Dreamin' Of Hollywood

We close out our horse racing weekend on this Sunday at Hollywood Park.

Hollywood Park Race 9 {Hollywood Derby~G1~1 1/4~Turf~3 year old~Stakes}
A very competitive field of eight steps on to the Turf for this annual race.  Only two have gone this distance.  All have a shot at finding their way to the winners circle.  Sebastian Flyte [GB] (Rosario / Cecil) has a slight edge with the highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and four aggressive workouts.  Lions Story (Smith / Hollendorfer) may be one of the surprises with the third highest (tie) last out speed number and three superb workouts.  Citrus Kid (Bejarano / Terranova) looks to be part of the speed duet having already competed at this distance.  He shares the third highest last out speed number, has a two race progression, and has put in three strngthening workouts.  Juniper Pass (Blanc / Bell) is another that will surprise with a perfect record at the distance over two races, a couple of decent last out speed numbers, and three sensational, peaking workouts. Finishing out the weekend with a very slim bankroll, let's play Hollywood Park.

Three Year Old Fillies Have It

Good luck to all those participating in the Westpoint Thoroughbreds / NTRA online handicapping contest today.  It looks like an exceptional line-up of races at Aqueduct, Churchill Downs, and Hollywood Park.  A wonderfully crafted card of ten races.  Details may be found at ntra.com.

Today we look at one of those races at Aqueduct, the grade one Gazelle for three year old fillies.  It should be a great race.

Aqueduct Race 8 {Gazelle~G1~1 1/8 mile~3 year old~fillies~Stakes}
A solid group of eight three year old gals are expected to start in this grade one race.  No Such Word (Thompson / C. Jones) seems to be well suited for the win with the second highest last out speed number, the most overall wins, and three strengthening workouts.  Belle of the Hall (Cohen / Albertrani) looks exceptionally prepared with the highest last out speed number at a sprint, a two race progression, and three athletic workouts.  Expect her to challenge.  Awesome Maria (J. Velazquez / Pletcher) looks ready to challenge as well coming off a Turf race at the same distance and two robust workouts.  Quiet Temper (Castellano / Romans) will be in the mix coming off an extended layoff with four tremendous workouts.  Let's have fun with a race at the "Big A", Aqueduct.

Black Friday at Churchill Downs

While others enjoy their "Black Friday" shopping, we turn our attention to a superb grade one race at Churchill Downs as it nears the close of its fall meet.

Churchill Downs Race 11 {Clark Handicap~G1~1 1/8 mile~3 year old Up~Stakes}
A super quality field of eleven racers will make the start in this annual contest.  Successful Dan (Leparoux / Lopresti) has a slight edge with the highest (tie) last out speed number, a four race progression, and two fantastic workouts.  He also has two wins in two tries over the Churchill track.  Regal Ransom (Lenclud / bin Suroor) will be the speed with a good break out of the gate.  He has three wins in four tries at this exact distance as well as the highest speed number at the distance.  Regal Ransom also has put in a tremendous three workout tab in preparation for this race.  Redding Colliery (Napravnik / McLaughlin) will also show speed at the front end with the other highest last out speed number and three strong, peaking workouts.  Apart (Gomez / Stall) can be expected to challenge with the second highest last out speed number, a seven race progression in as many career starts, and two decent workouts.  Giant Oak (Bridgmohan / Block) may be the surprise seeking some black type before he is brought into the breeding shed.  Giant Oak is coming off an additional furlong route and has put in three dynamic, peaking workouts readying for this race. Jockey,  Shaun Bridgmohan has rode this big guy to some of his best performances. Let's play the world's greatest race track, Churchill Downs.

Thansgiving Day 2010

Happy Thanksgiving to All.

We have much to be thankful for.

Thankful for the magnificent equine athletes that give their best and make horse racing one of the best entertainment values on the planet.

Thankful for the jockeys for their athleticism in guiding the horses on the best trips their quick thinking can give.

Thankful for the trainers who do their best to condition the horses for the races.

Thankful for all of the others involved in the game who work hard and do their best to provide enjoyment to racing fans the world over.

Most importantly we are thankful for the fans of the fantastic sport of horse racing.

Seven Furlong Sunday

To conclude our horse raing weekend we look at two superb seven furlong races; An allowance at Churchill Downs and a stakes race at Hollywood Park.

Churchill Downs Race 8 {7 furlongs~3 year old Up~fillies/mares~Allowance}
A satisfying field of nine will make the start in this nice allowance feature.  Jackie's Express (Leparoux / McPeek) will be the odds on favorite, desevedly so.  She holds the second highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and three great workouts.  Miss Dixie Rose (Borel / Hanna) is best positioned to be the surprise in her second start off a significant layoff.  She holds the highest (tie) last out speed number and two robust workouts.  Concert (Pedroza / Oliver) looks ready with two fourth highest last out speed numbers, a four race progression, and two solid workouts.  Lil' Moor Dixie (Gongalzes / Foley) is coming off a mile route with three strong workouts.  She is ready to scoup a piece of the purse.  Queen of Dreams (Rossi / Adkins) is also in for a piece of the purse coming off a longer route and purshing through two peaking workouts.  Let's play a seven furlong at Churchill Downs.

What a nice stakes race with a small field of six.  Any one of these gals are capable of winning this race.  It is that competitive for these youngsters.  Zazu (Smith / Sadler) looks primed with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and four superlative workouts.  Sugarinthemorning (Valenzuela / McAnally) will be looking for the victory near the front end of this field with the third highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and four sensational, peaking workouts.  Turbulent Descent (Flores / Puype) should go off as the favorite with the highest last out speed number having run only one race and the best workout tab of four high energy, peaking workouts.  Tales in Excess (Rosario / Hollendorfer) will challenge the group with the highest overall speed number and three stamina inducing workouts.  This one will be a tough call for even the most practiced handicapper.  Let's play seven furlongs at Hollywood Park.

Delta Downs R7. Jackpot.  Our first pick, Bug Juice, finished 6th.  Our second pick, Blue Laser, finished 9th.  Superfecta went 1-7-5-9.

A Little Turf; A Little Jackpot

Saturday is for Horse Racing.  Today we look at a couple of very nice stakes races. A 3 year old Turf stakes for talented fillies at Churchill and the Jackpot for 2 year olds at Delta Downs.

A distictive grade two Turf race with eleven talented fillies expected to make the start.  The battle for the victory may come down to three.  Aruna (Dominguez / Motion) may have the most upside potential making her third North American start at a longer route.  She holds the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three stellar workouts.  Fugitive Angel (Napravnik / Shepperd) can be expected to challenge with the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and two healthy workouts.  Also looking to challenge in the stretch will be Snow Top Mountain (Gomez / Proctor) with the highest overall speed number run over the Churchill track, a decent last out speed number off a longer route and four robust workouts.  Seeking to catch a piece of the purse prize will be Gitchee Goomie (A. A very good field of ten will go to the gate for this annual affair.  Bug Juice (Castellano / Levine) looks to have a slight edge moving to a route from the highest last out speed number.  Bug Juice should be part of the speed with a four race progression and four fierce workouts.  Blue Laser (Bridgmohan / Casse) will be the prohibitive favorite with two wins at this distance, a three rae progression, and four strong workouts.  Classic Legacy (Talamo / Baffert) will be a chief challenger with a decent last out speed number and three tough workouts.  Sweet Ducky (Bravo / Breen) will be moving to a little longer route with the fourth highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two significant, peaking workouts.  Rush Now (Albarado / A. Dutrow) will be in the mix with the third highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three hearty workouts.  Let's play the Jackpot at Delta Downs.

Night Turf at Hollywood Park

On this easy going Friday, we look at a nice mile Turf race in the evening at welcoming Hollywood Park.

Hollywood Park Race 1 {1 mile~Turf~3 year old Up~fillies/mares~Allowance}
A small field of five will make the start in this Turf mile.  Only one American bred in the group will make for a lively race.  Late Cuddle [NZ] looks to have the advantage with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two robust workouts.  Spring Style [IRE] may challenge coming off a lengthy layoff.  She holds a decent speed number over a longer route last out and has put in three athletic workouts.  West Hope [BRZ] may surprise with three wel-built, peaking workouts.  She will share speed duties on the front end.  Let's play this easy-going Turf mile at Hollywood Park.

Sunday Sprint at Churchill Downs

On this fine Sunday we will look at a sprint race at Churchill Downs.

Churchill Downs Race 9 {6 1/2 furlongs~3 year old Up~Optional Claiming}
A high quality crew of eight jogs to the gate for this optional claiming sprint.  This will be a great wagering race as there is no one horse with a distinct advantage in here.  Guam Typhoon (Leparoux / Wilkes) will be coming off an extended layoff.  He has one two races off the layoff in the past.  Despite the layoff, he holds the highest last out speed number, a three race progression prior to the layoff, and four smashing workouts.  Kensei (Albarado / Asmussen) is another with proven ability off the layoff and will challenge.  He holds the highest overall speed number and has put in an outstanding five peaking workout tab in preparation for this race.  Success Success (Borel / McGee) is another with some success off the layoff.  He holds the highest speed number at the distance and has put in four well-built, peaking workouts in advance of this race.  Tend (Ouzts / Woodward) will be in the hunt for a piece of this purse as he has run well over the dirt, but is much more of a threat on synthetic.  Tend has the third highest last out speed number and the third highest speed number at the distance.  Let's play a sprint at wonderful Churchill Downs.

Sunday in Kentucky

The 27th Breeder's Cup World Championships were the most visually satisfying in recent memory.  With all kinds of so-called upsets, it was truly heartpounding excitiement to watch.  It also showed that there was parity among the contestants.  The most excting race was the spectacular victory by Goldikova.  What a gifted horse.  The most heartbreaking race was Zenyatta's loss by a nose in the Breeder's Cup Classic.  Though she lost, she is still very much deserving of horse of the year.

Today we enter into the home stretch of our Horse Racing Weekend looking at two fine races back at the scene of the spectacular Breeder's Cup races, Churchill Downs.

Churchill Downs Race 5 {1 mile~Turf~2 year old~Allowance}
Twelve youngsters will go to the gate for this race.  Only one has run over the Churchill ground.  The rest are coming in with experience at great tracks like Keeneland, Saratoga, Arlington Park, Turfway, Presque Isle Downs, and Hoosier.  A great group ready to take on the Turf course on a beautiful fall day.  Lil Bit O'Fun (Gomez / Proctor) is primed and ready to go to the winners circle with the second highest speed number at the distance, a decent last out speed number, and three stout, peaking workouts.  Perragaux (Albarado / Howard) will challenge with the second highest last out speed number coming off a longer route, a two race progression, and three splendid workouts.  Also in the hunt for the victory will be Silver Medallion (Bridgmohan / Brown) with a decent last out speed number at a longer route, a two race progression, and two robust workouts.  Nina Fever (M. A very nice field of seven ladies.  Princess Haya (Desormeaux / O'Callaghan) has a small edge with the fourth highest last out speed number at a longer route, the highest speed number at the distance, and three terrific workouts.  Askbut I Won't Tell (Bridgmohan / Block) will challenge with the second highest speed number at the distance over a synthetic surface, a decent last out speed number, and two hardy workouts.  Paracaidas (Gomez / Pletcher) will be moving up in distance with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two nice workouts.  Kiss Mine (Albarado / Vance) figures in the mix with the highest last out speed number which was the third race in a row she ran the same speed number.  She also has put in two solid workouts.  My Baby Baby (Leparoux / McPeek) will be striding for a piece of this purse with the third highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and one great workout.  Let's play our final race of the horse racing weekend at historic Churchill Downs.

Churchill Downs R8.  BC Mile.  Our first pick, Goldikova [IRE], won (1st) for win money of $4.60.  Our second pick, Gio Ponti, finished 2nd for show money of $3.20.  Our third pick, Court Vision, finished 5th.  Superfecta went 10-3-7-6.
Churchill Downs R10. BC Turf.  Our first pick, Behkabad [FR], finished 3rd for show money of $2.40.  Our second pick, Winchester, finished 4th.  We scuttled the 10 CENT Superfecta play with the scratch of Workforce.  Nonetheless, the superfecta went 8-1-7-2.

Breeder's Cup 2010 Day Two

Some very exciting races with amazing results occured in yesterday's Breeder's Cup World Championships.  Today we look at the races on the Turf.

Churchill Downs Race 4 {BC~Juvenile Turf~G2~1 mile~2 year old~Stakes}
A full field of lucky thirteen will go to the gate.  Humble and Hungry (Peslier / Correas) could be another big surprise in these Championships with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two on a tear workouts.  Banned (Rosario / Proctor) could be another surprise with a decent last out speed number, a three race progression, and three athletic workouts.  Madman Diaries (Sanchez / Ward) looks ready for a big race with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three dynamic workouts.  Deciphering Dreams (Dominguez / R. Dutrow) looks well prepped to face this group with the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number, a three race progression, and three fantastic workouts.  The Euros are expected to be strong and will be a legitimate factor in this race.  A tough one to call.

Churchill Downs Race 8 {BC~Mile~G1~Turf~3 year old Up~Stakes}
Another great race with the best in the world.  Eleven will line up for this race.  Goldikova [IRE] (Peslier / Head) will be defending her championship in this event. She looks solid and will be incredibly tough to beat with a perfect record at this distance.  The great Gio Ponti (Domingez / Clement) will challenge with the shared highest last out speed number and one great workout.  He comes into this with four victories from five starts at this distance.  Court Vision (Albarado / R. Dutrow) will surprise coming into this in high form also sharing the highest last out speed number and four tenacious, peaking workouts.  Sidney's Candy (Rosario / Sadler) will attempt to steal this one on the front end with the greatest workout tab of all competitors in the Championships.  He is also coming off the highest last out speed number with a three race progression and four fabulous bullet workouts in a peaking fashion.  Proviso [GB] (Smith / Mott) will no doubt be in this race to attempt to pluck the victory coming off four grade one wins in a row that is part of a six race progression and two incredibly good, peaking workouts.  This may be one of the most heart pounding races of the Championships.

Churchill Race10 {BC~Turf~G1~1 1/2 mile~3 year old Up~Stakes}
A great field of eight go to the gate.  It is quite possible to see a complete Euro sweep of this race.  The race will come down to two Euros for the victory.  Behkabad [FR] (Lemaire / Rouget) may edge out the favorite, Workforce [GB].  Behkabad [FR] is coming off a fourth place finish in the Arc de Triumphe, Europes premier race.  He gets the edge on the basis of six career wins.  Workforce [GB] (R. Moore / Stoute) will be the overwhelming favorite and deservedly so.  He was the victor in the Arc and should be ready for this race.  Clearly the one to beat.  Winchester (C. Velasquez / Clement) may be the North American surprise with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two robust workouts.  Telling (Castellano / Hobby) will be in the hunt with the second highest last out speed number, a five race progression, and two serious workouts.  Debussy [IRE] (Buick / Gosden) is a Euro already proven on American Turf winning this years Arlington Million.  There is no question he will be a factor in this race with ultra talented William Buick in the irons.  The Turf will be a very competitive contest.

Breeder's Cup 2010 Day One

The last big Racing series is finally upon us as we take a look at four of the six Breeder's Cup races to be run at Churchill Downs today.

Churchill Downs Race 5 {BC~Marathon~G3~1 3/4 mile~3 year old Up~Stakes}
A nice full field of twelve are expected to start.  Giant Oak (Gomez / Block) has a slight edge with the highest last out sped number, a two race progression, and three superb, peaking workouts.  Atoned (Albarado / Howard) will challenge with the second highest speed number at the distance, a two race progression, and three stellar, peaking workouts.  Awesome Gem (D. Flores / Dollase) looks ready to grab a piece with the fourth highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three solid workouts.  Alcomo (Bejarano / Caramoni) will be quickening for a piece of the purse pie with a decent couple of last out triple digit speed numbers and four terrific, peaking workouts.  This race will be a close one.

Churchill Downs Race 6 {BC~Juvenile Fillies Turf~G2~1 mile~Turf~2 year old~fillies~Stakes}
A very full field of fourteen fillies will line up for this race.  More Than Real (Gomez / Pletcher) could surprise them all with the third highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and four solid workouts.  New Normal (Castellano / Frostad) could run away with the race showing early speed.  She has the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and four spectacular workouts.  Winter Memories (Lezcano / Toner) appears to have favoritism with the fourth highest last out speed number coming off a longer route, a two race progression, and two powerful workouts.  Together [IRE] (Murtagh / O'Brien) looks like a solid entry from across the pond that will be in it for a piece of the purse pie.  Quiet Oasis [IRE] (Dettori / Meehan) will also be in the hunt for a piece of the purse as she will be moving up in distance with one of the worldest best riders, Frankie Dettori in the irons.  Flood Plain [GB] (Buick / Gosden) is another euro invader that has to be respected.  It may come down to the Euro youngsters against the North American youngsters to see who can sweep.

A superior quality group of eleven gals will stretch out on the Turf in this race.  This could be made for a European sweep.  Midday [GB] (Quedley / Cecil) is the defending champion and could repeat as she is coming off three victories in a row and has gone an eigth more than this race in her last out.  Keertana (Lezcano / Proctor) could surprise as the only North American to break-up a sweep.  She has the highest speed number at the distance, has a four race progression, and three hearty workouts.  Miss Keller [IRE] (Castellano / Attfield) looks ready with the highest last out speed number, a five race progression, and three fluid workouts.  Pulmania [GB] (Peslier / Fabre) will challenge having gone 110 yards longer in her last out and will be the speed that can hold on for a piece of the purse.  This race is a very tough one to call with the solid talent entered.

An outstanding crop of eleven gals will venture to the gate for this exciting race.  Blind Luck (Rosario / Hollendorfer) is the one to beat with the second highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and four excellent, peaking workouts.  Malibu Prayer (Gomez / Pletcher) is primed to race well with the highest speed number at the distance and four well-built, peaking workouts.  Unbridled Belle (Desormeaux / Mott) looks well prepped with the second highest speed number at the distance and two robust, peaking workouts.  Havre de Grace (Rose / A. Dutrow) will be ready to press the attack and should come away with a piece of the purse with the highest last out speed number, a six race progression, and three hardy workouts.  Also in the mix will be Life At Ten (J. Velazquez / Pletcher) with the fourth highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three forceful, peaking workouts.  This will be a spectacular race.

A Little Tune-up Before the Breeder's Cup

Thursday, the start of an outstanding horse racing weekend.  The Breeders Cup begins tomorrow where the World's best horses, jockey's and trainer's will converge at Churchill Downs to battle for superiority.  The field's will be large and the finishes will be full of heart pounding excitement.

As a little tune-up for the weekend's festivities we will look at a tremendous Turf stakes race at Churchill Downs.
