Stakes Saturday in Hollywood

Saturday is always a wonderful day for summer Stakes action in sunny Southern California.  Today we take a peek at two exceptionally competitive grade one races.

Betfair Hollywood Park Race 6 {Triple Bend Handicap~G1~7 furlongs~3 year old Up~Stakes}
A prime group of eight will venture to the gate in this tremendous grade one.  There are nearly equal parts of speed, pressing, tracking, and closing to make this an exceptional race.  All of the runners in this race have produced triple digit speed numbers in their career.

#6 The Factor (Bejarano / Baffert) looks ready as ever to come back to the races after a nice layoff.  He has done very well after layoffs in the past.  Prior to the layoff, this speedster has secured the highest last out speed number, was working a four race progression, and has put in five stellar workouts.  Clearly, he will be the one to beat.
$2 WIN / $3 SHOW.

#5 Camp Victory (Talamo / Mitchell) will challenge with the third highest last out speed number,  a four race progression, and three purposeful workouts.  This guy will track the pace and launch his effort in the stretch.
$2 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#7 Smiling Tiger (Smith / Bonde) can be expected to stay close to the pace with a couple of decent last out speed numbers, a two race progression, and two strong peaking workouts.  He should be a contender.

#2 Centralinteligence (Valdivia / Ellis) will also be in the mix with the second highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three athletic workouts.  He should come from off the pace with a superb run.

Betfair Hollywood Park Race 9 {Shoemaker Mile~G1~1 mile~3 year old Up~Stakes}
A great race shapes up with eight going to the green.  A couple of dynamic speedsters could set this one up for those coming from off the pace.  All in this race are quite capable of strutting into the winners circle.

#5 Jeranimo (Gomez / Pender) has a slight edge with the fourth highest last out speed number, the highest speed number at the distance, a three race progression, and three robust peaking workouts.  A lover of this Hollywood course he could track and close in efficient fashion.
$2 SHOW.

#8 Mr. Commons (Smith / Shirreffs) will challenge with the second highest last out speed number and three excellent workouts.  He holds the second highest speed number at the distance.  He should use his closing kick to an awe inspiring level.
$2 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#3 Little Mike (Bravo / Romans) may be the speedster that holds on with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and four hearty workouts.  He has an equal chance as any in this race to grab the gold.

#4 Suggestive Boy [ARG] (Talamo / McAnally) is coming off an extended layoff and entering into to a tough race for his first North American start.  He is coming off three group one wins in a row in his native Argentina.  His workout tab is the best of this field and with his hall of fame trainer, Ronald McAnally's 29% win record off long layoffs, he has an excellent chance to surprise all.

10 CENT Superfecta

#5 Jeranimo / #8 Mr. Commons / #3 Little Mike / #4 Suggestive Boy [ARG].

Superfecta Sunday at Arlington Park

Ain't it good to be back home again?  We journey to magnificent Arlington Park where there are always thrilling TURF battles.  On this Superfecta Sunday we take a close look at a very nice TURF allowance for Illinois gals.  With an average size field we will try to tap a 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

Arlington Park Race 7 {1 mile~TURF~3 year old Up~fillies/mares~IL~Allowance}
A really nice field of eight talented fillies/mares will go onto the green for this Turf feature.  The speed is coming off an extended layoff.  The majority of the field will stay close to her as they fly over the beautiful Arlington Park turf.  A few tracker/closers will round out the field.  An interesting race with any of these gals capable of hitting the wire first.

#5 Leading Astray (EE Perez / Block) looks like she has the edge with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two wonderful, peaking workouts.  She should stay close to the leader ready to strike in the stretch.

#1 No Retreat (J. Sanchez / Block) should be able to take advantage of a heated pace.  She holds the second highest last out speed number off a longer route, is rolling through a two race progression, and has put in two athletic workouts.  She could close swiftly giving chase to her teammate a challenge.

#8 Viva Bertha (Torres / Kirby) could surprise with the fourth highest (3-way tie) last out speed number covering a longer route, a five race progression, and three superb peaking workouts.  This daughter of Military should be able to track and close with percision.  She is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

Belmont Park Race 10 {Mother Goose~G1~1 1/16 mile~3 year old~fillies~Stakes}
A small, exceptional field of five will make the start.  The speedsters in this one should be the favorites.  With the small field there will be no 10 CENT Superfecta and perhaps little value with the top horses.  The group is evenly divided between speed and those coming from off the pace.

#1 Believe You Can (Napravnik / L. Jones) will be one of the favorites with the second highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three tenacious workouts.  She could sit right on the front end and power to the line.

#8 Killer Graces (Smith / Hollendorfer) has a slight edge should the pace develop wickedly.  She is coming off a freshening as the majority in this field are.  This gal holds the third highest speed number at the distance, a couple of decent last out speed numbers and five fierce, peeking workouts.
$2 SHOW.

A field of ten equally talented female horses will make their start in this Turf feature.  A smidgeon of speed, a pinch of pressers and a throng of tracker/closers make up this field.  No clear favorite emerges as this entire field is capable of winning this Turf route.

#3 Volcat (Arguello / McPeek) appears to have a slight edge with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two sound workouts.  This gal should be tracking the pace ready to pounce.

Belmont Stakes 2012

The collective gasp you heard from racing fans across the North American continent was the result of the scratch of the overwhelming favorite, I'll Have Another, from the 2012 Belmont Stakes.  Due to injury, this spectacular colt will not be able to run in the third leg of the Triple Crown and possibly make history.  Best wishes to him and his connections.

The Belmont must go on!  On this glorious Stakes Saturday we have to have a fix of TURF.  We will take a look at a Turf stakes race at Belmont as well as the Belmont Stakes.  An exciting day of horse racing awaits.

Belmont Park Race 8 {Just A Game~G1~1 mile~TURF~3 year old Up~fillies/mares~Stakes}
A great field of seven will venture onto the green for this mile long journey.  There is not a lot of speed here.  Consequently, the pace setters may have the edge.  The question then becomes, Who will the field concede the lead to?

#1 Tapitsfly (Dominguez / Romans) should be motoring on the front end with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two robust workouts.  It will be his first attempt over the Belmont grass, but appears to travel well.
$1 WIN / $1 SHOW.

#3 Wallis [GB] (Lezcano / Clement) should also be on the lead with the third highest speed number at the distance.  She is coming off a longer route and has put in two bullet workouts.  This turfista had a decent career on the sod across the pond and has done very well coming off the layoff.
$1 PLACE / $1 SHOW.

#5 Hungry Island (J. Velazquez / McGaughey) will challenge the pace setters hoping for an honest pace in which to close in to.  She holds the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and two good workouts.  Could be the favorite.
$1 SHOW.

Another Wagering Interest

#4 Winter Memories (Castellano / Toner) will be in the mix with the third highest last out speed number coming off a longer route, a two race progression, and three superb workouts.  She could track the pace well and launch into the stretch.

10 CENT Superfecta

#1 Tapitsfly, #3 Wallis [GB] / #1, #3 / #5 Hungry Island, #4 Winter Memories / #5, #4.

Belmont Park Race 11 {BELMONT STAKES~G1~1 1/2 mile~3 year old~Stakes}
It was disheartening to learn that there will be no run for the Triple Crown this year with the scratch of I'll Have Another.  There will be a field of eleven highly talented horses running for glory and the one million dollar purse.  It should still be a very exciting race.  And there will be pace.  Watch the trackers and closers battle on in the stretch.

#1 Street Life (Lezcano / C. Brown) should benefit nicely from a solid pace.  He has the third highest speed number going in, a five race progression, improving in every race in his five race career, and two salty workouts.  A deep closers that could sweep through the stretch.
$1 WIN / $2 PLACE / $3 SHOW.

#9 Paynter (Smith / Baffert) could be the one sitting close to the pace as I'll Have Another would have.  This serious colt holds the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and three stamina producing workouts.  He will challenge and could pull off the victory.
$1 PLACE / $2 SHOW.

#5 Dullahan (Castellano / Romans) could go off as the favorite with the second highest last out speed number (third place finish in the Kentucky Derby), a four race progression, and three powerful peaking workouts.  Another closer who will take the utmost advantage of a solid pace.  He could find himself in the winners circle.
$1 SHOW.

Another Wagering Interest

#3  Union Rags (J. Velazquez / Matz) could run up to his potential with the fourth highest last out speed number and two excellent bullet workouts.  He should track the pace well and put the hammer down coming out of the turn.  He has to be considered with a win over the Belmont track.

10 CENT Superfecta

#1 Street Life / #9 Paynter / #5 Dullahan / #3 Union Rags.

Let the Belmont Weekend Begin

A great Friday of racing awaits us.  Today we look at a terrific tune-up for what will turn out to be the biggest race of the year, the Belmont Stakes on Saturday, June 9th.  Our tune up will be a race of the same distance as that of the Belmont Stakes, 1 1/2 miles.

Belmont Park Race 10 {Brooklyn~G2~1 1/2 mile~3 year old Up~Stakes}
A highly talented field of twelve will make a go of it at this classic distance.  There will be many nuances to watch in this race looking forward to the Belmont, tomorrow.  Only three horses in the field have competed at this distance, the rest will be stretching out.  A plethora of speed and forwardly placed runners will dictate the pace.  It should be interesting if those coming from off the pace can capitalize on this.

#5 Birdrun (Maragh / Mott) is the defending champ and should be ready for the repeat.  He has a couple of o.k. last out speed numbers, a two race progression, and three speed laden, peaking workouts.  This guy has two wins in two starts at this distance and loves the Belmont track.  He will be part of the front runners.
$1 WIN / $1 SHOW.

#10 Redeemed (Dominguez / R. Dutrow) will challenge motoring near the front end with the third highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and four robust, peaking workouts.  He is pace versatile.
$1 PLACE / $1 SHOW.

#4 Eye On Jacob (J. Velazquez / Pletcher) will also be a contender with the second highest last out speed number and three superb workouts.  He should be forwardly placed ready to swoop down on the leaders in the stretch.
$1 SHOW.

Another Wagering Interest

#7 Golden Gulch (Lezcano / Kenneally) could be the big surprise sharing the third highest last out speed number and putting in two stout workouts.  He is another that loves the Belmont track and will use it to his advantage.  He should be close to the pace.

10 CENT Superfecta

#5 Birdrun / #10 Redeemed / #4 Eye On Jacob / #7 Golden Gulch.

We open up our horse racing weekend on this pleasant Thursday looking at a wonderful TURF sprint at Hollywood Park.

Betfair Hollywood Park Race 5 {6 furlongs~TURF~3 year old Up~CA-Optional Claiming}
A smooth field of nine will take to the grass in this Turf sprint.  This field has plenty of speed which should set up nicely for those coming from off the pace.

#8 Red Defense (Rosario / Sadler) looks ready to run a big one with the highest last out speed number at a turf route, a two race progression, and two solid workouts.  This gelding could be well spotted in this race with his pressing/tracking style.
$2 SHOW.

#4 My Summer Slew (Talamo / DeBase) will challenge with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two superb workouts.  This guy should stay close to the pace ready to move strongly through the stretch.
$2 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#3 Warren's Dr. Yang (Puglisi / Aguirre) should be in the mix with the fourth highest last out speed number at a longer turf sprint and three robust, peaking workouts.  He could track the pace ready to strike in the stretch.

#5 Nofty (Gomez / Mandella) is another that should be in the hunt with the third highest last out speed number and two fluid workouts.  He should be forwardly placed ready to hold on for a piece of the purse.

10 CENT Superfecta

Superfecta Sunday at Monmouth Park

Hard to believe it is Sunday already.  Belmont Stakes week begins.  It is sure to be a fantastic race this Saturday.  We are looking forward to the undercard as well.

For this Superfecta Sunday we take a look at a sprint along the Jersey Shore at beautiful Monmouth Park race track.

Monmouth Park Race 8 {6 furlongs~3 year old Up~Allowance}
A tremendously competitive field of nine is expected to go to the gate for this allowance feature.  Nearly half the field comes up as speedy.  The balance should stay close coming from off the pace.  The entire field is extremely close in terms of speed numbers.  Let's attempt the challenge of piecing together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#8 Voodoo Charm (DeCarlo / Sacco) will be coming off an extended layoff, but has done well previously while fresh.  He shares the second highest speed number at the distance with an overall excellent in the money record.  This son of Devil His Due has put in four superb workouts prepping for his 2012 debut.

#3 Harbor Breeze (Carmouche / T. Hills) should be forwardly placed as part of the speed.  He will challenge with the highest (tie) last out speed number, a three race progression, and two efficient, peaking workouts.  He shares the highest speed number over the Monmouth Park track that includes a 100% in the money record in two races over the track.

#7 Street Haven (Trujillo / Serey) is like many of the Street Cry prodigy with a running style that closes fast.  He should be able to track and pounce with the third highest (3-way tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and one decent workout.  This gelding takes to the six furlong distance well having won both of his two races at this distance this year.  He is our Bronze horseshoe runner.
$2 SHOW.

#1 Speeding Again (Marquez / McBurney) is much like his City Zip sibs, very, well er, speedy.  This guy will be pressing the pace for a piece of the purse pie with the second highest last out speed number in his only career start.  He won that race at first asking and has put in a couple of  strong workouts in the last 30 days.  This guy appears ready to show some zip.

10 CENT Superfecta Box ($2.40)

#8 Voodoo Charm  +   #3 Harbor Breeze  +  #7 Street Haven  +  #1 Speeding Again.

Calm Before the Belmont Stakes

Normally a Saturday full of stakes races, on this Saturday we have a calmness settling over the North American horse racing world.  Today we look at a nice Optional Claimer at Belmont Park in an attempt to tune up before the BIG race next Saturday.

Belmont Park Race 7 {6 furlongs~3 year old~fillies~Optional Claiming}
A tidy field of eight will go to the gate.  Half the field is speedsters and the other half will be close to the pace.  It could be a very thrilling race.

#4 McCarren Park (Dominguez / Asmussen) appears well prepped to take this one with the third highest last out speed number and two vigorous, peaking workouts.  She could settle right off the pace ready to strike nearing the stretch.
$1 WIN / $2 SHOW.

#2 Smokin' Alice (C. Velasquez / Rodriguez) will challenge with the highest speed number at the distance.  She is coming off a seven furlong sprint and has put in one solid workout.  She is another that will sit off the pace ready to make her move.
$1 PLACE / $1 SHOW.

#6 Union Victory (Cohen / Levine) should show speed in the forwardly placed group with the fourth highest last out speed number, the third highest speed number at the distance, and one stout workout.  She should hold on for a piece of the purse.
$1 SHOW.

Another Wagering Interest

#1 Sheza Classy Lady (Castellano / Levine) could out-class this group with the second highest last out speed number and a two race progression.  She should be forwardly placed ready to roll.
