Pennsylvania Derby Day

 Another great Stakes Saturday unfolds as we look at another Derby for our racing action.

PARX Race 14 {Pennsylvania Derby~G1~1 1/8 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A talented field of ten will go to the gate in this annual contest.

Past Performances used:  Equibase.

Plenty of speed in this field will create a hot pace. Speed figs are fairly close. Only three have raced over the Parx track. One millionaire makes an appearance. Three will stretch out to the distance for the first time. All appeared to be well prepped for good performances. It should be a fantastically competitive race.

#7 Further Ado (Prat / B. Cox) is the deserved favorite with a good last out speed number and four dynamite workouts. He should track the pace closely and strike in the stretch. This guy holds the highest speed number at the distance and has chalked up four career wins. A millionaire son of Gun Runner, he is 66% in the money from nine starts.

#6 The Puma (Castellano / Delgado) will pose a mighty challenge with the highest (tie) last out speed number at a longer route and two superb peaking workouts. This guy will run in the tracker pack and pounce in the stretch. A son of Essential Quality, he is 66% in the money from six starts.

#9 Sassmaster (Gaffalione / Pletcher) will be seeking his third win in a row with the second highest last out speed number and four durable workouts. He will be part of the tracker pack. This guy has the second highest speed number at the distance. A son of Curlin, he holds a 66%-win rate from three starts.

#2 Iron Honor (J. Ortiz / C. Brown) comes in with the third highest last out speed number and four consistent workouts. He has improved his speed figs in each of his last three races. Pennsylvania Derby Day

 We look in on the great card at Parx today and key in on the PA Derby.

PARX Race 14 {Pennsylvania Derby~G1~1 1/8 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A very talented field of ten will go to the gate in this annual event.

Past Performances used:  Equibase.

Significant speed turns up this race which should produce a sizzling pace. Sped figs are fairly close. Only one has raced over the Parx track. Three will stretch out to the distance for the first time. All are quite competent over the dirt. Eight of the ten have posted at least one triple digit speed number. It should be a very good race on a great day of racing.

#6 Goal Oriented (I. Ortiz / Baffert) looks primed and ready to run a big race. He holds the second highest (tie) last speed number and three stamina producing workouts. He enjoys the dirt and distance. This guy has the tactical speed to adjust to the pace and run on. A son of Not This Time, he is 75% in the money from four starts.

All Eyes on Pennsylvania

 On this Stakes Saturday we turn to the Keystone State for a superb Pennsylvania Derby.

PARX {Pennsylvania Derby~G1~1 1/8 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A grand field of eleven will go to the gate in this annual contest.

Past Performances used:  DRF Formulator.

There is plenty of speed in this one to formulate a sizzling pace. Speed figs are fairly close with only one horse hitting a triple digit Beyer. One millionaire makes an appearance along with a couple near the cusp of that milestone. Only three have raced over the Parx oval. All are experienced at the distance. It should be one of the best races on a card stocked full of good races.

#8 Unmatched Wisdom (Prat / C. Brown) holds the highest speed number at the distance and has two stout workouts. He should be forwardly placed near the pace ready to spring into the stretch. It will be his first race over the Parx track. A son of Cairo Prince, he has a 75% win rate from four starts.

#11 Stronghold (Fresu / D'Amato) comes in from Indy with the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number and four strong peaking workouts. #7 Dragoon Guard (Geroux / B. Cox) is the deserved favorite with the highest (tie) last out speed number and four powerful workouts. Superfecta Sunday Shootout in OK

Off we go to, Oklahoma where the horses come sweeping into the stretch.

A fantastic field of eleven will go to the gate in this annual contest. There is enough speed to maintain an honorable pace. Speed numbers are close to assure an evenly matched race. Our task is to create a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#6 Secret Passage (Geroux / Von Hemel) appears to be getting good at the right time with a couple of good last out speed numbers, a three race progression, and three superb workouts. This lad should track the pace among the second pack and explode into the stretch. He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#11 Seeking Blame (B. Hernandez / Stewart) should challenge with a couple of decent last out speed numbers, a three race progression, and three quality workouts. With the right pace this guy should be closing gallantly.

Stakes Saturday in Pennsylvania

Today we take in a much anticipated graded stakes race for three year-olds.

Parx {Pennsylvania Derby~G2~{1 1/8 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A field of twelve of the best 3 year-olds in the country will compete for the $1,250,000 purse. There is plenty of speed and forwardly placed types to insure a fast pace. Speed numbers are all very close among these talented horses. It should be the best race of the day.

#9 Nyquist (Gutierrez / O'Neill) should redeem himself in this race with the fourth highest (4-way tie) last out speed number and four endurance producing workouts. This guy should be able race right up the near the pace and breakaway in the stretch. A millionaire son of Uncle Mo, he holds the highest in the money record of 90% from ten starts.
$2 WIN  /  $3 PLACE  /  $5 SHOW.

#7 Gun Runner (Geroux / Asmussen) should present a mighty challenge with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three stout peaking workouts. Sunny Superfecta Sunday at Belmont

Warm sun will fall upon the equine athletes as they stride along the Turf at bountiful Belmont on this Superfecta Sunday.

A splendid group of nine will hit the green in this claiming feature. There is enough forwardly placed times to keep the pace honest. Speed numbers are relatively close which makes for a competitive event. Our task is to string together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#4 Relentless Ride (Carmouche / Lawrence) might have an edge with solid tactical speed, the third highest (tie) last out speed number at a longer route, and the second highest speed number at the distance. A beautiful Stakes Saturday across the country. Today we take a look at a graded one at good old Parx.

A talented field of nine will enter the gate in this annual Derby.  There is a fair amount of speed to keep an honest pace. Speed numbers are comparable.  There are three millionaires in this field which makes it a significant event. A great race should unfold.

#3 Frosted (Rosario / McLaughlin) should be in the drivers seat for the win. He holds the highest last out speed number at a longer route, a two race progression, and two superb peaking workouts. This distance is right in his wheel house having secured a 100% in the money record from three tries. This son of Tapit should travel close to the pace and then launch into the stretch.

#9 Upstart (I. Ortiz / Violette) should be the main challenger with the second highest last out speed number at a longer route, a three race progression, and two tremendous workouts. He too is 100% in the money at this distance. This son of Flatter should track the pace ready to strike in the stretch.

Superfecta Sunday at Fairplex Park

It's Superfecta Sunday, already??  We take a peek at a fine dirt route at Fairplex for our Sunday enjoyment.

Fairplex Park Race 11 {Ralph M. Hinds Handicap~1 1/8 mile~3 year old Up~Stakes}
A good field of eight horses will make their start in this 100k Stakes race.  The field is evenly distributed among all the running styles which gives no edge to a single one.  Let's give it a shot crafting our 10 CENT Superfecta box.

#7 Norvsky (Talamo / Warren) looks to be the horse to beat with the highest (tie) last out speed number, a four race progression, and two athletic workouts.  He also holds the highest speed number over the Fairplex track and the highest speed number at the distance.  He will be our bronze horseshoe runner.
$2 SHOW.

#3 Quindici Man (Gryder / Lewis) is a veteran racer making his second start of the year.  His last out was decent over the synthetic, but it is the dirt, the distance, and the Fairplex track that he loves.  He has put in three stout workouts prepping for this race.  He should pose a mighty challenge in the stretch.

#8 Juniper Pass (M. Garcia / Bell) could surprise making his first start over the dirt.  He is a turf specialist that loves the longer distance routes.  This guy is coming off a longer route and has put in three robust, peaking workouts.

#6 Worth Repeating (Pedroza / Machovsky) looks ready to ride this surface again.  He shares the highest last out speed number at a longer turf route.  This son of Giant's Causeway also shares the second highest speed number over the surface resulting in a win.  Expect him to be forwardly placed ready to strike.
