Stakes Saturday in the Warmth

On this Stakes Saturday we are going long on the Turf.

Gulfstream Park Race 9 {H. Allen Jerkens Stakes~2 miles~TURF~4 year old Up~Stakes}
A great group of eleven will go long on the green in the inaugural running of this event. There are a few in here that should be forwardly placed, but these long distance affairs are typically plodding races with a quickening in the stretch. Only one has gone this distance. This should be a good one to watch and wager.

#3 Reflecting (Prado / McGuaghey) might have a slight edge having already hit the board at this distance. He holds the third highest last out speed number and has put in four superb workouts. This son of Elusive Quality should be tracking the pace ready to make a move going into the final turn.

#11 Artic North (Lopez / Reynolds) should challenge with the second highest last out speed number, a five race progression, and three strong workouts. He is another that should track the pace. This son of North Light [IRE] is coming off a longer rest, but should be able to hig the Turf running.

#2 Unitarian (Castellano / Pletcher) could show favoritism with the highest last out speed number and two robust workouts. He loves the surface and this course and should travel smoothly over it readying a closing kick. This son of Pulpit should be able to get the distance.

Furlong Friday on Sunny Turf

We take a peek at a wonderful Turf sprint in Southern Florida.

Gulfstream Park Race 9 {5 furlongs~TURF~3 year old~fillies~Optional Claiming}
A superb field of nine will take to the green in this feature race. There is enough speed signed on to keep the pace swift. These are still improving fillies so it should be a highly competitive contest.

#2 Presto Magic (Castellano / Breen) might have the edge with the highest last out speed number and a two race progression. She has posted a victory at this sprint distance which earned her the top speed fig at same. This gal should sit close to the pace ready to spring heading for home.

#4 Spanish Pipedream (R. Hernandez / Ward) is coming off and extended layoff, but appears ready for this turf tussle with a strong workout tab of four works. She was last seen at Ascot [GB] earning a solid Racing Post rating and securing a fourth place finish. This lass should challenge mightily.

Superfecta Sunday in Tampa

Superfecta Sunday already?! Yes, as we take a look at a fine Turf battle near the Gulf coast of Florida.

Tampa Bay Downs Race 10 {1 mile~TURF~4 year old Up~Claiming}
A splendid field of ten will take to the green in this contentious turf battle. There is plenty of speedy and forwardly placed types to keep the pace rolling. All in here are displaying somewhat similar speed figs with varying results last out. It should be a very competitive event. Our task is to try to hook four together to hit a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#9 Roman Officer (Vega / Dini) might sneak up on these with the third highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three powerful workouts. Expect this lad to be close to the pace and spring into the stretch with a dashing run. He is coming off a longer route which may aid his effort.

#3 Spivey (Figueroa / Raymond) should challenge with a couple of decent last out speed figures in which he hit the board in both. This lad is 100% in the money at this distance and has put in two robust workouts. He should travel just off the pace ready to strike. Our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#5 Go Bernie Go (De La Cruz / Navarro) will contend with a couple of decent last out speed figs. He should be the speed of the speed and might not surrender to easily coming off a longer route. This guy shows a 60% in the money performance at the mile distance from five starts.

#4 Huntstown (Lebron / Mogge) should be in the hunt with the highest speed number at the distance, a couple of decent last out speed numbers, and one solid workout. He too should be following the pace closely seeking an opening to drive into the stretch.

Stakes Saturday Santa Anita Style

Stakes Saturday is here. Today we look at a Turf mile at beautiful Santa Anita.

Santa Anita Race 5 {California Cup Oaks~1 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~fillies~CA~Stakes}
An improving lot of eight Californian fillies will take to the grass in this stakes feature.  There is plenty of speed which should make for a rapid pace. The speed figs for these gals are relatively close. It should be a fantastic competition.

#4 Heat the Rocks (Trujillo / Hollendorfer) might have a slight edge with the fourth highest last out speed number and five outstanding peaking workouts. This filly will be hitting the TURF for the first time, but has the pedigree as a daughter of Unusual Heat. She should be sitting right off the pace ready to spring into the stretch.

#6 Light One (Bejarano / Hollendorfer) will challenge with the third highest last out speed number and three superb workouts.  This filly should be tracking the pace ready to strike at the top of the stretch. She is another that will take to the green for the first time. As a daughter of Comic Strip she is coming off two very good performance over the Tapeta at Golden Gate Fields.

Furlong Friday at Oaklawn

Best of luck to all those players in the 2015 National Handicapping Championship at Treasure Island in Las Vegas, Nevada.

On this Furlong Friday we take in a snappy sprint at magnificent Oaklawn Park.

A good crop of nine will go to the gate in this featured claimer. Half the field is speedsters so there should be some good pace. All of them have had layoffs, from short freshenings to lengthy ones. It should be a highly competitive event.

Thursday Florida Turf Sprint

We start our horse racing weekend with a little Florida Turf race.

A decent group of nine will take to the green in this afternoon sprint.  All of these gals are dropping in class from their last out efforts. The speed numbers are relatively close and the pace should be slightly speedy. It should be a good race.

#5 Boller Bomb (L. Saez / Weaver) could have a slight edge with the second highest last out speed number at a route race and two strong workouts. She could sit nicely right off the pace ready to strike coming out of the turn. This gal comes in from sunny California.

It is Superfecta Sunday already.  Today we look at a competitive Turf sprint down in New Orleans.

A real nice crew of nine will take to the grass in this featured Turf sprint. the speed numbers are very close making this a contentious race. There is enough speed signed on to make a significant spark in pace. Our task is try to blend together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#9 Forest Elf (Graham / Stidham) might have the edge with the third highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two gracious workouts. This lad has the ability to sit right off the pace and enter the stretch with flourish. He has a terrific 87% in the money record at this distance from eight starts. Stakes Saturday in New Orleans

A smashing Stakes Saturday across the country.  Today we take a look at what could be considered a prep for the Derby races down the trail.

A great group of eleven will compete in this superb graded stakes race. It does come up a little light on speed, but there are a few in here that like to be forwardly placed. Many of these lads are on an improvement path where any of them can step up and take this one. it is a very intriguing race.

#11 Eagle (Hernandez / Howard) could come off as the favorite with the highest last out speed number at a longer route, a four race progression, and four sensational peaking workouts. This son of Candy Ride [ARG], will be running late into a legitimate pace. He is experienced at this distance, having hit the board twice at it.

We take a look at a nice dirt route in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

On to Hot Springs, Arkansas for the start of our horse racing weekend where we will take in a sprint for the fillies.

An fabulous group of nine fillies are prepared to go to the gate in this opening day stakes race. There is a ton of speed which should produce lightening fractions. All but one in here are coming into this race with brief freshenings. Half the field have near equal speed figures and the other half are embarking on improvement in their first race of the year. It should be a dandy of a race.

#6 Promise Me Silver (Berry / Calhoun) should be the favorite with the highest last out speed number, the highest speed number at the distance, and a three race progression. This gal will be seeking her fifth career victory in her fifth career start. She has the tactical speed to stay close and sweep into the lane.

#10 Empressive Humor (Santana / Asmussen) should challenge with the fourth highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and four impressive peaking workouts. She should be sitting just off the pace ready to strike. This gal could make another improvement forward.

Derby Prep for Stakes Saturday

On to another Kentucky Derby prep race for this Stakes Saturday.

Santa Anita Park Race 6 {Sham~G3~1 mile~3 year old~Graded Stakes}
A very good field of eight will go to the gate in this Derby prep race. Half the filed shows speed and the other half has an affinity towards coming from off the pace.  Speed figs are fairly close which should make for a competitive race. Another good one gearing towards that first Saturday in May.

#7 Calculator (Trujillo / Miller) has the edge with the highest speed number at a longer route, a four race progression, and three fabulous workouts. This son of Summation might have the proper pace to run into the stretch. Despite being a maiden, he has run tremendously in his four race career.

#3 Rockinatten (Bejarano / O'Neill) should contend with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and four superb peaking workouts. #2 Hammer's Terror (Leparoux / Lynch) might have a slight edge with the highest (tie) last out speed number, a three race progression, and one solid workout. He should be forwardly placed ready to strike. This lad is the only one in this group with a victory over the Gulfstream course.

#7 Sachem Spirit (Lanerie / Kenneally) is coming into this fresh off a brief layoff. He holds the third highest (3-way tie) last out speed number, a three race progression, and two superb workouts. He has the ability to run with the forwardly placed and also track the pace. This is his first try over the Gulfstream Turf.

Turf Sprint Starts Our Horse Racing Weekend

We're off and running into the second horse racing weekend of the year. Today we look at a dandy Turf Sprint down in sunny Florida.

A tenacious field of nine will take to the grass in this afternoon feature. As expected, there are a number of speedsters and forwardly placed types in this Turf sprint. The speed figs come up close for each. It could be any of these gals race.

#1 Zamquick (Lanerie / Kenneally) might have the advantage with a ground saving trip as she should be forwardly placed. She holds the second highest last out speed number at a slightly longer sprint and has put in two robust workouts during a brief layoff. This gal has the tactical speed to stay with the competition.

Other Wagering Interests

#4 Indian Splendor (G. Saez / Servis) could be the favorite with the highest last out speed number at a longer sprint, a two race progression, and one peaking workout. She should be motoring on the front end seeking to hold off all challengers.

#10 Wellington's Appeal (Bocachica / Navarro) will challenge with the highest speed number at the distance and three superb workouts during a brief freshening. She has the tactical speed to see how the pace develops and then take advantage of it.

#2 Runaway Giant (Leparoux / Wilkes) could surprise with the third highest (tie) last out speed number, a three race progression, and one solid workout. Should the pace become hot, expect her to come through the stretch in fast fashion.

Superfecta Sunday at Tampa Bay

On the first Superfecta Sunday of the new year, we check out a nice Turf contest near the Gulf.

Tampa Bay Downs Race 7 {1 mile~TURF~4 year-old Up~fillies/mares~Claiming}
A sweet field of ten will take to the green in this Turf feature.  There is plenty of speed and forwardly placed types to keep an honest pace. There is no significant difference in speed numbers making it a competitive race. Our task is to hand roll (like a good cigar) a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#10 Showersofblessings (Homeister / Boyce) could benefit from a strong pace with a couple of nice last out performances and two hearty workouts. She is 100% in the money over TURF from two starts hitting the third highest speed number among this group on that surface. This gal should be close to the pace ready to strike. She is our Bronze Horseshoe runner.
$1 SHOW.

#7 Grand Cat (Centeno / Hernandez) could be the favorite with the highest last out speed number at a longer route and a four race progression. She also holds the highest speed number over the Tampa Bay Turf. The gal will be part of the forwardly placed contingent.

#9 Glory Style (Morales / Einhorn) should compete will with the second highest last out speed number at a longer route, a two race progression, and one solid workout. She will benefit greatly from a hot pace with her tracking and closing style.

#1 Carey Princess (Ferrer / Harvatt) should be the speed of the race from the inside rail with the third highest last out speed number and one robust workout.  She holds the highest speed number at the distance with a good in the money record of 69% at same. This gal could wire the field.

Also Eligible

#11 Let It Slam (Mojica / Leonard) could be a serious threat if she draws in. She holds a couple of decent last out speed numbers and has put in three superb workouts. This gal holds the second highest speed number at the distance and is 100% in the money from two tries at same. If she is in the race, she could close them down.

Aqueduct R8.  Jerome--G3.  Our first pick, Nasa, finished 2nd for place money of $4.60 and show money of $6.30.  Our second pick, El Kabeir, won (1st) for place money of $1.60 and show money of $2.60.  Our third pick, Tencendur, was scratched.
Superfecta went 9-8-6-7.

Stakes Saturday with a KD Prep

We race into January with an outstanding Kentucky Derby Prep race in wonderful New York.

Aqueduct Race 8 {Jerome~G3~1 mile70 yards~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}
This marks the first of the Kentucky Derby prep races for this years KD 141. We have a field of nine quality horses seeking the points required to get into the gate of twenty that will go off on that first Saturday in May. There is a ton of speed in this race which might set up nicely for one coming from off the pace. Most in here are coming off a brief freshening.  As improving lads, the speed figs are relatively comparable. It should be a supremely exciting race.

#8 Nasa (Carmouche / Servis) has the running style versatility to get the job done. He holds the second highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and one solid workout. As a son of Smarty Jones, he will be stretching for this route. He relishes the dirt and is 100% in the money from four career starts.

#9 El Kabeir (Borel / Terranova) could be the one to beat, currently ranking number three on the Kentucky Derby prep list. He holds the highest speed number last out and at the distance. This guy is working a three race progression and has put in three powerful peaking workouts. This son of Scat Daddy will be showing speed from the outside post.

#3 Tencendur (Rose / Weaver) should take another step forward in his second start. He holds the fourth highest last out speed number and has put in two quality peaking workouts. This son of Warrior's Reward will be tracking the pace and should it become explosive, he will take full advantage of it.

#1 Mini Cosmo (Arroyo / Motion) is another stretching out seeking to continue his improvement. He holds the third highest (tie) last out speed number, a three race progression, and has put in one modest workout. This son of Unbridled Energy should have the fortitude to stay with these fellas to grab a piece of the purse pie.

#7 Ackeret (I. Ortiz / Rodriguez) should contend sharing the second highest last out speed number, working a two race progression, and putting in two superb peaking workouts. This son of Mach Ride should be tracking and closing swiftly in the stretch.

Friday in the Southern California Sun

Today we take a peek at a good Turf mile race in the Southern California sun.

Santa Anita Park Race 6 {1 mile~TURF~4 year old Up~Optional Claiming}
A good group of ten will take to the grass in this mile Turf race. It appears to be a speed laden event that could have an interesting outcome. The speed numbers are very comparable making it even more of challenge.

#2 Horizontalyspeakin (Espinoza / Sadler) might be able to edge out the field with the highest last out speed number at a longer route, a two race progression, and four sensational peaking workouts. This lad should be forwardly placed ready to strike.
$2 SHOW.

#7 Mega Heat (Nakatani / Eurton) should pose the fiercest challenge with the second highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two stout workouts. This lad will be the first to pick off the speedsters if they develop a hot pace.

#8 Super Ability (Smith / Gaines) should challenge with the third highest (3-way tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and four strong workouts. He should also be near the front end ready to make his move through the stretch.

#4 Boozer (Bejarano / Glatt) should contend with a successful last out effort finishing first and putting in three hearty workouts. This guy should also be part of the forwardly placed crew. He has also been quite successful over the surface hitting the board 75% of the time.

On this Thursday, we start our horse racing weekend with a snappy one mile Turf race for the gals at sunny Santa Anita.

Santa Anita Race 8 {Blue Norther Stakes~1 mile~TURF~3 year old~fillies~Stakes}
A dynamic field of ten will hit the grass in this featured stakes race. There is enough speed to keep the pace rolling. Most are coming into this one off a brief freshening which should make this a highly competitive event. Speed figures are close among these improving gals.

#8 Rainha Da Bateria (Smith / Motion) should fire will, particularly if the pace is solid. She holds the highest (tie) last out speed number and has put in one superb workout. This gal also holds the second highest speed number at the distance. She should be closing swiftly into the stretch.
$2 SHOW.

#5 Jaded Glory (Stevens / Proctor) will challenge with the fourth highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three excellent peaking workouts. This filly has a victory over the Santa Anita course. She should be tracking and closing efficiently.

#9 Wedding Blush (Bejarano / Moger) should contend holding the highest last out speed number, working a two race progression, and putting in three hearty workouts. She should be part of the front end crew motoring for position. This will be her first turf try.

#4 Lutine Belle (A. Solis / Hollendorfer) should be in the mix sharing the highest last out speed number, working a five race progression, and putting in four supreme workouts. She will be part of the closing group seeking to hit the wire first.

#10 Sea Mona (Espinoza / Sadler) will be in the hunt with the highest speed number at the distance and putting in four athletic workouts. She has a versatile running style that could put her in proper position for victory. Expect her to be close to the pace.
