Big Sandy in September

Let's take a gander at a great distance Turf contest at wide open Belmont Park.

Belmont Park Race 9 {Bowling Green~G2~1 3/8 mile~inner Turf~3 year old Up~Stakes}
A true field of seven Turfers line up for this event.  Some of the top Turf trainers in the country converge with their contenders to notch another win.  In this strongly competitive field any one of these Turferscan emerge as the victor.

#7 Grassy (Gomez / Clement) looks much the best with the second highest last out speed number, the highest speed number at this distance, and one solid workout.  He could be near the front end ready to launch a kick in the stretch.

#4 Bold Hawk (J. Espinoza / Toner) will challenge tracking the pace with the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and three hearty workouts.  He also holds the second highest speed number at the distance.

#3 Sanagas [GER] (Maragh / Motion) could close down this field with the highest last out speed number at a longer route, a two race progression, and one quality workout.  It would come as no surprise if this guy wins.

Another Del Mar Sunday

For this beautiful Sunday and the close of our horse racing weekend, we look at a nice graded stakes race featuring the girls at Del Mar.

Del Mar Race 3 {Rancho Bernardo~G3~6 1/2 furlongs~3 year old Up~Stakes}
A quality Sunday seven horse field will gallop to the gate.  All appear to have put in some fine workouts over the thirty days.  It will be a challenging race that any of these could sprint to victory.

#5 Irish Gypsy (M. Garcia / Baffert) may have a slight edge with a terrific record on the surface, a couple of decent last out speed numbers, and two strong peaking workouts.  She can track the pace and sprint to the wire in the stretch.
$2 SHOW.

#7 Jet Blue Girl (Blanc / Eurton) will challenge with the second highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three superb workouts.  Watch this gal firing well in the stretch.

#6 Tanda (Talamo / Mitchell) will also challenge with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three quality workouts.  She is another that will track the pace looking for a seam to cut through.

Saratoga R10.  Alabama. Our first pick, Inglorious, finished 6th (last).  Our second pick, Plum Pretty, finished 4th.  Our third pick, Royal Delta, won (1st) for show money of $4.50.

Northlands Park R11. Canadian Derby.  Our first pick, Inhisglory, finished 4th.  Our second pick, Freedoms Traveller, won (1st) for show money of $4.40.
Northlands Park does not offer a 10 CENT Superfecta.
Bankroll takes a licking but keeps on ticking at $21.00.

Saratoga Stakes Action

A significant Saturday for Saratoga Stakes Action.  Today we look at a race at the spectacular "Spa".

Saratoga Race 10 {Whitney Invitational~G1~1 1/8 mile~3 year old Up~Stakes}
This will be a superlative handicapping venture.  It would come as no surprise if any one of this field of eleven pulls off the victory.  All are members of the triple digit speed number club.  This is what horse racing is all about.

Considering our current budget level, we will take advantage of the one dollar show bet that is available at Saratoga (and other NYRA tracks).  A beautiful thing for budget conscience handicappers.

#7 Rail Trip (Dominguez / R. Dutrow) looks tremendously prepped for this race with the second highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and four athletically peaking workouts.  He should press the attack and get first jump on the field.
$1 SHOW.

#2 Friend Or Foe (Lezcano / Kimmel) looks ready to battle in the stretch sharing the second highest last out speed number and putting in the best workout tab, taking to the track with four well-built, peaking workouts.  Should also press the attack ready to strike.

#5 Tizway (Maragh / Bond) will be coming off a freshening as most in this field are.  He posted the highest (tie) last out speed number, has a two race progression going, and has put in three robust, peaking workouts.  Another who will press readying for the stretch run.
$1 SHOW.

#1 Flat Out (Solis / Dickey) looks powerful enough to close down the field sharing the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two stout workouts.  This quick closers will challenge the forwardly placed.

#4 Giant Oak (Bridgmohan / Block) can surprise this field if the pace heats up given the large number of runners settling on the front end.  He has posted a couple of decent last out speed numbers, holds a two race progression, and has put in three smokin', peaking workouts.  Look for a deep close from this lumbering fellow.

Wow Dudes, Hollywood

Today we look at the highly competitive Hollywood Gold Cup.

Hollywood Park Race 8 {Hollywood Gold Cup~G1~1 1/4 mile~3 year old Up~Stakes}
A tremendous field of eight goes to the gate in this annual stakes race.  There appears to be not much speed.  Look forward to a strategically run race.

#3 Setsuko (Espinoza / Mandella) has a micro-edge with the second highest last out speed number and three stellar, peaking workouts.  He will track whichever horse takes the lead and make his move in the turn heading for the stretch.

#1 Twirling Candy (Rosario / Sadler) will provide a powerful challenge with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three endurance producing workouts.  Look for him near the front end ready to strike.

#4 Game On Dude (Sutherland / Baffert) will be forwardly placed looking for the victory with the third highest last out speed number and four spectacular workouts.  He could hold on well at this distance.

Beautiful Belmont

A great stakes Saturday shapes up today.  Belmont Park is the venue where we land for some superb stakes action.

Belmont Park Race 9 {Mother Goose~G1~1 1/16 mile~3 year old~fillies~Stakes}
A fantastic field of seven will line up for this one at the "Big Sandy".  An even mix of the forwardly placed and those that like to come from off the pace.  Should be an exciting finish.

#4 Joyful Victory (Dominguez / Jones) has the edge with the second highest (tie) last out speed number at a longer route, a five race progression, and three solid workouts.  She looks ready to chalk up another victory.
$2 WIN.

#5 Busters Ready (J. Velazquez / Pletcher) will challenge with the highest last out speed number at a longer route, a three race progression, and three mighty workouts.  She will launch a pressing attack.
$1 PLACE / SHOW.

#2 Salty Strike (Cruz / McPeek) looks ready for a strong performance sharing the second highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and one strong workout.  She looks to track the pace and make a go of it in the stretch.

Hollywood Hoo Rah

Stakes Saturday is a day to relax and take in some exceptional horse racing.  Today we view a strong grade one at Hollywood Park.

A tremendous field of six gals will make their start in this great race over the synthetic surface.  For a small field, it is evenly balanced with varying running styles.  A most exciting race will unfold.

#4 Switch (Rosario / Sadler) will be the co-favorite in here with a powerful last out speed number, a two race progression, and four spectacular workouts.  She will be in a strong battle to pull off the victory with her pressing style.
No Value.

#6 Blind Luck (Gomez / Hollendorfer) will share as favorite.  She is a special gal finishing 100% in the money so far in her nineteen race career.  She holds the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number and has posted five serious, peaking workouts.  Will close well into a solid pace.

#3 American Story (M. Garcia / Baffert) looks well prepped to stretch out.  She will motor on the front end controlling the pace with the third highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and two fast, furious workouts.  She could hold on for show honors.

Belmont Stakes Day

It is here.  The final leg of the Triple Crown, the Belmont Stakes.

Belmont Park Race 11 {Belmont Stakes~G1~1 1/2 mile~3 year old~Stakes}
A star-studded field of twelve will make the start in this great race.  Eight horses in the field ran in the Kentucky Derby and four had run in the Preakness.  It will be an exhilarating race.

#1 Master of Hounds (Gomez / O'Brien) is fresh, ready, willing and able.  We have to admit we are hound dogs.  Yes, he was our pick in the Kentucky Derby.  He returns to the United States to make another run for the victory.  He holds the fourth (tie) highest last out speed number and European style training may bring this guy to a peak performance for this race.
$1 WIN / $2 SHOW.

#9 Animal Kingdom (J. Velazquez / Motion) is the real deal and make eke out a victory at this "marathon" distance.  He has the second highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and one bullet workout.  He will be closing swiftly on the leaders.

#6 Nehro (Nakatani / Asmussen) will be firing fresh with the second highest (tie) last out speed number, a five race progression, and three superb, peaking workouts.  Another who will be closing quickly seeking the cure for his seconditis.

Relishing the Sun on Saturday

Today we look at two great stakes races in the sunny climes of Florida and California.

A talented compact field of seven will make the start in this annual stakes race.  Rule (Castellano / Pletcher) looks like the one to beat despite coming off an extensive layoff.  He has two wins for two races at the distance and four fantastic workouts in preparation.  Soaring Empire (Lezcano / Gambolati) will challenge with the highest last out speed number and three superb workouts.  Morning Line (J. Velazquez / Zito) will also challenge with the fourth highest last out speed number and three stellar, peaking workouts.  Caixa Electronica (Saez / Chapparro) will be in the mix with the second highest (tie) last out speed number and one strong workout.  Let's play beautiful Gulfstream Park.

A small field of a half-dozen will go to the gate.  Aggie Engineer (Talamo / Gallagher) appears to be the one to beat with the highest last out speed number at a longer distance and three terrific workouts.  He will be the controlling speed in the race.  Spurrier (Bejarano / Baffert) will be the chief challenger with the second highest last out speed number at a longer route, a two race progression, and three robust workouts.  Dakota Phone (Rosario / Hollendorfer) will be in the mix with the third highest last out speed number at a longer route and three athletic workers.  Quindici Man (Valenzuela / Lewis) is a consistent sort that will be in there for a piece of the purse with the fourth highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and one sinewy workout.  Let's play a good race at Santa Anita.
