking her maiden last out. She shares the second highest last out speed number and is working a five race progression. She should be forwardly placed battling with the rest.

#7 Prairie Night (Marquez / Tracy) is also coming in from Canterbury and making her first start on the Turf. Pedigree suggest she may like the carpet under her hooves. She has a couple of decent last out speed numbers. Look for her to roll into the stretch off the pace.

Horse Racing Weekend begins on the Turf

That fine rolling Turf course in Franklin, Kentucky is where we start our horse racing weekend.

Kentucky Downs Race 9 {Ramsey Farm Stakes~1 5/16 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~Stakes}

A talented group of nine will hit the Turf in this feature race. It comes up a little short on speed which should make for a nice quickening as it nears the end. Speed figures on the other hand are fairly close. It should be a great race to kick off our Horse Racing Weekend.

#11 La Piba (Geroux / B. Cox) looks ready for the stretch out with the second highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and three superb workouts. This gal should do fine in her first run over the unique Kentucky Downs course.
$2 SHOW.

#6 Queen Blossom [IRE] (Lynch / Motion) should move forward as she tackles this course. She holds a couple of very good last out speed numbers, a three race progression, and three sturdy workouts. This gal should be part of the tracking crew.

#4 Kitten's Roar (J. Ortiz / Maker) is much the horse to beat with the highest last out speed number in a Grade One affair, a four race progression, and three stout workouts. This gal is proven over this course by virtue of a win in her only effort over it. She should be reasonably close to the pace waiting to strike in the stretch.

#2 Tricky Escape (DeCarlo / Ashby) looks ready to give it her best with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and one good workout. She is an impressive 81% in the money from eleven career starts. Another tracker looking for position.

Superfecta Sunday on TURF

As Hurricane Irma pounds Florida our thoughts and prayers are with the people and our Equine Hero's living down there.

We look in on a terrific Turf contest on this Superfecta Sunday.

Kentucky Downs Race 9 {Dueling Grounds Derby~1 5/16 mile~TURF~3 year-old~Stakes}

A great group of eight will take to the grass in this annual affair. It comes up a little light on speed giving the forwardly placed runners a bit of a chance. Only one in here has gone beyond this distance and the rest will be stretching out. Speed figs are very close making for a spectacularly competitive event. Our task is to hook together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#5 Parlor (Leparoux / Kenneally) might go off as the favorite with the second highest last out speed number, a five race progression, and three hearty workouts. He has already acquitted himself over this course. He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.
$2 SHOW.

#8 Gorgeous Kitten (Geroux / Maker) will challenge with a couple of very good last out speed numbers, a three race progression, and two sturdy workouts. This guy loves the Turf and should get the distance easily.

#4 Society Beau (Graham / Howard) is another that will be making his first trip over the grass with a couple of good last out speed numbers and three solid workouts. This guy has the best in the money record of 78% from fourteen starts.

#2 Bronson (Gaffalione / Maker) should be in the mix with a couple of good last out spee numbers, a five race progression, and four strong workouts. This guy should enjoy the stretch out over the Turf.

Furlong Friday at a Championship Meet

Opening its Championship, the bountiful Belmont Park, will feature a glorious sprint over the Turf. Our Fall Furlong Friday begins.

Belmont Park Race 8 {Christiecat~6 Furlongs~TURF~3 year-old~Fillies~Stakes}

A great field of nine exceptional Fillies will sprint on the green in this affair. There is speed o plenty in this one which should aid the trackers. Speed numbers are fairly close which should yield a highly competitive event. It should be a great opening feature for the Belmont meet.

#9 Adorable Miss (Castellano / Pletcher) might have the edge with the ramped up speed in this one. She holds the highest last out speed number at a route and three quality workouts. This gal is 100% in the money from four career starts. Rest and ready she is the one to beat.

#6 Epping Forest (Rosario / Clement) should challenge with a couple of strong in the money performances last out. She holds the highest speed number at the distance and two solid workouts. This young lady loves the Belmont course and the distance.

The unofficial ending of summer allows to move fluidly into our Horse Racing Weekend.
Today we look in on that great boutique meet at unique Kentucky Downs.

What began with a full field of twelve has dwindled down to seven in this highly competitive Turf contest. It has enough speed to keep a strong pace over this course. Speed numbers are fairly close. It should be another exciting race to start our Horse racing weekend off.

#12 Thatcher Street (Landeros / Wilkes) has the edge with two in the money starts over this rambling course. He holds the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three robust workouts. This lad should track the pace closely and spring smoothly into the stretch run.
