Final Superfecta Sunday of 2012

We look at the final Superfecta Sunday of the year at magnificent Santa Anita.

Santa Anita Race 8 {Robert J. Frankel~G3~1 1/8 mile~TURF~3 year old Up~fillies/mares~Stakes}
A field of nine gracious ladies line up this tribute to the great Southern California trainer.  Contrary to what the odds gods have conjured up for the morning line, this one is a bugger of a handicapping challenge.  Hopefully the weather holds favorably and this one stays on the TURF.  Any one of the gals could win it.  There is enough of the forwardly placed to keep the pace sharp.  With the clear majority of the horses coming off a short layoff, it could come down to last out speed plus works.  Let's give our final effort of the year to plot a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#8 More Chocolate (Gomez / Sadler) could surprise with the second highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two strengthening workouts.  She has the tactical speed to stay close to the pace and swoop on through in the stretch.  She is our bronze horseshoe selection.
$2 SHOW.

#2 Halo Dolly (Talamo / Hollendorfer) will challenge with the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and four superb workouts which include two bullets.  She can be expected to be part of the forwardly placed group.

#9 Tiz Flirtatious (Bejarano / M. Jones) should be a top contender with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression covering her three race career, and three endurance workouts.  She will come closing fast with a solid pace.

#3 Qaraaba [GB] (Leparoux / Callaghan) will enjoin the battle with the third highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three robust workouts.  She should be prepped for a solid closing.

Sweet Home, Hawthorne

We open our first full December horse racing weekend by taking in a good allowance race at Chicago's Hawthorne Race course.

Hawthorne Race Course Race 3 {6 1/2 furlongs~3 year old Up~fillies/mares~IL~Allowance}
A great group of nine will take to the Hawthorne dirt.  Short on speed for a sprint, but there will a good contingent of forwardly placed runners.  Most have campaigned all year long with short freshening's which could allow a fresh horse to compete well in this talented field.

#8 Beauty of Scarlet (Martinez / Bruggemann) will fire fresh coming off a maiden win.  She holds the third highest last out speed number and a two race progression in two career races,  In both of her two career starts she has been in the money.  This gal could press her way to victory.
$2 SHOW.

#1 Saint Indeed (Canchari / J. Smith) will challenge with the third highest speed number over the surface and four robust workouts.  She is coming off an extended layoff and could fire fresh. This gal has already notched a win over the Hawthorne course, last Spring.

Superfecta Sunday at Gulfstream

Gulfstream Park Race 8 {Sunshine State~7 furlongs~3 year old Up~FL bred~Stakes}
A good crop of nine Florida breds will saunter onto the track for the seventh running of this event.  A nice mix of speedsters, pressers, trackers and a closer will settle in for a dramatic run.    Let's see if we can get a handle on this one.

#7 Little Drama (Castanon / Mareina) looks to have a slight edge over this talented bunch with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two swift peaking workouts.  He should be pressing the pace looking for the score.

#5 Good Lord (G. Saez / Kaelin) will challenge with the third highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three robust, peaking workouts.  He looks to track the pace and then put the peddle to the metal in the stretch run.  He is our "Bronze Horseshoe" selection on this Superfecta Sunday.

Betfair Hollywood Park Race 4 {Native Diver~G3~1 1/8 mile~3 year old Up~Stakes}
A short field of five will tromp onto the Hollywood cushion track.  Despite the small field, this one should still be an exciting race.  There is enough speed to keep it interesting.

$2 SHOW.

#1 Game On Dude (Smith / Baffert) will most assuredly be the favorite. However, he will offer little value.  He holds the second highest (tie) last out speed number at a longer route and three superb peaking workouts.  He could wire the field.

NONE offered in this race due to the small field.

Betfair Hollywood Park Race 8 {1 1/16 mile~3 year old Up~Allowance}
An equally matched field of eight steps out in this allowance feature.  Plenty of speed may set this one up for a horse coming from off the pace.  Any one of these fellas could win this route.  It will be a very good race.

#6 Fly Lexis Fly (Bejarano / Drysdale) may have a minute edge with the third highest (tie) last out speed number over a longer route, a three race progression, and four athletic workouts.  This horse could track a speedy pace and close well in the stretch.
$2 SHOW.

#3 Golden Itiz (Talamo / Ellis) will challenge with the fourth highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three hearty workouts.  This guy can improve nicely in his second start of the year.  Another that can track the pace and then swoop down in the stretch.

A very closely matched group of eight will step onto the course for this race.  All of these gals can pop a good one and take the victory.  There will be speed, pressers and trackers looking to cover the course well.

#4 EZ Passer (Alvarado / Englehart) might have a slight edge with the highest speed number at the distance.  She holds the second highest last out speed number and one stout workout.  This gal will battle on the front end with a marvelous 88% in the money record over nine races at this distance.
$1 WIN / $1 SHOW.

Betfair Hollywood Park Race 5 {Matriarch~G1~1 mile~TURF~3 year old Up~fillies/mares~Stakes}
A super high quality field of eight will prance onto the grass in this annual race.  It comes up equally divided between the forwardly placed and those coming from off the pace.  All but two in here have had a short freshening before heading back to competition.  It will be an exciting race.

#2 Emulous [GB] (Smullen / Weld) could go off as the favorite with a superb last out race in Ireland.  She is sporting a two race progression and has put in one quality workout.  This is her distance as she is 85% in the money in the Turf mile.  Clearly the one to beat.

#5 Dayatthespa (Castellano / C. Brown) will challenge with the third highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and four robust peaking workouts.  She should be forwarly placed ready to strike at the top of the stretch.

We are back on an exciting Stakes Saturday looking at a classic Turf race at venerable Calder Race Course.

Calder Racecourse Race 9 {W.L. McKnight~G2~1 1/2 mile~TURF~3 year old Up~Stakes}
A beautiful day in the Miami area will shine down on the horses.  This race comes up as a competitive one with a field of ten to start on the grass.  Very little speed may give the front runners an edge.  Most of the field will be tracking and closing in this one.  Could be an opportunity for all these talented horses.

#1 Ioya Bigtime (J. Sanchez / Block) may have the edge as the only speedster in the race.  This guy could control the pace on the front.  He holds the fourth highest speed number, a two race progression, and three superb workouts.  He could out dash the favorite.
$1 WIN / $2 SHOW.

#5 Forte Dei Marmi [GB] (G. Saez / Attfield) is the deserved favorite with the highest last out speed number, the highest speed number at the distance, and two robust workouts.  He will be coming late, hoping for a decent pace.
