Saratoga Stakes Saturday

On this last day of August, and the Labor Day weekend that unofficially marks the end of summer we take a good look at an amazing race of millionaire horses.

Saratoga Race 10 {Woodward~G1~1 1/8 mile~3 year old Up~Stakes}
A fantastic group of six will make their start in this annual graded stakes race.  There is sufficient speed and forwardly placed types to keep the pace honest.  It can be swaid these lads are the best of the best racing in America today.  A great race should unfold.

#5 Paynter (Bejarano / Baffert) should be the controlling speed and if he is able to hold off the challengers, could wire this field.  He comes into this with a couple of great last out speed numbers and four fierce workouts.  This guy holds an enviable 88% in the money record over eight career races.  He could stride right into the winners circle.
$1 WIN / $2 PLACE / $3 SHOW.

#4 Flat Out (Alvarado / Mott) should be right near the lead seeking an advantage with the highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and four dynamite peaking workouts.  He carries with him the tactical speed to out flank any of these.

#2 Successful Dan (Leparoux / Loprestri) should challenge sharing the highest last out speed number, working a two race progression, and putting in three solid peaking workouts.  He should be tracking the pace ready to pounce on any weakness in the leaders heading home.  This guy is another with a very credible in the money record of 86% over fourteen career starts.

Friday Horse Racing Stall

On this lovely Summer Friday we take a peek at a mile race in sunny Southern California.

Del Mar Race 6 {El Cajon Stakes~1 mile~3 year old~Stakes}
An interesting group of eight will go to the gate.  Five of which were nominated to the Triple Crown earlier this year.  There is plenty of speed sprinkled with the forwardly placed which could give it a very strong pace.  Should be a nice race on a nice day.

#6 Pataky Kid (Gomez / Proctor) could benefit from a hot pace with the fourth highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and four superb peaking workouts.  He should be able to settle back and launch into the stretch.

#8 Holy Lute (Flores / Cassidy) might surprise with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two stellar workouts.  He is another that could sit back and wait for the pace to develop.

Anticipating Saratoga

Let's get back at it on this Thursday.  Our horse racing weekend begins With Anticipation at Saratoga.

An equally talented field of eight youngsters will hit the grass in this annual event.  Most in here like to be forwardly placed so it should be a good jostle to the finish.  A great well bred field will make for a great race.

#3 Tiger Bourbon (Lezcano / Kenneally) will contend with the second highest last out speed number in his only race to date and four superb workouts.  He too should find himself forwardly placed ready to roll.

Our horse racing weekend comes to a close as we gaze out towards the Pacific Ocean and enjoy one of the great races of the summer.

A smashing field of twelve will go to the gate in this annual summer grade one.  There is speed. Most of it coming from the outside posts which might set this one up for a horse coming from off the pace should it get out of control.  A great group of horses will battle gallantly.  Let's try to sew together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#10 Delegation (Contreras / Casse) comes in from Woodbine with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three sensational workouts.  He should be forwardly placed ready to rumble with three other speedy types.  He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#11 Game On Dude (M. Garcia / Baffert) should be the favorite with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and five superlative workouts.  This guy holds the highest speed number at the distance.  He should be in the forwardly placed group battling for advantage.

#9 Dullahan (Bejarano / Romans) will be taking advantage of any fast pace with a couple of o.k. last out speed numbers, a two race progression, and three superb workouts.  He enjoys the synthetic surface and holds the fourth highest speed number at the distance.  This guy should be closing swiftly.

#4 Farraaj [IRE] (Gomez / Varian) could be the big surprise coming off some very nice efforts across the pond in Great Britain.  He is two for two at this distance and should relish the polytrack surface.  Expect him to have a nice tracking run.

Stakes Saturday features the Summer Derby

Stakes Saturday brings us the sensational Summer Derby at the "Spa".

Saratoga Race 12 {Travers~G1~1 1/4 mile~Stakes}
A nifty field of nine will compete in this annual summer soiree.  There is plenty of speed and forwardly placed types to make this a rip roaring contest.  All but two were nominated to the Triple Crown this year.  The race features some of the absolute best three year-olds in the country.  It will be another great Travers.

#2 Orb (Rosario / McGaughey) will seek redemption after a nice approximate 60-day layoff.  His usual rider, Joel Rosario, broke his foot yesterday and is doubtful.  As of this writing no replacement has been named.  Nonethelss, the big lad is fully wired to perform admirably with two o.k. last out speed numbers, a two race progression, and four superior peaking workouts in preparation for the race.  He should be closing fast on this group that could be clumped near the front.

#8 Palace Malice (Smith / Pletcher) will challenge with the second highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and two solid workouts.  This guy could sit right off the speed and make a strong run through the stretch.  He comes into this one two for two over the Saratoga track.

#7 War Dancer (A. Garcia / McPeek) could surprise coming off a win at this distance over the Turf.  He holds a couple of decent last out speed numbers, a six race progression, and four stout workouts.  He has the tactical speed to allow the pace to develop and then seek advantage.

Velazquez / Pletcher) should be the overall favorite after an explosive performance in the Haskell at Monmouth Park last out.  He holds the highest speed number, earned in that race, a three race progression, and two diligent workouts.  This guy will be the one to beat.  He should be forwardly placed ready to strike.

#6 Moreno (J. Ortiz / Guillot) is the speed of this race. Should he control the pace it could work out favorable for him.  He comes into this race with the fourth highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and two superb peaking workouts.

Ballerina Furlong Friday

Thank goodness it's Friday.  We take a look at a tremendous grade one at the "Spa".

Saratoga Race 9 {Ballerina Stakes~G1~7 furlongs~3 year old Up~fillies/mares~Stakes}
A high caliber group of eleven gals will go to the gate in this annual affair.  There is plenty of speed coupled with forwardly placed types to make the pace sizzle.  Most in this one have had a little bit of a freshening hoping to put in a top effort.  It should be a spectacular sprint.

#5 Book Review (Bejarano / Baffert) should take advantage of the pace set up to close down this field.  She holds the highest last out speed number, a five race progression, and five furious workouts.  This gal should fire well as the favorite.
$1 WIN / $1 SHOW.

#1 Dance to Bristol (X. Perez / Figgins) will challenge with the third highest last out speed number and one strong bullet workout.  She holds the highest speed number at the distance and is 95% in the money in seventeen starts.  This gal is a pure presser and will surely benefit from a speedy pace.

#8 Judy the Beauty (Rosario / Ward) should also contend with a couple of good last out speed number and four superior workouts that include two bullets.  This precious gal enjoys sharing the third highest speed number at this distance.  She has tactical speed to see how the pace develops.

Thursday begins our horse racing weekend and we look at a competitive Tapeta Sprint race to start it off.

A roaringly competitive field of eight ladies will go to gate in this allowance race.  All have the ability to be forwardly placed and enjoy it.  This one is a super contentious race with the entire field very close in terms of sprint speed numbers.

#8 No Splits (Rodriguez / Motion) is a turfer looking to cruise over the Tapeta surface.  She holds the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and one hearty workout.  This gal could sit back and let the pace develop, then launch her bid.

#3 Thetaloveandmine (Morales / Hannim) will challenge with the fourth highest last out speed number and two robust workouts.  She also holds the highest speed number at the distance.  This gal has the ability to take the lead or press the pace.

Saratoga, the Turf, the Turf is calling.

A sweetly contentious crew of seven fine fillies will take to the green in this graded stakes Turf race.  There is plenty of speed to keep things humming.  It is likely to the advantage of a gal that desires to come from off the pace.  This could be a splendid Sunday Turf race.  Despite having seven of equal ability we must choose four in which to sew together our 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#3 Watsdachances (Castellano / C. Brown) has a very good chance of winning this race with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three solid workouts.  She should be tracking the pace well ready to strike in the top of the stretch.

#1 Concise [GB] (Rosario / Motion) will be making her second North American start with the third highest last out speed number at a longer Turf route, a three race progression which includes races from across the pond, and two strong workouts.  She can be expected to close with flourish.  She is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

MILLION DAY 2013

It will be a beautiful day in Chicago for horse racing at Arlington International Race Course.

Arlington Park Race 1 {Straight Line~1 mile~3 year old~Stakes}
A great group of ten talented horses will hit the polytrack in the inaugural edition of this fine stake race.  There is a significant amount of speed in this one which should set up nicely for an off the pace horse to triumph.  This should be a great first race on this fantastic Arlington Million card.

#1A Fordubai (Castro / Geier) could have the edge with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and four splendid workouts.  He should find himself right off the lead pack ready to make his move going into the stretch.

#4 Positively (Stevens / Byrne) is well spotted in this race with the third highest (tie) last out speed number and one super efficient bullet workout.  He should be tracking the pace closely and explode into the stretch with a strong kick.

#6 Cameo Appearance (Geroux / Catalano) will be part of the speed in this race as he moves to a route for the first time.  He has posted the second highest last out speed number and three speedy strength workouts.  Could be the one to beat if left loose on the lead.

A exceptionally talented group of thirteen International horses come to Arlington to take part in one of the greatest TURF races of the year.  Four millionaires are included in the group.  There is sufficient speed to keep the pace honest, but most will be coming from off the pace as in Euro-style racing.  Most assuredly, it will be a incomparable race this season.

#13 Grandeur [IRE] (Buick / Noseda) should be able to capture this race will his fine tracking and closing running style.  He has raced very well in Great Britain this year.  This guy is 86% in the money at this distance.  His last out at a longer TURF route is the best among the entrants in this great race.
$2 WIN / $3 PLACE / $4 SHOW.

#10 The Apache [SAF] (Soumillon / de Kock) will challenge with a solid last out performance at a longer route.  He has posted one workout over the Arlington Park track to acclimate to the race course.  This South African bred has already posted a victory at this distance.

#8 Mull of Killough [IRE] (O'Brien / Chapple-Hyam) should contend well among this bunch with a couple of superb last out performances, a two race progression, and showing strength at this distance.  In this super competitive field he could surprise.

#3 Hunter's Light [IRE] (Moore / bin Suroor) should be in the mix as a wel traveled entrant.  His last two outings have been very good while working a three race progression.  This guy should be tracking the pace with a large contingent and find his way through for a piece of the purse.

#11 Little Mike (Rosario / Romans) is the defending MILLION champ, but he will not be able to run alone out on the lead as this year he will share front running duties and should also be pressed a bit.  He is still one of the mightier in here and has put in four terrific workouts.

#7 Indy Point [ARG] (Stevens / Mandella) should also challenge this group with a great performance last out at Del Mar.  He has posted three endurance producing workouts in preparation for this grade one.  This guy could be forwardly placed ready to strike in the stretch.

Friday, the eve before the Arlington Million at Arlington Park, we take a look at a exceptional Turf race in sunny Southern California.

Turf is on the docket for this horse racing weekend that begins today, Thursday.  We start with a wonderful TURF contest at the "Spa".  The Arlington Million is this Saturday (8/17).

It will be a perfect day for racing as a sturdy field of ten takes to the grass in this high quality stakes race.  There is enough speed in here to keep the pace flowing.  It is strongly possible that a tracker will have the upper hand.

#2 Lubash (Lezcano / Clement) appears to have an edge with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and one solid workout.  He also holds the second highest speed number at the distance.  He could track this field to victory.

#8 Hangover Kid (I. Ortiz / Servis) will challenge with the third highest last out speed number at a longer TURF route, a three race progression, and one peaking workout.  This guy should track and close swiftly.

Saratoga Superfecta Sunday

On a splendid Sunday we take a look at a mile Turf battle at the "Spa".

Saratoga Race 7 {1 mile~inner TURF~3 year old Up~fillies/mares~Allowance}
A highly contentious field of ten lovely horses will go to the Turf in this high level allowance race.  There is enough speed to keep the pace fluid.  Three in here are trying the grass for the first time and may take to it nicely.  The speed numbers posted by all of these gals make this one a difficult race to guage.  Let's give it a try in stitching together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#1 Yes It's Pink (Rosario / Clement) might be the post time favorite with the third highest (3-way tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and two sharp workouts.  She could track and close favorably.

A Glorious Mile for Stakes Saturday

On this glorious Stakes Saturday we take a look at a wonderful graded stakes mile on the edge of Kentucky.

Ellis Park Race 8 {Gardenia~G3~1 mile~3 year old Up~fillies/mares~Stakes}
A wholesome field of twelve lively ladies will enter the gate for this annual stakes affair.  This superlative race has attracted gals whose last outings were at tracks like Aqueduct, Canterbury, Woodbine, Churchill, Prairie Meadows, Delaware, Gulfstream, and Mountaineer.  Aside from the champion, Groupie Doll, who is head and shoulders above this field, all are equally comparable in terms of speed numbers.  Two millionaires are entered, Dixie Strike and of course, Groupie Doll.  There is sufficient speed and forwardly placed types to keep the pace swift.  It should be a splendid race to wager and watch.

#2 Groupie Doll (Maragh / Bradley) will be the favorite and should be able to dispatch this group with relative ease.  She is coming off an extended layoff with the best workout tab of four superb works including two bullets.  This magnificent daughter of Bowman's Band holds the highest speed number at the distance and is 100% in the money in four tries at same.  She has also notched two wins at Ellis in two starts.  Will be exceptionally tough to beat while being forwardly placed.

#10 Twice the Lady (Santana / Asmussen) could challenge despite a dud in her last out at Delaware.  She holds the second highest (tie) speed at the distance and is also 100% in the money over seven races at same.  Trainer, Steve Asmussen, has geared her up with four impressive workouts during a sixty day freshening.  This daughter of Quiet American should find herself close to the pace ready to strike in the lane.
$2 PLACE / $3 SHOW.

#8 Ciguaraya (Lanerie / Kenneally) should contend well with Groupie Doll's supporting cast.  She holds a couple of decent last out speed numbers, a two race progression, and three robust workouts.  This daughter of Latent Heat is also 100% in the money at the distance in two efforts.  She has the third highest speed at the distance.  Expect her to be running close to the leaders angling for an opening to hit the board.

Friday TURF at Arlington Park

A welcome Friday brings us TURF.

A talented group of eight gals will take to the beautiful Arlington Turf in this feature race.  There is enough speed to keep the pace humming.  All but one in this race have a fifty percent or greater in the money record over the Arlington TURF.  It should be a dandy of a race.

#7 The Best Option (Torres / Block) appears most likely to take advantage of a heated pace with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two robust workouts.  She should be closing swiftly in the stretch.

Saratoga Stakes

We begin our horse racing weekend with a nice New York stakes race at the "Spa".

A nice field of eleven gals will take to the grass in this wide open event.  It appears to be a little lacking in speedsters which may aid those with an affinity for the front.  This race should be a wonderful one.

#3 Palace Dreams (J. Ortiz / Duggan) looks to have an edge with a versatile running style that may find her motoring on the front end.  She holds the highest last out speed number at a longer route, a three race progression, and one stout workout.

#2 Adriatic Dream (J. Velazquez / Donk) will challenge with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two hearty workouts.  She likes to close and will be yearning for a fruitful pace to do so.

Superfecta Sunday at Saratoga

On this Superfecta Sunday we take a peek at a competitive TURF sprint at sensational Saratoga.

Saratoga Race 8 {5 1/2 furlongs~TURF~3 year old Up~fillies/mares~Optional Claiming}
An evenly matched group of nine will take to the grass in this 65k optional claiming event.  There is plenty of speed and the rest could be forwardly placed which should heat this one up.  All are quite capable of making another improvement.  It should be quite a race.  Let's try to knit together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#2 Spun Silky (Napravnik / Saville) might have a slight edge with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and one strong workout.  She can either motor on the front end or press the leaders. She also holds the second highest speed number at this distance.

#9 Spooky Kitten (J. Velazquez / Levine) should challenge with the second highest last out speed number at a longer turf sprint and three superb peaking workouts.  Should the pace begin to sting she could benefit the greatest by hanging back off the leaders.  This gal is our Bronze Horseshoe runner.

#6 Normandy (Rosario / Jacobson) should contend with a couple of decent last out speed numbers including her last in which she went seven furlongs over turf.  She has put in one peaking workout.  Another gal that should be forwardly placed ready to run.

#3 Strategic Missile (J. Ortiz / Feron) should be in the hunt with the third highest last out speed number, the highest speed number over the distance, and a sixty percent in the money record at "The Spa".  She is a pure presser, so should be on top of the pace set-up.

Stakes Saturday at Saratoga

Another wonderful weekend with a great grade one stakes race.

Saratoga Race10 {Whitney Invitational~G1~1 1/8 mile~3 year old Up~Stakes}
A supreme group of eight racers will make their start in this annual grade one.  There is a ton of speed and if left uncontrolled, could be of great benefit for those few which relish coming from off the pace.  This race will be one of the best of the summer.

#5 Ron the Greek (Lezcano / Mott) could find himself chasing down the leaders in the stretch with the fourth highest last out speed number and two solid workouts.  He will be firing fresh utilizing his strong kick.
$1 WIN / $2 PLACE / $3 SHOW.

#2 Mucho Macho Man (Prado / Ritvo) is another that could benefit from a smoking pace with a decent last out speed number, essentially a two race progression, and four endurance building workouts. Like many of these in here, he loves the Saratoga course.

#8 Fast Falcon (Alvarado / Zito) should also benefit from a fierce pace with the third highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two modest workouts.  He should be tracking the pace ready to make his move going into the turn.

#3 Fort Larned (Hernandez / Wilkes) could go off as the favorite, but is another that has to tamp down on the front end speed.  He holds the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and four hearty workouts.  He too is one of a number in her that love the Saratoga course.

Real Good Friday

Another Friday rolls forward and we take in the grandeur of racing at Del Mar.

An equally talented field of eight will make their start in this featured stakes race.  There is enough speedsters and forwardly placed types to keep this pace rolling. Three quarters of the field are coming into this race with a brief freshening.  It promises to be a very exciting race.

#2 Tiz a Minister (Nakatani / Aquirre) is the class of this field with the highest last out speed number at a route, a three race progression, and two superb workouts.  He has done well over the Del Mar poly and will be closing fast.
$2 SHOW.

#3 U'narack (Leparoux / Hollendorfer) will challenge with the third highest (tie) last out speed number, a four race progression and four strong workouts.  He should be forwardly placed ready to get first jump on the field.

#5 Raised a Secret (Stevens / Glatt) should contend with the second highest last out speed number at a slightly longer sprint, a two race progression, and three hearty, peaking workouts.  This guy should be close to the pace tracking the leaders and ready to rumble.

#1 Omega Star (Bejarano / Hollendorfer) could be in the mix with a couple of decent last out speed numbers and four charged workouts.  He is another that will stay close waiting for the pace to develop and then fly.

#4 Follini (Talamo / Glatt) should be in the hunt sharing the third highest last out speed number, working a two race progression, and putting in three athletic, peaking workouts.  He too will stay close and let it rip in the stretch.

Happy August. Happy Horse Racing.

Happy August!!  A new month and a new horse racing weekend begins on this Thursday.  Today we take a peek at a little race at the "Spa".

Saratoga Race 6 {J. Morrissey Stakes~6 1/2 furlongs~3 year old Up~NY~Stakes}
A very small field of five will go to the gate.  Most in this field like to be forwardly placed.  All but one have had a nice thirty day freshening going into this race.  It should be a good sprint.

#2 Saratoga Snacks (Rosario / Sciacca) has the edge with the highest (tie) last out speed number, an eight race progression, and two sharp peaking workouts.  He should be motoring with others on the front end.  It could very well be his race to lose.

#3 Saginaw (Alvarado / Jacobson) is the old veteran that will challenge with a decent last out speed number and five robust workouts.  He holds the highest speed number at this distance which he obtained over this track.  Another that will be close to the pace.

#4 Mine Over Matter (Lezcano / Hushion) should be in the mix with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two strong workouts.  He could be poised for victory should the pace get out of hand as he will be coming from off the pace.
