Holiday Monday Turf Mile Action

 On this Memorial Day take some time and remember those brave souls who paid the ultimate price serving their country.

Today we take a look at a great Turf mile at perhaps the most beautiful track in the country.

San Anita Park Race 7 {Shoemaker Mile~1 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~G1}

Hard to separate this talented group of eleven.

Past Performances used:  Equibase.

All of these lads have produced a triple digit speed fig at least once in their career, some with multiple trip-digits. The race comes up a little light on speed which should make for some interesting race strategies. Speed figs are very close making it super competitive. It should be one heck of race.

#1 Gold Phoenix [IRE] (Kimura / D'Amato) comes in undefeated at this distance with a strong effort at a longer route last out and four seriously good workouts. He should track and close nicely as long as there is speed on the front-end. This guy loves the surface, distance, and course. A son of Belardo [IRE], he is 83% in the money from twelve starts.

$2 WIN  /  $3 PLACE  /  $5 SHOW.

#7 Balnikov [IRE] (Rispoli / D'Amato). This son of Adaay [IRE] is a distance specailist and will close well when the quickening begins.

#11 Salesman [IRE] (Vazquez / Mandella). Son of Dubawi [IRE], will make his first North America start tracking the pace. Powerful workout tab demonstrates he is ready to roll.

#6 Exalted (JJ Hernandez / Eurton) looks for his fourth win in a row. Son of Twirling Candy is undefeated over the Santa Anita green. Should track the pace closely.

#3 Du Jour (L. Saez / Baffert). Son of Temple City is another lover of the surface, distance and course. Should track and close gallantly. 66% itm from twelve starts.

#2 Hong Kong Harry [IRE] (Prat / D'Amato) Son of Es Que Love [IRE] will scoot with strong strides when the hard racing begins. 86% itm from fifteen starts.

$1 Exacta Wheel ($5.00)

#1 Gold Phoenix [IRE]  //  #7 Balnikov [IRE],  #11 Salesman [IRE],  #6 Exalted,  #3 Du Jour,  #2 Hong Kong Harry [IRE].

Reverse the Exacta Wheel ($5.00)

Memorial Day Observed 2012

A respectful Memorial Day to you.
This is the day we give thanks to those who have fought in our nation's battles and passed on well before their time.

The long weekend also marks the unofficail start of summer.  It will be a great summer of horse racing.  The Belmont Stakes are just a couple short weeks away and it could produce a true Champion in I'll Have Another.  We are looking forward to that Saturday, June 9th, 2012.
There is much more racing before that day.  Today we take a look at a nice Turf battle among three year-old fillies at that engrossing track, Belmont Park.

Belmont Park Race 7 {Sandspoint~G2~1 1/16 mile~inner TURF~3 year old~fillies~Stakes}
This will be an exciting Turf race with a field of eight all in contention for the win.  A lack of speed may hurt the deep closer, Somali Lemonade's chances.  It is possible that two may decide to take to the front in an attempt to pilfer the victory.  Both Better Lucky and Preach Tome Daddy like to be forwardly placed and may, by default, motor on the front end.  This could be a uniquely challenging race.

#8 Firehouse Red (Napravnik / Jones) could surprise the favorite with an honest pace up front.  She holds the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression and a terrific 86% in the money record over the Turf surface in seven starts.  A closer with some tactical speed, she could land in the winner's circle.
$1 WIN / $1 SHOW.

#3 Somali Lemonade (J. Velazquez / Matz) is the deserving favorite with the highest speed number at the distance and two robust workouts.  This gal will need a strong pace in order to close deeply.
$1 PLACE / $1 SHOW.

#1 Better Lucky (E. Castro / Albertrani) could be the surprise with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two solid workouts off a six and one-half furlong win.  An interesting one that could be part of the pace.
$1 SHOW.

Another Wagering Interest

#7 Zultanite (Dominguez / Donk) could also surprise with the third highest last out speed number off a longer Turf route, a six race progression, and one superb workout.  She will track the leaders ready to make her move at the bottom of the turn.

10 CENT Superfecta

#8 Firehouse Red, #3 Somali Lemonade / #8, #3 / #1 Better Lucky, #7 Zultanite / #1, #7.
