Hollywood Park Race 7 {6 furlongs~TURF~3 year old Up~fillies/mares~CA~Optional Claiming}
A good group of ten Turf fillies and mares will make their way to the gate in this race.  A very nice balance of speed, pressers, trackers, and closers for a splendid Turf sprint.  Any one of these gals could pull off the victory.

Return to Hollywood Turf Action

A splendid horse racing weekend concludes with a look at a Turf battle at Hollywood Park.  The Thanksgiving weekend closes and still we give thanks to our equine heros.

Hollywood Park Race 9 {Hollywood Derby~G1~1 1/4 mile~TURF~3 year old Up~Stakes}
A difficult race to calibrate with a fully diverse field of twelve.  Only three have gone this distance and all three can be expected to be a major factor in the race.  Based on running styles it may be a race of the forwardly placed.

#3 Slumber [GB] (Gomez / Hills) is an Euro invader that seemingly has the advantage as he is 100% in the money over three races at this distance.  He has put in a peaking three furlong workout prepping for this race and ran an outstanding race last out in Britain.  Also operating with a three race progression.  Could be the one to beat.
$2 SHOW.

#12 Wilcox Inn (Albarado / Stidham) may the best to be put up against the Euro breds.  He has also managed this distance with aplomb, placing fourth in the grade one Secretariat.  He holds the second best last out speed number and has put in four fantastic workouts leading up to this race.
$2 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#5 Casino Host (Talamo / C. Brown) will come a runnin' with the highest speed number at the distance and four superb workouts.  He comes off a freshening and looks ready to tangle with this bunch.

Aqueduct Race 8 {Cigar Mile Handicap~G1~1 mile~3 year old Up~Stakes}
An evenly matched group of seven line up for this annual affair.  Two will be a single wagering interest.  There is some significant speed in this race and with controlling, modest fractions they could come out ahead of the trackers and closers.  Excitement level will rate high as all are well known horses making the run.

#3 Haynesfield (Dominguez / Asmussen) looks the best prepared for this race with a strong last out speed number, a two race progression, and three superb, peaking workouts.  Add to that the terrific year trainer, Steve Asmussen is having and you have a formula for potential victory.

Hey, Hey Hollywood Turf

The beautiful thing about the Thanksgiving weekend is that many people seek out entertainment venues to have a full, exceptional weekend.  Whether it be a college basketball game, movie, or better yet, a horse race, these types of activities make for a well rounded four day vacation.

Today we go to the Hollywood Turf.  Much better than a Hollywood movie.

Hollywood Park Race 7 {1 1/4 mile~Turf~Optional Claiming}
A delightful field of eight will make their way to the gate in this TURF battle.  Not much speed indicates that it could be a fairly bunched up group that will battle in the stretch.

#7 Hiatus (Smith / Hess) has a tiny edge with the second highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and three aggressive workouts.  This guy should close quickly in the stretch outleaning the others at the wire.

$2 SHOW.

#6 Yodelen Dan (M. Garcia / Mullins) is the grizzled veteran seeking yet another victory.  He holds the highest speed number at the distance and sports a 100% in the money record at the same.  Another who relishes the Hollywood Turf, he should put in a game performance.

10 CENT Superfecta

#7 Hiatus / #2 Jairzihno [GB] / #3 Antidote / #1 Erbeia, #6 Yodelen Dan.

Churchill Downs Race 11 {Falls City Handicap~G2~1 1/8 mile~3 year old Up~fillies/mares}
A fantastic field of ten will assemble for this turkey day racing feast.  A little speed, some trackers and a crew of closers will make this race appealing.  There is no clear favorite and it should be a highly ccompetitive race.

#10 Ravi's Song (Lanerie / Bowman) has a very slight edge with the second highest (three-way tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and three stellar, peaking workouts.  She will be among the group of closers angling for the win.

#2 It's Tea Time (Cruz / Arnold) could surprise with the third highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two strong, peaking workouts.  She is another of the closers looking for an opening to hit the wire first.

#2 Gypsy [GB] (Prado / Motion) will be among the contenders if it stays on Turf.  She holds a 66% in the money record while racing in France.  Prior to her lengthy layoff she won her last race, a longer route, and was on the verge of a two race progression.  In preparation for this race she put in four tremendous workouts.  She could be victorious.

A Mudder Alternative
Should this race move to the slop and mud there are two fillies to consider.

#13 Globe Trot (Albarado / Romans) is signed up for the main track only (MTO) and has competed well over an off track.  Holding the highest speed number in such conditions while in the money in her two efforts.

Ole` The Bullring

A Stakes Saturday awakens.  Today we peer at a race that essentially begins the road to the 2012 Kentucky Derby.  It is the Jackpot at Delta Downs.  The winner of this race will most assuredly be guaranteed a start at KD 138, notwithstanding any injuries.

Delta Downs Race 7 {Delta Downs Jackpot~G3~1 1/16 mile~2 year old~Stakes}
This showcase race can be considered the unofficial start of the Kentucky Derby trail.  An excellent field of ten will be assembled for the start.  This years field of exceptional two year olds have the talent to make it to the gate on the first day of May 2012.  Expect a few minutes of heart pounding excitement as they race around the little track that could.

Breeder's Cup Championships 2011--Day Two

We viewed some very nice racing in yesterday's races at Churchill Downs.  Today is the BIG day.  Some of the best horses in the world make their starts looking to go down in the history books.  Stand ready for some heart-pounding excitement in Day 2 of the 2011 Breeder's Cup Championships.

We shall take a peak at a couple of the longer races which should be just as interesting as the marquee events on the race card.

Churchill Downs Race 3 {BC Marathon~G2~1 3/4 mile~3 year old Up~Stakes}
A premium field of eleven will enter the gate for the longest race of the Championships.  As many of the commentators mentioned yesterday, the track is playing very fairly.  Hence no bias.  This group of well prepped horses will show their stuff over a very good track.  With a very little speed, most will clomped together mid-pack awaiting the quickening in the final turn.  This should be some fine racing.

#10 Eldaafer (Castellano / Alvarado) is defending champ and appears to have been excellently prepared for this big one.  His two prep races combined with his superb peaking workout tab give him the edge.  He should make his move from a tracking position.
$2 SHOW.

#6 Brigantin (Leparoux / Fabre) is a long distance running colt who looks magnificently prepped for this long one.  His last out third place finish was in a two and a half mile journey over Turf at Longchamp in France.  If he makes a smooth transition from his Turf surface to the Churchill dirt, he could make a great closing run.
$2 SHOW.

#5 Giant Oak (Bridgmohan / Block) was fifth in last year's BC Marathon.  He has compiled a couple of decent last out efforts and should be running late trying to grab a big piece of the purse pie.  His three workouts are solid which should help him improve upon last year's effort.
$2 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#11 A.U Miner (Borel / Hanna) should be a major factor in this race.  He is a closing type that could run all day.  He holds a terrific last out triple digit speed number and has put in two athletic, peaking workouts.  He will challenge in the stretch.

#4 Pleasant Prince (Rosario / Ward) appears up to the task, despite not having gone this marathon distance.  He holds a quality last out speed number, a two race progression, and five endurance building workouts.  He could surprise with his tracking style.

Churchill Downs Race 8 {Emirates Airlines BC Turf~G1~1 1/2 mile~Turf~3 year old Up~Stakes}
This race sports a tremendous field of nine including two successful gals.  With only a modicum of speed, watch for a European style race where the fractions start off slow and there is a final rush to the wire.  This should be a great race over good Turf.  Expect the Euros to dominate.

#1 St. Nicholas Abby [IRE] (O'Brien / O'Brien) looks strongest of the Euro runners with a couple of nice last out performances at Longchamp.  He is an 80% in the money performer, is on a three race progression, and holds five wins.  Should be in mid-pack with the others.
$2 SHOW.

#9 Midday [GB] (Queally / Cecil) hopes to improve on last year's second place performance.  This mare is 100% in the money at this distance.  She will challenge mightily in the stretch.  This gal should be part of the Euro sweep of this race.
$2 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#7 Sea Moon [GB] (Moore / Stoute) will come running after the rest in the lane.  He is another that is 100% in the money in a five race career in jolly ole England.  He has a victory at this distance.  This guy is coming off a third place finish in a longer route group one and will not doubt be a major factor in this race.

#2 Sarafina [FR] (Lemaire / De Royer) is the filly that will challenge the boys with her superlative racing record of six wins out of ten career starts.  Her last three races have all been at this distance.  She looks ready, willing, and able to pull off a victory.

It has arrived.  Breeder's Cup 2011.   The greatest horse racing spectacular in North America.
On this fantastic Friday we look at a couple of quality races on the BC 2011 card.
Let the excitement begin!!

Churchill Downs Race 3 {Ack Ack Handicap~G3~1 1/16 mile~3 year old Up~Stakes}
A wonderful field of seven will line up for this annual graded stakes race.  It should make for a good handicapping warm-up before the big BC 2011 races begin.  The field has parity in its speed numbers and solid work tabs.  It should be a fine race.

#4 Mister Marti Gras (Leparoux / Block) looks ready to close down this field with the second highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three robust, peaking workouts.  He likes the distance and should be ready to roll in the stretch run.
$2 SHOW.

#5 Glenwood Canyon (Albarado / Stall) will challenge with the highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and one sinewy workout.  He could track the pace and mount an explosive run heading for home.
$2 SHOW.

#3 Gladding (Bejarano / Sadler) looks ready to run on the front end sharing the highest last out speed number, holding a two race progression, and putting in four strengthening workouts.  He could outlast them all.

Churchill Downs Race 9 {Emirate Airlines BC Fillies and Mares Turf~G1~1 3/8 mile~TURF~3 year old Up~fillies/mares~Stakes}
This race stacks up with some of the best female Turfers in the world.  Again, this year the Euros should dominate the Turf races on both days of the Breeder's Cup.  This race might have an American bred horse finish in the top five.  All the Euros look exceptionally talented.

#2 Stacelita [FRA] (Dominguez / C. Brown) looks prepped to run down this field with two great last out efforts and three superb workouts.  Since setting hooves down on American soil she has raced very well.  She holds a top speed number at the distance.  Watch her to close ferociously.
$2 WIN / $3 SHOW.

#6 Announce [GB] (Guyon / Fabre) has raced valiantly overseas and should bring that form into this race.  She has strong in the money performances over the Turf and at the distance.  Look for her to press the pace seeking to get first run in the stretch.
$2 SHOW.

#5 Nahrain [GB] (Dettori / Varian) brings perfection to the table with four straight wins in a four race career.  Each of her four races progressively better than the last.  She could challenge our top selection with a nice tracking effort.
$2 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#12 Misty For Me [IRE] (Moore / O'Brien) looks ready to run well on the front end hoping to hold off any tracker / closer challengers.  She holds a 70% in the money record over the Turf in a ten race career.  She could surprise.

#1 Dubawi Heights [GB] (Rosario / Callaghan) could one of the Southern Cal based horses that has a mighty good effort while being forwardly placed.  She has had a couple of solid last out speed numbers and has put in three athletic, peaking workouts.  Although British bred, she could be the sole American based horse to grab a piece of the purse pie.

Santa Anita Race 7 {1 mile~Turf~3 year old Up~fillies/mares~Optional Claiming}
A closely matched field of eight will step onto the grass for this one.  All have been adequately prepped for the race with strong workouts.  This field has nice balance in terms of racing styles.  It should be a good race.

#1 Princess Suances (Blanc / Vienna) has a solid edge if she can control the pace.  She is a speedster and will most assuredly be motoring on the front end.  She had a decent last out speed number in her sole start this year and has put in three fantastic workouts. This gal could wire the field.
