2014 Breeder's Cup Championships Begin Today

One of the best horse racing weekends unfolds as day one of the 2014 Breeder's Cup Championships. On this Friday we take a look at a long route as part of a fantastic undercard at beautiful Santa Anita.

Santa Anita Race 2 {Las Vegas Marathon~G2~1 3/4 mile~3 year old Up~Graded Stakes}
A great field of nine will tackle this long distance endurance race.  There is enough speed to make it a very interesting race. Only two have gone this distance and both cruised over Turf. It should be a fabulous wagering event.

#5 Big Cazanova [ARG] (Nakatani / Miller) might have a minuscule edge with a couple of decent last out speed numbers and four endurance producing workouts. This lad comes into this one fresh off a brief layoff. He should be forwardly placed ready to romp.
$2 SHOW.

#7 Sky Kingdom (Espinoza / Baffert) should challenge with a couple of o.k. last out speed numbers and four superb peaking workouts. He holds the highest speed number over the Santa Anita track. This guy should be forwardly placed seeking an opening into the stretch.

#3 Irish Surf (Trujillo / Hendricks) will contend with a couple of good last out speed numbers and four stamina producing workouts. This guy holds the highest speed number over a dirt surface. He appears to sitting on a great performance particularly if a strong pace develops.

#9 Cary Street (Mena / Walsh) should be in the mix with a couple of excellent last out speed numbers and two stout workouts. He holds a solid in the money record of 66% from eighteen starts. This guy should track and close into a contested pace.

Kick-Off Our Horse Racing Weekend

We kick-off our horse racing weekend on the eve of the Breeder's Cup Championships. On this Thursday we warm up with a nice stakes race at beautiful Santa Anita.

Santa Anita Race 8 {Big Bear Stakes~1 mile~3 year old~Stakes}
A great group of nine will go to the gate in this annual affair. There is plenty of speed to keep the pace rolling. The competitors all have closely matched speed numbers. It should be terrific warm up for the Breeder's Cup races on Friday and Saturday.

#7 Blue Tone (Desormeaux / Hess) looks like the one that could get the job done with the second highest last out speed number, a six race progression, and three superb peaking workouts. He is coming off two wins in a row.

#8 Regally Ready (Napravnik / Asmussen) should challenge with the third highest last out speed number and three strong peaking workouts. He holds the highest speed number over the surface and will be making his first start over the Santa Anita track.

A Superfecta Belmont Sunday

It is Superfecta Sunday already. Today we take in a lively stakes route in New York, New York.

A very fine group of eight fillies and mares will step onto the track for this graded feature race. There is enough speed to keep a flowing pace. These gals all have closely matched speed figures which should make for a contentious race. Our task is to sew together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta Box ticket.

#1 Tapits World (J. Ortiz / Nevin) seems to have the most upside potential  with the highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and four marvelous peaking workouts during a brief layoff period. She should be close to the pace ready to strike in the stretch. She is our Bronze Horseshoe runner.

#8 Catch My Drift (J. Velazquez / C. Brown) could surprise with the fourth highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three stout workouts during a brief freshening. She has been victorious three times from three starts at this distance. Count on her to track and close vigorously.

#6 Endless Chatter (Rosario / C. Brown) should challenge with the second highest last out speed number at a longer route and two mighty strong workouts. She should be forwardly placed seeking to pounce on the leaders in the stretch. This gal in 90% in the money from ten starts.

#5 Teen Pauline (I. Ortiz / Pletcher) could lead from start to finish. She shares the highest last out speed number, albeit prior to a lengthy layoff. This gal has put in four sound peaking workouts in preparation for this race. She is one of may in here that is tough at this distance.

Stakes Saturday at Lovely Keeneland

On this Stakes Saturday we take in a good route race over the Kentucky dirt.

Keeneland Race 9 {Fayette~G2~1 1/8 mile~3 year old Up~graded Stakes}
A nice field of eight will hit the dirt in this annual graded stakes race. There will be pace so it could be anybody's race. All of these in here have had moments of triumph and all are decent form. The horse that is fully prepped to race on this day should come out ahead.

#7 Long River (Napravnik / McLaughlin) could have the advantage with the highest last out speed number at a longer route, a two race progression, and one solid workout. This son of A.P. Indy should track the pace and launch into the stretch. He shows the highest speed number at the distance as well.

Furlong Friday at Laurel

Thank goodness it is Furlong Friday. Today we take a look at a competitive contest for youngsters.

Laurel Park Race 8 {5 furlongs~2 year old~fillies~Claiming}
A wonderful field of nine juveniles will go to the gate in this claiming feature. There is plenty of speed to guarantee swift pace.  These youngsters are all fairly close in terms of their speed numbers and they all seem to be improving nicely. It should be superb race.

#9 Christmas Barn (Evans / Capuano) could take another step forward with the second highest (tie) last out speed number, a four race progression, and one bullet workout. This lad should be staying with the pace ready to deliver.

Horse Racing Weekend begins at Santa Anita

We open our horse racing weekend on this Thursday by taking a look at a nice TURF race in sunny Southern California.

A great group of eight youngsters will hoof it on the Turf in this allowance feature. No speed is evident which should make for a very interesting race. Those that are sent by their connections could have the advantage. The speed numbers are relatively comparable. It should be a very competitive race.

#5 Willing to Travel (Bejarano / Hollendorfer) holds the highest last out speed number, three race progression, and four tremendous peaking workouts. This son of Pleasantly Perfect also holds the highest speed number over the Santa Anita course.

Superfecta Sunday Turf

A beautiful Autumn day is forecast for Belmont Park. On this Superfecta Sunday we take in a wonderful Turf mile.

Belmont Park Race 8 {1 mile~TURF~3 year old~Allowance}
A fabulous field of ten will take to the green in this stakes caliber allowance feature. The race comes up a little light on speed, but there are several in here that like to be forwardly placed. Most have hit triple digit status in terms of speed numbers. Our task, once again, is to cobble together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket. Nonetheless, it should be a great race.

#7 Middleburg (Lezcano / Clement) might have the edge with a couple of very good last out speed numbers and one solid workout. He holds the third highest (3-way tie) speed number at the distance and couples that with a 100% in the money record from five tries. This lad should be tracking the pace very closely ready to spring forward in the stretch. He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#5 Inchcape (I. Ortiz / Servis) will challenge with highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and one peaking workout. This daughter of Discreet Cat has the tactical speed to stay close to the leaders and unleash into the stretch. Our horse racing weekend begins at the mighty Keeneland.

A good group of nine will go to the green in this feature race. It comes up a little light on speed. Expect a rapid quickening heading into the stretch run. The speed numbers are very close making this race a highly competitive one.

#9 Unitarian (Castellano / Pletcher) should be the favorite and the one to beat. He holds the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and four strong peaking workouts. This guy should be flying late into the stretch battle.

#5 Villandry (Bridgmohan / Lopresti) should challenge with the third highest (3-way tie) last out speed number and two stout workouts. He is coming off a fourth place finish in a grade one event up at Woodbine. This lad is one that should track and close diligently.

#12 Anecdote [GB] will be making her second North American start with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and one bullet workout. She scored a victory over the Belmont Turf in her last outing. This gal will be tracking and closing fiercely as she stretches out to a longer Turf route. She is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#4 Byrama [GB] (J. Velazquez / Mott) should challenge with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two robust workouts. She is a reliable sort who should track the pace and explode into the stretch. This gal relishes the Belmont Turf.

#1 Overheard (Castellano / Pierce) will contend as a lover of the distance. She holds a couple of good last out speed numbers and has put in four superb workouts in preparation. This lady should be able to close swiftly into a solid pace.

#2 La Tia (Rosario / De la cerda) should be the speed of the race attempting to wire the field. She holds the third highest (tie) last out speed number at a longer route and one top-notch workout. This gal has performed well at this distance.

Horse Racing Weekend Starts at Laurel

We start our horse racing weekend on the Turf.

A solid group of eleven will take to the grass in the allowance feature. There is enough speed to keep a decent pace going. The speed numbers are all fairly close. It should be a competitive event.

A Keeneland Superfecta Sunday

On this Superfecta Sunday, we take in a competitive allowance feature at beautiful Keeneland.

A competitive group of nine will enjoy the green in this allowance feature. There is enough speed to keep the pace rolling. The speed numbers are relatively close with most looking to improve.  Most in here are either making a class drop or distance drop. It will be a handicapping challenge, but try we must to shoe a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#4 Stroll to Victory (Rosario / McPeek) appears to be the strongest of the group with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two solid peaking workouts. He has already scored a victory at this distance in his only try at the same. This lad is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#2 Runs Like a Kitten (I. Ortiz / Maker) has been away from racing for a little over a year, but this another capable progeny of the legendary Kitten's Joy. #1 Dobra Historia (Napravnik / Mott) should challenge with the highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and two royal workouts. This guy has the tactical speed to fit the pace. He likes the Turf and will be stretching out to a slightly longer route.

#8 Arcane (Rocco / Motion) will contend sharing the highest last out speed number, working a two race progression, and holding a 100% in the money record from two career starts. He should be closely swiftly into a strong pace.

Stake Saturday at Keeneland

The first weekend in October and we look toward Kentucky for some sound Stakes action.

Keeneland Race 9 {Shadwell Turf Mile~G1~1 mile~TURF~3 year old Up~Graded Stakes}
A super fine group of eight will take to the grass in this annual graded stakes race. There will be pace.  Nearly all in this quality field have hit the elusive three digit speed fig. Most are specialists at this mile distance. It should be a thrilling race.

#6 Wise Dan (J. Velazquez / Lopresti) should be the favorite and the one to beat. This son of Wiseman's Ferry will be tracking the pace ready to sweep by the leaders. He holds the highest (tie) last out speed number at a longer route, a two race progression, and two superb workouts. This millionaire should score a fifth win in a row.
$1 WIN  / $2 PLACE.

#8 Seek Again (Rosario / Mott) will attempt to challenge with the second highest (three-way tie) last out speed number, a four race progression, and four excellent workouts. This son of Speightstown should track the pace and strike in the stretch. He already holds a victory at this distance.

#5 Kaigun (Husbands / Casse) should contend sharing the second highest last out speed number and putting in two solid workouts. He is 100% in the money at this distance from four starts. This son of Northern Afleet should track the pace closely and could get first jump on the leaders.

Furlong Friday; Hawthorne Opens

A fruitful Furlong Friday begins as Hawthorne opens its Fall season.

A seasoned field of eight will go to the gate. There is some decent speed which should lead to a sound pace. All of these guys are very close in terms of their speed numbers at the distance and on a dirt surface. It should be a dandy of a six furlong race.
