On a beautiful Autumn day we look at a good Turf mile race in Southern California.

Santa Anita Park Race 9 {Autumn Miss~G3~1 mile~TURF~3 year-old~Fillies~Graded Stakes}

A great big field of thirteen gals will go to the green as the Santa Anita Fall meet ends, making way for the Breeder's Cup Championships at Del Mar.  There is a plethora of speed which should make the pace muy caliente. Speed numbers are extremely close giving any of these lasses a decent chance to strut into the winners circle. Our task is to ling together a group of four for a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket. The race should be tremendous.

#11 Lull (Prat / Clement) might have the edge having hit the board in her last two while achieving good last out speed numbers. She stretches out with a bullet workout in her saddle. This gal is 70% in the money from ten career starts and holds the highest speed number of the group over the Turf. She is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#6 Storm the Hill (Nakatani / Miller) should be in contention with the third highest (3-way tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and two quality workouts. She holds the second highest speed number at the distance with a 57% in the money record at same. This gal should be tracking and closing earnestly.

#4 Tapped (Smith / Baltas) should be in the hunt sharing the third highest last out speed number, working a five race progression, and putting in three diligent, peaking workouts. This gal has the best versatility in running style and should adapt to any pace scenario that might develop.

Stakes Saturday the Santa Anita Way

You gotta love the Turf. We take in a terrific race in Southern California.

Santa Anita Park Race 9 {Twilight Derby~G2~1 1/8 mile~TURF~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A fantastic field of nine will hit the Turf in this graded stakes race. It comes up a little short in speed, but there are a few in here that could be forwardly placed. Speed numbers are very close making it a contentious race. It should really be one of the better Turf races on the day.

#9 Profiteer (Smith / McGaughey) comes in from the East coast to challenge these Turfers. He holds a couple of very good last out speed numbers and two hearty workouts. Looking to stretch his win record to four, he should be tracking the pace closely. A son of War Front, he should be able to take another step forward.

#8 Channel Maker (Van Dyke / Mott) should pose a challenge as another shipper in, though he has run over the Santa Anita course. He holds the third highest last out speed number at a longer Turf route, a two race progression, and two hardy workouts. This son of English Channel has hit the board in his lone try at this distance. He could come closing gallantly.

#2 Cowboy Culture (Geroux / Cox) is another shipping in ready to show off his talent. He holds a couple of superb last out efforts and has put in four excellent works. He will be stretching out to this distance after winning two in a row at shorter. A son of Quality Road, he will be tracking the pace.

A state for Horse Lovers, Maryland, is where we look in on a tremendous Stakes race.

A solid field of eleven talented horses will go to the gate in this annual event. There is enough speed to maintain a strong pace. Speed numbers are close. Only six in this field have traversed this distance making for an interesting competition. It should be a very exciting race.

A short field of seven will head to the gate in this lower level claiming race. There is some speed. Speed numbers are very close. All of these guys are heading over from Gulf Stream Park to frolic over the former Calder race track. It should be a good event. Our task is to attempt to string together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#6 Quenane (Gaffalione / Levy) might have the edge with the second highest last out speed number. Actually, he has a couple of decent last out speed numbers in which he hit the board in both races. This lad has the best overall in the money performance at 69% from thirteen starts. He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

Chantilly, France 3:05 pm Race. Our first pick, Dschingis Secret [GER], finished 6th.  Our second pick, Zarak [FR] finished off the board.  Our third pick, Ulysses [IRE], finished 3rd for place money of $5.60.

Exacta went 17 - 5.

Bankroll encounters "a frappe un coup", settling at $84.90.

2017 Prix de L'arc de Triomphe

Oui. We are taking a foray into international racing as the Prix de L'arc de Triomphe is the richest Turf race in the World. This year in Chantilly, France. Also, it should be the most exciting classic Turf race this year.

Later in the day we will look at another Turf classic in sunny California, USA.

Chantilly 3:05 pm Race {Qatar Prix de L'arc de Triomphe~Group 1~Approximately 1 1/2 miles~Turf~3 year-old Up~Group 1}

This race will actually go off at approximately 9:05 am Chicago (cdt) time.

A supreme quality group of eighteen will enter the starting gate for the highest regarded race in Europe. It will feature horses from France, Great Britain, Germany, and Japan. All are, arguably, the best of the best Turf horses. There will be speed, but the stayers will have their day. A case could be made for any of the runners in this race. Ground is expected to be soft due to forecasted rain.

#8 Dschingis Secret [GER] (de Vries / Klug) should like the ground. His connections are solid in the win column over the last fourteen days. He was last seen winning over the Chantilly course. This lad is 80% in the money over the Turf from ten starts. He will be coming out of the 10th post. A son of Soldier Hollow [GB], he is our Key selection.

$2 WIN  /  $3 PLACE.

#1 Zarak [FR] (Soumillon / Royer-Dupree) is well prepped by his connections who have a strong strike rate. This guy won last out at Saint-Cloud at this distance. He is 66% in the money over Turf. Despite the fact he will be coming our of the 18th hole, he should acquit himself gallantly. A son of Dubawi [IRE], he will relish the distance.

$2 PLACE.

#4 Ulysses [IRE] (Crowley / Stoute) won at York last out and comes into this premiere race with confidence. Connections have solid strike rates. This son of Galileo [IRE] is 75% in the money over Turf. Distance and ground should not be a factor. He holds the second highest rating among the group.

#17 Enable [GB] (Dettori / Gosden) currently is the even money favorite and deservedly so.

But alas, we are looking for value. This filly has won five straight, her last being at York. The top rating in the field, she is already legend at this distance. Her connections are world-class. A daughter of Nathaniel [IRE], she could give this field a drubbing.

#3 One Foot in Heaven [IRE] (Doyle / Royer-Dupre) is a disciple of the soft ground and is sure to have a say in the outcome if the Turf is good to soft. Connections have a superior strike rate. Last seen at Maisons-Lafitte, where he placed second. A son of Fastnet Rock [Aus], he may be a longshot to take it, but do not discount him.
