Superfecta Sunday Deep in the Heart of Texas

On this Superfecta Sunday we take in a spectacular stakes race deep in the heart of Texas.

Lone Star Park Race 7 {Steve Sexton Mile~G3~1 mile~3 year-old Up~Stakes}

A good field of ten will hit the Texas dirt in this annual stakes race. Most in here have the tactical speed to insure there is a swift pace. Speed numbers are very close making it a super competitive event. Our task is to cobble together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket. It should be a mighty fine race.

#1 Title Ready (Eramia / Asmussen) is in great form with the second highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three strong peaking workouts. This lad is 100% in the money from three starts at this distance. A son of More Than Ready, he should be forwardly placed seeking position for the stretch run.

#4 King Abner (T. Baze / D'Amato) is coming in from California sporting the highest last out speed number and three power workouts. This guy is also 100% in the money from three starts at the distance. A son of Hansen, he has good tactical speed to to adapt to any pace that develops.

#7 Forevamo (I. Diego / Asmussen) looks to improve from his last out performances at Oaklawn Park and Gulfstream Park. He has put in two robust peaking workouts prepping fro this race. Another that it 100% in the money at the distance from five starts. A son of Uncle Mo, he should track the pace and strike in the stretch. He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#6 Air Strike (Talamo / D'Amato) is another California invader with a few solid speed numbers from his last three races. This lad has put in three sound workouts in the last thirty days. A son of Street Sense, he is another that will be tracking the pace ready to launch.

Stakes Saturday at Night

With KD 145 only seven days away we take a look an evening Stakes race down at magnificent Churchill Downs. It is opening evening and a Turf sprint is in the cards.

Churchill Downs Race 8 {William Walker Stakes~5 Furlongs~TURF~3 year-old~Stakes}

A reduced field of seven will hit the Churchill green in this stakes feature. There is speed to create a swift pace. Speed numbers are fairly close. Four entrants are coming off extended layoffs and should fire fresh. It should be a great race to wager and watch.

#3 Legends of War (Beschizza / O'Neill) will be making his first North American start after racing well across the pond in France and Great Britain. He is coming out of a Group two and has put in four superb peaking workouts in preparation for this start. A son of Scat Daddy, he has the second highest average earnings per race. With speed upfront he will be tracking ready to swoop down on these lads.

#1 Bulletin (Castellano / Pletcher) should go off as the favorite with the highest last out speed number, the highest speed number at the distance, and two hearty peaking workouts. He comes into this one undefeated from three career starts. This lad loves the Turf and the Churchill course. A son of City Zip, he will show speed from the gate and could wire this field.

#8 Hartel (Geroux / P. Miller) should challenge coming off an extended layoff with four top-notch peaking workouts. He holds the second highest speed number at the distance while securing a victory at it. Another son of City Zip, he has the tactical speed to fit nicely into the flow of the race.

#4 Uncapped (Graham / Walsh) appears to be in great form and should contend with this group. He holds the second highest last out speed number and one solid workout. This guy also holds the third highest speed number at the distance. A son of First Samurai, he should track the pace naturally.

Furlong Friday for Opening Day at Belmont

You know we are heading into a serious horse racing season when Belmont opens, Churchill Downs follows, and then Arlington International opens next week.

Today, we try to get back into Furlong Friday action by taking a look at a sweet New York bred Stakes race.

Belmont Park Race 8 {Affirmed Success Stakes~6 Furlongs~4 year-old Up~NY~Stakes}

A slightly reduced field of six will hustle into the gate for this sprint feature. There is enough forwardly placed types to guarantee an honest pace. Speed numbers are fairly close. All of these lads could be considered specialists at the distance. It should be a terrific race.

#4 Pat on the Back (D. Davis / J. Englehart) is coming off a layoff and out of a grade one race. This guy could have the edge racing fresh. He holds the third highest last out speed number at a route and three superb workouts. This guy is 75% in the money at this distance. Look for him to be close to the pace.

#2 Celtic Chaos (Cancel / B. Cox) is coming off a modest layoff where is scored the highest last out speed number and has put in three solid workouts. This lad shares the highest speed number at the distance as well as an 66% in the money record at same. A speedy pace will benefit him greatly.

#1 Bavaro (Maragh / L. Rice) should show speed sharing the highest speed number at the distance and putting in one quality workout. He exits a bit longer sprint and gets back to a beneficial distance. Another one with an exceptional in the money record at the distance (70% from seventeen starts). He could wire the field.

#8 Snydergaard (Alvarado / Terranova) exits a grade three were he posted the fourth highest speed number of this group. He has fired three bullets in preparation for this race. This guy should track the pace and strike in the stretch.

Up North for Superfecta Sunday

On this Superfecta Easter Sunday we take a look at an outstanding Stakes sprint North of the border.

Woodbine Race 6 {Star Shoot Stakes~6 Furlongs~3 year-old~Fillies~Stakes}

A glorious field of ten will enter the gate in this stakes sprint. There is enough speed to guarantee a demanding pace. Speed figures for these young ladies are very close. Four in here will be setting their hooves on the synthetic surface for the first time. It should be a very good race. Our task is to string together a winning 20 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#5 Sister Peacock (Campbell / Simon) is the speed of the race and could wire this field. She holds the second highest last out speed number and has put in three serious workouts. Last seen at Gulfstream Park, this gal already has two wins at fabulous Woodbine. A daughter of Real Solution, she is 100% in the money from four career starts. She is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#9 Intanga Rose (DaSilva / S. Attard) could go off as the favorite as she comes back to Woodbine after a extended winter vacation. This gal holds the highest last out speed number and has grouped together three dynamite workouts. A daughter of Animal Kingdom, she should track the pace and launch into the stretch. She has a 100% win record from two starts last year.

#4 My Gal Betty (G. Boulanger / Attfield) should challenge coming out of a graded stakes race down at Gulfstream Park. She loves the Woodbine Tapeta surface securing two in the money performances over it. A daughter of Point of Entry, she is another that will track the pace. Overall she is 66% in the money from six starts.

#1 Speedy Soul (Kimura / M. Casse) should be a contender coming back to Woodbine after a long winter layoff. She scored two victories from two starts last year and looks to improve in her first start this year having put in two strong peaking workouts. A daughter of Souper Speedy, she will close into a fast pace.

Stakes Saturday at Keeneland

Today we take in a classic Turf race at beautiful Keeneland.

Keeneland Race 9 {Dixiana Elkhorn~G2~1 1/2 mile~4 year-old Up~Graded Stakes}

A great field of ten will take to the Turf in this annual event. There is some speed to maintain an honest pace at this longer distance. Speed figs are fairly close which should make it a relatively competitive event. The Turf is considered yielding at the time of this post. It should be a fantastic race.

#10 Zulu Alpha (J. Ortiz / Maker) should go off as the favorite as he seeks his fourth win in a row. He holds the third highest (tie) last out speed number and four supremely good peaking workouts. This son of Street Cry [IRE] should be tracking the pace and rally in the stretch.

#5 Canessar [FR] (Lynch / Delacour) will challenge sharing the third highest last out speed fig and putting in a solid workout. He also shares the second highest speed number at the distance with our top pick. A son of Kendargent [FR], he is another that will track and quicken into the stretch.

#8 Red Knight (L. Saez / Mott) should contend coming off a "marathon" distance race in his last scoring the second highest last out speed number. He has put in four quality peaking workouts in the last thirty days. This lad has the highest in the money record of the group at 81% from eleven career starts. A son of Pure Prize, he too will be tracking the pace.

#4 Soglio (Geroux / Maker) will be in the mix with three good last out speed numbers and two hearty workouts. This lad has secure one victory at this distance from two tries. He does well over yielding sod. A son of Scat Daddy, he should be close to the pace and get first run on the leaders.

A Little New York Turf for Superfecta Sunday

On this Superfecta Sunday we take in a nice Stakes race on the Turf in New York.

Aqueduct Race 8 {Mizdirection Stakes~6 Furlongs~TURF~3 year-old~Fillies~Stakes}

A nice group of eight fillies will step onto the grass in this annual event. There is a ton of speed signed on which could produce a hot pace. Speed figs look fairly close as a few of these gals will be stepping on to the green for the first time. None of these girls have raced over the Aqueduct Turf. Our task is to knit together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#4 Mae Never No [IRE] (Bravo / W. Ward) looks ready to hit the grass after a modest layoff. She holds the second highest (tie) speed number over the Turf and has put in four sturdy workouts prepping for this one. A daughter of No Nay Never, she should be forwardly placed looking for an opening. This girl is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#9 Queen of Bermuda [IRE] (Alvarado / Motion) should challenge having already won a race at this distance, sharing the second highest speed number over the surface, and putting in four top-notch workouts. She is another coming off a modest layoff. With all the speed signed on she could benefit greatly with her tracking running style. A daughter of Exceed and Excel [AUS], she is 63% in the money from eleven career starts.

#3 Golonda [FR] (I. Ortiz / C. Brown) is another that will challenge coming off a brief layoff. She holds the highest speed number over the Turf and has put in four hearty workouts. This gal is 80% in the money from five career starts. A daughter of Planteur [IRE], she should race close to the pace and get first jump on the leaders.

#8 Eyeinthesky (M. Franco / M. Casse) holds the fourth highest last out speed number and two peaking bullet workouts. She is 55% in the money from nine career starts. A daughter of Sky Mesa, she has the tactical speed to see what type of pace develops and then plot her path for a piece of the purse pie.

Stakes Saturday in Hot Springs

On this Stakes Saturday we take a look at the last race on the Kentucky Derby trail.

Oaklawn Park Race 11 {The Arkansas Derby~G1~1 1/8 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A great crop of eleven will take to the Arkansas dirt to chase the Derby dream. With KD 145 only three weeks away, many in this starting gate are seeking additional Derby points to assure their entry into the gate on the first Saturday in May. There is plenty of speed to mount a rapid pace. Speed numbers are reasonably close offering a competitive race. The Arkansas Derby has always been a key race for the Kentucky Derby; this one will be no exception.  It should be a fantastic race.

#7 Galilean (Prat / Hollendorfer) should take another step forward with the third highest last out speed number and three terrific endurance producing workouts. He has 7.5 KD points and a win or second here will get him a spot in this years big dance. A son of Uncle Mo, he should be forwardly placed ready for battle.
$2 WIN  /  $3 PLACE  /  $5 SHOW.

#3 Omaha Beach (M. Smith / Mandella) could go off as a co-favorite with the highest last out speed number and two bullet workouts. He will be seeking his third win in a row coupled with a 100% in the money record from six starts. This colt has 37.5 KD points, but could use a few more to insure his spot in KD 145. A son of War Front, he should be forwardly placed jostling for position heading into the stretch run.
$2 PLACE  /  $3 SHOW.

#1 Improbable (J. Ortiz / Baffert) is the other probable favorite with the second highest (tie) last out speed number and two bullet workouts. He will need some additional points to make it to the gate on May 4th as he currently has 25 KD points. Expect this son of City Zip to track the pace and strike in the stretch.

#8 Country House (Rosario / Mott) should challenge with a couple of good last out speed numbers and two solid workouts. This lad continues to improve with every race. He is the only one in the field that has competed at this distance. Count 30 KD points to his credit. A son of Lookin At Lucky, he should be closing swiftly into a fast pace.

Superfecta Sunday at Beautiful Keeneland

Today on this Superfecta Sunday we take in some Turf at beautiful Keeneland.

Keeneland Race 8 {Appalachian~G2~1 mile~TURF~3 year-old~Fillies~Graded Stakes}

A great field of eleven will run in this annual event. It comes up a little light on speed which might develop a Euro-style quickening coming out of the final turn. Speed numbers are close making for a real competitive event. Hopefully the rain stays away and this remains on the Turf. Our task is to string together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta Box ticket.

#9 Regal Glory (J. Ortiz / C. Brown) looks like the one to beat with the third highest last out speed number and four hearty workouts. She also has the second highest speed number at this mile distance. This gal has hit the board in all three of her career starts. A daughter of Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom, she could figure into the pace scenario.

#4 The Mackem Bullet [IRE] (Gaffalione / W. Ward) should challenge with the third highest speed number at the distance and four excellent workouts. Her last out was at a longer distance over the polytrack at Turfway Park. A daughter of Society Rock [IRE], she should be forwardly placed ready for first run towards the wire. This gal is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#5 Princesa Carolina (B. Hernandez / McPeek) will contend with the highest last out speed number at a longer route and three dynamic workouts. This gal is one of two that has raced over the Keeneland turf. A daughter of Tapit, she should be part of the quickening gang coming off the turn.

#3 Catch A Thrill (J. Velazquez / M. Casse) should be in the mix with a couple of decent speed numbers in her first two starts and three robust peaking workouts. This girl has hit the board in both of those starts. A daughter of City Zip, she will stretch out from a sprint.

In Pursuit of Derby Points at Magnificent Keeneland

The first Stakes Saturday in April holds a plethora of high quality Stakes races on the docket. Today we take a look at a fantastic race in the Bluegrass State of Kentucky.

Keeneland Race 10 {Toyota Bluegrass Stakes~G2~1 1/8 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A full field of fourteen will enter the gate in pursuit of a million dollar purse and Kentucky Derby points. There is enough speed to maintain an honest pace. Speed numbers are fairly close as each one of these lads continue to improve. All but two have been nominated to the Triple Crown. Only six in this field have gone this distance on dirt, synthetic or turf. It could be the most exciting of the three Kentucky Derby preps racing today.

#8 WIn Win Win (I. Ortiz / Trombetta) looks to take another step closer in securing a spot in KD 145. He holds the second highest (tie) last out speed number and two superb workouts. This lad has hit the board in all five of his career starts. A son of Hat Trick [JPN], he should be tracking the pace closely and strike in the stretch.

#3 Signalman (B. Hernandez / McPeek) appears ready to roll with the second highest speed number over dirt and three powerful workouts. He is familiar with the Keeneland oval having been in the money in one start over it. A well traveled son of General Quarters, he should track and close swiftly.

#1 Somelikeithotbrown (Gaffalione / Maker) should challenge with the third highest last out speed number and two super strong workouts. This guy should display speed from the opening gate. He makes his move from synthetic to dirt with a win at the distance last out. A son of Kentucky Derby winner Big Brown, he is 85% in the money from seven career starts.
$1 SHOW.

#9 Sir Winston (Leparoux / M. Casse) could surprise with the highest speed number at the distance as well as the fourth highest last out speed number. He has put in two hearty workouts prepping for this race. A son of Awesome Again, he should be another in the crew tracking the pace closely.
