Horse Racing Weekend begins in Warm Florida

We begin our horse racing weekend viewing a nice Turf mile down in warm and sunny Florida.

Gulfstream Park Race 7 {1 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~Claiming}

A very nice race with a full field of twelve taking to the green. There is enough speed to maintain a honest pace. Speed numbers are relatively close which will make for a very competitive contest. It should be a great race on a terrific Thursday.

#5 Holy Scat (Castellano / Cibelli) might have the edge with the second highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and one sound workout. She should be capable of tracking the pace closely and spring into the stretch striding for the victory.

A very competitive group of nine will hustle off to the gate in this feature event. There is some speed to keep a fluid pace. Speed numbers stack right up against one another. It should be a very exciting race. Our task is to sew together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#7 Light One (Van Dyke / Hollendorfer) might have a micron of an edge with a dud of a down hill Turf sprint last out, but a very sweet effort up at Golden Gate two starts back and four fantastic peaking workouts. She should race keenly close to the pace ready to strike in the stretch. She is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#9 Sheer Pleasure (Garcia / D'Amato) should challenge with the fourth highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three snappy workouts. She comes out of a longer route and should be forwardly placed.

#5 Tiz a Kiss (Desormeaux / Baltas) should contend with a couple of solid last out speed numbers and one strong bullet workout. She has a 100% in the money record at this distance sharing the highest speed number at same. This gal should close vibrantly into a sharp pace.

#4 Melanistic (T. Baze / Baltas) should be in the hunt with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three hearty workouts. She enjoys the Santa Anita track as well as this distance having hit the board eleven of her twenty starts at this mile route.

Stakes Saturday in New Orleans

A wonderful card of Stakes races at the Fair Grounds down in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Fair Grounds Race 10 {Louisiana Derby~G2~1 1/8 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A talented group of ten Kentucky Derby aspirants will saunter up to the gate in this historic race. There is some speed to keep the pace rolling. All in here are Triple Crown nominees, but only one has gone this distance. Speed numbers are with digits of one another making for a highly competitive event. It should be the best race of the day.

#1 Gun Runner (Geroux / Asmussen) should take another step forward on the KD trail. He holds the highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and four superb peaking workouts. This guy should track the pace and launch quickly into the stretch. A son of Candy Ride [ARG], he has already won over the track.

#3 Battery (Castellano / Pletcher) is another that should show improvement as the only one to run and win at this distance. He holds a couple of decent last out speed numbers, a two race progression, and three stout workouts. A son of Bernardini, he should be close to the pace seeking to make his move.

#5 Candy My Boy (Torres / Bruggemann) should challenge with the third highest last out speed number, a five race progression, and three dynamite peaking workouts. He loves the Fair Grounds track and will be seeking his third victory over it. Another son of Candy Ride [ARG], he should be the speed of the race looking for a wire job.

On this Good Furlong  Friday we take a look at a fine New York sprint.

Aqueduct Race 8 {6 furlongs~3year-old~NY~Allowance Optional Claiming}

A talented group of eight will go to the gate in this contentious sprint feature. There is plenty of speed to maintain a honest pace. Speed numbers appear to be fairly close to keep a fiercely close race. These New York breds will provide an level of excitement on this Furlong Friday.

#4 Lucky Lurie (Alvarado / Hennig) should be one of the favorites with the highest last out speed number and a three race progression. He also holds the highest speed number at the distance combined with a 100% in the money record at same. This lad will be tracking the pace closely.

Horse Racing Weekend begins in New Orleans

We begin our horse racing weekend with a terrific Louisiana route down in New Orleans.  A great weekend of racing is on tap as we head into the Louisiana Derby and the Dubai World Cup races on Saturday.

Fair Grounds Race 2 {1 mile 70 yards~4 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~LA~Optional Claiming}

A short field of six will go to the gate in this Louisiana bred route. There is plenty of speed to produce a quick pace. Speed numbers are fairly close for these ladies. It should be a fantastic little race.

#6 Glamoride (Geroux / Pish) might benefit from a speedy pace with the third highest last out speed number and three sound workouts. She is coming into the race with a modest freshening ready to track the pace. This gal holds the highest speed number at the distance.

#5 Gold Medalist (Jaramillo / Nevin) is coming off a modest layoff after competing in the tough New York circuit. She posts a couple of decent speed numbers in her two career starts and has put in four strong peaking workouts in preparation of returning to racing. A highly talented field of ten will go to the gate in this featured Graded Stakes race. There is an abundance of speed which if not harnessed could result in a pace melt-down. Furlong Friday begins Our Horse Racing Weekend

On this Furlong Friday we look in on a terrific race on an all weather track.

Turfway Park Race 3 {6 furlongs~3 year-old Up~Maiden Claiming}

A full field of twelve will hoof it over the polytrack in this maiden contest. It comes up a little light on speed. Speed numbers are fairly comparable with one first time starter in the race. It is a challenging race with many of these thoroughbreds keying up for improvement.

#11 Rumlad (Goncalves / Ward) is the first time starter in the race. A son of English Channel, he has put in four superb workouts prepping for this race. Trainer Wesley Ward is excellent at bringing out horses for their first start.

#1 Serbian Syclone (F. Perez / P. Miller) might have a slight edge with the highest last out speed number and three sound workouts. He is coming off a freshening and reports as a first time gelding. He should share leadership duties. This lad is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

We have not posted since last Stakes Saturday due to technical difficulties.

Today we look at a great Turf race in that other city by the bay.

Tampa Bay Downs {Florida Oaks~G3~1 1/16 mile~TURF~3 year-old~Fillies~Graded Stakes}

A talented group of thirteen fillies will hit the grass in this annual event. There is some speed signed on to maintain an honest pace. Speed numbers are relatively close making for a competitive Turf contest. It should be a terrific race.

#4 Ava's Kitten ( I Ortiz / C. Brown) should pull off the victory with the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and three hearty workouts. She is coming off a modest layoff and should fire fresh. A daughter of the great Turf sire, Kitten's Joy, she should be forwardly placed able to get first jump on the leader going into the stretch.

#13 Baciami Princess [GB] (Leparoux / Lynch) will be making her first North American start after competing very well in France and Italy. A very nice field of seven will gallop out to the starting gate in this annual Derby prep race. There is some speed to make for an honest pace. Speed numbers are fairly close with many in here ready to take another step forward. All but one in the field are Triple Crown nominees. It should be a terrific race.

#6 Conquest Big E (J. Ortiz / Casse) could move forward in an upset. He holds the third highest last out speed number and has put in three superb peaking workouts. A son of Tapit, he should be tracking the pace ready to strike.

Thank goodness it is Furlong Friday. Today we look at a nice sprint down in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Oaklawn Park Race 1 {6 furlongs~3 year-old Up~AR~Claiming}

A good crew of eight will go to the gate in the first race on the card. There is a plethora of speed to induce a heated pace. Speed numbers are relatively close. All but one of these lads are making a class drop into this race. It should be a fine sprint in good ol' Hot Springs.

#8 Our Doc Tanner (Vazquez / Cates) might have the edge with the second highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and two stout workouts. This guy loves the distance as well as the track having gone 100% in the money for both. He should be forwardly placed ready to make a winning move.

On this Thursday, we begin our horse racing weekend in Arcadia, California.

A very nice field of eight will go to the green in this afternoon feature. There is virtually no speed with only a few that might take the pace by default. Speed numbers are fairly close with a few that will be stretching out to this distance for the first time. It should be a real handicapping challenge.

#8 Awesome Return (Talamo / Puype) should be ready to make an improvement with the highest speed number at the distance and three superior peaking workouts. This lad enjoys the surface and loves the Santa Anita course. He should be tracking the pace ready to strike going into the stretch.
