Stakes Saturday in Hot Springs

 We check in on an exciting stakes race down in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Oaklawn Park Race 8 {Pippen Stakes~1 mile~4 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~Stakes}

A talented field of twelve will go to the gate in this mile stakes race.

There is a plethora of speedy and forwardly placed types in this event. Speed figs are fairly close for all of these gals. All but one will be firing fresh off of modest layoffs. It should be a great race as the Oaklawn season gets started.

#1 Vault (Geroux / B. Cox) comes off an extended layoff with three powerful workouts. She holds the highest speed number of the group over the Oaklawn oval. This gal should be tracking what could be a heated pace ready to strike. A daughter of Jump Start, she is 70% in the money from seventeen career starts.

#9 Regal Beauty (M. Garcia / Calhoun) should challenge as she has tripled up on her speed figure in her last three races and has put in two stellar workouts. Like many in here, she relishes this distance. Look for her to be tracking the pace closely. A daughter of Malibu Moon, she is 77% in the money from nine career starts.

#6 Istan Council (Talamo / L. Jones) will contend with the second highest last out speed number at a longer route and two strong workouts. This gal has it the board all four times she has gone this distance. Another that should be tracking the pace closely. A daughter of Istan, she is 55% in the money from eighteen career starts.

#7 Wicked Whisper (Santana / Asmussen) is another that will figure prominently with a win at this distance in her only start at same and three stout workouts. Compared to the others in the race, she is lightly raced. A daughter of Liam's Map, she is 57% in the money from seven career starts.

Santa Anita Park R7.  Astra Stakes--G3.  We cashed on our 10 CENT Superfecta Box ticket scoring a nice sum of $68.41.  Superfecta went 8-5-3-6.

Our Bronze Horseshoe runner, Hermaphrodite [FR], finished 2nd for show money of $3.20.

Bankroll moves above the Franklin line to settle at $127.03.

A Santa Anita Superfecta Sunday

 We go to the West Coast to take in a stellar Turf race at a classic distance.

Santa Anita Park Race 7 {Astra Stakes~G3~1 1/2 mile~TURF~4 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~Graded Stakes}

An excellent field of nine will take to the green in this graded affair.

Past Performances used:  DRF Formulator.

There is sufficient speed among this group to keep a decent pace rolling. Speed numbers are extremely close making it any of these gals race to win. All have raced over the Santa Anita Turf, but only two have raced at this distance. Our task is to stream together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket. It should be an awesome race.

#5 Hermaphrodite [FR] (Rosario / Sadler) will be making her third start of the form cycle as well as her third North American start. She holds a couple of good last out speed numbers and has turned in two superb peaking workouts. This gal is 100% in the money at this distance while racing in France. A daughter of Le Havre [IRE], she should be tracking the pace ready to strike. She is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

$2 SHOW.

#3 Altea [FR] (Cedillo / McCarthy) is in fine form with the second highest last out speed number and one solid workout. This gal will be stretching out to this distance. A daughter of Siyouni [FR], she is 58% in the money from twenty-four starts.

#6 Lucky Peridot (J. Hernandez / Miller) should challenge with the third highest (tie) last out speed number and three hearty workouts. She is another that will be stretching out. A daughter of Itsmyluckyday, she is 68% in the money from nineteen career starts.

#8 Quick [GB] (Rispoli / Sadler) should be in the mix with the highest last out speed number and four top-notch workouts. This gal is 100% in the money at four starts over the Santa Anita Turf. A daughter of Olympic Glory [IRE], she should be forwardly placed and get first jump on the leader.

Fair Grounds Race Course R13.  LeComte--G3.  Our first pick, Midnight Bourbon, won (1st) for win money of $4.70, place money of $5.20, and show money of $4.50.  Our second pick, Mandaloun, finished 3rd for show money of $2.40.  Our third pick, Proxy, finished 2nd for show money of $3.60.  Our fourth pick, Game Day Play, finished 6th.

We hit our Exacta Wheel for a nice of $33.00.  Superfecta went 1-4-10-7.

Bankroll gets a rise to $59.82.

Yielding TURF for Stakes Saturday

On this Stakes Saturday, the horses take to the yielding Turf in South Florida.

Gulfstream Park Race 11 {Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational~G1~1 3/16 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~Graded Stakes}

A superior field of ten will take to the Turf in this inaugural big money race. Four millionaires are part of the field as well as three ladies. Speed figs are very close making it anyone's race. There is a couple of speedsters who could take the field through decent early fractions. It could turn into a Euro-style race with a superb quickening heading into the stretch. Be ready for a fantastic race.

#7 Bricks and Mortar (I. Ortiz / C. Brown) looks ready to kick off the year with a stylish win. He holds the highest (three-way tie) last out speed number and three sensational workouts. A son of versatile sire, Giants Causeway, he should be in a tracking position much like the rest of the field. This lad is 100% in the money from seven starts.
$1 WIN  /  $2 PLACE  /  $3 SHOW.

#9 Catapult (Rosario / Sadler) should challenge sharing the highest last out speed number and putting in four excellent peaking workouts. He comes in fresh with a reasonable layoff. A son of Kitten's Joy, he too will be tracking the pace. This guy is 68% in the money from sixteen starts.

#2 Yoshida (J. Ortiz / Mott) will contend also with the highest last out speed number at a longer dirt route and four terrific workouts. He should be tracking and closing with vigor. A millionaire son of Hearts Cry [JPN], he is the most versatile horse in the field winning on Turf and dirt. He is 66% in the money from twelve starts.

#1 Magic Wand [IRE] (Lorden / A O'Brien) is one of three fillies challenging the lads. She holds the second highest last out speed number at a longer Turf route. A sensation across the pond, this will be her second North American start for outstanding world class connections. A daughter of Galileo [IRE], she should hold a strong tracking position ready to launch.

Long on Turf for Superfecta Sunday

On this Superfecta Sunday we take a look at a long Turf race in Southern California.

Santa Anita Park Race 8 {Astra~G3~1 1/2 mile~TURF~4 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~Graded Stakes}

A nice field of nine will hit the green in this annual affair. There is plenty of speed to maintain a swift pace. Speed numbers are very close making it any of these ladies race. It should be one of the most exciting races on the card. Our task is to string together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#5 Plein Air [IRE] (Van Dyke / Baffert) comes in from an extended layoff looking for the victory. She has the highest speed number at this distance coupled with two wins from three starts. She could be controlling pace. A vigorous, peaking four work tab adds to her luster. This miss is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.
$2 SHOW.

#9 India Mantuana (T. Baze / Bell) should challenge from a forwardly placed position. She holds the highest (tie) last out speed number and four powerful workouts. This gal is 50% in the money from twenty-four starts. She appears to be in good form and ready to stretch out for the distance.

#8 K P Pergolicious [IRE] (Smith / Mullins) should contend having placed second last out against much tougher. She holds the second highest last out speed number and two hearty workouts. She loves the surface and the Santa Anita course. A strong pace will give her the advantage heading into the stretch.

#10 Pantsonfire [IRE] (Prat / Baltas) will be in the mix particularly with a swift pace. She holds the second highest (tie) pace at the distance and is one of three to compete at this marathon distance. A fine workout tab of four works gives her a little boost. She is 85% in the money over the Santa Anita course from seven tries.

Superfecta went 8-6-13-1.
Bankroll gets smashed, falling to $80.51.

Horse Racing Weekend begins in Florida

We start off our horse racing weekend by taking in a sweet Maiden Turf mile race down in warm Florida.

Gulfstream Park Race 2 {1 mile~TURF~3 year-old~fillies~FL~Maiden Special Weight}

A good crop of ten gals will hit the green in this early on the card Maiden Special Weight race. Speed appears to be on the inside with the rest tracking whatever pace develops. A couple first time starters make the race all the more intriguing. Speed numbers for these developing gals are fairly close making for a superbly competitive event.

#10 Determined Lady (Panici / Fawkes) might have the edge with the highest last out speed number and a five race progression. She is 80% in the money from five starts including being in the money both times going this distance. She should be tracking the pace ready to strike going into the stretch.

#1 Lupo's Way (R. Hernandez / Morici) should challenge with the second highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three strong peaking workouts. #9 Warranty (Castellano / C. Brown) is a first time starter that has the potential to take this one with a powerful jockey / trainer combination. She has put in three robust workouts preparing for her maiden run. Trainer Chad Brown has a 21% win rate with his first timers.

#3 Leroids Mommie (P. Lopez / Cibelli) should contend with the fourth highest last out speed number at a longer route, a three race progression, and one fine workout. She is 66% in the money from three starts. This young lady is another that will be tracking the pace.
