Another Big Derby Prep on Stakes Saturday

On this Stakes Saturday we take in another competitive Kentucky Derby prep in South Florida.

Gulfstream Park Race 14 {Xpress Bet Florida Derby~G1~1 1/8 mile~3 year old~Graded Stakes}

A great field of nine will head to the gate in this key KD 144 prep. There is plenty of speed to insure a swift pace. Speed numbers are very close which should produce a extremely competitive race. All but one are nominated to the Triple Crown. This should be the top race during the Gulfstream Park Championship season.

#6 Catholic Boy (I. Ortiz / Thomas) comes over from Tampa Bay Downs where he it the third highest (tie) last out speed number. This will be his first run over the Gulfstream Park track, but he comes in working a five race progression and putting in four robust peaking workouts. A son of More Than Ready, he should push through tracking and closing powerfully in the stretch.
$1 WIN  /  $2 PLACE  /  $3 SHOW.

#7 Hofburg (J. Ortiz / Mott) will be making his third career start after winning at second asking producing the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number. This lad did improve in that start and has put in three hearty peaking workouts. A son of Tapit, this guy should be tracking the pace and sprout in the stretch.

#8 Audible (J. Velazquez  /  Pletcher) looks to take another step forward seeking his fourth win in a row with the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and four stout peaking workouts. This son of Into Mischief should be close to the pace and move smoothly into the stretch.

#9 Mississippi (Leparoux  /  Casse) could surprise sharing the fourth highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and four serious peaking workouts. He is another that should track the pace closely and then let loose in the stretch. A son of Pioneer of the Nile, he will be stretching out to this distance.

Superfecta Sunday at Sunland

On this Superfecta Sunday we take in another Kentucky Derby prep down in New Mexico.

Sunland Park Race 11 {Sunland Derby~G3~1 1/8 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A talented crew of twelve will enter the gate in this annual Derby prep. There is enough speed to keep an earnest pace. Weather forecast is partly cloudy with some significant wind gusts adding intrigue to a interesting race. Speed numbers are all fairly close as all but one stretch out to this distance. Our task is to lasso a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket. It should be an excellent race for our Superfecta Sunday.

#3 New York Central (Santana / Asmussen) might have the edge with a pressing attack. He holds the second highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and three fine peaking workouts. This son of Tapit has the tactical speed to race close and then spurt off into the stretch. He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.
$5 SHOW.

#11 Runaway Ghost (Hebert / Fincher) is the local hope with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two favorable workouts. He should be part of the pace scenario if he gets away from an outside post in good order. This son of Ghostzapper has a terrific 83% in the money record from six starts.

#2 Dark Vader (Elliott / Eurton) should challenge with the third highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and four high quality, peaking workouts. The connections of this son of Tale of Ekati have him ready for a strong performance.

#1 All Out Blitz (M. Garcia / Callaghan) should contend as he is one of a number coming in from Southern California. He holds a couple of good last out speed numbers and three speedy five furlong workouts. A son of Concord Point, he should be forwardly placed ready to roll.

Louisiana Derby Stakes Saturday

One of the big Kentucky Derby preps launches down in New Orleans on this Stakes Saturday.

Fair Grounds Race 11 {Twinspires Louisiana Derby~G2~1 1/8 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A talented crop of ten will go to the gate in this annual Derby prep. There is a plethora of speed which could produce a pace melt down. Speed numbers are very close making for quite a competitive event. All but one are Triple Crown nominees. The entire field will be stretching out to this longer route distance. It should be an extremely exciting race with KD 144 only forty-two days away.

#7 Snapper Sinclair (J. Ortiz / Asmussen) has the tactical speed to let the leaders roll out ferociously while he gets first jump heading into the stretch. He holds the highest (three-way tie) last out speed number, a three race progression, and two sound workouts. A son of City Zip, has hit the board twice in his two attempts over the Fair Grounds track.

#4 Givemeaminit (Castellano / D. Stewart) looks to take another step forward as he stretches out to this distance.  He holds the fourth highest last out speed number and three robust workouts. #1 Barazo (G. Stevens / Lukas) should contend mightily sharing the highest last out speed number, working a three race progression, and putting in three hearty workouts. This lad will be pursuing his third win in a row. A son of Awesome Again, he should travel close to the pace.

Furlong Friday at Fair Grounds

On the eve of the great Louisiana Derby we take a look at some prime Louisiana equines for Furlong Friday.

Fair Grounds Race 7 {6 Furlongs~4 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~LA~Claiming}

A great group of nine will go to the gate in this sprint. There is sufficient speed to keep the pace rolling. Speed numbers are very, very close making it a supremely competitive contest. Half the field is coming out of a little more challenging races. It should be an excellent race with any of these gals having a chance to strut in the winners circle.

#9 Blessed Song (Broussard / Reeves) is the only gal who has not ran over the Fair Grounds track, but comes into this race with a solid record. She holds the second highest last out speed number at a slightly longer sprint. This gal will be tracking the pace ready to strike in the stretch.

#6 Our Golden Girl (Geroux / Ladner) should challenge with the highest last out speed number and a two race progression. She loves the surface, distance and track which adds to her appeal. This gal should be tracking the pace closely ready to spring.

#4 Crimson Feline (Graham / C. Richards) should be able to compete well with the fourth highest last out speed number and a two race progression. She a specialist over the track and distance. She should be tracking the pace seeking to sprout in the stretch.

#5 Catherine's Dream (Beschizza / Mouton) should be in the mix with a dull effort over the turf last out, but solid efforts over the dirt. She fits in this field well with the third highest speed number at the distance and three superb peaking workouts. Another tracker that should be part of the quickening crew coming into the turn.

Superfecta Sunday at Santa Anita

We check out the Santa Anita Turf on this Superfecta Sunday.

A reduced field of eight will strut to the gate in this annual affair. There is enough speed to create a decent pace. Speed numbers are very close making this any gal's race. the race becomes even more intriguing as the sole scratch, #2 Fault won the Santa Margarita yesterday. This running of the Santa Ana should not only be exciting, but profitable for the horseplayer. Our task is to knit together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#1 Madam Dancealot [IRE] (Nakatani / Baltas) might have a slight edge with the second highest last out speed number and three quality peaking workouts. She loves the Turf and sports a 100% in the money record at this distance from two efforts. A daughter of Sir Prancealot [IRE], she should track and close gracefully.

#8 Midnight Crossing [IRE] (Blanc / Baltas) comes back from a little foray on the Gulfstream Park Turf. She holds the fourth highest last out speed number and three hearty peaking workouts. This gal has already won over the Santa Anita course in her only effort. A daughter of Dark Angel [IRE], she could be forwardly placed ready to strike in the stretch. #9 Sassy Little Lila (Prat / Mandella) has the capability of wiring this field if left loose on the lead. She holds the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three strong peaking workouts. This daughter of Artie Schiller relishes the distance and the Santa Anita course.

Stakes Saturday on the Synth

The girls have their shot over the polytrack on this Stakes Saturday.

Turfway Park Race 9 {Bourbonette Oaks~G3~1 mile~3 year-old~Fillies}

A great group of nine will go to the gate in this annual prep feature for the Kentucky Oaks.  There is some speed which should produce an honest pace. Speed numbers are fairly close. Only a couple have yet to run over synthetic, but both should be able to handle it nicely. This should be a highly competitive event for these future stars.

#2 Consolida [GB] (Van Dyke / Gallagher) is coming in from the West Coast. She holds the highest last out speed number, albeit over the Tapeta at Golden Gate. This gal has run over the synthetic successfully across the pond in Great Britain. She comes into this race working a three race progression and putting in two hearty workouts. A daughter of Sir Percy [GB], she should track and go.

#11 Go Noni Go (Gaffalione / Maker) will challenge with the third highest (tie) last out speed number and four strong workouts. She should be forwardly placed ready to strike coming into the stretch. A daughter of Get Stormy, she does hold the highest speed number at the distance.

#9 Homemade Salsa (Landeros / Maker) should contend sharing the third highest last out speed number, working a three race progression, and putting in two robust workouts. This gal relished the surface, distance and the Turfway track. A daughter of Two Step Salsa, she should track and close efficiently.

#10 Bet She Wins (Jimenez / Block) comes into this race off a reasonable layoff. She has been successful, hitting the board in her two starts at this distance. Putting in three credible workouts, she will be tracking the pace and pounce in the stretch. A daughter of First Samurai, she has a victory over the Poly at Arlington International.

Superfecta Sunday Turf Action

On this Superfecta Sunday as well as Selection Sunday for the NCAA Basketball Tournament, we look toward Florida for a little Turf action.

Gulfstream Park Race 9 {7 1/2 Furlongs~TURF~4 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~Optional Claiming}

This race should shape up as a royal battle with any of these ladies having a chance for the win. There is speed o plenty as several will be forwardly placed pitched for battle. Speed numbers are very close. it should be one of the best Turf races on the card. Our task is to weld together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.


#3 Summer Luck (Gaffalione / Casse) is coming off a modest break, but appears ready to compete well. She holds a couple of nice last out speed numbers and three super strong peaking workouts. This gal was last seen at Keeneland in a higher level allowance over a longer route. She has the tactical speed to sit with the pace and launch her run in the stretch. She is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.
$3 SHOW.

#5 Miss O'Hara (Lezcano / Arnold) should compete with the third highest last out speed number, a six race progression, and one power bullet workout. She too has the tactical speed to stay the course. This gal loves the distance and the Gulfstream course.

#8 Arthemisa (Jaramillo / Gonzalez) should be in the mix with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and one dynamite workout. She has notched five career wins from thirty-four starts. A hard knocking girl that will benefit from a swift pace.

#4 Farcical Feline (Zayas / Goldberg) should challenge with a couple of good last out speed numbers where she hit the board in both. This gal relishes the distance and the Gulfstream course holding an 83% and 80% in the money record respectively. She should be traveling close to the pace.

A Little FL and NY for Stakes Saturday

Derby points are on the line in Florida, New York, and California. On this Stakes Saturday, "Let's Play Two" as the late Hall of Famer, Ernie Banks (CUBS) used to say. We take a look at the Florida and New York KD 144 prep races. Based on the competitive of the two races we will box our 10 CENT Superfecta plays.

Tampa Bay Downs Race 11 {Tampa Bay Derby~G2~1 1/16 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A very good field of nine will hit the Tampa dirt in this annual Derby prep race. There is plenty of speed to keep a steamy race. Those that have already campaigned over the Tampa dirt might have the edge. Speed numbers are reasonably close to make for a competitive event. It could be the more exciting of the three Derby prep races running on this Stakes Saturday.

#5 Flameaway (Lezcano / Casse) might have a very slight edge with the second highest last out speed number, a five race progression, and two sturdy workouts. He has already won over the Tampa oval and will be seeking his third win in a row. A son of Scat Daddy, he has tactical speed to sit a sound trip.

#8 World of Trouble (I. Ortiz / Ja Servis) will pose a significant challenge with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two stout workouts. He will be stretching out to a route after winning last out on the Tampa track. A son of Kantharos, he should be the roaring speed of the field.

#3 Vino Rosso (J. Velazquez  / Pletcher) should contend with the third highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two sound workouts. He has already hit the board twice in his two starts over the Tampa Bay dirt. A son of Curlin, he should take up a close tracking position ready to strike.

#10 Quip (Geroux / Brisset) could surprise coming off a layoff. He show a couple of o.k. last out speed numbers and four powerful workouts in preparation for this race. This guy has won two of his three career races. A son of Distorted Humor, he has the tactical speed to slot right into the pace of the race.

Aqueduct Race 10 {Gotham~G3~1 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A fascinating race as two in this were also entered for the Tampa Bay Derby, but have chosen this one to make their way along the Derby trail. A field of nine will go to the gate. There is enough speed to provide a swift pace. Speed numbers are fairly close which should insure a competitive race. Interestingly, only a couple have raced over the Aqueduct track. It should be a very good race.

#5 Firenze Fire (M. Franco / Ja Servis) could have the edge with the third highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two hearty workouts. This guy has already hit the board twice in his last two efforts at Aqueduct. Also, he does have two victories at the mile distance. A son of Poseidon's Warrior, he should be tracking the pace and kick it in.

#6 Free Drop Billy (D. Davis  / Romans) should challenge with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three strong workouts. He is dropping in distance from a longer route for this Derby prep. A son of Union Rags, he is another that will be tracking the pace and should be appreciative of the New York dirt.
$1 PLACE  /  $2 SHOW.

#9 Enticed (Alvarado  / McLaughlin) will contend with a couple of very good last out speed numbers and two robust workouts. Yet another that should track the pace nicely. Superb connections have patiently guided this lad along the Derby trail. This could be a breakout race for this son of Medaglia d'Oro.

#8 Nine Route (Carmouche / J. Englehart) should be the speed demon leading the front end. He holds the fourth highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and two nice workouts. A son of The Factor, he will be shooting for his fourth win in a row.

Superfecta Sunday in South Florida

A little Florida sunshine on our Superfecta Sunday.

Gulfstream Park Race 11 {7 1/2 Furlongs~TURF~4 year-old Up~Claiming}

A reduced field of seven will hit the green in this claiming event. There should be enough speed to keep a swift pace to this long dash. Speed numbers are reasonably close giving the race a competitive feel to it. Our task is to string together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#3 Wage Acceleration (Gaffalione / C. Brown) should be the post-time favorite given the powerful connections. This lad holds the highest last out speed number and two solid workouts. He is 83% in the money from six career starts. His tactical speed will serve him well in this race.

#2 Waldi (J. Ortiz / DiAngelo) should be in contention with the highest speed number at the distance coming into this event. He loves the surface, distance and Gulfstream course. He is another with tactical speed and should travel close to the pace. He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#6 Wannabeaplayer (L. Saez / Walder) should challenge with the third highest last out speed number and a two race progression. This guy is yet another with the tactical speed to hang with the leadership. He is fantastic at this distance (85% itm) and over the Gulfstream course (83% itm).

#5 Cosmic Thunder (Rosario / Dixon) will benefit from a quick pace. He holds the fourth highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two hearty workouts. This lad is coming out of a longer route in his last and has hit the board in his only effort at this distance.

Stakes Saturday FOY

Stakes Saturday rolls up on us and we take a look at another Kentucky Derby prep with quite a few talented runners seeking Derby points.

Gulfstream Park Race 14 {Xpress Bet Fountain of Youth~G2~1 1/16 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

Another great crew of Derby aspirants will line up in this annual prep. There is sufficient speed to keep a strong pace on. Speed numbers are fairly close making this a super competitive event. It should be another exciting KD 144 prep race and one of the best races on this Stakes Saturday.

#6 Good Magic (J. Ortiz / C. Brown) is last year's 2 year-old champ making his season debut. The only millionaire in the bunch, he holds the highest last out speed number (prior to a modest layoff), a three race progression, and four outstanding peaking workouts. This son of Curlin has been well prepped by his connections. Sure to be overwhelming favorite we will make a token win wager on him.

#4 Strike Power (L. Saez / Hennig) will be stretching out, striving to make his third win in a row. He holds the second highest last out speed number and two solid peaking workouts. This guy has won those two over the Gulfstream track in his only career starts. A son of Speightstown, he will be part of the speedsters on the front end.

#8 Marconi (Castellano / Pletcher) will be cutting back in distance for this one after achieving a 100% in the money record from three career starts.
