Furlong Friday in the Sun

On this Furlong Friday we take a look at a high level Maiden Claiming race at the "Great Race Place".

Santa Anita Park Race 4 {6 Furlongs~3 year-old~Fillies~Maiden Claiming}

A group of seven young ladies are in for the 100K tag in this feature Maiden Claiming race. There are a couple of speedsters in the field, but there are also three first time starters who have not revealed their running style. The four that have raced have speed numbers that are fairly close. It appears it could be any one of these gals race.

#3 Sheza Chattykat (Bejarano / Baltas) could go off as the favorite with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three sharp peaking workouts. This gal has the potential to wire this field.

#2 Adorable (Elliott / Sherman) should challenge with a couple of decent last out speed numbers. She has hit the board 50% of the time in her six career starts. This gal could be close to the pace and strike in the stretch.

Horse Racing Weekend Begins in Florida

Best of luck to all the horseplayers battling in the Horse Players World Series at The Orleans in Las Vegas, Nevada this horse racing weekend. Boyd Gaming always puts on great horse racing tournaments year after year.

On this Thursday we take a look at a fine maiden event down in South Florida.

Gulfstream Park Race 8 {1 1/16 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~Maiden Claiming}

A good group of twelve will enter the gate in this maiden claiming feature. There is a little bit of speed to keep the pace rolling. Many in here are seeking their first win and most have had trouble hitting the board. Speed numbers are all over the map making this race a difficult, but potentially profitable handicapping endeavor.

#9 Songeur (L. Saez / Pletcher) will be making his third career start with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three hearty workouts. This colt will be dropping in class and stretching out in distance to enhance his chances. He could be rolling late seeking the win.

Superfecta Sunday in the Land of Enchantment

A Superfecta Sunday derby prep is on tap in the state of New Mexico as we take in the Sunland Derby.

Sunland Park Race 9 {Sunland Derby~G3~1 1/8 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A great field of eleven will go to the gate in this KD 143 prep race with points on the line. Great American trainers have shipped in their charges with the hope of getting them into this years Kentucky Derby. There is sufficient speed to create an honest pace. Speed figs are close as all of these lads will stretch out to this distance for the first time. There are seven Triple Crown nominees in the field. Our task is to string together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket. It should be a fantastic race.

#3 Bronze Age (M. Garcia / Baffert) has the edge with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three exceptional workouts. This guy will show speed as he seeks to wire the field. He comes in from Santa Anita.

#2 Hedge Fund (J. Ortiz / Pletcher) should challenge with the second highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and four superb workouts. This lad should be sitting right off the pace ready to roll into the stretch. He comes in from Gulfstream Park.

#6 Dilettante (G. Stevens / Lukas) should contend sharing the second highest last out speed number, working a three race progression, and putting in three smashing workouts. He has the tactical speed to sit keenly in positon and rock into the stretch. This colt comes in from Oaklawn Park. He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

A Little Spiral Stakes Saturday

Off we go to Kentucky for another KD 143 prep race.

Turfway Park Race 10 {Spiral Stakes~G3~1 1/8 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A talented field of eleven will go to the gate in this Kentucky Derby prep race. There is sufficient speed to maintain a fluid pace. Speed figs are all fairly close, but most in here have not traveled over a synthetic surface preferring Turf instead. Those that have gone over the synth might have a bit of an advantage; however, usually horses racing over the Turf can make a smooth transition to synthetic surfaces. This is a handicappers dream race with a highly contentious field. It will be one of the better ones on the day.

#2 Soglio (McCarthy / Motion) could take another step forward coming in from the West coast. He holds the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number and has put in three terrific workouts. This lad will be stretching out to this distance.  A son of Scat Daddy, watch him track and close gallantly.

#12 En Hanse (Albarado / Maker) should challenge with a couple of good last out speed numbers, hitting in the board in both. He shows one dynamic workout and is 100% in the money over the Turfway track. A son of Hansen, he has the tactical speed to stay the course.

#8 Kitten's Cat (L. Saez / Sharp) could go off as the favorite with the highest last out spee number and two solid workouts. He will be making the transition from Turf to synth holding an impressive 85% in the money record from seven starts. A son of Kitten's Joy, he should track the pace closely.

Superfecta Sunday at Santa Anita

Back to Turf action for Superfecta Sunday at the "Great Race Place".

Santa Anita Park Race 8 {Pasadena Stakes~1 mile~TURF~3 year-old~Stakes}

A great field of ten will go to the green in this annual event. There is speed which should produce a hot pace. Speed numbers are very close. A competitive event is assured. Many in here have regal pedigrees for fine Turf action. Our task is to sew together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket. It should be one of the best races of the day.

#8 Conquest Farenheit (N. Arroyo / Miller) might have the advantage with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three hearty peaking workouts. This guy should be forwardly placed, ready to strike in the stretch. He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#5 Taco (Rios / Loza) comes in from Houston where he raced last out for a win in a stakes competition. He holds a couple of decent last out speed numbers and has posted a win at this distance. This guy is undefeated in four starts. As a speedy pace will develop, he will benefit greatly from it with his track and close running style.

#9 Zakaroff (Talamo / Specht) comes down from Golden Gate where he won a grade three event. This guy holds the fourth highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and three smashing workouts. He will journey on to the Turf for the first time. Watch him track the speedy pace and launch into the stretch.

#2 Taxman's Quest (Prat / Mandella) will be dueling on the front end with the other speeds in the race. He holds a couple of decent last out speed numbers where he earned victories in both. This lad will be stretching out and hitting the Turf for the first time. He will be pursuing his third win in a row having put in four high quality peaking workouts.

Stakes Saturday Rebel Yell

On this Stakes Saturday we take a look at another Kentucky Derby prep race down in Arkansas.

Oaklawn Park Race 10 {Rebel~G2~1 1/16 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A great crop of eleven will go to this gate in this annual event. there is a whole bunch of speed in this one making a swift pace inevitable. Speed numbers are fairly close creating a highly competitive race. All in this one are nominated to the Triple Crown. Off the pace runners might have the edge. It should be another superb race down in Hot Springs.

#11 Lookin At Lee (Santana / Asmussen) might have the edge with the speedsters all battling on the front end. He has raced well in his last two working a seven race progression and has put in two solid peaking workouts. A son of Lookin At Lucky, he relishes the distance and the track.

#7 American Anthem (Smith / Baffert) should go off as the deserved favorite with the third highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and three sensational workouts. This guy will need to sit right off the speed to strike in the stretch. A son of Bodemeister, he comes in from California rested and ready.

#4 Petrov (J. Ortiz / Moquett) should challenge with the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and two hearty peaking workouts. He loves the Oaklawn Park track and distance. This son of Flatter, is 100% in the money from four career starts. Look for him to track close to the pace.

On this Furlong Friday we take a look at a nice downhill Turf race at the "Great Race Place".

Santa Anita Park Race 5 {6 1/2 Furlongs~Downhill TURF~4 year-old Up~Allowance}

A good field of eight will go to the hillside course in this Allowance feature. There is sufficient speed to make a speedy race of it. Speed numbers are fairly close making for a competitive event. It should be a sweet race on this St. Patty's day.

#8 Incensed (N. Arroyo / Miller) could make a nice go of it with a couple of decent last out speed numbers and three robust workouts. This lad holds the best in the money record, at 72%, of this field. He has the tactical speed to adjust to the pace.

It's Derby Time in Tampa

On this Stakes Saturday we take in another fine prep for that first Saturday in May.

Tampa Bay Downs Race 11 {Tampa Bay Derby~G2~1 1/16 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A fine crop of ten will battle for Derby points in this terrific graded stakes race. There is enough speed to insure an honest pace. Speed figs are fairly close. All have been nominated to the Triple Crown, but only six have raced over the Tampa dirt. It should be a sensational race as we get closer to KD 143.

#5 Tapwrit (J. Ortiz / Pletcher) looks to have the edge with the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and two sound workouts. This guy should be tracking a speedy pace and launch smoothly into the stretch. A son of Tapit, he also holds the highest speed number at the distance.

#4 No Dozing (Centeno / Delacour) should challenge with a couple of decent last out speed numbers and two quality workouts. He is another tracking that should strike heading into the stretch. A son of Union Rags, he has raced over the Tampa dirt and looks to improve.

Santa Anita Park Race 5 {Wishing Well Stakes~6 1/2 Furlongs~Downhill TURF~4 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~Stakes}

A talented field of seven will race downhill in this annual Stakes race. There is enough speed to maintain a rapid pace. Speed numbers are fairly close for most in this one. It should be a barn burner of a race.

#4 Miss Double d'Oro (Gonzalez / Drysdale) might benefit from the swift pace with her tracking and closing running style. She holds the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three stamina producing workouts. This gal has a surperb chance of passing the field in the stretch.

Horse Racing Weekend begins on the Poly

With lots of hoops action going on as the madness begins. We are back at our horse racing weekend as we take the turn into Spring. Today we take a look at a healthy spring over the Polytrack.

Turfway Park Race 8 {6 Furlongs~3 year-old Up~Fillies / Mares~Allowance}

A good group of eight will go to the gate in this challenging sprint. There is enough speed to keep a steady pace. Speed numbers are fairly close giving this contest a competitive feel. It should be a terrific race.

#9 Love the Power [FR] (Ouzts / Nocero) is coming off a maiden victory with the second highest last out speed number among this group. She shows improvement over her first race and looks to make another improvement while stretching out 110 yards. She has put in a solid workout. Look for her to be close to the pace and make a getaway in the stretch.
