Stakes Saturday Turf

On this Stakes Saturday we look in on a neat little Turf race down in New Orleans.

Fair Grounds Race 9 {Black Gold Stakes~7 1/2 furlongs~TURF~3 year-old~Stakes}
A solid group of nine will take to the grass in this featured stakes race. There is enough speed to maintain a willing pace. A few in this one will be making their Turf debut which makes the race all the more interesting. Four members of this cast are Triple Crown nominees. In terms of speed numbers, the group is fairly close to each other in overall speed. It should be an exciting race.

#9 Another Lemon Drop (Graham / Bauer) might have the edge with the highest last out speed number at a route and three stellar peaking workouts. This son of Lemon Drop Kid will be looking for some serious pace to close into. He holds the highest speed number of the group over the Turf.

#7 Fusiachi Flame (Eramia / Geher) should challenge with the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number at a route and three strong peaking workouts. As a son of Fusaichi Pegasus, he has significant versatility to his running style which should fit into whatever pace scenario develops. This guy has already captured a victory at this distance.

#5 Fly Friendly Sky (Geroux / S. Flint) will contend with the third highest last out speed number at a shorter Turf sprint, a two race progression, and two hearty workouts. This son of Sky Mesa should sit right of the pace and get first jump in the stretch. He holds a victory over the Fair Grounds Turf.

#6 Bourbon Cowboy (Mena / R. Scherer) should be in the hunt with the second highest last out speed number and three solid workouts. He will be stretching and hitting the Turf for the first time. This son of Cowboy Cal has done well over the synthetic and should transition nicely to Turf. He should be tracking the pace looking for an opening coming into the stretch.

#1 Two Step Temper (Torres / Maker) should be in the hunt sharing the third highest last out speed number, working a two race progression, and putting in two stout workouts. This son of Two Step Salsa will be closing swiftly.

Going Long on Santa Anita Turf

Thank goodness for Friday. Thank goodness for Turf in sunny Southern California.

Santa Anita Race 7 {1 1/4 mile~TURF~4 year-old Up~Optional Claiming}
A great group of nine will take to the grass in this longer Turf contest.  There is plenty of speed signed up which should ensure a scorching pace. Most have not yet gone this distance and one has gone longer. It should be a great contest.

#8 Bailout Bobby (Trujillo / O'Neill) might have a very slight edge with the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number and two superb peaking workouts. He has traveled this distance, albeit over synthetic. This lad could surprise with a swift closing kick.
$2 SHOW.

#7 Awesome Return (Smith / Puype) should contend with the highest (tie) last out speed number, a four race progression, and two athletic workouts. He will be stretching out to this distance for the first time. This lad loves the Santa Anita Turf achieving an 80% in the money effort in five tries. Look for him to close down this bunch.

#4 Diamond Bachelor (Pedroza / Biancone) should be able to challenge with the highest last out speed number, a five race progression, and two stout workouts. He also holds the highest speed number at the distance. He has a versatile running style that may suit him well in this race.

#1 Joe's Blazing Aaron (T. Baze / Mullins) should be in the mix with the second highest last out speed number and four incredible workouts. He will be motoring on the front end and with the solid workout tab, should be able to hold on as the closers mount their attack.

Horse Racing Weekend begins on the Turf

We venture to the City of New Orleans for an early Turf contest.

Fair Grounds Race 4 {1 1/16 mile~TURF~4 year-old Up~fillies/mares~Optional Claiming}
A good group of seven gals will hit the green in this early Turf contest. There is some speed to keep an honest pace. These gals all have very close speed numbers which should make for a highly competitive race.

#5 More Than Less (Albarado / Asmussen) could have the edge with the highest (tie) last out speed number and a two race progression. She also holds the third highest speed number at the distance. This gal loves the Turf and should be tracking the lead group ready to strike.

#1 Cali Star (Torres / Cohn) looks to challenge while switching over to the Turf. She shares the highest last out speed number and is working a two race progression.  This gal holds the highest in the money record at 70%. Look for her to track and strut into the stretch.

Superfecta Sunday at Santa Anita

Back from a very brief Friday and Saturday respite, we look at a highly competitive Turf battle at gorgeous Santa Anita.

Santa Anita Park Race 6 {1 mile~TURF~3 year-old~Optional Claiming}
A great field of eight will take to the green in the only Turf battle of the day. There is plenty of speed to give this race a solid pace. All are relatively close in terms of speed numbers. Those coming from off the pace may have the advantage. Our task is to cobble a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#8 Broughton Kitten (M. Garcia / Ward) looks to have the edge with the third highest speed number coming out of a longer route and two fine workouts. He shares the highest speed number at the distance. Watch him close smoothly into the stretch.

#3 Daddy D.T. (Talamo / Sadler) will challenge with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and four stellar workouts. He will assume a tracking position seeking to pass the lead group. He is 75% in the money at the distance.

#7 Iancool (Van Dyke / Hollendorfer) is a Triple Crown nominee going to the Turf for the first time. He has won at this distance over the dirt and will attempt to transfer that form to the Turf. His workout tab is among the best yielding for supercharged works. Look for him to stay closer to the pace getting first jump on those coming from off the pace. He is our Bronze Horseshoe runner.

#1 Royal Albert Hall [GB] (Prat / O'Neill) may surprise in his first North American start. He comes in from a successful racing start across the pond. He will also be making his first Turf start after going 80% in the money over the synthetic. This lad should be right off the leaders ready to pounce.

Our horse racing weekend begins on the Turf in fabulous New Orleans.

A good field of eight will take to the green in this Maiden Claiming race. It comes up short on speed. The field is fairly close in terms of overall speed numbers. This is a highly competitive event.

#6 Linda's Choice (Geroux / D. Carroll) might have a slight edge with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and four superb workouts. She should be part of the tracking crew seeking to score. This gal loves the Fair Grounds turf.

#5 Romance in Vegas (Murrill / Alonzo) should present a formidable challenge with the fourth highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three hearty peaking workouts. She comes into this from Delta Downs after a brief layoff.

Superfecta Sunday in Sunny Florida

As winter drags on in some parts of the country, we take a look at a fabulous Turf race in South Florida. Its fun to watch the races in the sunny climes and wish you were there.

Gulfstream Park Race 9 {7 1/2 furlongs~TURF~4 year old Up~Allowance Optional Claiming}
A great crew of eleven will hit the TURF in this allowance feature.  There is plenty of speed to keep a flowing pace. All in here have reasonably close last out speed numbers which will make it a wide open affair. Our task is to string together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#5 Ginger Goose [GB] (R. Hernandez / Broome) might have the edge with the fourth highest last out speed number and a five race progression. Of this group, he holds the fourth highest speed number at the distance with a 60% in the money record from five tries. He appears to be a very good form.

#11 Delta Bluesman (Castellano / Navarro) will challenge with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three bullet, peaking workouts. This lad is coming into the race fresh from a brief layoff. He should be forwardly placed seeking to triumph. He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#4 Black Jet (Contreras / Iadisernia) should contend with a couple of decent last out speed numbers in which he landed in the money. He is holding a three race progression and has put in two superb peaking workouts. He will be stretching out to this distance and will be forwardly placed.

#7 Cashmere Cat (Lanerie / Romans) will be in the mix with a couple of decent last out speed numbers prior to a brief layoff.  He was working a two race progression and has put in two hearty workouts in preparation. On the basis of having the second highest speed number at the distance and securing a 100% in the money record at same, he will be a threat.

Derby Preps Away on Stakes Saturday

On this Stakes Saturday, we take a look at a grand stakes race in Northern California.

Golden Gate Fields Race 7 {El Camino Real Derby~G3~1 1/8 mile~3 year-old~Stakes}
A great group of ten will check in for the start of this feature stakes race. This one has Kentucky Derby points at stake. The field appears equally matched in terms of speed numbers and capability. There is enough speed to keep a constant pace. It should be an exciting race any of these fellas could pull off the victory.

#5 Cross the Line (J. Hernandez / Hollendorfer) could pull this one off with the third highest (tie) last out speed number, a four race progression, and four stellar, peaking workouts. This son of Line of David has the tactical speed to either be forwardly placed or just sit off the pace. In his short career of four races he is 100% in the money.

#9 Conquest Typhoon (Smith / Casse) should give chase, sharing that third highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three superlative workouts. He is another with solid tactical speed. This son of Stormy Atlantic will be stretching out to this distance. He has already proven himself over the Tapeta surface.

Thank goodness it's Furlong Friday. Today we take a look at a nice six furlong battle on the dirt.

#5 Captain Genius (Ocampo / Young) might have the edge with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two steady workouts. He shares the highest speed number at the distance and the second highest over the Oaklawn track.

A solid group of eight will take to the Turf in this maiden race. The race comes up a little light on speed, but the speed numbers are all relatively comparable. It should be a highly competitive affair.

#3 Egyptian Empire (Van Dyke / Dollase) might have a slight edge with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three strengthening workouts. She loves the Turf demonstrated by her 100% in the money record over it. This gal will be tracking the pace closely ready to strike.

Superfecta Sunday rides up on us yet again. Today we look at an interesting down hill Turf contest at beautiful Santa Anita.

A fabulous group of nine gals will go to the grass in this feature stakes race. There is enough speed to keep an honest pace. The speed numbers look remarkably close which gives any of these gals to regale in the winners circle. Our task is to knit together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#5 Fanticola (M. Garcia / D'Amato) may have the edge with the second highest (3-way tie) last out speed number at a mile route, a two race progression, and three superb workouts. This gal enjoys the distance and the course with a 100% in the money record for both. She is our Bronze Horseshoe runner.

#9 Birdlover [GB] (Trujillo / O'Neill) should challenge despite coming off an one year layoff. Prior to the extended layoff she was working a five race progression and shared that second highest last out speed number. This gal has put in two solid workouts in preparation. As another lover of the course and the distance, she was last seen placing second in a similar downhill Turf event.

#3 Sky Treasure (Nakatani / Casse) should contend with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two fine workouts. This gal also holds the highest speed number at the distance. She should be tracking the pace readying for the stretch run.

#1 Indecise (Prat / Mandella) should be in the mix after a lengthy one year layoff. Prior to the layoff she also posted the second highest last out speed number.  She was working a two race progression and has put in the sincerest workout tab of four works that included a couple of bullets.

Today we take in a graded Turf race in Southern California.

Santa Anita Race 7 {San Marcos~G2~1 1/4 mile~4 year-old Up~Graded Stakes}
A stellar group of eight will take to the green in this feature race. The lone speed, Little Jerry, could have his way with the group if left loose on the lead. The speed numbers are fairly close which leaves an opening for one of these fellas who travels close to the leader. It should be a great and exciting race.

#2 Patrioticandproud (Van Dyke / Casse) could get the job done with the second highest last out speed number, a six race progression, and three dynamic workouts. This son of Proud Citizen should track the pace closely and strike in the stretch.

#4 Power Ped (Prat / Drysdale) should challenge with the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number and three robust workouts. Furlong Friday at Fair Grounds

Thank goodness its Furlong Friday. We take a look at a fine Louisiana sprint.

A decent group of seven will venture to the gate in this mid-card contest. Lots of speed will keep a contested pace. These lads speed figures come up very close to one another making for a terrific race.

#3 Malachite (Graham / Roussel) is coming off an extended layoff, but appears well prepped. He holds the second highest speed number at the distance. His last outing was good, giving him the third highest speed number. Prior to the layoff he was working a two race progression. This lad has put in two solid peaking workouts for the comeback.

Gulfstream Maidens Kick off the Horse Racing Weekend

A nice maiden sprint starts our horse racing weekend.

Gulfstream Park Race 8 {6 furlongs~3 year old~Maiden Claiming}
A enterprising group of eight will go to the gate. It appears to be light on speed with only a couple that could be forwardly placed. There are a couple of first time starters in this one which should have an impact. Interesting race, nice wagering challenge.

#8 Mach My Day (Lopez / Plesa) might take the win at first asking. This first time starter is a son of Mach Ride. He has posted a couple of nice works prepping for this race. This lad has the connections that could make it happen.
$2 SHOW.

#4 Titotime (Contreras / Maltine) is coming down from Woodbine to challenge these lads. He holds the third highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two strong peaking workouts. He should be able to track the pace closely and then spring into action.
