Route at the Jersey Shore

Closing out our horse racing weekend we journey to the Jersey shore for one of the great summer stakes races, the Haskell Invitational.

Monmouth Park Race 12 {Haskell Invitational~G1~1 1/8 mile~3 year old~Stakes}
This is a pure horse race.  Any one of these fellas are capable of winning this race.  Eight go to the gate.  Of those eight, seven are triple crown nominees.  This will be an exciting as race you will see this summer.  The Preakness winner, Shackleford is here as is the Belmont Stakes winner, Ruler On Ice.  Extremely high quality is evident throughout the field.

#1 Coil (M. Garcia / Baffert) looks well prepped to take this race with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three bullet workouts.  He should be pressing the pace seeking to get first jump on the leaders in the stretch.
$2 SHOW.

#8 Astrology (Leparoux / Asmussen) will challenge from the outside post with the second highest speed number over the surface and four superior, peaking workouts.  Toss out his last in the cornfields of Iowa in that states Derby.  He should be ready to join the pressers and battle for the victory.

#5 Shackleford (Castanon / Romans) will be the front running favorite with the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number at a longer route and three stellar workouts.  Should he control the pace favorably, he could hold off the pressers for a nice win.

#3 Pants On Fire (Trujillo / Breen) looks tuned nicely for this race with the third highest last out speed number (a victory over the Monmouth track), a two race progression, and two robust workouts.  Could surprise.

Saratoga Saturday

With so many summer stakes races around the country this weekend, we will take a look at the Jim Dandy at the Spa.

Saratoga Race 10 {Jim Dandy~G2~1 1/8 mile~3 year old~Stakes}
Four triple crown nominees make their start in this race in addition to three vastly improving three year olds.  It will be a very fine race.  A very nice blend of running styles will make the race an exciting one to wager and watch.

#7 Alternation (Dominguez / Von Hemel) looks rested and strong with the fourth highest last out speed number, a six race progression (improvement in each of his six races), and four tremendous, peaking workouts.  He should close well.
$1 WIN / SHOW.

#6 Stay Thirsty (Castellano / Pletcher) will challenge with the highest last out speed number over a longer route, a three race progression, and three superb workouts.  This guy loves the Saratoga course and should track the pace favorably.
$1 PLACE / SHOW.

#2 Dominus (J. Velazquez / Asmussen) will share front running duties and could hold off any challengers.  He holds the second highest last out speed number, a spectacular nine race progression, and three robust, peaking workouts.  He could wire the field.

#5 Will's Wildcat (Albarado / Baker) could surprise sharing the highest speed number over a dirt surface and putting in two solid, peaking workouts.  He should also motor on the front end endeavoring to hold on for a piece of the purse pie.

A Del Mar Friday

Another fantastic Friday where we look at a wonderful marathon at Del Mar.

Del Mar Race 7 {Cougar II~G3~1 1/2 mile~3 year old Up~Stakes}
A dynamic group of eight will line up for this annual.  It appears to have a nice balance of running styles.  One has gone this distance and one has run a distance just shy of it.  Both should be considered contenders.

#5 Times Gone By (Bejarano / Mitchell) looks to be sitting on a big race with a couple of decent last out speed numbers, a three race progression, and two athletic workouts.  He is a lover of Del Mar and holds the second highest speed number over the surface.
$2 SHOW.

#6 Dahoud [NZ] is the only one who hax traveled this distance and appears ready to challenge.  He has the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and five solid workouts.
$2 SHOW.

#1 Bourbon Bay (Talamo /Drysdale) will strike from the pressing position with the third highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three serious workouts.  Could win this one.

Saratoga Time

For the start of our horse racing weekend we take a look at a nice allowance race at that very special place, Saratoga.

Saratoga Race 9 {1 1/8 mile~3 year old Up~fillies/mares~Allowance}
A great group of eight will venture to the gate.  This race has relative parity as each gal could pull off the victory.  Only one has gone this distance, but that was eight months ago.  There does not seem to be much speed at all.  It should be noted that there is a nice differentiation in workout tabs.

#5 Kinda Spicy (J. Velazquez / Albertrani) appears ramped up to make a second good effort in her career.  She holds the second highest last out speed number at a route, her only race, and has put in a superb four peaking workout tab.  She could be forwardly placed.
$1 WIN / $2 SHOW.

#2 Hot Danger (Castro / Contessa) looks geared for a strong race with a couple of decent last speed numbers and three strong, peaking workouts.  Another that will be forwardly placed and ready to get first jump in the stretch.

#6 R Gypsy Gold (Castellano / Pletcher) will move up another 110 yards in distance from her last outing which she earned the highest speed number among this field.  She has put in two steady workouts.

#7 Believe in A.P. (Dominguez / R. Dutrow) is the only gal that has raced at this distance, albeit approximately 240 months ago.  She looks ready with four robust workouts.  Clearly she will be a contender.

Sunday Turf at Del Mar

We close our horse racing weekend with look at a tremendous Turf race at beautiful Del Mar.

Del Mar Race 8 {San Clemente~G2~1 mile~Turf~3 year old Fillies~Stakes}
A stunning group of ten fillies will line up for this annual graded stakes race.  There is not a lot of speed in the race, but should be at least three front running types that will share front end duties.  None of these gals has ever raced at Del Mar.  From that respect they are all on equal footing.  This should be a smashing race to watch.

#5 Sarah's Secret (Flores / Walsh) will no doubt be the favorite in this race with the highest last out speed number at a longer route, a four race progression (all wins), and three sensational workouts.  All of these combine to give her quite an edge over this talented field.
$2 WIN.

#1 Up In Time [GB] (Bejarano / Callaghan) will challenge in a tracking position with the second highest last out speed number off a longer route, a three race progression, and four robust workouts.  She should be ready to strike at the turn into the stretch.

#8 Rosehill Dew [IRE] (Blanc / McAnally) looks well spotted for this race with the highest speed number at the distance, a 100% in the money record over three races at the distance, and three hearty workouts.  If there is a solid pace, she should close well.

#2 Celestial Kitten (Rosario / Cecil) holds the third highest speed number at the distance, is coming off a longer route, and has put in two energetic, peaking workouts.  She could surprise with a good closing finish.

Saratoga Turf

A relaxing, though somewhat hot Saturday.  We turn our attention to the sensational Saratoga Turf.

Saratoga Race 6 {1 1/16 mile~Turf~3 year old Up~Allowance}
A good field of eleven will make their start in a very competitive allowance feature.  The race appears evenly divided between forwardly placed types and late running types.  Should be a dandy Saratoga Turf run.

#6 Tahoe Lake [BRZ] (J. Velazquez / McPeek) looks primed and ready to win this one.  He has the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two strong workouts.  This guy should be tracking the pace ready to scoot away to victory.
$1 WIN / SHOW.

#4 Rubber Duck [GER] (Castro / Mott) will be making his first North American start, but has had a nice career racing in Germany.  He has improved his placing in each of his last three races and has put in four stellar workouts after a brief layoff.  Cannot count him out.

#2 Pretty Boy Freud (Sanchez / O'Brien) looks ready to run with the highest speed number at the distance, a couple of decent last out speed numbers, and one solid workout.  He is the only one in the field that has raced over the Saratoga Turf and raced well.

Saratoga Two Year Olds

A beautiful day for the start of the Saratoga meet.  Today we look at two year old fillies.

Saratoga Race 9 {Schuylerville Stakes~G3~6 furlongs~2 year old~fillies}
A talented field of eight juveniles will make the start.  The race appears evenly distributed between the speedsters, pressers, trackers, and closers.  Could their be a superstar in the making?

#6 Gypsy Rose (Sanchez / Ward) is coming to the Spa after racing in England.  She ran a decent race their after winning her maiden at Keeneland at first asking.  She has put in three solid works.  She will show speed and could wire this field.
$2 SHOW.

#9 Georgie's Angel (J. Velazquez / Pletcher) has the highest last out speed number in her only race which she won.  She has put in two robust, peaking workouts.  This speedy gal could share front end duties and turn on the afterburners upon entering the stretch.

#2 Five Star Momma (Solis / Dickey) should mount a nice pressing attack.  She has the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and one strong workout.

Turf and Surf is Calling

The horse racing weekend begins.  Delightful Del Mar calls us to have some fun where the Turf meets the surf.  Today we look at some California gals ready to take to the Turf at the legendary race track.

Classic Turf at Hollywood Park

Today is the closing day of the Hollywood Park meet.  We look at the marathon Turf battle at this legendary race track to close out our horse racing weekend.

Hollywood Park Race 8 {Sunset Handicap~G3~1 1/2 mile~Turf~3 year old Up~Stakes}
It appears that this will be the most equally matched race of the Hollywood Park meet.  A couple of speedsters are ready to take the field out on a classic journey over the Turf.  Either could hold on to get the win.  Without equivocation, any one of this field of eight could win this race.  We have to go with those that have been tested at this distance.

#5 Falcon Rock [IRE] (Gomez / Callaghan) appears ready to pop a good one before a much needed rest.  He has been consistant this year, but hasn't had that one great race.  Could this be the one?  He has had a couple of decent last out speed numbers and is showing two peaking workouts.  The only runner in the group that is 100% in the money at this distance over six races.  He will be tracking the leaders.
$2 SHOW.

#9 Ashtar [CHI] (Pedroza / Gardenas)  looks promising with a very robust, peaking tab of five outstanding workouts.  He is coming off a five-month layoff after winning a group 1 race at this distance in his native Chile.  He is proven at this distance.  Have to take a flyer on him.

Virginia is for Turf Lovers

We are deep into a beautiful Turf summer.  Many exciting Turf races are sure to come.  Today we look at a couple of dandies at magnificent Colonial Downs.

An extremely competitive field of eight will go to the gate.  All of these gals have been well prepped for this race.  The race is a little light on speed.  Consequently, we will probably see some serious quickening in the turn closing for home.  It should be exciting.

#4 Dynamic Holiday (Leparoux / Motion) has the edge with the second highest last out speed number, a five race progression, and three robust workouts.  This gal will track closely and could prevail at the wire.

#8 Excited (J. Velazquez / Pletcher) will challenge with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and one stout workout.  She should press the pace and get first jump in the stretch.

#8 Crimson China (Leparoux / Motion) could surprise this field with the second highest last out speed number, a six race progression, and three superb, peaking workouts.  This guy is ready, rested, and able to close well for the victory.

#4 Street Game (Prado / Serpe) looks ready to back up his highest speed number of the group also with a six race progression and two fierce, peaking workouts.  He should track the pace ready to strike in the stretch.

Today, on this sunny Friday, we look at a cool Turf sprint along the Jersey shore at Monmouth Park.

A lively little Turf sprint featuring eight will take place along the sweet Jersey shore.  This race will have all running styles represented and should be contested at a swift pace.

Arlington Park Turfday v.2

It will be a very pleasant day in the Chicago area for an Arlington Park race on the Turf. 

The Arlington Million is only a month a way.  Excitement builds for that featured race as well as the Turf packed undercard.

Arlington Park Race 5 {1 mile~Turf~3 year old Up~fillies/mares~Claiming}
A nicely balanced field of nine will make the start in this one.  A couple of speedsters should make for an honest pace in which the rest can aim for the forwardly placed.

#6 Here Oui Go Again (Santana / Pessin) could be the one to beat with the highest (tie) last out speed number over a longer route, a six race progression, and four superb workouts.  She is the most experienced runner in the group and loves this distance.

#9 Ginny's Classic (Lantz / R. Sherer) holds the second highest (tie) speed number at the distance as well as over the AP Turf.  She has a couple of solid workouts.  She should be part of the speed and could hold on for a piece.

#8 You're too Wild (Castanon / Miller) could surprise coming off a longer route with a comparatively decent last out speed number, a two race progression, and two excellent workouts.  She will mount a closing effort.

#2 Cherokee Lord (Felix / Livesay) is coming off an extended layoff.  Prior to the layoff he had a far superior last out speed number and a three race progression.  He has put in a two bullet workout prepping for this race.  He should be ready to set the pace for potential victory.

Today we look at the highly competitive Hollywood Gold Cup.

A tremendous field of eight goes to the gate in this annual stakes race.  There appears to be not much speed.  Look forward to a strategically run race.

Summer Night Racing

On a beautiful summer Friday night we take a look at a splendid stakes race at Presque Isle Downs.

A very nice field of eight will make their start on the Tapeta synthetic surface.  Good balance of speed, trackers and closers will make this race a good wagering event.

#6 A.P. Ridge (Vega / Sheppard) looks ready to run a good race with the fourth highest last out speed number, two wins at this distance, and three sensational five furlong workouts.  He will be making a strong effort to close down this good field.

#1 Ryan's Gift (Spieth / Ferraro) will be right up on the speed hoping to capture the lead and subsequent victory.  He holds the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and one decent workout.  He should be right there at the finish.

With the Arlington Million fast approaching (August 13, 2011), its time to sharpen the Turf handicapping skills.  On this glorious Thursday there are five Turf races carded.  We will take a look at one.

#4 A She's Adorable (Graham / Stidham) is coming off close to a year long layoff.  She holds the highest speed number at the distance, had a four race progression going prior to the layoff, and has put in three wonderful, peaking workouts.  She could fire fresh to win.

#3 Viva Vino (Razo / Amoss) will challenge with the third highest last out speed number and four fabulous, peaking workouts.  She appears ready to roll for a share.

Sweet Home, Chicago.

To cap off a splendid horse racing weekend we return to one of the most beautiful horse racing facilities in the world, magnificent Arlington Park.

Brace yourself, there are always surprises over the Arlington Park poly-track surface.  This comes up as a extra high quality competitive race.  Any one of these gals can make her way into the winners circle.  The race is well balanced in running styles and most in here are poly-monsters.

#8 Hot Hot Mama (Graham / Corder) appears to have a slight edge with the highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and three excellent, peaking workouts.  Jockey, James Graham is always in the zone for the big races.  That gives this gal a great chance for victory.

#5 Devil By Design (Nakatani / Mott) will bring on a mighty challenge coming of an extended layoff, but has fired well by winning off a similar layoff.  She holds the highest speed number at the distance and has put in a wickedly good, peaking workout tab.  Should track the pace ready to strike in the stretch.

#6 Lookn Even Finer (Napravnik / Stidham) looks ready to fire another great seven furlong effort as she has done over the Keeneland poly-track.  She has a two race progression with two o.k. last out speed numbers and she holds the fourth highest speed number at the distance.  A speedster that could hold-on for a piece of the purse pie.  She could be the big surprise.

Summer Stakes Saturday

Welcome to the heart of Summer.  Some of the greatest Turf racing stakes competition occurs during these awesome summer months.  Today we look at two of the best stakes races over the July 4th weekend.  One at Monmouth Park and another at Hollywood Park.  Bring on the Summer Stakes action.

Monmouth Park Race 11 {United Nations~G1~1 3/8 mile~Turf~3 year old Up~Stakes}
An exceptionally high quality of ten graded stakes racers make their start in this annual summer race.  Equal parts of speed, pressers, trackers, and closers makes this race the one to watch.  Watch the Euro invaders as they attempt to make some hay in the U.S.

#9 Chinchon [IRE] (Gomez / Laffon-parias) should be the betting favorite as he sets hoof in America to defend his title in the race.  A top caliber jet setter, this guy looks prime and ready to tackle this group.  He has the highest speed number at the distance; earning the triple digit in last years race. Clearly the one to beat.

#7 Stacelita [FR] (Bravo / Rouget) is one of two mares in the race and she is a good one.  Racing in France against the likes of Goldikova and Sea The Stars, she will be tough.  This gal has a splendid record over the French Turf with a 79% in the money record.  She might be overlooked, but will surprise.

#2 Bourbon Bay (A. Garcia / Drysdale) should be forwardly placed ready to strike in the stretch.  He has the third highest (tie) last out speed number and three stamina inducing workouts.  Looks ready to compete at a high level.

#1 Courageous Cat (Valenzuela / Mott) is the one to beat with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two athletic workouts.  Should make a pressing attack.

#6 Victor's Cry (V. Espinoza / Harty) will challenge with the second highest last out speed number at a longer route and four fantastic, peaking workouts.  He will come a running late looking for the wire.

Oh Canada Day for a classic race at a classic distance we go.  Today we look at the Domminion Day stakes race at Woodbine.

A great race with a outstanding group of eleven expected to make the start.  It appears to be evenly divided between the forwardly placed and those that like to close well.  This will be an exciting race.

#3 Southdale (Wilson / Black) appears to have a slight edge with the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number,  a two race progression, and two well-built, peaking workouts.  Should be positioned to get first jump on the front-enders.

#8 Stately Victor (Lebron / Maker) will challenge mightily with a couple of decent last out efforts, a two race progression, and four outstanding workouts.  He should launch a strong closing effort.
