Superfecta Sunday long on the Turf

A beautiful day down in Houston, Texas as we take in a classic Turf contest on this Superfecta Sunday.

Sam Houston Race Park Race 8 {John B. Connally Turf Cup~G3~1 1/2 mile~TURF~4 year-old Up~Graded Stakes}

A good field of nine will take to the grass in this annual event. There is a little speed which should force the trackers closer to the pace. Speed numbers are fairly close making it a somewhat competitive event. Two millionaires make their appearance seeking to add to their treasure. Our task is to cobble together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#4 Bigger Picture (J. Ortiz / Maker) should be the odds on favorite with the highest last out speed number and three stout workouts. He has already scored two victories over this course from two tries. A son of Badge of Silver, he is exceptional at this distance holding a 72% in the money record from eleven starts.

#3 Lawless West (E. Martin / Offolter) could surprise with the fourth highest last out speed number and two hearty workouts. He loves the Turf and this course. A son of Giant's Causeway, he should be forwardly placed looking to get first run at the leader. He might relish the stretch out in distance. He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#8 Markitoff (Smith / Maker) should challenge with the second highest (tie) last out speed number and three superb workouts. He is another that should enjoy the stretch out in distance. Another son of Giant's Causeway, he should be tracking the pace with a bunch of others.

#9 Cooptado [ARG] (G. Saez / Morley) should contend with the third highest speed number at the distance and one efficient workout. He does have six career wins entering into this contest. A millionaire son of Equal Stripes [ARG], he should be tracking and closing into a solid pace.

Gulfstream Park R11.  Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational--G1.  Our first pick, Bricks and Mortar, won (1st) for win money of $3.80, place money of $4.20, and show money of $4.80.  Our second pick, Catapult, finished 4th.  Our third pick, Yoshida [JPN], finished 6th.
Superfecta went 7-1-8-9. We missed the box by one wagering interest.
Bankroll gains four dimes to settle at $76.51.

Yielding TURF for Stakes Saturday

On this Stakes Saturday, the horses take to the yielding Turf in South Florida.

Gulfstream Park Race 11 {Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational~G1~1 3/16 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~Graded Stakes}

A superior field of ten will take to the Turf in this inaugural big money race. Four millionaires are part of the field as well as three ladies. Speed figs are very close making it anyone's race. There is a couple of speedsters who could take the field through decent early fractions. It could turn into a Euro-style race with a superb quickening heading into the stretch. Be ready for a fantastic race.

#7 Bricks and Mortar (I. Ortiz / C. Brown) looks ready to kick off the year with a stylish win. He holds the highest (three-way tie) last out speed number and three sensational workouts. A son of versatile sire, Giants Causeway, he should be in a tracking position much like the rest of the field. This lad is 100% in the money from seven starts.

#9 Catapult (Rosario / Sadler) should challenge sharing the highest last out speed number and putting in four excellent peaking workouts. He comes in fresh with a reasonable layoff. A son of Kitten's Joy, he too will be tracking the pace. This guy is 68% in the money from sixteen starts.

#2 Yoshida (J. Ortiz / Mott) will contend also with the highest last out speed number at a longer dirt route and four terrific workouts. He should be tracking and closing with vigor. A millionaire son of Hearts Cry [JPN], he is the most versatile horse in the field winning on Turf and dirt. He is 66% in the money from twelve starts.

#1 Magic Wand [IRE] (Lorden / A O'Brien) is one of three fillies challenging the lads. She holds the second highest last out speed number at a longer Turf route. A sensation across the pond, this will be her second North American start for outstanding world class connections. A daughter of Galileo [IRE], she should hold a strong tracking position ready to launch.

Long on Turf for Superfecta Sunday

On this Superfecta Sunday we take a look at a long Turf race in Southern California.

Santa Anita Park Race 8 {Astra~G3~1 1/2 mile~TURF~4 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~Graded Stakes}

A nice field of nine will hit the green in this annual affair. There is plenty of speed to maintain a swift pace. Speed numbers are very close making it any of these ladies race. It should be one of the most exciting races on the card. Our task is to string together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#5 Plein Air [IRE] (Van Dyke / Baffert) comes in from an extended layoff looking for the victory. She has the highest speed number at this distance coupled with two wins from three starts. She could be controlling pace. A vigorous, peaking four work tab adds to her luster. This miss is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.
$2 SHOW.

#9 India Mantuana (T. Baze / Bell) should challenge from a forwardly placed position. She holds the highest (tie) last out speed number and four powerful workouts. This gal is 50% in the money from twenty-four starts. She appears to be in good form and ready to stretch out for the distance.

#8 K P Pergolicious [IRE] (Smith / Mullins) should contend having placed second last out against much tougher. She holds the second highest last out speed number and two hearty workouts. She loves the surface and the Santa Anita course. A strong pace will give her the advantage heading into the stretch.

#10 Pantsonfire [IRE] (Prat / Baltas) will be in the mix particularly with a swift pace. She holds the second highest (tie) pace at the distance and is one of three to compete at this marathon distance. A fine workout tab of four works gives her a little boost. She is 85% in the money over the Santa Anita course from seven tries.

Superfecta went 8-6-13-1.

Stakes Saturday down in NOLA

The Kentucky Derby trail begins in earnest on this Stakes Saturday down in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Fair Grounds Race 12 {LeComte~G3~1 mile 70 yards~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A spectacular field of twelve will go to the gate in this annual Derby prep. With Derby points on the line, these lads will be giving it their all. There is sufficient speed to carry a very fluid pace. Speed numbers are fairly close as each one of these young horses continue to improve. It should be a heck of a race down in always surprising NOLA.

#11 Tight Ten (Santana / Asmussen) might show his class with a couple of decent last out speed numbers and three superb workouts. He comes in fresh after a brief layoff. A son of Tapit, he is 75% in the money from four career starts. He could be part of the pace scenario.

#10 Chase the Ghost (Lanerie / Stewart) continues to improve with a couple of good last out speed numbers and two hearty workouts.  This guy likes the Fair Grounds track producing a competitive speed fig over it. A son of Ghostzapper, he could benefit from a fast pace as he is likely to take up a tracking position.

#7 Roiland (Graham / Amoss) should pose a challenge with the fourth highest last out speed number and three high quality workouts. He is another that will benefit from a sizzling pace as he tracks and closes. A son of Successful Appeal, he is 75% in the money from four career starts.

#5 Night Ops (Morales / Desormeaux) could surprise with a nicely improving portfolio of races. He comes into this race out of a longer route and three superlative peaking workouts. A son of Warriors Reward, he will be closing efficiently.

Superfecta Sunday in New Mexico

On this Superfecta Sunday we take a look at a nice Stakes race in the 48th State.

Sunland Park Race 8 {Bold Ego Handicap~5 1/2 Furlongs~4 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~Stakes}

A grand field of eleven will go to the gate in this feature stakes race. There is more than enough speed to take this group through a dazzling pace. Speed figs are quite varied, but should be fairly competitive. Our task is to cobble together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#3 Fight to Glory (D. Lopez / Diodoro) should go off as the deserved favorite with the fourth highest last out speed number, the highest speed number (tie) at the distance, and one solid workout. She should show speed. This daughter of American Lion is 83% in the money from eighteen career starts.

#5 Life of Illusion (Eikleberry / H. Dominguez) looks to be in good form with the third highest last out speed number, sharing the highest speed number at the distance, and putting in a sound workout. This gal has tactical speed that will serve her well among this speed laden crew. A daughter of Harlan's Holiday, she is 66% in the money from twelve career starts. She is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#6 Raging Town (A. Juarez / Asmussen) should fire well after a brief freshening. This gal should be comfortable sitting just off the pace. She has put in one strong workout in preparation. #8 Kram (L. Contreras / Fincher) is coming off an extended layoff with two significant workouts. This girl holds the second highest speed number over the Sunland track. The distance is right in her wheelhouse. A daughter of Colonel John, she is 66% in the money from six career starts.
