Superfecta Sunday Stakes at Santa Anita

 We take in a superb Turf route going downhill at beautiful Santa Anita.

Santa Anita Park Race 7 {Santa Ana Stakes~G3~1 1/4 mile~downhill TURF~4 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~Graded Stakes}

A great group of gals will run downhill in this featured graded stakes race.

Past Performances used:  Equibase.

Only one of these gals will be running this distance for the first time. Two will try the downhill course for the first time. There is a modest of amount of speed to keep the pace rolling. Speed numbers are fairly close with only one not notching a triple-digit speed fig among their last three races. It should be a great race on a beautiful day of racing.

#10 Mrs. Astor (Fresu / Thomas) is the deserved favorite seeking her third win in a row. She has scored three triple-digit speed figs in a row. This gal comes to the race with the highest last out speed number at a longer route and three diligent workouts. Look for her to be among a large tracker pack. She loves the Turf, distance, and course. A daughter of Lookin At Lucky, she is 77% in the money from twenty-two starts.

#2 Queen Sienna [ARG] (V. Espinoza / Polanco) will be trying the downhill course for the first time. She has successfully raced at the distance in Peru. This gal will be part of the tracker pack. She comes to the race with the third highest last out speed number and four outstanding workouts. A daughter of Fortify, she is 70% in the money from seventeen starts.

#8 Take a Breath [GB] (jaramillo / Glatt) should be tracking and closing into the pace. She enters the race with the fourth highest last out speed number and three supreme workouts. This gal is likely to take another step forward. A daughter of Bated Breath [GB], she is 41% in the money from twelve starts.

#9 Resolve (Berrios / Powell) is among the top in the money performers over the TURF. She will be part of the tracker pack. This girl has hit the board in her last two starts. One solid workout will add to her armaments. A daughter of Midnight Lute, she is 56% in the money from sixteen starts.

#1 Ima Joker (Demuro / O'Neill) comes into the race with the second highest last out speed number at a longer route and three strong peaking workouts. She has a win at this distance. Superfecta Sunday on the Turf at Santa Anita

 We look in on a superb graded stakes race over the Turf on this Superfecta Sunday.

Santa Anita Park Race 7 {Santa Ana Stakes~G3~1 1/4 mile~downhill TURF~4 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~Graded Stakes}

A great group of nine talented ladies will hit the green in this annual event.

Past Performances used:  Equibase.

This should be a stellar race on the day. There is enough speed to maintain an honest pace, though there will be a quickening heading into the stretch. Speed numbers are fairly close. Only three in the field have gone this distance and only four have experienced downhill action. This race will be the final race for the final table in this year's National Handicapping Championship at the Horseshoe in Las Vegas, Nevada. Good luck to those skilled players who make it to the final table.

#3 Australia Mia (Dettori / McCarthy) should go off as the deserved favorite. She comes off a longer Turf route where she earned the third highest last out speed number. Two excellent workouts add to her luster. She has hit the board three of four times, albeit in Chile. This gal should be forwardly placed. She loves the turf, distance and course. A daughter of Street Sense, she is 75% in the money from twenty career starts.

#7 Buzz of New York [IRE] (Rispoli / D'Amato) will challenge with the highest last out speed number and a bullet workout. This gal will be stretching out to this distance as a lover of the Turf. She should track the pace closely and spring into the stretch. A daughter of Toronado [IRE], she is 64% in the money from seventeen career starts.

#9 Ballet Dancing (Prat / Callaghan) should continue improvement on the stretch-out. She is another that will track the pace closely. This filly shares the fourth highest last out speed number and has posted two sound workouts. A daughter of Medaglia d'Oro, she is 62% in the money from eight career starts.

#5 Duvet Day [IRE] (Kimura / McCarthy) is experienced at this distance and slightly longer. She holds the second highest last out speed number and two fine workouts. Look for her to track the pace. A daughter of Starspangledbanner [AUS], she is 53% in the money from thirteen career starts.

Furlong Friday at Fair Grounds

On the eve of the great Louisiana Derby we take a look at some prime Louisiana equines for Furlong Friday.

Fair Grounds Race 7 {6 Furlongs~4 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~LA~Claiming}

A great group of nine will go to the gate in this sprint. There is sufficient speed to keep the pace rolling. Speed numbers are very, very close making it a supremely competitive contest. Half the field is coming out of a little more challenging races. It should be an excellent race with any of these gals having a chance to strut in the winners circle.

#9 Blessed Song (Broussard / Reeves) is the only gal who has not ran over the Fair Grounds track, but comes into this race with a solid record. She holds the second highest last out speed number at a slightly longer sprint. This gal will be tracking the pace ready to strike in the stretch.

#6 Our Golden Girl (Geroux / Ladner) should challenge with the highest last out speed number and a two race progression. She loves the surface, distance and track which adds to her appeal. This gal should be tracking the pace closely ready to spring.

#4 Crimson Feline (Graham / C. Richards) should be able to compete well with the fourth highest last out speed number and a two race progression. She a specialist over the track and distance. She should be tracking the pace seeking to sprout in the stretch.

#5 Catherine's Dream (Beschizza / Mouton) should be in the mix with a dull effort over the turf last out, but solid efforts over the dirt. She fits in this field well with the third highest speed number at the distance and three superb peaking workouts. Another tracker that should be part of the quickening crew coming into the turn.

Our Bronze Horseshoe selection, Midnight Crossing [IRE], finished 2nd for show money of $8.00.
Bankroll gains a buck and change to settle at $243.04.

Superfecta Sunday at Santa Anita

We check out the Santa Anita Turf on this Superfecta Sunday.

Santa Anita Park Race 8 {Santa Ana~G2~1 1/8 mile~TURF~4 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~Graded Stakes}

A reduced field of eight will strut to the gate in this annual affair. There is enough speed to create a decent pace. Speed numbers are very close making this any gal's race. the race becomes even more intriguing as the sole scratch, #2 Fault won the Santa Margarita yesterday. This running of the Santa Ana should not only be exciting, but profitable for the horseplayer. Our task is to knit together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#1 Madam Dancealot [IRE] (Nakatani / Baltas) might have a slight edge with the second highest last out speed number and three quality peaking workouts. She loves the Turf and sports a 100% in the money record at this distance from two efforts. A daughter of Sir Prancealot [IRE], she should track and close gracefully.

#8 Midnight Crossing [IRE] (Blanc / Baltas) comes back from a little foray on the Gulfstream Park Turf. She holds the fourth highest last out speed number and three hearty peaking workouts. This gal has already won over the Santa Anita course in her only effort. A daughter of Dark Angel [IRE], she could be forwardly placed ready to strike in the stretch. She is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#3 Laseen [IRE] (Desormeaux / Cassidy) will challenge with the third highest (3-way tie) last out speed number at a longer route and one quality workout. She enjoys the distance, having hit the board in all four attempts, and the Santa Anita course. A daughter of Dylan Thomas [IRE], she is another that will track and close swiftly.

#9 Sassy Little Lila (Prat / Mandella) has the capability of wiring this field if left loose on the lead. She holds the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three strong peaking workouts. This daughter of Artie Schiller relishes the distance and the Santa Anita course.

Superfecta went 11-5-9-6.
Bankroll sheds a couple of Jefferson's to settle at $241.44.

Horse Racing Weekend Begins at Oaklawn

Nice horse racing weather in Hot Springs, Arkansas for the start of our horse racing weekend. Cloudy, humid and temps near 60 degrees should be good for the first race.

Oaklawn Park Race 1 {6 furlongs~3 year-old Up~fillies/mares~Waiver Maiden Claiming}
A good crop of eight will go to the gate in the first offering on the card. There is enough speed in this one to keep an honest pace. All of the speed figs are relatively comparable. It should be a good race to start our horse racing weekend.

#1A Love Takes Flight [ONT-C] (Hamilton / Milligen) might enjoy the Arkansas dirt after an extended layoff. Her first two starts were over the beautiful Turf course up at Woodbine. She holds the highest last out speed number, is working a two race progression, and has put in two superb peaking workouts. Expect her to sit right off the pace and enter the straight with flourish.
$2 SHOW.

#4 Wickedly Sweet (Bridgmohan / Hobby) could go off as the favorite and deservedly so. She holds the third highest last out speed number and has put in one sound workout. She is consistently in the money.  Today could be the day she breaks through. This gal should be motoring on the front end ready to score.

#2 Status (Santana / Asmussen) should contend with the second highest last out speed number, a five race progression, and three excellent peaking workouts. She could be pressing or tracking a strong pace. This gal will be coming into this off a brief freshening.

#6 Misty Journey (L. Quinonez / Von Hemel) should be in the mix with a couple of o.k. last out speed numbers, a two race progression, and three hearty peaking workouts. She could possibly sent, using her speed against these rivals. She does have the second highest speed number at the distance.

Santa Anita Superfecta Sunday

Today is NCAA Basketball selection Sunday, but more importantly it is our Superfecta Sunday. On to Santa Anita for the Santa Ana on the Turf.

Santa Anita Park Race 7 {Santa Ana~G2~1 1/8 mile~TURF~4 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~Graded Stakes}
A hotly contested field of eleven will hit the Turf in this featured stakes race. Lack of speed could make this race an interesting and most challenging effort. Speed numbers over the Turf and at the distance reflect parity. Our task is to mold a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#4 Diversy Harbor (Stevens / Proctor) should be the deserved favorite with the highest last out speed number, a seven race progression, and two solid peaking workouts. She absolutely loves the Santa Anita Turf course displaying a 100% in the money record from eight starts. Provided there is some pace up front, she is definitely the one to beat.

#3 Hoop of Colour (Van Dyke / Motion) should provide a reasonable pace on the front end as she makes her second North American start. This gal is 80% in the money over Turf in five career starts. She posts a decent last out winning speed number at a longer route, a two race progression, and two hearty peaking workouts. It is possible that she could wire the field. She is our Bronze Horseshoe runner.

#9 Indecise (Prat / Mandella) will be stretching out to this distance after posting the second highest speed number in a downhill Turf effort. She is working a three race progression and has put in three endurance producing workouts. This gal should track the leaders closely and strike in the stretch.

#11 Lady of Gold (Desormeaux / Motion) should challenge with the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number at a longer Turf route, a two race progression, and three sturdy workouts. She should be tracking and closing efficiently.

Oaklawn Park R10.  Rebel--G2.  Our first pick, American Pharoah, won (1st) for win money of $2.80 and show money of $3.30.  Our second pick, Madefromlucky, finished 2nd for show money of $2.80.  Our third pick, Bold Conquest, finished 3rd for show money of $2.80.
We picked up a minor win on our 10 CENT Superfecta of $2.45 Superfecta went 4-2-5-1.
Bankroll shoots back up to $23.85.

Horse Racing Weekend Begins in Hot Springs

To start off out horse racing weekend we begin with a nice route race down in Arkansas.

Oaklawn Park Race 8 {1 1/16 mile~4 year old Up~fillies/mares~Optional Claiming}
A great group of nine ladies will make the start in this feature.  There is plenty of speed which should make for a fast pace.  All have comparable speed numbers and all but one are dropping in class for this one. It should be a terrific race.

#3 Gold Medal Dancer (Quinonez / Von Hemel) should have a slight edge with the second highest last out speed number and four superior workouts.  This gal should be forwardly placed ready to take on all challengers.
$2 SHOW.

#8 Soft Whisper (Thompson / Vance) will challenge with the fourth highest last out speed number and one bullet workout.  She too should be forwardly placed gearing for position.  She shows the highest speed number on the Oaklawn track.
$2 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#2 Interest Free (Ocampo / Howard) should contend with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three premium workouts.  She is also 100% in the money in six career starts.

#4 Dreamin Big (Torres / Lauer) could be in the mix with the third highest last out speed number and one laudable workout.  She is a specialist at this distance and should be tracking and closing willingly.

Superfecta Sunday at Santa Anita

It's Superfecta Sunday already and we take a look at a nifty little race in Southern California.


Santa Anita Park Race 7 {Santa Ana Stakes~G2~1 1/8 mile~4 year old Up~fillies/mares}
A sharp field of seven will take to the grass in this featured graded stakes event. There is enough speed in here to render a solid pace. It is possible that the ladies that run from off the pace could have a slight advantage. It is our task to stitch together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.


#3 Emotional Kitten (Espinoza / Ward) could have a slight edge with a hot pace.  She holds the third highest last out speed number, a nine race progression, and four superior peaking workouts. This lass could run very well off an extended layoff.  She is our Bronze Horseshoe runner.

#2 Stormy Lucy (Bejarano / Lucarelli) is another that could benefit from a fast pace with a couple of very nice last out speed numbers and two superb peaking workouts.  She should be kicking it home swiftly.


#6 Emollient (Smith / Mott) should be forwardly placed with a strong speed advantage.  She too is coming off an extended layoff securing the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and four excellent peaking workouts.


#4 Topic (Nakatani / Drysdale) should be part of the closing crew with a couple of decent last out speed numbers and three hearty workouts.  She is also coming off an extended layoff and should be firing fresh.

Thursday Turf at Santa Anita

Thursday springs a nice Turf race at glorious Santa Anita to open up our horse racing weekend.

Santa Anita Race 7 {1 1/8 mile~TURF~4 year old Up~Allowance}
A terrific group of eight will slide into the gate for this long Turf route.  There are a couple who enjoy to be forwardly placed and the rest like to track or close from off the pace.  It promises to be an enjoyable race.

#4 Holladay Road (Gomez / Canani) looks supreme with the highest last out speed number at a longer route, a three race progression, and two stout workouts.  He should close well in the final stretch.
$2 SHOW.

#6 Massone (Talamo / Yakteen) will challenge with the third highest (tie) last out speed number coming out of a grade one race and one modest workout.  He does hold the highest speed number at this distance.  He should join in the closing battle.
$2 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#3 Tippety Tap Tap (Flores / Gallagher) should be in the hunt sharing the third highest last out speed number, holding a four race progression, and putting in three superb peaking workouts.  He could surprise with a clean tracking trip.

#5 Hurricane Lake (Quinonez / Garcia) could also be in the mix with the second highest (tie) last out speed number, a four race progression, and two robust workouts.  He is another who would love to track and go.

Superfecta Sunday, Santa Anita Take Five

We spring into Superfecta Sunday with at highly competitive Turf race at splendid Santa Anita.

Santa Anita Race 7 {Santa Ana~G2~1 1/8 mile~4 year Up~Fillies/Mares~Stakes}
A talented group of eleven gals will strut onto the green for this extremely competitive distance TURF race.  A large group of forwardly placed and an equally large group of tracker/closers will square off in what could appear as a Euro-style race.  The big challenge is to cobble together our top four, making our 10 CENT Superfecta Box ticket.

#2 Cambina [IRE] (Gomez / Bonde) appears to be in fine form with the third highest (5-way tie) last out speed number, sharing the second highest speed number at the distance, and putting in three speedy workouts.  She is a pure closer that could finish these others off with the right trip.

#11 City to City (Nakatani / Hollendorfer) is the deserved favorite with the highest (tie) last out speed number, a five race progression, and four well stacked, peaking workouts.  She should join in the quickening heading into the final stretch.

#9 Bauble Queen (Talamo / Kruljac) looks ready to run a great race sharing the third highest last out speed number, has scored a win at this distance in her only try, and has put in three excellent, peaking workouts.  She is our bronze horseshoe selection.

#10 Andina [IRE] (Espinoza / Cecil) looks strong enough to make it in to the top four with the fourth highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and four strong, peaking workouts.  She could find herself forwardly placed ready to gear up in the final stretch.
