Back to Hollywood for Stakes Saturday

Hollywood was in Chicago the other day.  At least a movie crew was.  They flew helicopters over the city to gather shots for some of the final editing for a film called "Divergent", due out in early 2014.  The film is based on the book of the same name by the talented young writer, Veronica Roth. We mention this only because venerable Hollywood Park will be gone at the end of this racing season, but Hollywood itself shall live on.

Also, we did not want to diverge from Friday's racing activity and for this Stakes Saturday will take in a wonderful grade one for two year old fillies at Hollywood Park.

Betfair Hollywood Park Race 6 {Hollywood Starlet~G1~1 1/16 mile~2 year old~fillies~Stakes}
A rambunctious field of eight will go to the gate in this annual grade one.  There is smidgeon of speed, so expect a quickening into turn toward home. Any one of these gals can win it. Most of these gals have proven themselves, but only half have gone this distance.  All continue to improve which should make this one a dandy of a race.

#7 Streaming (M. Garcia / Baffert) will be in contention sharing the fourth highest last out speed number in her only start and putting in three great workouts.  This daughter of Smart Strike won that race at first asking and will be stretching out.  She is another that should be tracking the pace.

A Turfy Friday

Thank goodness it is Friday, once again.

Betfair Hollywood Park Race 7 {1 mile~TURF~3 year old Up~Optional Claiming}
A talented field of seven will step out onto the green in this allowance feature.  There is speed to keep the pace humming.  Many in here are coming off freshenings or layoffs.  Speed numbers at the distance are relatively comparable which should make for an extremely competitive race.

#6 Dubai You X Y Z (Blanc / Tsgalakis) is coming off an extended layoff with three superb workouts.  Prior to the layoff his speed number in a longer route ranks as the highest last out among this group.  Also, he was working on a two race progression.  He holds the second highest speed number at the distance scoring two wins from three starts.  This guy will be tracking the pace ready to swoop on through.
$2 SHOW.

#3 Rauschenberg (Talamo / M. Jones) will challenge with the third highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and four excellent workouts.  He holds the third highest speed number at the distance with an 80% in the money record from five starts at the distance.  With a legitimate pace he will be closing gallantly.

Superfecta Sunday at Hollywood

Let's go to the Turf on this Superfecta Sunday.

Betfair Hollywood Park Race 6 {Hollywood Derby~G1~1 1/4 mile~TURF~3 year old~Graded Stakes}
An intriguing field of ten will go to the Turf in this annual affair.  Exactly half the field in this race have gone this distance and the other half will be stretching out this far for the first time.  It comes a very light on speed as most of these guys like to run from off the pace.  Interestingly, all of them are coming off of 1 1/8 mile Turf routes.  Given the high quality of the field it should be a challenging task to edit a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#6 Admiral Kitten (Leparoux / Maker) may have the edge with the second highest last out speed number, a five race progression, and four terrific workouts.  He will be closing late with sufficient pace.  This lad is 100% in the money over the surface.  He is our Bronze Horseshoe runner.
$2 SHOW

#4 Jack Milton (Rosario / Pletcher) will challenge with the third highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and four athletic workouts.  He too is 100% in the money over the Turf.  Look for him to track the pace and close swiftly.

#5 Seek Again (Nakatani / Gosden) will be making his first North American start after success racing in Britain.  Comparatively speaking, he has the highest last out speed number and is working a two race progression.  With first time Lasix, expect him to be tracking the pace closely and launch into a dramatic stretch run.

#9 Rookie Sensation (Espinoza / Shirreffs) should take another step forward stretching out with the fourth highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two robust workouts.  He is another that will be tracking the pace and seeking to keep his 100% in the money record over the grass intact.
