Thursday at Thistledown

On a pleasant Thursday in the great state of Ohio, we take a look at a nice sprint race at Thistledown.  A wonderful warm-up to an exciting horse racing weekend.

Thistledown Race 8 {6 furlongs~3 year old Up~fillies/mares~Allowance}
A unique group of eight will go to the gate for this allowance feature.  Plenty of speed will keep the pace fluid.  There are a few trackers in the race which should make things interesting if the pace heats up.

#7 Zippin Along (Banda / Cosine) has a pressing/tracking running style that she can use to great benefit.  She holds the highest last out speed number and a two race progression.  This gal has run well over the Thistledown track.
$2 SHOW.

#5 Orica's Luck (H. Rosario / Tsirigolis) will challenge with the third highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and one good workout.  She has the tactical speed to stay close to the front or if the pace heats up back off a little on the throttle and zoom through the stretch.
$2 SHOW.

#2 Uh Oh Hereshecomes (Seabury / Rini) should be in the hunt with the second highest (tie) last out speed number and a three race progression.  She can be expected to hang back off the pace and push through the stretch.

#8 Danzig Scorpion (De La Cruz / Kamerski) could be in the mix sharing the second highest last out speed number and holding a two race progression.  She could be forwardly placed hoping to hold off those coming from behind.

Superfecta Sunday at Churchill Downs

As Churchill Downs opens up for its Fall meet, we look at a great stakes race for the youngsters to satisfy our 10 CENTSuperfecta yearning.

Churchill Downs Race 8 {Pocahontas~G2~1 mile~2 year old~Fillies~Stakes}
An extremely talented field of eight will make the start in this annual stakes race for the young gals.  This is a group of high octane speedsters, so the race could open up for one sitting off the pace, but close up.  It should be an exciting race.  Let's give it a try in an attempt to group a winning 10 CENT Superfecta Box ticket.

#7 Cloudy Vow (Bridgmohan / Hamm) looks like she will rise to the occasion with the fourth highest (3-way tie) last out speed number at a longer route, a two race progression, and three superb workouts.  She will be making the switch from synthetic to dirt.  This gal is our Bronze Horsehoe runner.
$2 SHOW.

#4 Danalake (Leparoux / Pletcher) will challenge with her tactical speed.  She has produced the third highest last out speed number at a longer dirt route, a two race progression, and two sturdy workouts.

#6 Sign (Napravnik / Stall) will be stretching out in distance in her second career start.  She is coming off a sixty day freshening.  This gal has the highest last out speed number and has put in four striking, peaking workouts.  With a pressing attack, she appears ready to move forward.

#1 Seasoned Warrior (Rosario / Mott) should be in the mix as she too stretches out from a sprint to a route.  She holds the second highest speed number over the surface and has put in two strong workouts.  A pressing / tracking running style should benefit her.

Stakes Saturday at Keeneland

As we await the Breeder's Cup Championships next weekend we turn to closing day at beautiful Keeneland for our Stakes Saturday handicapping.

Keeneland Race 9 {Fayette~G2~1 1/8 mile~3 year old Up~Stakes}
A talented field of eleven will venture onto the Polytrack for this annual stakes feature.  The race comes up a little light on speed which may benefit the front running types.  A very close group on speed numbers alone, makes this one a very good wagering race.

#8 Middie (Court / P. Oliver) has the ability to best this field with the third highest (tie) last out speed number and one strong workout over the Keeneland polytrack.  This guy holds the highest speed number at the distance to go along with two victories at same.  He could track the pacesetters and make his move into the turn.
$1 WIN / $2 SHOW.

#3 Nikki's Sandcastle (Goncalves / Kassen) will be a strong challenger with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three sturdy workouts over the Keeneland surface.  He should take on a tracking role and swoop into the battle around the turn.
$1 PLACE / $1 SHOW.

#6 Salto [IRE] (Napravnik / Pletcher) will also challenge with the second highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and two stout workouts over the Keeneland poly.  He is another that should track the pace and strike in the stretch.
$1 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#7 Golden Yank (Bridgmohan / Thomas) should enjoin the battle sharing the third highest last out speed number and holding a three race progression.  He has the second highest speed number at the distance and has done well over the synthetic surface.  Look for him to close should the pace heat up.

#2 Photo Shoot (Spieth / Cheeks) could be the surprise in this one with an incredible 88% in the money record on synthetic tracks over nine starts.  He ran decently in his last out finishing 4th in a Keeneland allowance race and has put in two solid workouts over the track.  Another who could potentially track and close well.

Keeneland Race 8 {Dixianna Breeders Futurity~G1~1 1/16 mile~2 year olds~Stakes}
Another full bodied field of fourteen will saunter to the gate.  This race appears equally divided among the forwardly placed and those coming from off the pace.  It is stacked with talented youngsters and will be a good one.

#11 Balance the Books (Leparoux / C. Brown) has a slight edge with the second highest last out speed number which happened to be at this distance.  He is working a two race progression and has put in two diligent workouts.  Should there be a rapid pace, this guy could close them down.
